The human body is not meant to house a
monster.
Izuku Midoriya learned this painful truth at
the tender age of four, on a Tuesday afternoon that smelled faintly of wax
crayons and apple juice.
Before that day, Izuku was a remarkably
unremarkable child. He was small for his age, prone to stuttering, and entirely
obsessed with the vivid, brightly colored world of Pro Heroes. He wore All
Might onesies, carried an All Might action figure, and dreamed of the day his
Quirk would finally manifest. He imagined breathing fire like his father, or
perhaps pulling objects with his mind like his mother. He imagined something
flashy, heroic, and safe.
Nature had other plans. Nature reached back
sixty-eight million years into the primordial past, bypassed all the neat,
polite Quirks of modern society, and dragged something terrible into the
present.
It started with a fever. Izuku had been
sitting on the brightly colored alphabet rug in his kindergarten classroom,
trying to draw a picture of the Symbol of Peace, when the heat began. It wasn't
the dull warmth of a common cold; it was a violent, suffocating inferno
blooming in his chest. His heart rate skyrocketed, hammering against his ribs
like a trapped bird.
"Sensei..." little Izuku had
whispered, dropping his green crayon. His voice sounded strange. Guttural.
The teacher hadn't reached him in time.
What happened next was a blur of sensory
overload and agonizing physical restructuring. Izuku remembered the sound of
his own clothes tearing, the fabric ripping like paper. He remembered the
horrifying sensation of his bones cracking, elongating, and thickening at an
impossible rate. His skin erupted in a sudden rash of thick, dark green scales.
His jaw pushed forward, unhinging and expanding, his baby teeth forced out in a
bloody spray as thick, serrated daggers grew in their place.
He didn't cry. He couldn't. His vocal cords
warped, thickening until the only sound he could produce was a low, vibrating
rumble that shook the plastic toys off the shelves.
The transformation took less than ten seconds.
Where a four-year-old boy had been sitting, there was now a juvenile
Tyrannosaurus Rex. Even as a child, his transformed state was massive—nearly
fifteen feet long from snout to the tip of a heavy, muscular tail, and standing
seven feet tall.
The classroom was not built for a prehistoric
apex predator. Izuku panicked. His reptilian brain, overwhelmed by the sudden
influx of hyper-sensitive smells and sights, flared with terror. He thrashed.
His heavy tail slammed into a structural pillar, shattering the concrete. Desks
were crushed under his massive, three-toed feet. The ceiling groaned, plaster
raining down as the room threatened to cave in.
The children screamed. The teacher screamed.
Izuku, trapped in the mind of a beast, let out
a terrified, deafening roar that shattered the classroom windows. He didn't
want to hurt anyone. He just wanted his mother. But when Inko Midoriya finally
arrived, pushing past the police tape and the panicked parents, she looked at
the massive, scaly beast cowering in the ruins of the playground... and she
froze.
For one agonizing second, before maternal
instinct overrode her shock, Izuku saw it.
Fear.
His mother was terrified of him.
Later, the doctors would label his Quirk as a
Transformation-class, naming it simply: Tyrant. They explained the square-cube
law, the staggering caloric requirements, and the sheer, unadulterated
destructive potential of his new biology.
"It is a Quirk of overwhelming physical
force," the Quirk specialist had told a tearful Inko, adjusting his
glasses. "Izuku can transform completely into an apex predator. However,
because of his sheer mass and the predatory instincts tied to the
transformation, he must exercise extreme caution. He is not a boy who can throw
a tantrum without leveling a building."
From that day forward, Izuku Midoriya stopped
dreaming of being a flashy hero. He stopped dreaming altogether. He learned to compress
himself. He learned to keep his head down, his voice soft, and his Quirk buried
deep, deep inside, locked behind a mental vault of absolute terror.
Because in a society of heroes and villains, a
dinosaur wasn't a savior. A dinosaur was a natural disaster.
"So, as third-year students, it's time to
start thinking seriously about your futures!"
The homeroom teacher's voice cut through the
dull hum of the Aldera Junior High classroom. He was holding a thick stack of
career aptitude papers, waving them lazily in the air. "I'll pass out
these printouts for your desired career paths, but... who am I kidding? You're
all aiming for the hero course, aren't you?"
The classroom erupted. Quirks flashed across
the room—students elongated their fingers, sparked tiny fires, or sprouted
minor mutations. It was a cacophony of teenage excitement.
Izuku Midoriya sat near the back, making
himself as small as physically possible. It was a difficult task. Even at
fourteen, the passive effects of his dormant Quirk had altered his human
physiology. He was broad-shouldered, packed with dense, heavy muscle that made
him look older than his peers. He had to be careful not to grip his pencil too
hard, lest it snap into splinters. He kept his head down, his unruly green curls
hiding his eyes, meticulously writing in his burnt-edged notebook: Hero
Analysis for the Future, Vol. 13.
"Yes, yes, you all have wonderful
Quirks," the teacher said, placating the crowd. "But remember, using
your powers in school is against the rules."
"Sensei! Don't lump me in with these
background characters!"
The arrogant, explosive voice belonged to
Katsuki Bakugo. He sat with his feet propped up on his desk, an arrogant smirk
plastered across his face. "They'll be lucky to end up as sidekicks to
some busted D-lister. I'm the real deal."
The class instantly turned on him in a chorus
of jeers, but Bakugo merely laughed, small explosions popping in the palms of
his hands. "Bring it on, extras!"
"Ah, Bakugo," the teacher noted,
looking at his clipboard. "You're aiming for U.A. High School, aren't
you?"
A hushed awe fell over the room. U.A. was the
pinnacle of hero academies. The acceptance rate was abysmally low.
"That's right!" Bakugo stood up,
basking in the attention. "I aced the mock test. I'm the only one at this
crappy school who has a chance at the big leagues. I'll surpass All Might and
become the top hero!"
"Oh, Midoriya," the teacher said,
completely destroying the dramatic tension. "You're applying for U.A. too,
right?"
The silence that followed was heavy, thick,
and suffocating.
Every head in the room turned to look at
Izuku. For a moment, no one said a word. Then, Bakugo's desk exploded.
Katsuki vaulted over the rows of desks, moving
with terrifying speed. He slammed his smoking palm down onto Izuku's desk, the
heat singing Izuku's eyebrows. The wood of the desk cracked under the force.
"Deku!" Bakugo snarled, his crimson
eyes blazing with a fury that bordered on obsessive. "What the hell do you
think you're doing?"
Izuku flinched, instinctively pulling his arms
inward. "K-Kacchan! It's just a preference! I-I've always wanted to go,
and they removed the restriction on..."
"Shut up!" Bakugo interrupted, his
voice dropping to a dangerous, low hiss. The rest of the class watched in tense
silence. They didn't mock Izuku like they used to when they were younger. They
were too afraid of him. Or rather, they were afraid of what was sleeping inside
him.
"You think you can stand in the same
arena as me?" Bakugo demanded. "Listen to me, you giant, scaly freak.
Pros save people. Pros minimize damage. You? You're a walking demolition crew.
You can't even fit down a normal street without your fat tail knocking over a
telephone pole!"
Izuku stared at the desk. The words stung
because they were true.
"You're not a hero, Deku," Bakugo
sneered, leaning in close so only Izuku could hear. "You're a villain
waiting to happen. The second you lose control and go full Godzilla, the pros
are gonna put you down like a rabid dog. Don't go to U.A. Don't try to be a
hero. Just stay out of my way."
Bakugo shoved off the desk and walked back to
his seat. The teacher cleared his throat nervously and moved on with the
lesson.
Izuku looked down at his trembling hands. His
knuckles were white. Beneath the skin, he could feel it—the deep, rhythmic
thrumming of a prehistoric heart. The beast was always there, pacing in the
cage of his ribs, eager to be let out. It wanted to roar. It wanted to snap
Bakugo in half like a twig.
Izuku squeezed his eyes shut, forcing the
anger down. He took a deep breath, reciting the names of Pro Heroes in his head
to calm himself down. Kamui Woods. Mt. Lady. Backdraft. All Might.
I'm not a monster, Izuku told himself. I'm
not.
The walk home was a solitary affair. It always
was. Izuku preferred taking the long way, walking through the older, wider
underpasses and alleys where the crowds were thin. He was exhausted.
Suppressing his Quirk took a monumental physical toll. His body burned through
calories at an alarming rate just to maintain a human shape, leaving him
constantly hungry and fatigued.
He was muttering to himself, reviewing his
notes on Mt. Lady's debut that morning, trying to distract himself from the
gnawing hunger in his stomach and the sting of Bakugo's words.
Kacchan is right, Izuku thought, kicking a
pebble. I can't be a hero. My Quirk isn't meant to save people. It's meant to
hunt. It's meant to kill.
He remembered a time he had tried to help a
cat stuck in a tree when he was eight. He had partially transformed, growing
his legs out to give himself a massive boost to jump up. But he had
miscalculated his own weight. He had crushed the branch, terrified the cat, and
knocked over the entire tree, nearly crushing a parked car.
Precision. Finesse. I have none of it.
Izuku paused as he entered a dark tunnel
beneath a bridge. The air was cool and damp. He liked tunnels. They made him
feel contained.
A sudden, vile smell hit his highly sensitive
nose. It was a mixture of raw sewage, rotting garbage, and stagnant water.
Izuku stopped, his pupils briefly contracting into vertical reptilian slits as
his instincts flared. Something was behind him.
He turned just as a manhole cover clattered to
the concrete. From the dark depths of the sewer, a massive, gelatinous wave of
dark green mud surged upward. It writhed and bubbled, forming two bulbous,
manic eyes and a grotesque, jagged maw.
"A medium-sized meat suit," the
Sludge Villain gurgled, its voice wet and echoing. "Perfect. A little
muscular, but you'll do nicely."
Izuku barely had time to widen his eyes before
the villain lunged.
The sludge hit him with the force of a tidal
wave. It was freezing cold, smelling of death and decay. The fluid wrapped
around Izuku's torso, pinning his arms to his sides, and violently shoved
itself down his throat.
"Don't fight it, kid!" the villain
cackled, tightening its grip. "I'm just taking over your body! It'll only
hurt for about forty-five seconds, and then it'll all be over!"
Izuku couldn't breathe. The sludge was filling
his lungs, burning his esophagus. Panic, pure and blinding, seized his brain.
Transform.
The instinct hit him like a freight train. His
DNA screamed at him to shift, to unleash the apex predator, to grow to his full
forty feet of armored mass and tear this parasite apart. The heat began to
build in his chest. His skin started to itch, taking on a greenish tint as
scales threatened to burst through his epidermis.
But then, Izuku looked around.
The tunnel was small. Only ten feet high and
fifteen feet wide. If he went full T-Rex right now, his body would expand
violently outward. The concrete ceiling would shatter. The bridge above,
currently carrying a stream of rush-hour traffic, would collapse. He would
crush the villain, yes, but he would bring dozens of innocent civilians down
with him.
No.
Izuku violently clamped down on his Quirk. He
fought his own body, forcing the transformation back into its cage, even as his
lungs screamed for oxygen. He clawed weakly at the sludge with his human hands,
his fingers slipping through the foul liquid.
I can't... I can't hurt them...
His vision began to darken at the edges. Black
spots danced across his eyes. The villain laughed, feeling the boy's resistance
fading. Izuku's knees buckled. He was going to die here, in the dark, because
he was too terrified of his own power to save his own life.
Suddenly, the metallic clang of a manhole
cover flying through the air echoed down the tunnel. Heavy, rhythmic footsteps
shook the ground.
"Have no fear, you are safe!" a
booming, larger-than-life voice echoed.
Through his fading vision, Izuku saw a massive
silhouette blocking the light at the end of the tunnel.
"Because I am here!"
"TEXAS SMASH!"
The air pressure shifted violently. A
shockwave of pure physical force ripped through the tunnel like a hurricane.
The wind tore the sludge villain apart, ripping the foul liquid out of Izuku's
lungs and throat in a chaotic spray.
Izuku collapsed onto the concrete, gasping
greedily for air, hacking up remnants of foul-tasting mud. Through watering
eyes, he looked up.
Standing above him, practically glowing with
an aura of invincibility, was All Might. The Number One Hero. The Symbol of
Peace.
Izuku's brain short-circuited. He completely
forgot about his near-death experience. He forgot about Bakugo. He forgot about
being a monster. The fanboy inside him took the wheel.
"A-All Might!" Izuku wheezed,
scrambling to his feet. "Oh my god, it's really you! I need—I need an
autograph! Where's my notebook?!" He frantically searched the wet ground,
finding Vol. 13 lying open. To his shock, All Might had already signed a
massive, sprawling signature across a two-page spread.
"Well, it looks like you're okay, young
man!" All Might boomed, flashing his trademark smile while casually
holding up two large soda bottles filled with the quivering, trapped sludge
villain. "Sorry for getting you caught up in my villain hunting! But
thanks to your quick feet, I was able to capture him!"
"Thank you! This is an heirloom! I'll
keep it forever!" Izuku bowed so fast he nearly headbutted the pavement.
"Now, I must be off!" All Might
declared, turning toward the tunnel exit. "A hero's work is never done!
Time to deliver this fellow to the police!"
"Wait!" Izuku reached out. He
couldn't let All Might leave. Not yet. He had to know. For ten years, he had
lived in fear of himself. If anyone in the world could tell him the truth, it
was the man standing before him. "Please, I have to ask you
something!"
"No time to wait!" All Might
shouted, bending his knees.
As the colossal hero leapt into the air, Izuku
made a split-second, entirely irrational decision. He lunged forward and
grabbed onto All Might's leg.
The wind roared in his ears. The city shrank
beneath them. Izuku clung for dear life, his face flapping in the wind.
"Hey, hey, hey!" All Might yelled,
looking down in shock. "Let go! Your fanaticism is too much! We're in the
air!"
"If I let go now, I'll die!" Izuku
screamed over the rushing wind.
"Good point!"
They landed roughly on the roof of a
three-story office building. Izuku collapsed, his legs turning to jelly, his
heart hammering against his ribs.
"Good grief," All Might sighed,
wiping a sudden bead of sweat from his forehead. "If you talk to the
people downstairs, I'm sure they'll let you out. Now, I really must go."
"Wait!" Izuku shouted, pushing
himself up to his hands and knees. He stared at All Might's broad back. "I
need to know..."
Izuku swallowed hard. The words tasted like
ash in his mouth.
"Can someone with a villain's Quirk
become a hero like you?"
All Might stopped.
"Can someone..." Izuku squeezed his
eyes shut, his hands balling into fists. "Can someone who only destroys
things, someone who looks like a monster, ever save people? Everyone tells me
I'm a walking disaster. They tell me I'm a liability. My Quirk... it's a giant,
carnivorous dinosaur. I can't control my size in tight spaces. I break things.
I scare people."
Tears pricked the corners of Izuku's eyes.
"I want to be a hero. I want to save people with a smile. But how can I,
when my very existence makes people run away in terror? Even my own mother...
Can I be a hero, All Might?!"
For a long moment, there was silence save for
the hum of the city traffic below.
Izuku opened his eyes, hoping to see that
bright, encouraging smile. Hoping for a miracle.
Instead, a thick cloud of steam suddenly
exploded from All Might's body. Izuku cried out, shielding his face. When the
steam cleared, the towering, muscular symbol of peace was gone. In his place
stood a skeletal, emaciated man in baggy clothes, coughing up a spatter of
blood.
"A-All Might?!" Izuku shrieked,
scrambling backward. "What happened?! You're deflating! Are you an
imposter?!"
The skeletal man wiped the blood from his chin
with a bony thumb. "I am All Might," he rasped, his voice hollow and
tired. He slumped against the rooftop railing, sitting down with a heavy sigh.
"You know how guys at the pool suck in their gut to look buff? It's like
that."
Izuku stared in disbelief. The invincible
hero, reduced to this frail form.
All Might lifted his baggy shirt, revealing a
horrifying, spider-webbed scar that covered the entire left side of his chest.
The skin was violently purple and twisted. "Five years ago, a villain did
this to me. My respiratory system was nearly destroyed, and my stomach was
completely removed. I can only do hero work for about three hours a day
now."
Izuku felt the breath leave his lungs.
"Five years ago... was it the fight with Toxic Chainsaw?"
"You know your stuff," All Might
grunted. "No, that punk couldn't scratch me. This was kept hidden from the
public. A Symbol of Peace cannot be seen as weak."
All Might looked out over the city skyline,
his sunken eyes heavy with sorrow.
"You ask if a monster can be a
hero," All Might said softly. "Pro heroes put their lives on the line
every day. But more than that, we give the people peace of mind. When people
see me, they feel safe."
All Might turned his hollow gaze to Izuku.
"A hero's Quirk is a tool. But if that tool cannot be wielded without
endangering the very people you are trying to protect... then it becomes a
weapon of mass destruction. A dinosaur, you say? A giant predator?"
Izuku nodded numbly.
"Kid... the public is easily
frightened," All Might said, his voice laced with genuine regret. "If
your power truly causes that much collateral damage, if it scares the people
you are trying to save... then you will spend your entire career fighting the
public's perception of you, and fighting your own nature."
The words hit Izuku harder than any of
Bakugo's explosions.
"I cannot, in good conscience, tell you
that you can be a Pro Hero if your power puts civilians at risk," All
Might said gently. "It is not a bad thing to dream. But you have to be
realistic. If you want to help people, become a police officer. They get a bad
rap because we heroes catch the villains, but it's a fine profession."
All Might stood up, walking toward the rooftop
access door. "It's not wrong to have a destructive Quirk, young man. But
heroism requires control. Finesse. If you cannot provide that... it's better to
live a quiet life."
The door clicked shut.
Izuku stood frozen on the rooftop, the cold
wind biting through his uniform. The finality of All Might's words echoed in
his skull.
You have to be realistic.
It was over. The highest authority in the
world had spoken. Bakugo was right. The teachers were right. The doctors were
right.
Izuku Midoriya was not meant to be a hero. He
was a cage holding a beast, and his only job in life was to keep the door
locked.
Izuku didn't know how long he walked. He
descended from the roof, his feet carrying him automatically through the
crowded streets. His mind was completely blank. The notebook in his hand felt
like a lead weight.
He didn't notice the sirens at first. He
didn't notice the black smoke billowing into the sky until he stumbled into a
dense crowd of onlookers.
"What's going on?" a woman next to
him muttered.
"A villain grabbed a middle school
kid," a man replied, standing on his tiptoes. "He's holding him
hostage in the alley!"
Izuku looked up. Down the street, an entire
shopping arcade was in chaos. Fires burned violently, catching the wooden
awnings of the storefronts. The air was thick with smoke and the smell of
sulfur.
Several Pro Heroes were on the scene. Kamui
Woods was attempting to get close, but the villain was throwing massive
explosions around, setting the hero's wood on fire. Mt. Lady was standing
helplessly at the intersection. "I need at least two lanes to pass!"
she shouted, frustrated by her giant size in the narrow shopping district.
Izuku felt a sick feeling in his stomach. Mt.
Lady can't get in because of her size. A bitter parallel.
He pushed his way toward the front of the
crowd, intending to just take a look, to see which villain had caused this.
When he broke through to the front line, his
heart stopped.
It was the Sludge Villain. The very same
monster that had nearly suffocated him in the tunnel. All Might must have
dropped the bottles when Izuku grabbed onto his leg.
This is my fault, Izuku realized, terror
gripping his throat. Because I distracted him... this is happening.
The villain had grown larger, having absorbed
some of the fire and explosions. It was thrashing wildly in the narrow alleyway
between two burning buildings. And trapped right in the center of the foul,
green mud, struggling desperately for air, was a boy with ash-blonde hair.
Kacchan.
Bakugo was suffocating. The sludge was forcing
its way into his mouth and nose. Bakugo was firing explosions wildly from his
palms, trying to blast the villain away, but the blasts were only feeding the
fires around them. The heroes were shouting, telling each other to wait for
someone with a suitable Quirk. Death Arms tried to punch the sludge, but his
fists sank harmlessly into the liquid.
"We can't do anything!" Death Arms
yelled. "We have to wait for someone with a water or wind Quirk!"
"Just hold on, kid!" Kamui Woods
shouted helplessly.
Izuku watched in horror. Bakugo's eyes met his
across the barricade. For the first time in his life, Izuku didn't see the
arrogant, fearless Katsuki Bakugo. He saw a fourteen-year-old boy who was
terrified. He saw a boy pleading for help.
Before his brain could process what he was
doing, Izuku's legs moved.
He burst past the police line, ignoring the
shouts of the officers and the heroes. He dropped his notebook. He sprinted
straight toward the inferno.
"Hey, kid! Stop! You'll get yourself
killed!" Death Arms roared.
Izuku didn't hear him. His eyes were locked on
Bakugo.
What am I doing?! Izuku's mind screamed at
him. I don't have a plan! I can't do anything!
"You!" the Sludge Villain gurgled,
recognizing the green-haired boy. "You're the one who got away! I'm busy
right now, but I'll kill you next!"
The villain raised a massive tendril of
sludge, preparing to swat Izuku away like a fly.
Izuku skid to a halt just outside the villain's
reach. His mind raced. He looked at the alleyway. It was narrow. The buildings
on either side were already damaged by the fire. If he transformed entirely, if
he brought out the Tyrant... he would crush Bakugo to death in the collateral
damage, and he would collapse the burning buildings onto the crowd.
I can't go full T-Rex, Izuku realized. But I
have to do something! He needs power! He needs force!
Izuku remembered the cat in the tree. He
remembered growing just his legs. He had never tried to use his Quirk
offensively in pieces. It was incredibly painful, forcing the transformation
into a localized area while keeping the rest of his body human. It defied his
biological instincts.
But as he watched the life fading from
Bakugo's eyes, instinct took a back seat to desperation.
Izuku threw his right arm back. He screamed,
not in anger, but in pure, agonizing concentration.
"Shift!" he roared.
The sound of his flesh and bone tearing and
reforming was sickeningly loud, cutting through the crackle of the fire. His
right sleeve exploded into shreds.
The arm didn't just grow; it mutated
violently. Dense, dark-green, interlocking scales erupted over his skin,
armored and virtually impenetrable. His humerus and radius lengthened,
thickening into tree-trunk proportions. His hand warped, fingers fusing and
elongating until he was left with three massive, razor-sharp, obsidian talons,
each the size of a kitchen knife. The sheer weight of the transformed limb
nearly pulled Izuku off balance, the arm belonging to a forty-foot beast now
attached to a five-foot-five boy.
The heroes gasped. The crowd recoiled. The
sheer, primordial aura rolling off that single, monstrous arm was suffocating.
"What the hell is that?!" the Sludge
Villain shrieked, hesitating for a fraction of a second.
That was all Izuku needed.
Using his human legs, Izuku lunged forward.
The weight of his right arm acted like a pendulum, dragging him with terrifying
momentum.
"Let him go!" Izuku bellowed.
He swung the massive, reptilian claw
horizontally. He didn't punch the sludge; he hooked his three talons deep into
the viscous mud, finding the purchase that Death Arms couldn't. The monstrous
physical strength of an apex predator surged through his shoulder.
With a roar of effort, Izuku wrenched his arm
back.
The force was staggering. The talons tore a
massive chunk of the sludge away from Bakugo's face, scattering the foul liquid
across the pavement. It wasn't enough to defeat the villain, but it broke the
seal.
Bakugo gasped, dragging ragged, desperate
breaths of smoky air into his lungs. "Deku?!" he coughed, his eyes
wide as he stared at the massive, terrifying dinosaur limb attached to his
classmate.
"What are you doing?!" Bakugo
wheezed. "Why are you here?!"
"I don't know!" Izuku cried, tears
streaming down his face, his human arm desperately grabbing at Bakugo's uniform
to pull him free. "My legs just moved! You looked like you were asking for
help!"
The Sludge Villain shrieked in rage, reforming
the mass Izuku had torn away. "Damn you! I'll crush you both!"
Massive tendrils of sludge rose into the air
like whips, preparing to strike them down. Izuku couldn't pull Bakugo free. His
partial transformation was draining his energy at an alarming rate. The arm was
too heavy. He closed his eyes, throwing his human body over Bakugo to shield
him from the blow.
I did what I could, Izuku thought.
But the blow never came.
Suddenly, a hand gripped Izuku's shoulder. A
massive, familiar hand.
"I really am pathetic."
Izuku opened his eyes. Standing beside him,
blood dripping from his mouth but his muscles fully inflated, was All Might.
"I told you the traits that make a great
champion," All Might said, his voice vibrating with raw power. "But I
didn't live up to my own ideals! Pros are always risking their lives!"
All Might grabbed Bakugo with one hand,
pulling him free from the loosened sludge. With his other hand, he pulled his
fist back.
"DETROIT SMASH!"
The punch didn't just hit the villain. It hit
the air. The resulting tornado of wind pressure was so intense it blew the fire
out entirely, obliterating the Sludge Villain into countless splattering
droplets, and sent the clouds above scattering to reveal a clear, blue sky.
The wind died down. Rain, created by the
sudden change in air pressure, began to fall.
Izuku sat on the wet pavement, gasping for
breath. The adrenaline left his system. The agonizing pain of the partial shift
receded as he released his hold on the Quirk. His massive, scaly arm shrank
rapidly, bones cracking and reshaping until it was a normal, human arm again,
pale and trembling.
Silence descended on the alleyway.
Then, the pros moved in.
The aftermath was a blur.
The heroes immediately swarmed them. Kamui
Woods and Death Arms cornered Izuku, their expressions stern and furious.
"What were you thinking, kid?!"
Death Arms yelled. "You have a death wish?! Running in there with a
dangerous, unstable mutation Quirk like that? You could have brought the whole
street down on our heads!"
"We had the situation contained!"
Kamui Woods added, though Izuku knew that was a lie. "You let your
emotions get the better of you. A hero doesn't act recklessly with a Quirk that
destructive!"
Izuku hung his head, looking at his torn
sleeve. They were right. He had acted on instinct. He had used a monster's
power.
A few feet away, Bakugo was receiving a very
different treatment.
"That was amazing endurance, kid!"
Mt. Lady praised him. "And your Quirk is incredible! Once you're a pro,
you'll be a star!"
Bakugo didn't look at them. He was staring at Izuku,
his crimson eyes burning with an unreadable emotion. Not his usual fiery rage,
but something colder. Something complex.
Izuku didn't wait to be praised or further
scolded. As soon as the paramedics cleared him, he picked up his singed
notebook, offered a quiet bow of apology to the heroes, and walked away.
The walk home was even heavier than before.
The sky had darkened, the streetlights flickering to life.
Izuku felt hollow. He had finally used his
power to help someone, and all he got was yelled at. It was the final nail in
the coffin. He would throw away his hero notebooks tomorrow. He would look into
standard high schools. He would bury the Tyrant so deep it would never see the
light of day again.
"Deku!"
Izuku stopped, turning around.
Katsuki Bakugo was jogging toward him,
breathing heavily. He stopped a few feet away, his hands shoved deep into his
pockets. He looked angry, but he also looked... shaken.
"Listen to me, you damn nerd,"
Bakugo spat, refusing to meet Izuku's eyes. "I didn't ask for your help. I
didn't need your help. I was fine! Do you hear me?! You didn't do anything but
get in the way with your freakish claws!"
Izuku sighed. "I know, Kacchan."
Bakugo flinched, seemingly caught off guard by
Izuku's lack of a stutter, by the sheer, defeated exhaustion in his voice.
"Don't think this changes anything!"
Bakugo yelled, his voice cracking slightly. "Don't think a few big scales
makes you better than me! I'm going to surpass you, and I'm going to be the
number one hero! You hear me?!"
With that, Bakugo spun on his heel and marched
away into the evening, leaving Izuku alone on the quiet street.
Izuku watched him go. He's right. I'm not better
than him.
Izuku turned to continue his walk, only to
jump nearly out of his skin as a massive figure suddenly burst out from a side
alley, sliding across the pavement and blocking his path.
"I AM HERE!" All Might boomed,
striking a dramatic pose.
Izuku shrieked, scrambling backward. "All
Might?! What are you doing here?! How did you get past the reporters?!"
All Might laughed heartily. "Hahaha! I
stand for justice, not soundbites! I simply outran them! Because I am—"
Before he could finish, a familiar explosion
of steam engulfed the hero. The towering titan vanished, replaced once again by
the coughing, skeletal man.
"Oof," All Might wheezed, wiping his
mouth.
Izuku rushed forward. "Are you okay?! Why
are you here? You told me your limit was up!"
"I came... to thank you," All Might
said, straightening up and looking Izuku in the eye. "And to correct a
mistake."
Izuku blinked. "A mistake?"
"On the roof," All Might said, his
voice deadly serious. "I told you that a destructive Quirk, a power that
frightened people, couldn't belong to a hero. I told you to be realistic. But I
was wrong."
All Might stepped closer. "If you hadn't
been there... if you hadn't told me about your struggles, and if you hadn't run
into that fire... I would have been a worthless bystander. You spurred me into
action."
"No," Izuku shook his head
vigorously. "I just got in the way. I used my power, and the pros yelled
at me. I couldn't even defeat the villain. I'm just a monster who breaks
things."
"You didn't break anything," All
Might countered sharply.
Izuku froze.
"I saw what you did," All Might
said, his eyes gleaming in the streetlight. "I saw your Quirk. You have
the power to transform into a beast of immense size and terrifying power. A
power that could have leveled that entire city block."
All Might raised a hand and pointed at Izuku's
chest. "But you didn't. You were desperate, terrified, and acting on
instinct to save your friend. Yet, in the heat of that moment, you had the
profound presence of mind to hold back. You isolated your transformation to a
single limb. You underwent agonizing pain to ensure that you didn't collapse
those buildings on the civilians."
Izuku stared at him. The breath hitched in his
throat.
"The heroes scolded you for being
reckless," All Might continued softly. "But I saw the truth. I saw a
boy with the power of a titan, who chose to bleed rather than risk hurting a
single innocent person. That isn't the mind of a monster, young man. That is
the heart of a savior."
Tears, hot and fast, began to spill over
Izuku's cheeks. He had waited his entire life to hear someone, anyone, say
those words. He had lived in terror of himself for ten years, believing he was
a villain waiting to happen.
"Top heroes," All Might said, his
voice rising, carrying the weight of a legend, "have stories about them
from their school days. Most of their stories have one thing in common: their
bodies moved before they had a chance to think."
Izuku dropped to his knees. The notebook fell
from his grasp. He clutched his chest, sobbing violently into the quiet street.
"That is exactly what happened to
you," All Might said, standing tall despite his frail form.
All Might stepped forward, looking down at the
weeping boy with absolute certainty.
"Young man. You too can become a
hero."
Izuku Midoriya cried. He cried for the
four-year-old boy who had destroyed a classroom. He cried for the mother who
had looked at him with fear. He cried for the years of suppressing his own
heartbeat, hiding in the shadows of society.
"You are worthy," All Might said,
smiling. "Which is why I have come to offer you a proposal. I have deemed
you worthy of inheriting my power."
Izuku stopped crying, his eyes shooting open.
He looked up, wiping a mix of snot and tears from his face. "...Huh?"
"Inheriting... your power?" Izuku
repeated, thoroughly confused. "But... Quirks can't be passed down. And I
already have a Quirk! A really dangerous one!"
"It is true that you have a powerful Quirk,"
All Might chuckled, leaning against a streetlamp. "But your Quirk, your
'Tyrant', is entirely biological. It relies on the limits of your own flesh,
blood, and bone. My Quirk is something entirely different. It is a sacred
torch, passed from generation to generation."
All Might held up a hand. "It is called
One For All."
"One... For All..." Izuku whispered.
"Yes. One person cultivates the power,
and passes it to another. It is the crystallized power of strength, stockpiled
over decades. And I want you to be the next vessel."
Izuku's mind raced. He was an analytical
genius when it came to Quirks. The implications hit him immediately.
"Wait. If your Quirk is a stockpiling power of pure physical
enhancement... and you give it to me..."
All Might grinned, a massive, terrifying grin
that belonged on the face of the Number One Hero.
"Exactly, my boy! Imagine the physical
strength of One For All, combined with the devastating mass, bone density, and
muscle structure of your dinosaur form! Your body is uniquely suited to handle
the sheer recoil of my power! You wouldn't just be strong. You would be an
unstoppable force for good. The ultimate physical powerhouse!"
All Might pointed a bony finger at Izuku.
"But, it will require work. Your human body must be trained to handle the
transfer, and you must learn to master your beast. You have held your power
back for ten years out of fear. I am asking you to let it out. I am asking you
to become the Apex Hero."
Izuku looked at his hands. He imagined it. He
imagined standing tall, not shrinking away. He imagined roaring, not in terror,
but in defiance of evil. He imagined using his massive strength to hold up
falling bridges, to shield civilians, to crush villains who preyed on the weak.
He didn't want to hide anymore. He wanted to
be a hero.
Izuku stood up. He wiped his face, his green
eyes burning with a fierce, newly ignited determination. The beast in his
chest, the dinosaur that had slept for a decade, seemed to thrum in agreement,
hungry for the challenge.
"I'll do it," Izuku said firmly.
"I accept."
All Might smiled. "Excellent! No hesitation!
Then rest up, young Midoriya. Because starting tomorrow... we are going to put
you through hell."
Izuku nodded. He didn't know how he was going
to survive the training, or how he was going to feed the staggering caloric
demands of combining One For All with a Tyrannosaurus Rex metabolism. But for
the first time in his life, he wasn't afraid of the monster inside him.
He was going to teach it how to save people.
The morning after the Sludge Villain incident,
Izuku Midoriya woke up feeling as though he had been hit by a bullet train.
Every muscle in his right arm screamed in
agony, a deep, radiating ache that settled into the marrow of his bones. He
groaned, rolling over in his bed and clutching his shoulder. The phantom
sensation of his partial transformation lingered—the heavy, dense scales, the
elongated, razor-sharp talons, the terrifying weight of a prehistoric limb
attached to his scrawny teenage frame. His body was punishing him for defying
its natural limits, for forcing a localized shift without the necessary caloric
fuel or anatomical balance.
But as the pain throbbed, a smile broke across
Izuku’s face. He buried his face in his pillow, his chest heaving with silent,
joyous laughter.
It hadn't been a dream.
He looked at his desk, where his burnt Hero
Analysis for the Future, Vol. 13 sat. Beside it lay a newly printed map of the
city, with a red circle drawn around a specific municipal beach.
All Might had chosen him. The Symbol of Peace,
the greatest hero in the world, had looked past the terrifying nature of his
Quirk—the Quirk that everyone, even his own mother, feared—and saw a hero.
Izuku threw off the covers. He didn't have
time to be sore. He had a beast to train, and a legacy to inherit.
Dagobah Municipal Beach Park was less a beach
and more a monument to society’s laziness. Mountains of rusted refrigerators,
crushed cars, shattered electronics, and decaying tires formed an artificial
cliffside against the ocean. The smell of salt water was entirely overpowered
by the stench of oxidized metal and rotting garbage.
Izuku stood at the edge of the concrete
retaining wall, shivering slightly in the cool, predawn mist. He wore a loose gray
tracksuit, dwarfed by the sheer scale of the illegal dumping ground.
"Ah, you're here early! Good!"
A skeletal hand clapped down on Izuku's good
shoulder. Izuku yelped, spinning around to see All Might—in his emaciated,
baggy-clothed form—stepping out from the morning fog.
"A-All Might!" Izuku stammered,
bowing quickly. "Good morning! Are we... are we going to train here?"
"Indeed we are!" All Might coughed,
waving a hand toward the towering heaps of trash. "This is Dagobah Beach.
For the next ten months, this will be your crucible. Your gym. Your dining
room. And your battlefield."
Izuku blinked, looking at a rusted pickup
truck balanced precariously on top of a pile of broken washing machines.
"My battlefield?"
"Midoriya, my boy, we need to talk about
Quirks. Specifically, how your Quirk is going to interact with mine." All
Might sat down on the edge of the seawall, gesturing for Izuku to join him.
"One For All," All Might began, his
voice taking on a reverent, academic tone, "is a stockpiling Quirk. It
harnesses the physical strength of eight previous users, combining it into a
singular, devastating well of power. When activated, it drastically enhances
the user's speed, strength, and durability. But there is a catch."
All Might turned to look at Izuku, his sunken
blue eyes piercing. "If a normal person, an unconditioned vessel, were to
receive One For All, the sheer torque and recoil of the power would blow their
limbs clean off."
Izuku gulped, instinctively hugging his arms.
"B-Blow my limbs off?"
"Exactly," All Might nodded.
"However, you are in a unique position. Your Quirk, Tyrant, allows you to
restructure your DNA into that of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. A creature that
possesses staggering bone density, immense muscle mass, and natural biological
armor. If you were to channel One For All while in your transformed state, your
dinosaur biology would act as a natural shock absorber. The multiplier would
be..." All Might paused, a slightly terrified grin crossing his skeletal
face, "Frankly, it would be apocalyptic."
Izuku’s mind immediately went into overdrive,
his muttering habit kicking in. "So if a standard T-Rex has a bite force
of roughly twelve thousand pounds, and One For All multiplies base physical
output, even using five percent of the power while shifted could theoretically
shatter steel, not to mention the kinetic force generated by the tail, if the
muscle fibers are reinforced by stockpiled energy..."
"Pacing, pacing, young Midoriya!"
All Might laughed, waving a hand. "You're getting ahead of yourself. Yes,
your beast form can handle the power. But your human form cannot."
All Might poked Izuku’s chest. "You have
suppressed your Quirk for ten years. You have starved your body to prevent it
from growing. As a result, your human vessel is weak. If you revert to human
form while One For All is active, or if you try to use my power without
shifting, you will shatter like glass. Furthermore, transforming takes a
massive toll on your human body. You need a baseline of human strength to
anchor the beast."
All Might stood up, gesturing expansively to
the beach of trash. "Therefore! Your goal for the next ten months is to
clean this entire beach. You will move this trash using your human body to
build your baseline strength. And, more importantly..."
All Might looked at Izuku with a serious,
challenging glint in his eye. "You will use this isolated, abandoned space
to finally let your Quirk out of its cage. I want you to transform, Midoriya.
Right here. Right now."
Izuku froze. The rhythmic pounding of the
ocean waves suddenly sounded very far away.
"T-Transform?" Izuku choked out.
"Full... full transformation? All Might, I haven't done that since I was
four years old. I... I don't know if I can control it. What if I lose my mind?
What if I attack you?"
"I am the Symbol of Peace," All
Might said gently, though a wisp of steam escaped his collar. "Even in
this form, I can dodge a clumsy lizard. You need to face your fear, Midoriya.
The beast is a part of you. If you don't learn to wear it like a second skin,
it will always control you."
Izuku looked at his trembling hands. He
remembered the shattered classroom. He remembered the screaming children. He
remembered his mother’s horrified face.
He closed his eyes. I want to be a hero, he
reminded himself. I can't be a hero if I'm afraid of my own shadow.
"Okay," Izuku whispered. He took
three steps back, giving himself space on the sandy concrete.
He closed his eyes and reached inward. Deep
within the architecture of his mind, behind a thick, heavy mental vault, the
beast was sleeping. Izuku reached out, grabbed the handle of the vault, and
pulled it open.
Shift.
The reaction was instantaneous and violently
biological. The heat started in his core, a furnace igniting in his stomach.
Izuku gasped, dropping to his hands and knees. His gray tracksuit tore at the
seams with a sharp r-r-rip as his shoulders expanded outward.
"Breathe, my boy," All Might’s voice
cut through the rushing blood in Izuku’s ears. "Guide the growth. Don't
fight it."
Izuku gritted his teeth. The pain was
blinding. His spine elongated, thick vertebrae popping and cracking as a
massive, heavy tail burst outward, shattering the concrete beneath him. His
skin hardened, shifting from pale human peach to a dark, mottled, forest-green
hue. Thick, interlocking scales erupted across his epidermis, rough and coarse
like armored plating.
His legs snapped backward, reconstructing into
a digitigrade stance. His thigh muscles ballooned to the size of oil drums,
tearing his sweatpants to absolute shreds. Three massive, obsidian talons burst
from his toes, gouging deep into the cement.
Then came his skull. Izuku let out a guttural,
gurgling cry as his jaw unhinged. His face pushed forward into a massive, heavy
snout. His human teeth were violently pushed out of his gums, replaced
instantly by rows of six-inch, serrated, banana-shaped daggers. His eyes
migrated to the sides of his skull, the pupils contracting into sharp, golden
slits.
The transformation took just under eight
seconds.
When it was over, Izuku Midoriya was gone. In
his place stood a forty-foot-long, seven-ton juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The beast lowered its massive head, exhaling a
plume of hot, humid breath that smelled of raw sulfur and iron. The dinosaur
blinked, its golden eyes darting around erratically. The world was suddenly a
cacophony of sensory overload. The smell of the rusting metal was deafening.
The sound of a seagull a mile away was like a gunshot.
Hungry.
The thought wasn't human. It was a raw, primal
instinct that bubbled up from the base of his brainstem. Hungry. Hunt. Bite.
The T-Rex snapped its jaws, taking a clumsy,
earth-shaking step forward. The ground trembled. It swung its massive head
toward All Might, the golden eyes locking onto the frail, skeletal man.
"Midoriya!" All Might barked, his
voice laced with the commanding aura of the Number One Hero. "Look at me!
You are not a mindless animal! You are Izuku Midoriya! Assert control!"
Inside the murky, instinct-driven fog of the
dinosaur's brain, a spark of human consciousness flared.
All Might?
The T-Rex paused. It shook its massive, heavy
head, letting out a low, vibrating rumble that rattled the loose trash on the
beach. Izuku fought against the overwhelming urge to bite, to thrash, to
establish dominance over his territory. He forced himself to remember his
notebooks, his mother, the sludge villain.
I am Izuku, he thought, forcing the human
words through the reptilian synapses. I am a hero.
Slowly, agonizingly, the chaotic aggression in
the golden eyes faded, replaced by a softer, more lucid intelligence. The T-Rex
lowered its head, letting out a soft, huffing sound, and awkwardly nudged All
Might's shoulder with its massive, scaly snout.
All Might smiled broadly, patting the beast's
armored nose. "There he is. Incredible, my boy. Absolutely
magnificent."
The T-Rex let out a happy, chirping rumble. It
was an odd sound coming from an apex predator, somewhat resembling a giant,
scaly puppy.
"Now," All Might said, pointing to a
massive, rusted pickup truck half-buried in the sand. "Let's see what that
body can do. Move that truck to the seawall!"
Izuku turned his massive body. He felt
incredibly clumsy. His center of gravity was completely different, requiring
his heavy tail to counterbalance his massive skull. He lumbered over to the
truck, his three-toed feet sinking deep into the sand.
He leaned down, opening his cavernous jaws,
and clamped his teeth over the truck's cabin. He barely squeezed. The metal
crumpled like tin foil. With a heave of his massive neck muscles, Izuku
effortlessly lifted the two-ton vehicle into the air.
He felt a surge of elation. I'm doing it! I'm
controlling it! I have so much power!
He took one step toward the seawall.
Then, his vision tunneled. A wave of profound,
absolute exhaustion hit him like a physical blow. The furnace in his stomach
suddenly went ice cold. The truck slipped from his jaws, crashing into the
sand.
The T-Rex's knees buckled.
"Midoriya?" All Might called out,
alarmed.
Before he hit the ground, the massive dinosaur
form boiled away in a cloud of dense, foul-smelling steam. The scales
retracted, the bones snapped back into place. Within seconds, a
fourteen-year-old boy, completely naked and horrifyingly pale, collapsed
face-first into the wet sand.
All Might rushed forward, quickly shrugging
off his oversized yellow jacket and throwing it over the unconscious boy.
"Midoriya! Speak to me!"
Izuku groaned, barely able to open his eyes.
His stomach let out a monstrous, echoing growl that sounded like a dying whale.
"H-Hungry..." Izuku croaked, his
voice raspy. "So... hungry... going to die..."
All Might blinked, looking down at the
shivering boy. He quickly did the math in his head. The conservation of mass.
The square-cube law. Maintaining a seven-ton biological form required an
astronomical amount of energy. Izuku had just burned through days’ worth of
calories in less than two minutes.
"Right," All Might muttered,
hoisting the boy onto his shoulder. "Step one: Breakfast."
Inko Midoriya was a woman who lived in a
constant state of mild, simmering anxiety. Raising a child with a Quirk that could
theoretically eat a bus was not for the faint of heart.
Over the years, she had adapted. She bought
reinforced furniture. She learned to patch drywall. And, above all, she learned
to cook. She knew her son’s metabolism ran hotter than a normal human's, even
when his Quirk was suppressed. But when Izuku came stumbling through the front
door at 8:00 AM on a Saturday, wrapped in a massive yellow jacket and looking
paler than a ghost, her heart stopped.
"Izuku!" Inko shrieked, dropping her
dish towel and rushing to the entryway. "What happened to you?! Where are
your clothes?!"
"Mom," Izuku gasped, leaning heavily
against the doorframe. His eyes were sunken, and he looked incredibly frail.
"Meat. Please. Everything."
Inko didn't ask questions. Maternal instinct
took over. She practically dragged him into the kitchen, sat him down at the
table, and flew to the refrigerator.
Ten minutes later, the kitchen table looked
like a crime scene at a butcher shop.
Izuku was eating with a ferocity that terrified
his mother. He had already consumed six raw eggs, a loaf of bread, two entire
rotisserie chickens, and a massive bowl of white rice. But it wasn't enough.
His body was screaming for protein to repair the torn muscle fibers from the
transformation.
Inko stood at the stove, frantically flipping
three massive beef steaks in a sizzling cast-iron pan. "Izuku, honey, slow
down! You're going to make yourself sick!"
"Can't," Izuku mumbled through a
mouthful of chicken, his teeth briefly flashing into sharp, serrated fangs
before reverting back to flat human incisors. "Burned too much. Used the
Quirk. Need fuel."
Inko froze, the spatula trembling in her hand.
She turned slowly. "You... you used your Quirk? Izuku, we talked about
this! It's too dangerous!"
Izuku swallowed hard, downing a glass of milk
in one gulp. He looked up at his mother. The exhaustion was still there, but
behind it, Inko saw something she hadn't seen in her son's eyes in a decade.
Fire.
"Mom," Izuku said, his voice steady
despite his trembling hands. "I met someone. A trainer. He’s going to help
me control it. He says... he says I can be a hero. A real hero. But I have to
stop hiding."
Inko’s eyes welled with tears. She looked at
her small, fragile boy, remembering the day she had looked at him with fear.
She had carried the guilt of that moment every day since. She had told herself
she was protecting him by telling him to hide, but in reality, she had only
been protecting herself.
She turned back to the stove, wiping a tear
from her cheek with the back of her hand. She flipped the steaks, her
expression hardening into absolute resolve.
"Well," Inko said, her voice shaking
slightly. "If you're going to be a hero, you can't do it on an empty
stomach."
That day marked a profound shift in the
Midoriya household budget.
By the second week of training, the caloric
crisis reached critical mass. All Might had Izuku on a strict regimen: two
hours of human-form heavy lifting (moving refrigerators, pulling tires)
followed by ten minutes of partial or full transformation practice.
The physical toll was astronomical. Izuku
required roughly 25,000 calories a day just to maintain his baseline, and
upwards of 40,000 on days he fully shifted.
Inko had to buy a second deep freezer. Then a
third. She started buying wholesale from local butchers. The kitchen became an
industrial production line. She learned to make "calorie
bombs"—massive blocks of compressed beef, rice, egg, and peanut butter
that Izuku could eat between classes at school.
"Mrs. Midoriya, I must apologize for the
financial strain," All Might (in his skeletal form, introduced as 'Yagi',
Izuku's personal trainer) said one evening. He was sitting in the Midoriya
living room, holding a cup of tea, watching in awe as Izuku mechanically
consumed a trough of beef stew. "I can provide a stipend from my agency to
cover the grocery bills."
"Oh, nonsense, Mr. Yagi," Inko
smiled, though she looked exhausted, wearing an apron stained with BBQ sauce.
"Izuku is my son. Seeing him this driven... I would buy the whole cow if I
had to."
Izuku paused his eating, looking between his
mother and his mentor. He felt a profound sense of gratitude swell in his
chest. He wasn't doing this alone. He had a team. And he couldn't let them
down.
Months 1 to 3: The Breaking Point
The first quarter of the ten-month timeline
was pure, unadulterated agony.
School became an afterthought. Izuku sat in
class at Aldera Junior High, utterly dead to the world, a massive tupperware
container of cooked chicken breasts sitting on his desk. He ate constantly. He
chewed through lectures. He chewed through homeroom.
Bakugo noticed.
"Hey, Deku," Bakugo snapped one
afternoon, slamming his hand down on Izuku's desk. "What the hell is with
you lately? You're eating like a pig, you smell like a wet dog, and you're
falling asleep in class."
Izuku looked up, blinking slowly. His jaw
muscles were incredibly prominent from constant chewing. "I'm training,
Kacchan."
Bakugo’s eyes narrowed. "Training for
what? I told you not to apply to U.A. You think stuffing your face is going to
make you a hero?"
Izuku didn't flinch. He didn't cower. The
exhaustion was too heavy for fear. He just looked at Bakugo with dull, tired
eyes. "I'm applying to U.A. I have to get stronger."
Bakugo scoffed, turning away. "Whatever,
freak. You're just fattening yourself up for the slaughter."
But Bakugo was wrong. Izuku wasn't getting
fat.
By the end of the third month, the changes in
Izuku's human physique were startling. The relentless heavy lifting at the
beach, combined with the extreme protein intake and the passive biological
feedback from his T-Rex shifts, had triggered an explosive growth spurt. He
shot up three inches in height. His shoulders broadened. The baby fat melted
away, replaced by dense, heavy, coiled muscle. When he accidentally bumped into
a doorframe at school, the wood splintered.
At the beach, progress was slow but steady.
"Partial shift, Midoriya! Now!" All
Might commanded over the crash of the ocean waves.
Izuku stood in front of a rusted washing
machine. He gritted his teeth, closing his eyes. Focus. Don't let the whole
beast out. Just the tail.
The heat flared in his lower back. His coccyx
extended violently, tearing through the specialized, stretchable workout pants
his mother had sewn for him. A twelve-foot, thick, heavily armored green tail
slammed into the sand.
"Good!" All Might cheered.
"Now, use it to sweep the machine into the pile!"
Izuku spun, whipping the massive appendage
forward. The tail struck the washing machine with the force of a wrecking ball.
The machine crumpled and flew twenty feet through the air, crashing into a pile
of scrap metal.
Izuku immediately dropped to one knee, panting
heavily, the tail retracting back into his spine in a hiss of steam.
"Thirty seconds," All Might clicked
a stopwatch. "Better! But you still suffer from acute caloric drain during
partial shifts. You must learn to circulate your blood more efficiently!"
"Right!" Izuku gasped, pulling a
compressed meat-block from his pocket and biting into it like an apple.
Months 4 to 6: Harnessing the Beast
As autumn turned to winter, the beach slowly
began to clear. The mountains of trash were shrinking, revealing the beautiful,
white sand beneath.
Izuku was no longer the frail, stuttering boy
who had grabbed onto All Might's leg. In his human form, he looked like a young
athlete—broad-chested, thick-necked, and possessing a terrifying, quiet
intensity. The mental barrier between Izuku and his Quirk was dissolving.
He no longer feared the beast. He began to
understand it.
He realized that the T-Rex wasn't a separate
entity; it was an extension of his own nervous system, flooded with predatory
hormones. When he shifted, his vision shifted to a wider field, prioritizing
movement. His sense of smell became overpowering, able to detect the salt in
All Might's sweat from fifty yards away.
He practiced "micro-shifting."
While carrying a heavy engine block across the
beach, Izuku would feel his grip slipping. Instead of dropping it, he would
allow a quick flash of scales to ripple across his forearms, hardening the skin
and reinforcing his tendons for a split second, before reverting.
"Excellent control, young Midoriya!"
All Might praised, taking notes in a small book. "By keeping the shifts
localized and brief, you are circumventing the caloric drain! It requires
immense mental discipline."
"It hurts," Izuku admitted, setting
the engine block down. He wiped sweat from his brow, his breath pluming in the
cold December air. "It feels like my skin is constantly on fire. But... it
feels right. Like I'm finally using a muscle I've ignored my whole life."
"That is the feeling of growth!" All
Might beamed. "But remember, micro-shifts won't be enough to handle the
100% output of One For All. You must master the full transformation."
Izuku nodded. He walked to an open stretch of
cleared beach. He took a deep breath, visualizing the beast, feeling the
furnace in his gut.
Shift.
The transformation was faster now. Under four
seconds. The terrifying, explosive growth of muscle and bone ripped through the
air. The juvenile T-Rex stood tall in the winter breeze. But it looked
different than it had months ago.
Because Izuku had strengthened his human
vessel, his transformed state had evolved. The T-Rex was no longer clumsy or
disproportionate. It was a masterpiece of biological engineering. The dark
green scales were thicker, arranged in intricate, interlocking geometric
patterns that resembled military armor. Deep, dark red stripes ran down its
back and tail. The muscles in its thighs and neck were impossibly dense,
coiling under the skin like steel cables.
Izuku looked down at All Might. The golden,
reptilian eyes were calm. There was no chaotic thrashing. There was no blind
hunger.
Izuku, inside the mind of the beast, was
entirely in control.
He let out a low, rumbling purr that vibrated
through the sand. He lowered his massive snout, gently nudging All Might's
hand.
"Perfection," All Might whispered,
awestruck by the sheer majesty of the creature. "You have tamed the
tyrant, Midoriya."
Months 7 to 9: The Final Grind
Spring arrived. The U.A. Entrance Exam was
only weeks away.
The physical toll on Izuku reached its
absolute peak. He was constantly bruised, his muscles constantly tearing and
repairing themselves denser than before. He barely slept, spending his nights
reviewing Quirk theory and tactics, determining how to use his massive size in
urban combat scenarios without causing collateral damage.
He developed a fighting style. Tyrant Style.
Since he couldn't use weapons, and his arms in
T-Rex form were famously short, he had to rely on his most devastating assets:
his legs, his tail, and his jaws. He practiced sweeping kicks that utilized the
fifteen-foot tail as a counterbalance. He practiced snapping his jaws with pinpoint
precision, learning to bite down on a tin can without crushing it, mastering
the exact pressure needed to hold a villain without severing limbs.
Inko Midoriya was near her breaking point. She
had taken up a second part-time job just to afford the meat. But every time she
saw Izuku walk through the door, standing tall, his eyes bright with purpose,
she knew it was worth it.
"Mom," Izuku said one evening,
gently placing a hand on her shoulder as she cooked. His hands were large now,
calloused and rough. "Thank you. For everything. I know this hasn't been
easy."
Inko sniffled, turning around and hugging his
solid waist. "You just promise me you'll be careful, Izuku. You're my
baby, even if you are a giant dinosaur."
Izuku smiled, hugging her back. "I
promise."
Month 10: The Eve of Destiny
February 26th. 6:00 AM.
The morning air was crisp and clear. The sun
was just beginning to peek over the horizon, casting a brilliant orange glow
across the ocean water.
All Might arrived at Dagobah Beach in his
pickup truck. He stepped out, holding a thermos of coffee, ready to push Izuku
through the final day of training.
He stopped dead in his tracks. He dropped the
thermos.
The beach was entirely, utterly pristine.
Not a single tire. Not a single rusted pipe.
Not a single piece of trash remained. The golden sand stretched out flawlessly
toward the crashing waves.
Standing at the edge of the water, looking out
at the rising sun, was a colossal silhouette.
The T-Rex stood forty-five feet long and
nearly eighteen feet tall. It had grown again. The sheer majesty of the
creature was breathtaking. The morning light caught the dark green and crimson
scales, making them shine like polished jade and ruby. The beast stood with
perfect, predatory posture, its massive tail sweeping lazily over the clean
sand.
"Oh, my... goodness..." All Might
breathed.
Hearing his mentor, the massive dinosaur
turned its head. The golden eyes locked onto All Might.
Then, the beast threw its head back toward the
sky. It opened its cavernous jaws, revealing rows of terrifying, serrated
teeth.
The roar tore through the morning air. It
wasn't a cry of pain, or a shriek of hunger. It was a roar of absolute triumph.
It was a sound so loud, so powerful, that it visibly rippled the surface of the
ocean and rattled the windows of the buildings miles away. It was the sound of a
king claiming his throne.
The roar faded into the wind. The beast was
enveloped in a massive cloud of steam.
When the steam cleared, Izuku Midoriya stood
on the beach.
He was shirtless, his sweatpants hanging low
on his hips. He was drenched in sweat, his chest heaving with exertion. But the
physical transformation was undeniable. Izuku was ripped. His core was a
washboard of dense muscle. His shoulders were broad, his arms thick with
vascular, powerful forearms. He looked nothing like the frail, stuttering kid
from ten months ago. He looked like a warrior.
He turned to All Might, flashing a brilliant,
exhausted smile.
"I did it, All Might," Izuku panted,
wiping sweat from his eyes. "I cleared it. All of it."
All Might felt a lump form in his throat. He
shifted into his muscular form, stepping forward and placing a massive hand on
Izuku's bare shoulder.
"You didn't just clear it, young
Midoriya," All Might boomed softly, pride radiating from his voice.
"You went beyond. You exceeded my expectations in every possible way. You
built the vessel. You mastered the beast."
All Might stepped back, looking at the clean
beach, and then back at Izuku. "Ten months ago, you were a boy terrified
of his own shadow. Today, you are a man ready to take on the world. You are a
proper vessel."
Izuku’s breath hitched. He felt tears welling
in his eyes, but he didn't wipe them away. He had earned these tears.
"It is time," All Might said, his
expression turning solemn. "The U.A. Entrance Exam is in three hours. It
is time for you to inherit the power."
All Might reached up to his head. He pinched a
single, golden strand of his hair and plucked it out.
He held it out toward Izuku. The morning sun
hit the hair, making it gleam like a wire of pure gold. This was it. The
culmination of ten months of agony, of eating raw meat, of tearing his own body
apart to rebuild it stronger. This was the key to his dreams.
"This is the truth of One For All,"
All Might said, his voice echoing with the weight of generations. "It must
be willingly given, and willingly taken. The DNA must be ingested. So..."
All Might shoved the hair directly in front of
Izuku's face.
"EAT THIS!"
The dramatic tension shattered like glass.
Izuku stared at the hair, deadpan. His left
eye twitched. "I... I have to eat your hair?"
"It's the only way to transfer the DNA
quickly!" All Might laughed, breaking his serious demeanor. "Come on,
boy! Down the hatch! You eat entire cows for breakfast, a little hair won't
hurt!"
Izuku sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"I guess it's a good thing my stomach acid is literally strong enough to
digest bone right now."
Izuku took the golden hair. He looked at it
for a moment, a small, wry smile crossing his face. He didn't hesitate. He
tossed it into his mouth and swallowed it dry.
"Delicious," Izuku deadpanned.
"Excellent!" All Might laughed,
clapping Izuku on the back so hard he nearly drove the boy into the sand.
"Now, hurry home! Shower, put on some clothes that actually fit you, and
get to U.A.! The power will take a few hours to digest and integrate into your
system. By the time the practical exam starts, you will feel it."
Izuku nodded, grabbing his shirt from the
seawall. He turned back to look at the clean beach one last time.
He closed his eyes. He didn't feel any
different yet. There was no spark of lightning, no sudden surge of power. Just
the familiar, heavy thrum of his own primordial heart beating in his chest.
I'm ready, Izuku thought. Whatever happens
today... I won't hold back anymore.
"Thank you, All Might," Izuku said,
bowing deeply. "I won't let you down."
"I know you won't, young Midoriya,"
All Might smiled. "Now go. Show them what a real monster can do."
Izuku turned and sprinted toward the city. The
ground shook slightly with every step he took. The U.A. Entrance Exam was
waiting. And the Tyrant King was finally hungry for a real fight.
Izuku Midoriya stood before the towering,
glass-and-steel monolith of U.A. High School, and for the first time in his
life, he didn't feel the urge to shrink away.
Ten months ago, he would have hunched his
shoulders, hidden his hands in his pockets, and stared at the pavement, hoping
nobody would notice the boy with the monster inside him. Today, however, his
posture was entirely different. He stood tall, his broad shoulders squared, his
chin held high. His school uniform, which Inko had desperately tried to tailor
over the last few weeks, stretched taut across his thick chest and heavily
muscled arms.
Deep in his gut, a strange, electric warmth
was bubbling. It was distinct from the heavy, furnace-like heat of his Tyrant
Quirk. This new sensation felt like a tightly coiled spring of pure energy,
crackling right at the base of his stomach where he had swallowed All Might's
golden hair only three hours prior. One For All was integrating into his DNA.
"Stupid Deku."
Izuku blinked, pulled from his thoughts. He
turned to see Katsuki Bakugo marching up the paved walkway. Bakugo’s eyes
immediately darted up and down Izuku’s physique, a flash of genuine irritation
crossing his face. Izuku had grown taller than him.
"Get out of my way," Bakugo growled,
though there was a slight edge of caution in his voice that hadn't been there
in middle school. He shoved past Izuku, though when his shoulder hit Izuku's,
it felt like hitting a brick wall. Izuku didn't budge an inch. Bakugo clicked
his tongue in annoyance and kept walking.
Izuku watched him go, a calm smile resting on
his face. I'm not the same person you used to push around, Kacchan.
Taking a deep breath of the crisp morning air,
Izuku took his first step toward the massive doors of U.A. But as he lifted his
foot, a sudden, sharp cramp seized his right calf—a phantom pain from a
micro-shift training session the night before. His leg buckled.
He pitched forward, his heavy, dense body
hurtling toward the pavement. With his current mass, falling face-first was
going to shatter the concrete and likely cause a scene. He prepared to brace
himself, maybe flash a scale on his chin to absorb the impact—
"Oops! Are you okay?"
Izuku stopped dead in mid-air. He was
floating.
He looked over his shoulder to see a girl with
a round, cheerful face, permanent pink blush on her cheeks, and a short brown
bob. She had one hand lightly touching his back.
"I stopped you with my Quirk," she
smiled warmly, stepping forward and pressing her fingers together.
"Release!"
Gravity reasserted itself. Because Izuku was
incredibly heavy—weighing nearly two hundred and twenty pounds of pure, dense
muscle in his human form—he dropped like a stone. He caught himself
effortlessly on his feet, the pavement cracking slightly beneath the rubber
soles of his red sneakers.
The girl’s eyes widened a fraction at the
small web of cracks under his feet, but she didn't seem afraid. "Wow,
you're heavy! Sorry I didn't ask first, but it would be bad luck to fall right
before the exam, right?"
Izuku stared at her. A girl. A girl was
talking to him. And she wasn't looking at him with fear, or calling him a
monster. She was just... nice.
"I—uh—y-yeah!" Izuku stammered, his
calm, cool demeanor instantly evaporating, replaced by a decade of repressed
social anxiety. "Th-Thank you! I just... I tripped! Clumsy! Very clumsy
today!"
She giggled, a bright, bubbly sound. "I'm
super nervous too! Let's do our best!" She waved enthusiastically and
jogged toward the entrance, leaving Izuku standing frozen on the walkway, his
face burning brighter than a stoplight.
I talked to a girl! his brain supplied
unhelpfully. Well, she talked to me, and I sounded like a broken record, but
still!
Izuku slapped his cheeks, forcing his focus
back to the task at hand. He couldn't afford to be distracted. He had an exam
to pass.
The auditorium was massive, packed with
hundreds of hopeful applicants. Izuku sat near the middle, with Bakugo
ironically seated just a few chairs to his right. At the front of the room,
standing before a gigantic screen, was the Voice Hero: Present Mic.
"WELCOME TO TODAY'S LIVE
PERFORMANCE!" Present Mic bellowed, his voice echoing off the walls with
physical force. "EVERYBODY SAY 'HEY'!"
Absolute, dead silence filled the room.
"Tough crowd!" Present Mic laughed,
completely unfazed. "Then I'll just skip right to the main event! I'm here
to present the rules for your practical exam, listeners! Are you ready?!"
Izuku was already rapidly flipping through his
burnt notebook, muttering up a storm. "The Voice Hero, Present Mic... I
listen to his radio show every night. His Quirk allows him to control the
volume of his voice, making him highly effective in mid-range combat and crowd
control..."
"Shut up, Deku," Bakugo hissed
without looking at him.
"As it says in your application
materials," Present Mic continued, pointing to the screen, "you will
be conducting ten-minute mock urban battles! You can bring whatever you want
with you! After this presentation, you'll head to your assigned Battle
Centers!"
Izuku looked down at his test card. Examinee
No. 7111. Battle Center B. He glanced at Bakugo's card. Battle Center A.
They're splitting us up, Izuku realized. To
prevent friends—or rivals—from working together. It makes sense.
"Inside the Battle Centers, you'll find
three types of faux villains!" Present Mic yelled, as pixelated
silhouettes of robots appeared on the screen. "They are worth one point,
two points, and three points respectively! Use your Quirks to disable these faux
villains and earn points! And remember, attacking other examinees is strictly
prohibited!"
"Excuse me! May I ask a question?"
A tall, broad-shouldered boy with glasses and
neatly combed blue hair stood up abruptly in the front row. He pointed a rigid hand
at the screen. "On the handout, there are clearly four types of villains!
If this is a misprint, then U.A., the most prominent school in Japan, should be
ashamed of that foolish mistake!"
The boy then spun around, pointing directly at
Izuku. "Furthermore, you with the unkempt hair! You've been muttering this
entire time. It's distracting! If you're here on a pleasure trip, then you
should leave immediately!"
Izuku slapped a hand over his mouth, shrinking
down in his seat. Several students snickered.
"Okay, okay, Examinee Number 7111!"
Present Mic placated, waving his hands. "Thanks for the great message! The
fourth faux villain is worth zero points! It's an obstacle! There's one in
every battle center. It's not impossible to defeat, but there's no reason to! I
recommend you listeners just run away from it!"
An obstacle, Izuku noted mentally. Like a
natural disaster. Just something to avoid.
"That's all from me!" Present Mic
shouted. "I'll leave you with our school motto! Go beyond! PLUS ULTRA! Now,
let's get ready to fry!"
Izuku closed his notebook. The anxiety that
had faded that morning came rushing back, crashing into him like a tidal wave.
Urban combat.
He looked down at his thick hands. Ten months
of training on an empty beach had taught him how to control his massive T-Rex
form in an open space. But a mock city? With narrow streets, tall buildings,
and dozens of other examinees running around?
If he went full T-Rex, he could accidentally
crush someone under his foot. He could collapse a building on an innocent
applicant. The square-cube law was his worst enemy. He had the raw power to
obliterate the robots, but doing so without causing unacceptable collateral
damage was going to be the real test.
He had to be smart. He couldn't just be a
monster. He had to be a hero.
The towering gates of Battle Center B loomed
like the entrance to a fortress. Beyond the thick steel walls lay a sprawling,
meticulously constructed fake city.
Dozens of applicants milled about the staging
area, stretching and psyching themselves up. Izuku stood near the back of the
pack. He was wearing his specialized workout clothes—a pair of heavy-duty,
ultra-stretch combat pants his mother had custom-ordered, and a tight,
sleeveless compression shirt. He was barefoot, having learned the hard way that
shoes were a pointless expense when three-toed talons tended to shred them in
seconds.
He recognized the nice girl with the gravity
Quirk near the front, taking deep breaths and slapping her own cheeks. He took
a step toward her, intending to thank her properly for earlier, but a heavy
hand clamped onto his shoulder.
It was the tall boy with the glasses from the
auditorium.
"That girl is trying to focus," the
boy said sternly, his eyes narrowing behind his rectangular lenses. "Are
you planning to distract her? What is your intent here?"
"I-I wasn't going to distract her!"
Izuku defended himself, waving his hands defensively. "I just wanted to
say thank you for helping me earlier!"
The tall boy scrutinized Izuku. His gaze
lingered on Izuku's incredibly dense musculature, the thick scars on his arms
from ten months of brutal training, and the barefoot stance. The boy's stern expression
faltered for a fraction of a second, replaced by a flicker of intimidation.
"I... see. I apologize for my assumption. But you must take this
seriously. This is U.A.!"
Before Izuku could reply, a blaring siren
shattered the tension.
"RIGHT, LET'S START!" Present Mic's
voice boomed from the massive speakers atop the wall.
The applicants froze, looking around in
confusion. The massive steel doors were slowly grinding open.
"WHAT'S WRONG? THERE ARE NO COUNTDOWNS IN
REAL BATTLES!" Present Mic yelled. "RUN, RUN, RUN! THE DIE HAS BEEN
CAST!"
Panic erupted. The crowd of teenagers surged
forward, sprinting through the opening gates into the fake city.
Izuku didn't run with them. He stood perfectly
still, watching the pack pull ahead. He took a slow, deep breath, pulling the
air deep into his lungs. He felt the electric spark of One For All sitting
dormant in his stomach, but he ignored it. He didn't know how to use it yet. He
didn't know how it would feel. Right now, he had to rely on the power he had
bled for over the last ten months.
He reached into his mind, grabbed the vault
door holding the beast, and tore it off its hinges.
"Shift."
The transformation hit him like a controlled
explosion. The heat flared in his core. His compression shirt tore instantly at
the seams, shredding into confetti as his chest cavity expanded violently
outward.
Ahead of him, the group of examinees heard the
sickening sound of snapping bone and tearing fabric. A few of them glanced back
over their shoulders. They stopped dead in their tracks, their eyes widening in
absolute horror.
A shadow fell over them.
Izuku’s spine elongated, a massive, heavily
armored tail slamming into the concrete with a cratering CRASH. His legs
buckled backward, expanding into massive trunks of dark green, scaly muscle,
ending in three obsidian talons that dug deep into the pavement. His skull
stretched forward, unhinging as rows of serrated, six-inch teeth erupted from
his gums.
In under four seconds, a forty-foot-long,
fifteen-foot-tall Tyrannosaurus Rex stood at the entrance of Battle Center B.
The beast lowered its massive head, its
golden, slit-pupil eyes locking onto the fake city. It didn't roar. It simply
exhaled a plume of hot, sulfurous steam from its nostrils, a low, vibrating
growl rumbling in its chest that physically shook the examinees standing thirty
feet away.
"What... what is that?!" a boy with
a tail yelled, stumbling backward.
"A dinosaur?! Is that a student's
Quirk?!"
Izuku ignored them. His reptilian brain was
flooded with sensory data, but his human consciousness remained firmly at the
helm. He saw a wide main street leading directly into the center of the city.
The T-Rex surged forward.
The sheer acceleration of a seven-ton apex
predator was a terrifying violation of physics. Izuku's massive legs pumped,
the concrete exploding beneath his talons with every step. He sprinted past the
other applicants, a blur of dark green scales and crimson stripes, leaving a
trail of shattered pavement in his wake.
Three 1-Pointer robots rounded the corner of a
building, their targeting lenses glowing red.
"Target acquired," the robotic
voices buzzed in unison. They raised their mechanical arms, preparing to fire.
They didn't even get the chance.
Izuku didn't slow down. He lowered his massive
skull like a battering ram and plowed directly into the center robot. The
impact sounded like a train crash. The 1-Pointer crumpled instantly, its metal
chassis shattering against Izuku's armored snout.
Without missing a beat, Izuku whipped his
torso to the right. His fifteen-foot tail swung around with devastating kinetic
force, slamming into the remaining two robots. The sheer blunt-force trauma
cleaved the machines in half, sending their upper torsos flying through the air
to crash through the windows of a nearby fake office building.
Three points, Izuku thought, his golden eyes
scanning the environment. Keep moving.
In a dark observation room deep within U.A., a
massive array of monitors illuminated the faces of the school's faculty.
"Well, well, well," a small, white
animal in a suit—Principal Nezu—chuckled, sipping from a teacup. "We have
quite an interesting crop this year."
"Look at the raw destruction in Center
B," Midnight purred, pointing a manicured finger at one of the central
screens. "That boy's Quirk is magnificent. Total physical
domination."
On the screen, Izuku in his T-Rex form was
tearing through a squad of 2-Pointers. He clamped his massive jaws around the
torso of one robot, biting down with 12,000 pounds of force. The steel armor
crumpled like a soda can, sparks flying as Izuku literally bit the machine in
half, tossing the wreckage aside before stomping another flat beneath his foot.
"He has power, certainly," Snipe
noted, adjusting his mask. "He's already racked up thirty-five points in
just three minutes. But look closely. He's a bull in a china shop."
Aizawa Shota sat in the corner, his eyes
half-closed, wrapped in his sleeping bag. He was watching Izuku intently.
"He lacks finesse," Aizawa stated flatly. "A transformation of
that magnitude in an urban environment is a severe liability. If there were civilians
in those buildings, the collateral damage from his shockwaves alone would have
caused casualties. He's strong, but strength without control is just
violence."
All Might stood near the back of the room in
his muscular form, gripping the back of a chair. Show them, young Midoriya, he
thought, sweat beading on his forehead. Show them you're not just a beast.
Back in Center B, Izuku was rapidly coming to
the same conclusion as Aizawa.
He had forty points. He had easily crushed
every robot in his path. But as he turned down a narrower street, his massive
tail clipped the corner of a brick building. The structural integrity failed,
and a shower of heavy bricks rained down onto the street below.
Izuku gasped, his T-Rex eyes widening.
Directly below the falling debris was a faux 'civilian' dummy, placed there by
the examiners, and a boy with a laser Quirk who had been cornered by a
3-Pointer.
No!
Izuku lunged forward, throwing his massive
body over the boy and the dummy, shielding them with his armored back. The
bricks battered against his thick scales, harmlessly shattering, but the weight
of his own body nearly crushed the laser-boy beneath him.
Izuku awkwardly tried to push himself up, but his
T-Rex arms were useless stubs. His center of gravity was meant for open fields,
not tight alleys. In his attempt to stand without squashing the boy, his
massive foot slipped, crushing a fire hydrant. Water exploded into the air,
soaking the street and short-circuiting the 3-Pointer, which sparked and
collapsed.
"H-Hey! Watch it!" the laser-boy
yelled, scrambling out from under Izuku's chest. "You almost crushed me,
you giant freak!"
Izuku let out a distressed rumble. He backed
away carefully, his tail tucked tight against his legs.
He looked around the street. It was a disaster
zone. Buildings were cracked, the road was destroyed, and debris was
everywhere. He had defeated the villains, yes, but he had wrecked the city to
do it. The other examinees were giving him a wide berth, looking at him with
the same fear he had seen his entire life.
I'm doing it again, Izuku realized, his
reptilian heart sinking. I'm too big. I'm causing too much damage.
He couldn't rescue people effectively in this
form. His claws were too clumsy to pick someone up gently, and his sheer mass
made navigating the rubble a hazard.
With a heavy hiss of steam, Izuku released the
transformation.
The massive beast boiled away, leaving Izuku
standing on the wet pavement in his torn pants, shivering slightly as the cool
air hit his bare chest. He was exhausted. Full shifting burned so many
calories, and he had been maintaining it for six minutes straight.
"Only four minutes left!" Present
Mic's voice echoed over the city.
Izuku gritted his teeth. He had forty points.
That might be enough to pass the combat portion, but if he was losing points
for collateral damage, he was in trouble. He needed to prove he could be
precise. He needed to fight as a human.
The ground suddenly trembled.
Izuku paused. The water pooling from the
broken fire hydrant began to ripple. The trembling escalated into a violent,
rhythmic earthquake.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
At the end of the main street, the towering
facade of a skyscraper suddenly exploded outward in a cloud of dust and fire.
From the smoke emerged a machine so massive it blocked out the sun.
It was the Zero Pointer.
The robot rolled forward on massive treads,
towering easily over the five-story buildings around it. Its single, glowing
red eye swept over the street. It raised a hand the size of a city bus and
slammed it down onto the pavement, completely obliterating a building and
sending a shockwave of debris flying in every direction.
"LESS THAN TWO MINUTES REMAINING!"
Present Mic announced cheerfully.
Panic, absolute and unfiltered, gripped the
applicants.
"It's huge!"
"Run! It's the Zero Pointer!"
The examinees turned and fled, sprinting back
toward the entrance gates. Izuku stood his ground, the wind from the robot's
destruction whipping his green hair around his face.
An obstacle, Izuku thought, his eyes wide.
Present Mic said to run away. There's no point in fighting it.
Izuku took a step backward, preparing to turn
and follow the crowd.
"Ow! My leg!"
The voice was faint, barely cutting through
the grinding gears of the colossal machine. But Izuku heard it.
He turned his head. Thirty yards away, near
the epicenter of the Zero Pointer's path of destruction, the nice girl with the
gravity Quirk was trapped. A massive slab of concrete from the destroyed
building had fallen, pinning her leg to the ground. She was desperately
pressing her hands against the rubble, trying to use her Quirk to lift it, but
she was exhausted, clutching her stomach and dry heaving.
The Zero Pointer slowly rotated its massive
treads, turning directly toward her. It raised its foot.
The other applicants ran past Izuku, ignoring
the girl. They were focused on saving themselves.
Izuku didn't think. He didn't analyze the
situation. He didn't worry about collateral damage, or the square-cube law, or
whether he was going to look like a monster.
His body moved before he had a chance to
think.
Izuku sprinted toward the Zero Pointer.
In the observation room, the heroes leaned
forward in their seats. All Might gripped the chair so hard the metal frame
bent. There you go, Midoriya. Show them the heart of a hero!
Izuku reached the trapped girl. He dropped to
his knees, shoving his hands under the massive concrete slab. He gritted his
teeth, his dense human muscles bulging as he tried to lift the debris. It was
too heavy. If he transformed, the sudden expansion of his mass in this tight
space would crush her beneath his own growing bones.
"Go!" the girl cried, tears
streaming down her dirty face. "It's going to crush us!"
Izuku looked up. The Zero Pointer's massive
foot was descending, casting a dark shadow over them. He had seconds.
He couldn't lift it as a human. He couldn't
transform here without hurting her.
I need more power.
Izuku closed his eyes. He reached deep into
his stomach, past the heavy, primordial furnace of the Tyrant, and found the
tight, electric coil he had swallowed that morning.
He grabbed the coil, and pulled.
The reaction was catastrophic.
A surge of blinding, supernatural energy
violently erupted through Izuku's nervous system. It didn't just feel like
strength; it felt like a hurricane of pure, stockpiled kinetic force tearing
through his veins. Deep, emerald-green lightning violently crackled around his
body, arcing off his skin and scorching the pavement. The air pressure around
him shifted, a localized shockwave blowing the dust away.
Izuku screamed as the power hit his
unconditioned human muscles. He felt his arms threatening to tear themselves
apart from the sheer torque. He couldn't hold this much power in his human
form.
Anchor the power! All Might's voice echoed in
his memory. Use the beast!
"Shift!" Izuku roared, funneling the
raging green lightning of One For All directly into his transformation Quirk.
The mutation that followed was something
entirely new. It wasn't just biology; it was biology fueled by a nuclear
reactor.
As Izuku's body violently expanded, the dark
green scales didn't just grow—they hardened into something resembling tempered
diamond, glowing with a bioluminescent, emerald energy. His muscle density
skyrocketed, his thighs and back swelling to terrifying proportions. The green
lightning of One For All wrapped around his massive, expanding form like a
chaotic, electrical storm.
He didn't fully transform. He couldn't, or
he'd crush the girl. Instead, he forced a partial shift on a massive scale.
His legs exploded into the massive, tree-trunk
thighs of the T-Rex, but his upper body remained mostly human, coated in a
thick layer of armored scales. His spine extended, a massive, fifteen-foot tail
covered in crackling green electricity violently whipping out behind him.
The sheer force of his transformed,
One-For-All-enhanced legs shattered the concrete beneath him. The resulting
shockwave blew the massive slab of rubble off the girl, sending it flying fifty
feet into the air.
Izuku didn't stop to check on her. He bent his
massive, dinosaur legs, the green lightning pooling in his massive thighs.
He looked up at the descending foot of the
Zero Pointer.
Clench your buttocks, Izuku remembered, a
wild, feral grin spreading across his face. And yell this from the depths of
your heart!
Izuku leaped.
The ground didn't just crack; it disintegrated
into a crater twenty feet deep. Izuku shot into the air like an armor-piercing
missile, defying gravity, moving at a speed that his massive size had no
business achieving. He rocketed straight past the descending foot, soaring up,
up, up, until he was eye-level with the head of the colossal machine.
The sheer altitude was dizzying. Izuku twisted
his body in mid-air. He channeled every ounce of One For All—five percent of
its total, devastating power—directly into his tail.
The heavy, armored appendage glowed blindingly
bright, the green lightning condensing into a solid aura of pure kinetic
energy.
"JURASSIC..." Izuku bellowed, the
sound a horrific, majestic blend of a human shout and a tyrannosaurus roar.
He swung his hips, whipping the massive tail
forward.
"...SMASH!"
The tail struck the side of the Zero Pointer's
head.
For a fraction of a second, time seemed to
stand still. Then, the sound barrier shattered.
A concussive ring of white air pressure
exploded outward from the point of impact, slicing through the clouds above the
fake city. The kinetic force was so utterly overwhelming that the armor plating
of the Zero Pointer didn't just dent; it vaporized.
The head of the colossal machine was violently
ripped from its shoulders. The massive decapitated block of metal flew
backward, carried by the sheer momentum of the blow, and crashed spectacularly
into the far wall of the Battle Center, exploding in a blinding ball of fire.
The headless torso of the Zero Pointer stood
for a moment, sparks showering from its severed neck, before slowly,
agonizingly toppling backward, crashing into the fake city with a deafening
boom that shook the entire U.A. campus.
Silence fell over Battle Center B.
The applicants, who had stopped running to
look back, stood frozen in absolute, terrified awe. They stared up at the sky,
where the green-haired boy with the massive dinosaur legs and tail was
suspended in the air.
In the observation room, Aizawa Shota dropped
his clipboard. Midnight's mouth was hanging open. Snipe let out a low whistle.
"Incredible," Principal Nezu
whispered, his eyes gleaming. "He used the raw mass of his transformation
to safely anchor a super-move of that magnitude. He turned his own body into a
weapon of mass destruction."
"He saved the girl," All Might
whispered, a massive, proud grin on his face.
But gravity always wins.
As Izuku's upward momentum ceased, the
adrenaline began to fade. The reality of what he had just done hit his body all
at once.
The recoil of One For All, combined with the
extreme strain of forcing a massive partial shift, was too much. The bones in
his massive T-Rex tail were completely shattered, the internal structure
pulverized by the impact. His legs, having absorbed the launch force, were
paralyzed with agony.
The green lightning sputtered and died. With a
hiss of steam, Izuku lost his grip on the transformation.
The scales receded. The heavy legs shrank back
to human size. The shattered tail retracted into his spine, sending a jolt of
unimaginable, blinding agony through his central nervous system.
Izuku began to fall.
He was two hundred feet in the air, his human
limbs completely unresponsive. His right arm, which he had tried to use to
brace his spin, was broken in three places. Both of his legs were purple and
swollen. He was plummeting toward the pavement, entirely defenseless.
I'm going to die, Izuku realized, the wind
roaring in his ears. I passed the test, but I'm going to die.
He squeezed his eyes shut, bracing for the
inevitable impact.
SLAP!
A sharp sting hit his face, completely
stopping his descent. Izuku opened his eyes. He was floating, mere inches above
the ruined pavement.
Standing beneath him, her hand outstretched
and panting heavily, was the nice girl.
"Release!" she gasped, pressing her
fingers together before instantly turning away and vomiting onto the street.
Izuku dropped the remaining few inches,
hitting the ground with a dull thud. He couldn't move. Every nerve in his body
was screaming in agony. His vision was swimming with black spots. But despite
the unbearable pain, despite lying half-naked in the ruins of a fake city, a
small smile crept onto his face.
He had done it. He had saved someone. He
hadn't just been a monster destroying things; he had used his overwhelming
power to protect.
"TIME'S UP!" Present Mic's voice
blared over the speakers.
The siren wailed, signaling the end of the
exam.
The other examinees slowly began to gather
around the crater, whispering in hushed, awestruck tones.
"Did you see that? He one-shotted the
Zero Pointer."
"What kind of Quirk is that? He turned
into a dinosaur, and then he just... exploded with lightning!"
"He's a monster... but he saved that
girl."
Izuku barely heard them. His consciousness was
rapidly fading.
"Very good work, everyone! Excellent
job!"
The crowd parted as a small, elderly woman
walked onto the battlefield. She carried a massive syringe like a walking
stick, her pink visor gleaming in the sunlight.
"Oh, my," Recovery Girl sighed,
looking down at Izuku's broken, bruised body. "You really overdid it,
didn't you, sonny? Combining a heavy transformation with a stockpiling power...
your bones are like chalk."
Izuku tried to speak, but all that came out
was a weak groan.
"Hush now. Let me fix you up."
Recovery Girl leaned down, her lips extending, and planted a large kiss on
Izuku's forehead.
A sudden rush of warmth flooded Izuku's body.
The excruciating pain in his broken arm and legs began to recede, the bones
rapidly knitting themselves back together. But the healing process drew on his
own stamina, which was already entirely depleted from the caloric drain of the
T-Rex shift and the use of One For All.
A wave of overwhelming exhaustion dragged
Izuku down into the darkness. His last conscious thought, before he passed out
completely, was hoping he had scored enough points to pass.
A week later, Izuku sat at the kitchen table,
staring blankly at a blank wall. He was mechanically eating his way through a
massive plate of grilled chicken, but he couldn't taste a thing.
He had failed.
He was sure of it. He had only scored forty
points before he was forced to release his transformation. He had spent the
rest of the exam running, and he hadn't scored a single point from the Zero
Pointer since it was an obstacle. Furthermore, he had caused massive property
damage before the Zero Pointer even showed up.
Aizawa's voice from the orientation played on
a loop in his head. If you can't control your size, you're a liability.
"Izuku! It's here!"
Inko Midoriya practically slid into the
kitchen, holding a thick, U.A. stamped envelope. Her hands were shaking
violently. "It's the letter! The results!"
Izuku dropped his fork. His heart pounded
heavily in his chest. He took the envelope, his calloused hands trembling
slightly, and walked into his bedroom. He sat down at his desk, staring at the
wax seal.
He took a deep breath, and tore it open.
A small, metal disc fell out onto the desk. It
whirred to life, projecting a holographic screen into the air.
"I AM HERE AS A PROJECTION!"
All Might's booming voice filled the room, his
image towering on the screen. He was wearing a bright yellow suit, looking as
heroic as ever.
"All Might?!" Izuku gasped.
"Hello, young Midoriya!" All Might
smiled warmly. "I know it's been a few days, but I have been busy with
paperwork! You see, I am now officially a teacher at U.A. High School!"
Izuku's jaw dropped. All Might was teaching at
U.A.?
"But enough about me!" All Might
cleared his throat, his expression turning serious. "You took the written
test, and scored quite well. But your practical exam... well, that was a sight
to behold."
A scoreboard appeared next to All Might.
"You scored forty villain points. That is
a respectable score, but unfortunately, it placed you just outside the passing
threshold."
Izuku felt the blood drain from his face. His
heart sank like a stone. He had failed. Ten months of agony, and he had failed.
"However!" All Might's voice rose,
interrupting Izuku's despair. "Do you truly think a hero course would
reject someone who does the right thing?"
The video feed switched to security footage
from the exam. It showed Izuku, in his human form, desperately trying to lift
the concrete off the trapped girl. It showed his terrifying, majestic
transformation, the lightning, and the cataclysmic strike that destroyed the
Zero Pointer.
"The entrance exam is not graded solely
on villain points," All Might explained gently. "How can a hero
course ignore those who act to save others in the face of absolute peril? We
cannot. It is the very foundation of what it means to be a hero!"
A new column appeared on the scoreboard next
to Izuku's villain points.
"Rescue Points! Given by a panel of
judges!"
The counter spun rapidly.
"Izuku Midoriya! Sixty Rescue
Points!"
Izuku stared at the screen, tears welling in
his eyes. Sixty points. Added to his forty, he had a hundred points.
"You did it, my boy," All Might
smiled, reaching a hand out toward the camera as if offering it to Izuku.
"You didn't let the beast control you. You used your power, your
frightening, monstrous power, to become a shield for someone else. That is true
heroism."
The screen faded to a graphic of the U.A.
logo.
"Come, young Midoriya. This is your hero
academia."
Izuku buried his face in his hands, weeping
uncontrollably. He had done it. He was going to U.A.
The Tyrant King had found his kingdom.
