What if deku had snappy quirk from Toy Story 5

The world is not born equal. That was a harsh, undeniable truth that Izuku Midoriya learned at the tender age of four.

In a society where eighty percent of the global population possessed some kind of uncanny, superhuman ability known as a "Quirk," the extraordinary had long since become the mundane. Men who could breathe fire walked their dogs down the street; women who could manipulate gravity carried their groceries home floating in mid-air. The skies were patrolled by costumed heroes, their larger-than-life exploits broadcasted on every television channel, on every billboard, and in the wide, star-struck eyes of every child.

To be four years old was to stand at the precipice of destiny. It was the age when the genetic lottery spun its wheel and delivered your fate. Would you be strong? Would you be fast? Would you be something the world had never seen before? Or would you be left behind in the twenty percent of the population deemed "Quirkless"—ordinary mortals stranded in a world of gods and monsters?

Izuku Midoriya wanted to be a hero. More specifically, he wanted to be exactly like All Might, the towering, smiling Symbol of Peace who stood as the undisputed Number One Hero. Izuku’s bedroom was a shrine to the man, plastered in posters, lined with action figures, and perpetually echoing with the sound of All Might’s debut video playing on a loop.

But wanting to be a hero and having the means to become one were two entirely different things.

The late afternoon sun beat down on the neighborhood playground, casting long, distorted shadows across the sandbox and the swings. Usually, the park was a place of laughter and innocent games, but today, the air was thick with the scent of burnt sugar and ozone.

"That's mean, Kacchan," a small, trembling voice squeaked out.

Izuku stood his ground, his small fists raised in a mockery of a boxing stance. His knees knocked together so violently he felt like he might collapse. Tears pricked at the corners of his wide, emerald-green eyes, blurring his vision, but he refused to blink them away. Behind him, another little boy sat in the dirt, clutching a scraped knee and sobbing quietly.

Standing opposite Izuku was Katsuki Bakugo. "Kacchan," as Izuku called him, was a prodigy. Even at four years old, Katsuki exuded an aura of supreme confidence that bordered on arrogance. His spiky ash-blonde hair seemed to bristle with static electricity, and his sharp crimson eyes narrowed in predatory amusement.

"Mean?" Katsuki echoed, a cruel smirk tugging at his lips. He took a step forward, and two of his lackeys—a boy with leathery bat wings and another with elongated fingers—snickered behind him. "What are you going to do about it, Deku? You don't even have a Quirk yet. You're just a useless nobody."

To punctuate his statement, Katsuki brought his palms together. A sharp CRACK echoed through the park, accompanied by a bright flash of orange light and a puff of acrid smoke. Katsuki’s Quirk had manifested only a few weeks prior—Explosion. It was a flashy, powerful, dangerous ability perfectly suited for a top-tier hero. The adults praised him, the teachers fawned over him, and Katsuki had quickly internalized the belief that he was simply better than everyone else.

Izuku flinched at the sound of the explosion, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. Every instinct in his tiny body screamed at him to run, to apologize, to get out of Katsuki's way.

But heroes don't run away, a voice whispered in the back of his mind. All Might saves people with a smile!

Izuku forced his trembling lips into a wobbly, terrified approximation of a smile. "I-If you keep hurting him... u-uh... I'll stop you myself!"

Katsuki’s smirk vanished, replaced by a scowl of pure, unadulterated contempt. The idea that a Quirkless loser like "Deku" would dare stand in his way was an insult to his newfound power.

"You'll stop me?" Katsuki snarled, raising his right hand. Tiny, sparking pops danced across his palm like angry firecrackers. "Don't make me laugh. You're just a pebble in my way, Deku!"

Katsuki lunged forward, his arm drawn back, aiming a sparking palm directly at Izuku’s face.

Time seemed to slow down for Izuku. He saw the angry curl of Katsuki’s lip. He saw the individual sparks leaping from the boy's sweat glands. He felt the heat of the impending blast. He raised his arms in a desperate attempt to shield his face, squeezing his eyes shut, bracing for the burning pain that was sure to follow.

I need to protect him! Izuku’s mind screamed. I need to be strong! I need—!

A strange, intense pressure suddenly built up in Izuku’s right forearm. It wasn't painful, but it felt incredibly dense, as if a tightly coiled spring inside his bones had suddenly been released from its catch. His right wrist began to glow with a blinding, neon-green light.

Katsuki hesitated for a fraction of a second, his crimson eyes widening as the emerald light washed over the playground.

Then came the sound.

SNIK-SNIK-SNIK-CLACK!

It sounded like heavy machinery, or a giant metal slinky being pulled taut.

From the glowing epicenter of Izuku’s right wrist, something erupted. It shot forward with the speed of a bullet—a blur of bright, cartoonish green plastic and gleaming silver metal.

Before Katsuki could register what was happening, the projectile slammed into his chest.

CHOMP.

"Gah!" Katsuki gasped, the wind knocked completely out of his lungs.

Izuku opened his eyes, gasping in shock at the sight before him.

Attached to Katsuki’s shirt, right over his sternum, was a head. But it wasn't a human head, or even an animal’s head. It was the head of an alligator, but rendered in bright, glossy, lime-green plastic. It had wide, painted-on white eyes with small black pupils, a blunt, rounded snout, and rows of interlocking, blunt plastic teeth that were currently clamped onto Katsuki's shirt with the grip of a vice.

Connecting this bizarre plastic alligator head to Izuku’s wrist was a thick, heavy-duty metallic coil—like an industrial-strength slinky. The coil was stretched tight across the four feet of space between the two boys, humming with vibrating kinetic energy.

Izuku stared at his wrist. The coil seemed to emerge directly from his skin, right below the joint, where a thick, plastic-like cuff had formed.

"What the heck is this?!" Katsuki yelled, panic bleeding into his voice for the first time in his life. He grabbed the plastic snout with both hands, trying to pry the jaws open. "Let go of me! Let go!"

But the plastic jaws refused to budge. Inside the alligator's head, a distinct, mechanical whirring sound began to build up, like a wind-up toy being cranked past its limit.

Izuku felt a sudden, massive tug on his arm. "W-Wait! I don't know how to—!"

The metallic slinky suddenly retracted with violent, explosive force.

ZIIIP-BOING!

The recoil was massive. The spring snapped back toward Izuku, pulling the alligator head with it. Because the jaws were still clamped tightly onto Katsuki’s shirt, the blonde boy was yanked entirely off his feet.

"WAAAAAH!" Katsuki shrieked as he was pulled through the air.

Izuku panicked. Seeing his childhood friend hurtling toward him, he threw himself backward, falling squarely onto his bottom in the sand. The alligator head let go of Katsuki’s shirt at the very last second, retracting fully into the cuff on Izuku's wrist with a loud, satisfying CLICK.

Freed from the jaws, Katsuki’s momentum carried him forward. He tumbled through the air and crashed into the sandbox, rolling end over end until he came to a halt, completely covered in dust and sand.

Total silence descended upon the playground. The two lackeys stared in open-mouthed horror. The crying boy behind Izuku had stopped sobbing, his tears drying up in sheer bewilderment.

Izuku sat in the sand, his chest heaving, his wide eyes glued to his right arm. The thick, silver coil and the green alligator head were gone, safely housed somewhere inside his forearm, leaving behind no mark save for a faint, tingling warmth.

Slowly, Katsuki pushed himself up from the dirt. His clothes were ruined, his hair was filled with sand, and his pride was shattered. He looked at Izuku, his eyes wide, pupils shrunk to pinpricks of shock.

For the first time, Katsuki Bakugo had been put on his back. And it had been done by the boy he deemed the weakest person in the world.

"Deku..." Katsuki breathed, his voice trembling with a mix of humiliation and rising fury. He looked at Izuku's arm, then up to Izuku's terrified face. But before Katsuki could reignite his palms, a loud voice cut across the park.

"Hey! What are you boys doing over there?!"

One of the playground monitors, an older woman with a long neck, was jogging toward them. Katsuki scowled, the sparks dying on his hands. He glared at Izuku with a hatred so pure it made the temperature drop.

"This isn't over, Deku," Katsuki hissed, brushing the sand off his shorts. He turned on his heel and stormed away, his lackeys scrambling to follow him like frightened ducklings.

The monitor arrived, checking on the boy who had been crying. Izuku remained on the ground, his right hand gripping his left arm. His heart was still racing, but a new, bizarre sensation was blooming in his chest.

It wasn't just adrenaline. It was a feeling of presence.

Deep inside his right arm, Izuku felt a faint, rhythmic clicking. Clack. Clack. Clack. It felt happy. It felt... proud.

Izuku Midoriya had just manifested his Quirk.

"A sentient mutation-emitter hybrid," Dr. Tsubasa said, adjusting his round glasses as he held up a glowing X-ray to the light box mounted on the wall. "I must say, Mrs. Midoriya, in all my years of pediatric Quirk counseling, I have rarely seen a physiological integration quite so... unique."

Inko Midoriya sat in the hard plastic chair, wringing her hands nervously. She was a slender woman with dark green hair similar to her son's, and she possessed a disposition that was prone to extreme anxiety. Beside her sat Izuku, his short legs kicking back and forth beneath the examination table. He looked entirely unbothered, humming the All Might theme song under his breath while staring intently at his right forearm.

"Unique?" Inko echoed, her voice trembling slightly. "Is it dangerous, Doctor? When the school called and said Izuku had injured Katsuki-kun, I thought I was going to faint. My husband breathes fire, and I can pull small objects toward me. We don't have anything like... whatever this is in our family history."

Dr. Tsubasa sighed, tracing a pen along the black-and-white image of Izuku’s arm on the X-ray. To Inko's horror, the bones of Izuku's right forearm—the radius and the ulna—were not normal. Instead of solid marrow, the bones appeared to be hollowed out, housing a compressed, tightly wound metallic spiral.

"Quirks are the result of genetic blending, Mrs. Midoriya," the doctor explained patiently. "Sometimes, genes mutate in ways we cannot predict. Your husband's fire breath requires an internal pressurized system. Your telekinesis involves drawing things toward you. If you combine an internal pressurized system with the concept of 'pulling' and add a dash of random genetic mutation... you get this."

The doctor turned his rolling stool toward Izuku. "Izuku, my boy. Could you show us your Quirk again? The nurse said you were having trouble bringing it out."

Izuku stopped kicking his legs. He looked up at the doctor, then at his mother. "I... I don't know how to do it on purpose. It just happened when Kacchan was being mean."

"It requires a trigger, then," Dr. Tsubasa mused. "Given your mother's Quirk requires conscious mental effort, and your father's requires physical exertion, yours likely requires an emotional or kinetic catalyst. Think back to how you felt in the park, Izuku. You wanted to protect someone, didn't you? You wanted to reach out."

Izuku closed his eyes. He thought of the crying boy. He thought of Katsuki's blazing palms. He thought of All Might, reaching out a massive, muscular hand to save people from disaster.

I want to save people, Izuku thought, clenching his right fist. Come out. Please!

A soft, neon-green glow illuminated the sterile white examination room. Inko gasped, bringing a hand to her mouth.

From Izuku’s wrist, a thick, dark green cuff of dense, fleshy material materialized, resembling hard plastic. A second later, with a metallic shhhk, the end of a silver coil slid out of the cuff. At the end of the coil rested the same bright green, cartoonish alligator head.

The heavy head dropped onto the examination table with a solid THUNK, the thick metallic slinky-coil stretching slightly from Izuku's wrist to the table.

"Fascinating," Dr. Tsubasa whispered, leaning in closer.

The alligator head was about the size of a football. Its scales were molded into a rigid, geometric pattern, completely lacking the organic texture of a real reptile. It looked exactly like a mass-produced children’s toy, down to the slightly misaligned paint job on its wide, unblinking white eyes.

Suddenly, the alligator's jaws snapped open.

CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK!

The rapid, aggressive chomping sound made Inko shriek and pull her legs up onto her chair. The alligator head spun around, its silver coil twisting. It looked at the doctor, its painted black pupils seeming to dilate.

"Ah! It's moving on its own!" Inko cried.

"Indeed," Dr. Tsubasa said, pulling a wooden tongue depressor from his front pocket. "Sentient Quirks are a fascinating sub-category. Typically, they take the form of shadowy familiars or mutated animal appendages. But this... this is a construct of seemingly synthetic material possessing autonomous motor functions."

Dr. Tsubasa slowly extended the wooden stick toward the alligator's snout.

The alligator froze. Its unblinking eyes seemed to focus entirely on the piece of wood. A low, mechanical whirring sound emanated from its plastic throat.

SNAP!

Faster than the eye could track, the alligator lunged. Its jaws clamped down on the tongue depressor. With a sharp twist of its head, it completely shattered the wood into splinters. The force was staggering.

"Good heavens!" the doctor exclaimed, pulling his hand back.

Izuku, however, wasn't scared. He felt a strange flutter in his chest, a sensation of joy that didn't belong entirely to him. He reached out with his left hand and gently patted the top of the alligator's hard plastic head.

The alligator instantly let go of the wood splinters. It turned toward Izuku, its jaws opening in a wide, silent pant. It pushed its smooth snout against Izuku’s palm, the metallic coil connecting them slackening like a relaxed dog leash.

"It likes you, Izuku," Dr. Tsubasa noted, furiously scribbling on his clipboard. "The psychological link between a user and a sentient Quirk is paramount. It appears to share your nervous system, acting as an extension of your own will, while also possessing a rudimentary 'personality' of its own."

"Is it... is it a toy?" Izuku asked, his voice full of wonder as he stroked the smooth green plastic.

"In appearance, yes," the doctor replied. "But biologically, it is a part of you. The 'plastic' is likely a highly condensed form of keratin and calcium, molded by your Quirk factor to look synthetic. The 'spring' is a specialized metallic-bone structure housed in your arm. When you launch it, the spring rapidly decompresses. When it bites down on something, the spring retracts, pulling the target toward you—or pulling you toward the target, depending on the weight disparity."

Inko slowly lowered her legs, her fear giving way to a mother's curiosity. "So... he shoots a spring out of his arm. Like a grappling hook?"

"Precisely," Dr. Tsubasa nodded. "A grappling hook with an incredibly powerful bite force and a mind of its own. He will need to be careful. If the spring retracts with too much kinetic energy, it could dislocate Izuku's shoulder or break his arm. He will need physical therapy and strength training as he grows."

Izuku barely heard the doctor's warnings. He was too mesmerized by the creature resting on the table. He leaned down until he was eye-level with the painted-on face.

"You stopped Kacchan from hurting that boy," Izuku whispered. "You helped me be a hero."

The alligator let out a soft, metallic chirp and clacked its jaws together twice.

Izuku broke into a massive, radiant smile. "Mom! Look! He understands me!"

Inko smiled, though tears of relief and lingering worry shone in her eyes. "I see, Izuku. What... what are you going to call it? Quirks need official names for the registry."

Izuku didn't even have to think about it. The rapid, cheerful clamping of the plastic jaws had already given him the answer.

"Snappy," Izuku declared proudly. "His name is Snappy!"

The alligator head reared up, the coil extending a few inches, and let out a triumphant, rapid-fire CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK!

Dr. Tsubasa chuckled, writing the name down on the official registry form. "Quirk Name: Snappy. Classification: Sentient Emitter/Mutant. Well, Midoriya, you have a very powerful tool at your disposal. If you learn to master that recoil, there's no telling what you could do."

Izuku looked down at Snappy, his chest swelling with an emotion he had never felt before: confidence. He wasn't Quirkless. He wasn't useless. He had a power. He had a partner.

I'm going to be a hero, Izuku thought, his tiny hand gripping the metallic slinky. Just like All Might.

Bringing Snappy home was an adjustment.

For the first few days, Izuku couldn't figure out how to retract his Quirk. The metallic coil remained extended out of his right wrist by about three feet, with Snappy’s heavy green head dragging along the floor. Inko had to buy a specialized sling to help Izuku carry the weight, as the dense, keratin-plastic head weighed nearly ten pounds—a massive burden for a four-year-old.

Furthermore, Snappy was intensely curious. He possessed the chaotic energy of a puppy trapped in the body of a spring-loaded clamp.

On the second night, Inko woke up to the sound of furious clacking in the kitchen. She rushed out, armed with a broom, only to find Izuku asleep on the living room rug, his right arm extended into the kitchen. Snappy had found the refrigerator door and was currently trying to bite the handle off, his metallic coil stretched taut across the hardwood floor.

"No, Snappy, no!" Inko scolded, swatting the plastic head with the broom.

Snappy released the handle, retracting back to Izuku’s side with a sad, metallic whine, curling his head behind Izuku’s sleeping back.

Feeding Snappy was another mystery. At first, Inko tried offering him dog food, then vegetables, then raw meat. Snappy rejected all of it, simply letting the food drop out of his hollow, spring-loaded throat and onto the floor.

It wasn't until Izuku was eating breakfast one morning that they discovered Snappy's true diet. Izuku was happily munching on a piece of toast, feeling exceptionally energized. Without warning, Snappy lunged from Izuku's side, snapped his jaws around a metal spoon resting on the table, and pulverized it.

"Izuku!" Inko gasped.

Izuku blinked. "I... I didn't do that. I'm full."

Dr. Tsubasa later explained over the phone that Snappy didn't eat physical food. Because Snappy was an extension of Izuku’s body, he sustained himself entirely on Izuku’s caloric intake. The more Izuku ate, the more energetic Snappy became. However, Snappy did have a compulsion to chew on hard objects to "sharpen" his teeth, much like a rodent gnawing on wood.

Inko immediately went to the pet store and bought the most durable, industrial-strength chew toys she could find.

Despite the chaos, Izuku had never been happier. He spent hours in his room, sitting on his All Might themed bed, talking to his arm.

"So, when the villain attacks," Izuku whispered, holding up a plastic villain action figure in his left hand, "I'll say, 'Fear not, citizen! I am here!' And then..."

Izuku nodded at Snappy, who was currently resting on a pillow. Snappy's painted eyes seemed to lock onto the villain figure.

"Go, Snappy!"

With a metallic snik, Snappy launched from the pillow. The coil stretched across the bed, and the green jaws clamped down perfectly on the villain figure, snatching it right out of Izuku’s hand. Snappy retracted, dropping the toy onto the mattress before letting out a cheerful clack-clack.

"Perfect!" Izuku cheered, throwing his arms up. "We're going to be the best hero team ever!"

He wasn't lonely anymore. The gnawing fear that he would be left behind by his peers, a fear that had haunted him for months as everyone else in his kindergarten class manifested their powers, had evaporated.

He had Snappy. And Snappy was amazing.

But Izuku's youthful optimism was about to clash with the brutal, status-obsessed reality of Quirk society.

Monday morning arrived. It was Izuku’s first day back at kindergarten since the incident at the playground.

He walked through the gates holding his mother's hand, his chest puffed out with pride. He wore a long-sleeved shirt, but he had rolled the right sleeve up, eager to show off the thick, fleshy cuff on his wrist where Snappy resided. He had finally figured out how to retract the coil completely, allowing Snappy's head to merge back into his arm, leaving only a faint green glow under his skin to indicate his presence.

"Have a good day, Izuku," Inko smiled, kissing his forehead. "Remember, don't let Snappy bite the furniture. And try not to scare the other children."

"I won't, Mom! Bye!" Izuku waved, rushing into the classroom.

The moment Izuku stepped through the door, the ambient chatter of the classroom died down. Every pair of eyes turned to him. Whispers erupted like wildfire.

"Is that him?"

"I heard he beat up Bakugo."

"My mom said he has a monster in his arm."

Izuku ignored them, walking straight to his cubby to put away his backpack. As he turned around, he found his path blocked by a familiar, scowling face.

Katsuki Bakugo stood there, arms crossed over his chest. His red eyes glared down at Izuku with a mixture of resentment and intense curiosity. The two lackeys from the park stood behind him, looking nervously at Izuku’s right arm.

"K-Kacchan," Izuku stammered, his old instinctual fear momentarily flaring up. He took a step back, hitting the cubbies.

"So," Katsuki said, his voice dangerously low for a four-year-old. "You finally got a Quirk."

"Y-Yeah," Izuku said, finding his courage. He looked down at his wrist. I'm not defenseless anymore, he reminded himself. I'm a hero. "His name is Snappy."

Katsuki scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Snappy? What a dumb name. Show it to me."

Izuku hesitated. "I don't know... he might scare you."

"Scare me?!" Katsuki shouted, tiny sparks igniting in his palms. "Nothing scares me! I'm going to be the Number One Hero! Show me your stupid Quirk right now, Deku!"

The sudden yell startled Izuku, triggering the emotional catalyst required to activate his power.

His right wrist glowed neon green. With a loud shhhk, the silver coil erupted from the cuff. Snappy’s bright green, plastic head shot out, stopping about two feet in front of Katsuki’s face, suspended by the taut metallic slinky.

The classroom erupted in gasps. Several children backed away in fear.

Snappy, sensing Katsuki’s aggression, opened his jaws and let out a rapid, threatening CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK! The sound echoed loudly in the confined space of the classroom.

Katsuki flinched, taking half a step backward, but quickly caught himself. He gritted his teeth, refusing to show fear in front of his peers. He stared at the alligator head, his eyes analyzing its cartoonish design, its painted eyes, its plastic texture.

Then, Katsuki started to laugh.

It wasn't a nervous laugh. It was a cruel, mocking, booming laugh that made Izuku’s stomach drop.

"Is this a joke?!" Katsuki crowed, pointing a finger at Snappy. "This is what hit me?! A stupid, cheap plastic toy?!"

Izuku felt his face burn. "He's not a toy! He's my Quirk! He's strong!"

"He looks like something you pull out of a cereal box!" Katsuki mocked, stepping closer to Snappy. Snappy clacked his teeth in warning, but Katsuki ignored him. He reached out and tapped his knuckles against Snappy’s snout. A hollow, plastic tink-tink sound rang out.

"Listen to that!" Katsuki yelled to the class. "It's hollow! It's fake! It's just a dumb, spring-loaded toy!"

"He's not fake!" Izuku yelled, tears of frustration springing to his eyes. Snappy vibrated on his coil, mirroring Izuku’s distress. "He can bite through wood! He can lift heavy things!"

"Who cares?!" Katsuki countered, bringing his palms together to create a loud, flashy explosion. The bright light illuminated the classroom, drawing awed gasps from the other children. "Heroes don't fight with toys, Deku! Heroes have strong, flashy Quirks. They have fire! They have strength! They have explosions!"

Katsuki stepped right into Izuku’s personal space, shoving Snappy aside. The plastic head bounced on its spring, unable to attack without Izuku’s explicit command, which Izuku was too panicked to give.

"You got lucky at the park because you surprised me," Katsuki sneered, poking a finger hard into Izuku’s chest. "But a gimmick is just a gimmick. A weird, creepy toy attached to your arm isn't going to make you a hero. You're still just Deku. The useless kid who needs a plastic alligator to fight his battles for him."

The words hit Izuku like a physical blow. The pride he had felt all weekend crumbled into ash. He looked around the room. The other children weren't looking at him with awe anymore. They were looking at him with pity, or worse, laughing along with Katsuki.

"Look at it, it's so goofy," one of the wing-quirk boys snickered.

"It's just a slinky," another girl whispered. "How embarrassing."

Izuku looked down at Snappy. The bright green alligator head was floating beside his waist, its metallic coil drooping sadly. Snappy let out a low, pathetic clack, looking up at Izuku with his painted white eyes.

Katsuki turned around, a triumphant smirk on his face. "Come on, guys. Let's go play somewhere else. The Toy Aisle is boring."

He walked away, taking his followers with him.

Izuku stood alone by the cubbies, fighting the urge to cry. He had thought that getting a Quirk would make him equal to Katsuki. He thought it would make them friends again, rivals who could push each other to be great heroes.

But society's hierarchy was rigid. Flashy, destructive emitter Quirks were at the top. Weird, unexplainable, cartoonish mutations were at the bottom.

A tear slipped down Izuku’s cheek, splashing onto Snappy’s plastic snout.

Suddenly, Izuku felt a gentle tug on his right arm.

He looked down. Snappy had raised his head. The metallic coil shifted as Snappy nudged his hard plastic snout against Izuku’s leg, rubbing affectionately like a cat.

Clack-clack, Snappy chirped, softly.

Izuku sniffled, wiping his eyes with his left sleeve. He looked at the toy alligator, really looked at him. Snappy wasn't flashy. He didn't create explosions or shoot fire. He looked ridiculous.

But when Katsuki had attacked that crying boy at the playground, Katsuki’s "heroic" explosion Quirk had been used to hurt someone. Snappy, the "useless toy," had been used to save someone.

A profound realization settled over the four-year-old boy.

A Quirk didn't make you a hero. How you used it did.

"You're not a stupid toy," Izuku whispered fiercely, crouching down to hug the plastic head. Snappy purred, a mechanical vibration thrumming through his coil. "You're my partner. And we're going to prove them all wrong. We're going to be the greatest heroes in the world."

From that day forward, the line was drawn. Katsuki Bakugo would walk the path of the golden child, praised for his raw, destructive power, his ego inflating with every compliment.

Izuku Midoriya would walk a much harder path. The path of the underdog. The boy with the weird, goofy Quirk. The boy they called "Deku."

But "Deku" didn't mean useless anymore. Not to Izuku. To him, it meant the boy who always had backup.

The years flowed by, a relentless march toward adolescence.

Growing up tethered to a sentient, spring-loaded alligator was a unique experience, one that shaped Izuku Midoriya in ways nobody could have anticipated.

By the time Izuku was ten years old, the physical toll of his Quirk had become apparent. Snappy’s weight grew as Izuku grew. The plastic head became larger, denser, and the metallic coil thickened, capable of sustaining massive amounts of kinetic tension. To prevent his right shoulder from dislocating every time Snappy retracted from a long distance, Izuku had to build muscle.

While other kids his age were playing video games, Izuku was doing pull-ups, push-ups, and lifting weights. His right arm, in particular, became incredibly dense and muscular, wrapped in compression bandages to handle the sheer recoil force of his Quirk.

His notebooks—his famous "Hero Analysis for the Future" journals—were filled not just with observations about other heroes, but with complex physics equations. Izuku became obsessed with kinetic energy, spring tension, trajectory, and tensile strength. He had to map out every variable before he launched Snappy, calculating exactly how much force the coil would exert upon retraction, and bracing his body accordingly.

Snappy evolved, too. He lost some of his puppy-like clumsiness, becoming a highly tuned, hyper-aware extension of Izuku's instincts. Izuku learned to control the tension in the metallic coil at will. He could launch Snappy with barely a whisper of force to gently grab a pencil off a desk, or he could fully compress the internal spring mechanism, firing Snappy out like a cannonball capable of denting solid steel.

They trained in secret. Behind their apartment building lay a stretch of abandoned, overgrown concrete lots and half-finished construction sites.

It was a brisk autumn evening. Twelve-year-old Izuku stood on the roof of a three-story abandoned building, the wind ruffling his messy green hair. He wore worn-out cargo pants, a plain white t-shirt, and heavy-duty grip gloves.

He took a deep breath, visualizing his target: a rusty crane hook hanging fifty feet away on the adjacent lot.

"Ready, Snappy?" Izuku asked, not looking at his arm.

Clack-clack, came the eager reply from his right wrist.

Izuku sprinted toward the edge of the roof. He didn't slow down as the edge approached. He threw himself into the empty air, plummeting toward the ground below.

Gravity took hold. The wind roared in his ears.

"Now!" Izuku yelled, thrusting his right arm out.

SNIK-SNIK-SNIK-SNIK!

The silver coil sang as it shot out of Izuku’s wrist with blinding speed. The green plastic head of Snappy tore through the air, jaws wide open.

CLANG!

Snappy bit down flawlessly onto the rusty steel crane hook. His blunt plastic teeth locked shut with an unbreakable grip.

Izuku was currently in mid-air, falling rapidly. The metallic slinky connecting him to the crane hook stretched tight. Ten feet. Twenty feet. Thirty feet.

The coil reached its maximum tension right before Izuku hit the ground. The sudden halt jerked his entire body violently, but his trained muscles absorbed the shock. He swung forward like a pendulum, suspended by the massive spring.

"Retract!" Izuku commanded.

Snappy’s internal mechanism triggered. The stretched coil aggressively snapped back to its resting state. Because Snappy was anchored to the massive, immovable crane, the retracting spring pulled Izuku upward.

ZIIIP-WHOOSH!

Izuku was slingshotted through the air, rocketing upward and forward with incredible speed. He flew past the crane hook, the wind tearing at his clothes, a massive grin splitting his face. As he passed the hook, Snappy released his bite, retracting seamlessly back into Izuku’s wrist in mid-air.

Izuku executed a perfect forward roll, landing gracefully on the roof of the next building over. He skidded to a halt, his boots scraping against the gravel.

He stood up, his chest heaving, his heart pounding with pure exhilaration. He looked down at his right arm. Snappy’s plastic head popped out a few inches, looking around with his painted eyes before letting out a victorious clack.

"Good job, buddy," Izuku panted, patting the hard green snout. "Our air mobility is up by twenty percent. We just need to work on the mid-air anchoring."

Izuku walked to the edge of the roof and looked out over the sprawling city of Musutafu. The city lights were beginning to flicker on, painting the skyline in a sea of gold and neon. Somewhere out there, heroes were fighting villains. Somewhere out there, All Might was saving people with a smile.

And somewhere out there, Katsuki Bakugo was undoubtedly training his explosions, convinced he was untouchable.

Izuku clenched his right fist. He wasn't the Quirkless, helpless kid from the playground anymore. He was Izuku Midoriya. He had a brain that analyzed everything, a body built to withstand extreme kinetic force, and an unbreakable plastic partner housed in his bones.

Middle school was starting next year. The path to U.A. High School, the greatest hero academy in the nation, was drawing closer.

Izuku looked down at Snappy, whose unblinking white eyes stared resolutely toward the horizon.

"They still think we're a joke, Snappy," Izuku said softly, the city wind carrying his words away. "They still think a hero needs to be a powerhouse of destruction."

Clack? Snappy tilted his head, the coil shifting slightly.

"But we'll show them," Izuku smiled, a fierce, unwavering determination burning in his emerald eyes. "We'll show them that a hero's true strength isn't in how hard they hit. It's in how tightly they can hold on."

Izuku turned away from the city lights, melting back into the shadows of the rooftop to resume his training. The metallic sound of a spring stretching and retracting echoed into the night, a relentless rhythm of preparation.

The world was about to find out exactly what happened when you pushed a toy past its breaking point. It was going to snap back.

The laws of physics were a language Izuku Midoriya spoke fluently.

For the average teenager, physics was a dull subject filled with abstract equations and numbers on a chalkboard. For fourteen-year-old Izuku, physics was the very fabric of his survival. It was the difference between a successful landing and a shattered tibia. It was the delicate, terrifying balance between potential energy and kinetic release.

Hooke’s Law, Izuku thought, his mind racing as the wind whipped through his messy green hair. Force equals the negative spring constant times the displacement. F = -kx.

He was currently in freefall, plummeting from the third-story scaffolding of an abandoned construction site in the sprawling, forgotten industrial district of Musutafu. The ground—a jagged landscape of broken concrete and rusted rebar—was rushing up to meet him at an alarming speed.

Izuku didn't panic. He simply calculated.

Displacement: forty feet. Spring constant: currently unknown, variable based on Snappy’s internal tension gauge. Required force to counteract gravity without dislocating my shoulder: roughly three hundred pounds of upward thrust.

"Snappy! Anchor point, two o'clock! Steel girder!" Izuku shouted, his voice cutting through the rush of the wind.

CLACK-CLACK!

From the thick, flesh-and-plastic cuff wrapping his right wrist, a streak of neon green and gleaming silver erupted. SNIK-SNIK-SNIK-SNIK! The metallic slinky-coil unspooled with a loud, ringing hum, blurring with sheer speed. At the end of the coil, the heavy, bright green plastic head of Snappy soared through the air, his painted white eyes fixed perfectly on the target.

With a deafening CLANG, Snappy’s blunt plastic teeth clamped down on the rusted steel girder protruding from the skeleton of the unfinished building above him. The bite force was instantaneous and absolute—a vice grip of several thousand pounds of pressure. Snappy was anchored.

Izuku braced himself. He tensed his core, locked his right elbow slightly to avoid hyperextension, and flexed the densely packed muscles of his right shoulder and back. Over the last ten years, his right arm had become noticeably more muscular than his left, developed specifically to handle the brutal, unforgiving recoil of his Quirk.

The slack in the silver coil vanished. The spring went taut.

JERK.

The kinetic shockwave traveled down the metallic coil and slammed into Izuku’s arm. He grunted, his teeth clicking together as his downward momentum was violently arrested. For a split second, he hung suspended in mid-air, a human pendulum swinging thirty feet above the concrete, tethered only by a cartoonish toy alligator biting a steel beam.

But Izuku didn't just want to swing. He wanted to fly.

"Retract! Full tension release!" Izuku commanded.

Deep inside his forearm, the internal mechanism of his Quirk engaged. The massive amount of potential energy stored in the stretched metallic coil was suddenly and aggressively converted into kinetic energy. The spring wanted to return to its natural, compressed state, and because Snappy was bolted to an immovable steel beam, there was only one direction for the energy to go.

ZIIIP-WHOOSH!

Izuku was violently yanked upward, slingshotted into the sky with the speed of a fired cannonball. He soared past the girder, the wind tearing at his clothes. At the exact apex of his arc, perfectly weightless for a microsecond, he gave the subtle mental command.

Snappy released his jaw. The plastic head zipped back to Izuku’s wrist, retracting seamlessly into the cuff with a heavy, satisfying THWACK.

Izuku tucked his knees into his chest, executing a flawless front flip over the top of the scaffolding, and landed on the solid concrete roof with a heavy thud. He skidded for a few feet, the reinforced soles of his custom red boots leaving black marks on the dusty ground, before coming to a perfect, balanced stop.

He stood up, brushing the concrete dust off his black middle school uniform trousers. He let out a long, shuddering breath, a massive, exhilarated smile stretching across his freckled face.

"Time!" he called out to himself, checking the digital stopwatch on his left wrist. "Four point two seconds from the drop to the landing. That's a new personal best, Snappy."

From his right wrist, Snappy’s head popped out about six inches on a relaxed coil. The plastic alligator let out a cheerful, rapid-fire clack-clack-clack, nuzzling his smooth, hard green snout against Izuku’s hand.

"Yeah, yeah, you did most of the work," Izuku chuckled, scratching the top of Snappy's head. "Your anchor precision is getting insanely good. If we can shave another half-second off the retraction time, we'll be able to outmaneuver any speed-type villain in an urban environment."

This was Izuku Midoriya’s secret life. To his classmates at Aldera Junior High, he was a quiet nerd with a Quirk that looked like a prop from a children's television show. But out here, in the concrete jungle, he was an acrobat, a tactical analyst, and a force of kinetic nature.

He had spent the last decade turning a "useless toy" into one of the most versatile mobility and capture tools imaginable. He had mapped the city, studied structural engineering to know which materials could withstand Snappy's bite and the subsequent recoil, and pushed his own body to its physical limits.

He was going to U.A. High School. He was going to be a hero.

Izuku checked his watch again and sighed. "We need to go, buddy. Homeroom starts in twenty minutes, and if we're late, Mr. Woods is going to make us clean the chalkboards again."

Snappy let out a disappointed whine—a sound created by the spring vibrating at a low frequency—and fully retracted into Izuku's arm. Izuku grabbed his yellow backpack from the corner of the roof, strapped it tightly to his shoulders, and walked to the edge.

Instead of taking the stairs, Izuku simply pointed his right arm at a telephone pole a block away. SNIK! The coil shot out, Snappy bit the wood, and Izuku swung seamlessly into the morning commute, traversing the city rooftops like a bright green spider.

Aldera Junior High was a crucible of teenage angst, raging hormones, and unchecked Quirk superiority complexes. And at the absolute apex of this chaotic food chain sat Katsuki Bakugo.

Izuku sat quietly at his desk in the middle row, methodically jotting down notes in his notebook, Hero Analysis for the Future, Vol. 13. He was currently sketching a diagram of the newly debuted heroine, Mt. Lady, trying to calculate the caloric intake required to fuel a gigantification Quirk of that magnitude.

At the front of the classroom, their homeroom teacher slapped a thick stack of papers onto his podium.

"So, as third-year students, it's time to start thinking seriously about your futures and what you want to do with your lives," the teacher announced, his voice carrying a tone of utter boredom. "I could pass out these career aptitude tests, but... why bother?"

With a theatrical flair, the teacher threw the stack of papers into the air. They rained down over the classroom like confetti.

"You all want to be heroes, right?!"

The classroom erupted. Students leaped out of their seats, cheering and showing off their Quirks. A girl enlarged her eyes; a boy pulled his neck like a turtle; another student shot small jets of water from his fingertips. It was a cacophony of minor mutations and weak emitter abilities.

Izuku didn't cheer. He simply raised his left hand slightly, acknowledging his goal, while keeping his right hand resting calmly on his desk.

"Yes, yes, you all have wonderful Quirks," the teacher sighed, trying to reign in the chaos. "But remember, using your powers in school is strictly against the rules."

"Hey, Teach!" a loud, arrogant voice cut through the noise, silencing the room instantly. "Don't lump me in with this bunch of losers. I'm not gonna be stuck at the bottom with the rest of these rejects."

Katsuki Bakugo sat with his feet kicked up on his desk, leaning back in his chair with a smirk of absolute supremacy. He was fourteen now, and his Explosion Quirk had grown exponentially in power. He was physically imposing, naturally talented at everything he did, and possessed an ego the size of a small moon.

"You think you're better than us, Katsuki?!" a boy shouted indignantly.

"I don't think it, I know it," Bakugo sneered, tiny sparks popping from his palms. "You extras will be lucky to end up as sidekicks to some busted D-lister. I'm taking the U.A. High School entrance exam. I'm gonna ace it, beat All Might's record, and become the richest, most famous hero in the world!"

Whispers broke out across the room. U.A.? The national school? Their acceptance rate is less than point two percent!

"Ah, yes, Bakugo," the teacher checked his clipboard. "You do have impressive test scores. You're definitely on track for U.A."

Bakugo grinned, soaking in the awe of his peers. But then, the teacher's eyes scanned further down the paper.

"Oh, Midoriya. You're applying for U.A. too, aren't you?"

The classroom went dead silent.

All eyes slowly turned to Izuku. Izuku didn't flinch. He kept his eyes on his notebook, finishing the shading on Mt. Lady's mask.

Then, the laughter started. It wasn't the pitying laughter of kindergarten; it was the cruel, derisive laughter of teenagers who had fully bought into the societal hierarchy.

"Midoriya? Seriously?!"

"The toy box kid?"

"What's he gonna do, shoot his slinky at a villain? 'Oh no, please don't bite me with your plastic teeth!'"

Izuku ignored them. He was used to it. He had spent ten years hearing every variation of the "toy" insult imaginable. It washed over him like water off a duck's back.

But Bakugo wasn't laughing.

Bakugo’s feet slammed onto the floor. He stood up, his face contorted in a mask of absolute fury. The explosions in his hands grew louder, shifting from sparks to small, aggressive blasts. He marched down the aisle, standing over Izuku's desk, casting a dark shadow over the notebook.

"Deku," Bakugo growled, his voice vibrating with barely contained rage. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"

Izuku finally looked up. His green eyes were calm, devoid of the paralyzing fear that used to define his interactions with Bakugo. "I'm applying to U.A., Kacchan. Just like you."

"Don't screw with me!" Bakugo slammed his hands down on Izuku’s desk, smoke rising from his palms. "You have a joke of a Quirk! A pathetic, ridiculous gimmick! You think you can stand in the same arena as me?! You'll die in the exams!"

The thick cuff on Izuku’s right wrist began to glow with a faint, pulsing green light.

Clack.

A low, threatening metallic vibration emanated from Izuku's arm. It wasn't loud, but in the tense silence of the classroom, it sounded like a weapon being cocked. Snappy was sensing Bakugo’s hostility, and the spring was involuntarily tensing, ready to defend its host.

Bakugo’s eyes flicked to the glowing wrist, his sneer deepening. "Go ahead. Let the plastic freak out. It didn't work when we were four, and it won't work now. I'll melt that stupid toy down to slag."

Izuku took a deep breath, willing his heart rate to slow down. He placed his left hand over his right wrist, gently rubbing the cuff. The green light faded. The vibration stopped.

"I'm not trying to compete with you, Kacchan," Izuku said evenly, picking up his pencil. "I just want to be a hero. My Quirk might not be flashy, but it's mine. I'm going to U.A."

Bakugo stared at him, a vein pulsing in his forehead. What infuriated Bakugo wasn't that Izuku had a weak Quirk; what infuriated him was that Izuku didn't act like he had a weak Quirk. Deku was supposed to be a stepping stone, a cowering loser to make Bakugo look better. Instead, Deku carried himself with a quiet, maddening confidence.

Before Izuku could react, Bakugo reached out and snatched the Hero Analysis notebook off the desk.

"Hero Analysis for the Future?" Bakugo read the cover, mocking laughter returning to his voice. "Don't delude yourself, Deku."

Bakugo pressed his hands flat against the front and back covers. A bright flash of heat and light erupted from his palms. Izuku flinched back as the scent of burning paper filled the air. Bakugo tossed the charred, smoking notebook onto the desk.

"Here's a piece of advice," Bakugo leaned in, his red eyes burning into Izuku's. "Save yourself the embarrassment. Withdraw your application. If I see you at the U.A. exams, I won't hold back."

Bakugo turned and walked out of the classroom as the final bell rang, his lackeys trailing behind him like pilot fish.

Izuku sat alone in the emptying classroom. He reached out and picked up the scorched notebook. The cover was ruined, but the pages inside were mostly intact. He brushed the ash off the binding.

Suddenly, Snappy’s head popped out of his sleeve. The alligator let out a mournful, low whine, nuzzling his plastic snout against the burnt edge of the book.

Izuku smiled softly, patting Snappy's head. "It's okay, buddy. It's just a notebook. We've got back-ups."

Clack-clack? Snappy tilted his head, looking toward the door where Bakugo had exited.

"I know he's mean," Izuku sighed, slipping the notebook into his yellow backpack. "But he's strong. If we're going to be heroes, we have to deal with people a lot worse than Kacchan."

Izuku stood up, slinging the backpack over his shoulders. He looked out the window. The afternoon sun was beginning to dip, casting long shadows across the city.

"Come on. Let's take the long way home. We need to clear our heads."

The route under the bridge was supposed to be a shortcut, a quiet concrete tunnel bypassing the busy downtown traffic. The only sound was the echo of Izuku's red boots against the pavement and the occasional drip of water from the grates above.

Izuku was lost in thought, muttering under his breath as he walked. "...if I utilize the tensile strength of the spring to bind rather than strike, I could potentially incapacitate a villain without relying on blunt force trauma. But the risk of Snappy's teeth puncturing..."

A strange, squelching sound broke his concentration.

Izuku stopped walking. He looked up.

Rising from the manhole cover in the center of the tunnel was a nightmare. It was a massive, shifting mountain of dark green, viscous sludge. It smelled like raw sewage and rotting garbage. Two massive, bulbous yellow eyes floated within the muck, along with a jagged mouth filled with uneven, decayed teeth.

"Well, well, well," the Sludge Villain gurgled, his voice wet and suffocating. "A medium-sized meat suit. You'll do nicely. I just need a place to hide for a while."

Izuku’s blood ran cold. The sheer predatory malice radiating from the creature triggered his fight-or-flight response.

Before Izuku could even process a conscious thought, his right arm moved on instinct.

SNIK!

Snappy erupted from the cuff, the silver coil blurring. The green plastic head shot forward like a bullet, aiming dead center for the villain's mass.

CHOMP!

Snappy’s jaws snapped shut with bone-crushing force... right in the middle of a puddle of liquid sludge.

"What the...?" Izuku gasped.

"A toy?" the villain laughed, his liquid body simply reforming around the metallic coil running through his chest. "Nice try, kid. But I'm fluid! You can't bite water!"

The villain lunged. A massive tidal wave of foul-smelling sludge crashed over Izuku, knocking him onto his back. Heavy, suffocating liquid poured over his face, forcing its way into his mouth, his nose, his throat.

I can't breathe! Izuku panicked, thrashing wildly. He clawed at the sludge covering his face, but his fingers just slipped right through.

"Don't fight it," the villain's voice echoed in his ears, chillingly close. "It'll only hurt for about forty-five seconds. Then it'll all be over."

Dark spots danced at the edges of Izuku’s vision. His lungs burned. He was drowning on dry land.

Think! Izuku’s mind screamed, his analytical brain desperately trying to cut through the panic. Physical attacks don't work. Binding doesn't work. He's liquid. How do you fight liquid?!

Izuku looked down at his right arm. Snappy was currently lodged deep inside the villain’s gelatinous body, his jaws opening and closing uselessly in the muck, frantically trying to find purchase. The metallic coil was extended about five feet.

Liquid. Viscosity. Surface tension. A crazy idea sparked in Izuku's fading consciousness.

Izuku grabbed his right forearm with his left hand, stabilizing the base of the cuff. He couldn't speak, but he didn't need to. He sent a desperate, forceful mental command down the coil.

Snappy! The Egg-Beater Protocol! Maximum rotation! Now!

Deep inside the sludge, Snappy stopped biting. Instead, the bright green plastic head locked its jaws shut. The internal mechanism within Izuku’s arm shifted gears. Instead of retracting the spring, Izuku channeled the kinetic energy laterally.

The metallic coil began to spin.

Slowly at first, then faster, and faster. Within three seconds, the five-foot metallic slinky connecting Izuku's wrist to Snappy's head was rotating at thousands of revolutions per minute, acting like a massive, industrial-grade blender blade right in the center of the villain's mass.

"Hey! What are you doing?!" the Sludge Villain screamed, his liquid body suddenly contorting violently.

The high-speed rotation of the metallic coil created a massive vortex inside the sludge. The centrifugal force began to rip the villain's liquid body apart from the inside, pulling the sludge away from Izuku's face and sucking it toward the spinning metal.

The thick coating of sludge over Izuku’s mouth tore open.

Izuku gasped, taking in a massive, ragged breath of sweet, oxygen-rich air. He coughed violently, expelling vile-tasting muck from his lungs.

"Stop that!" the villain roared, trying to condense his body to crush the spinning coil, but the sheer kinetic velocity of the metal was too great. The Sludge Villain was being churned like butter.

Izuku had bought himself air, but he was trapped. He couldn't keep the rotation up forever; the friction was causing the cuff on his wrist to heat up to an agonizing degree.

I can't beat him, Izuku realized, his muscles screaming. I just need to hold him off until—

Suddenly, the manhole cover in the distance blew completely off its hinges, clattering loudly against the tunnel wall.

Heavy, thunderous footsteps echoed through the underpass. A shadow fell over the tunnel, blocking out the light from the street.

"Fear not, young man!" a booming, larger-than-life voice echoed, resonating with sheer, unadulterated power. "For I am here!"

Izuku's eyes widened. Even through the blur of tears and sludge, he recognized that silhouette anywhere. The towering physique, the V-shaped torso, the two iconic tufts of blond hair standing up like rabbit ears.

All Might. The Number One Hero.

"All Might..." Izuku choked out.

The Sludge Villain shrieked in terror. He abandoned Izuku, pulling his mass away from the spinning coil and rearing back to strike the hero with a massive liquid tendril.

All Might didn't even flinch. He drew his right fist back, his muscles bulging with impossible pressure.

"TEXAS... SMASH!"

All Might threw a punch. He didn't hit the villain; he simply punched the air itself.

The resulting shockwave was apocalyptic. A massive wall of wind pressure tore through the tunnel, hitting the Sludge Villain with the force of a hurricane. The villain's liquid body was instantly atomized, blown apart into thousands of tiny droplets that splattered against the tunnel walls.

The sheer force of the wind hit Izuku, blowing him backward. He hit the concrete hard, his vision swimming. The last thing he saw before darkness claimed him was the towering, smiling face of his lifelong idol leaning over him.

Izuku woke up to a rhythmic slapping sensation against his cheek.

"Hey! Hey! Wake up, kid!"

Izuku’s eyes snapped open. He was lying on the grass just outside the tunnel. Standing over him, casting a massive shadow, was All Might.

"Ah! Good! You're awake!" All Might boomed, his trademark grin shining like a beacon. "Sorry about that back there! I didn't mean to catch you in the crossfire of my smash! But you're safe now! I've captured the villain!"

All Might held up two large plastic soda bottles. Inside them, the Sludge Villain was trapped, frantically swirling around in the confined space.

Izuku scrambled to his feet, his heart hammering in his chest like a jackhammer. He was standing face-to-face with a living god. The man he had idolized since he was a toddler.

"All Might! You... you're really here! In person!" Izuku stammered, his analytical brain completely short-circuiting. "I need an autograph! Where's my notebook?!"

Izuku dug frantically through his yellow backpack, pulling out the burnt Hero Analysis notebook Bakugo had ruined. He flipped it open to a blank page. But to his absolute shock, an impossibly large signature taking up two whole pages was already there.

"He already signed it!" Izuku bowed repeatedly, his body vibrating with fanboy energy. "Thank you so much! It will be a family heirloom! I'll pass it down for generations!"

All Might let out a hearty laugh, tucking the bottles of sludge into the oversized pockets of his cargo pants. "Well, I must be off! A hero's work is never done! Take care, young man!"

All Might bent his knees, the muscles in his legs coiling like massive springs.

Wait. Izuku couldn't let him leave. He had a question. A question he had carried in his heart for ten years. He needed to know if a boy with a ridiculous toy for a Quirk could ever stand on the same stage as the Symbol of Peace.

As All Might leaped into the sky, propelled by impossible strength, Izuku acted on pure instinct.

"Snappy! Anchor!"

SNIK!

The green plastic head shot out, the silver coil unspooling in a fraction of a second. Snappy’s jaws clamped firmly onto the heavy fabric of All Might’s cargo pants, right at the thigh.

Izuku didn't retract the spring. He just let himself be pulled.

The wind roared instantly, tearing the breath from Izuku's lungs as he was dragged into the sky at the speed of a jet plane. He dangled hundreds of feet in the air, his right arm stretched taut, his fingers gripping the base of the cuff to secure his hold.

All Might looked down, his smile faltering into a mask of pure horror. "Hey! What are you doing?! Let go! Are you crazy?!"

"If I let go now, I'll die!" Izuku screamed over the rushing wind, his eyes watering violently.

"Oh! Right!" All Might realized, sweating profusely. "Just... hold on! I'll find a place to land!"

A minute later, All Might touched down on the roof of a tall office building, skidding slightly. Izuku retracted Snappy, the plastic head releasing the pants and zipping back into Izuku's wrist. Izuku collapsed onto the rooftop, his legs turning to jelly, gasping for breath.

"That was incredibly reckless, young man!" All Might scolded, though his voice sounded strangely strained. "You could have been killed!"

"I... I'm sorry," Izuku panted, pushing himself up. "But I had to ask you something. I need to know..."

Izuku looked up, his green eyes burning with ten years of suppressed longing. "My Quirk... it's a mutation. It looks like a toy. It's not flashy, and it doesn't cause explosions or shoot fire. People tell me it's a joke. But I want to save people. I want to be a hero who smiles, just like you!"

Izuku took a deep breath. "Can someone with a goofy Quirk... ever become a great hero?"

Silence fell over the rooftop.

Izuku waited for the booming, inspirational confirmation. He waited for All Might to strike a pose and tell him that anything was possible.

Instead, a thick cloud of steam suddenly erupted from All Might’s body.

Izuku coughed, waving the steam away. "All Might...?"

When the steam cleared, the towering, muscular god was gone. In his place stood a skeletal, emaciated man with sunken eyes, wearing clothes that hung off his frail frame like a scarecrow. He was coughing violently, a trickle of blood running down his chin.

Izuku shrieked, backing up against the rooftop fencing. "What happened?! You deflated! Are you an imposter?!"

The skeletal man wiped the blood from his mouth, letting out a weary sigh. He slumped down, sitting cross-legged on the concrete. "I am All Might. Though... I suppose I don't look the part right now, do I?"

For the next ten minutes, All Might explained the brutal reality of his existence. He lifted his shirt, revealing a horrifying, jagged scar covering his entire left side. He explained the battle from five years ago, the destroyed respiratory system, the missing stomach, and the strict three-hour daily time limit on his hero work.

Izuku listened, horrified. The invincible god of his childhood was broken. He was a man slowly bleeding to death, holding up the world on fractured shoulders.

"You asked me if you could be a great hero with a... non-traditional Quirk," All Might said, his voice raspy but surprisingly gentle. "I saw how you used your power in the tunnel. That spinning maneuver... it was highly tactical. It bought you time. It was smart."

Izuku’s heart leapt.

"But," All Might continued, his blue eyes hardening. "A tactical tool is not always enough. Villains are ruthless. They are monsters who will tear you apart without a second thought. A pro hero is always risking their life."

All Might stood up, walking toward the rooftop door. "Can you be a great hero? Perhaps. As an underground hero, or a rescue specialist, your power could be invaluable. But if you want to stand at the top... if you want to fight the true monsters of this world... you must be prepared for the reality that a tool can break. And when it breaks, you die."

All Might placed his hand on the door handle. "It's not bad to dream, young man. Just... make sure your dreams are attainable. Police work is a noble profession, too."

The door clicked shut. All Might was gone.

Izuku stood frozen on the rooftop. The words felt like a heavy stone sinking in his chest. As an underground hero... rescue specialist... a tool can break.

All Might hadn't told him no. But he hadn't told him yes, either. He had looked at Izuku’s power and seen a utility, not a weapon. He had seen a sidekick, not a Symbol.

Clack.

Snappy popped out of Izuku’s wrist, rubbing his plastic head against Izuku’s hand in a comforting gesture. Izuku looked down at the toy alligator, a hollow feeling in his stomach.

"It's okay, Snappy," Izuku whispered, forcing a smile. "He didn't say we couldn't do it. He just... he just doesn't know what we're capable of yet."

But the doubt had been planted. Was he deluding himself? Was Bakugo right?

Suddenly, a massive, deafening BOOM echoed across the city.

Izuku jumped, running to the edge of the roof. Several blocks away, in the shopping district, a massive pillar of black smoke was rising into the sky. Plumes of orange fire licked the edges of the buildings.

Izuku frowned. A villain attack? But All Might just caught...

A horrifying thought struck Izuku. He remembered grabbing onto All Might's leg. He remembered the wild flight through the sky.

If All Might had the bottles in his pockets... and he was jostled...

Izuku sprinted for the stairs. He didn't use Snappy to swing. He just ran. He ran with a sickening dread building in his gut, praying to a god he wasn't sure existed anymore that he hadn't just unleashed a nightmare on innocent people.

Tatooin Shopping District was a warzone.

Fire raged through the storefronts, shattering glass and melting streetlamps. A massive crowd of terrified onlookers had formed a perimeter, held back by a hastily erected police barricade. Pro Heroes—Kamui Woods, Death Arms, Mt. Lady, and Backdraft—were on the scene, but they were entirely useless.

In the center of the blazing inferno stood the Sludge Villain, now twice his original size.

And trapped within his viscous mass, struggling violently, was Katsuki Bakugo.

"He's using the kid's Explosion Quirk!" Death Arms yelled, shielding his face from the heat. "We can't get close! He's too volatile!"

"My wood will catch fire instantly!" Kamui Woods gritted his teeth in frustration.

"I need a two-lane road to get in there!" Mt. Lady complained.

The heroes were waiting. They were waiting for someone with a better Quirk, someone with an elemental advantage to show up.

Izuku burst through the crowd, panting heavily. He pushed his way to the front of the barricade and froze in sheer horror.

It was his fault. He had dropped the bottles. He had let the monster out.

He looked at the center of the sludge. Bakugo’s face was half-submerged, his crimson eyes wide with an emotion Izuku had never seen on him before.

It was terror. Pure, unadulterated terror. He was suffocating. He was dying.

Izuku looked at the heroes. They weren't moving. They were just watching.

They're waiting, Izuku realized, his heart pounding a frantic rhythm against his ribs. They're waiting for someone else. But there's no one else here!

The notebook in Izuku's mind slammed shut. The physics equations vanished. The doubts All Might had planted evaporated into the fiery air.

Before his conscious mind could even process the command, Izuku Midoriya’s legs moved.

He sprinted past the police barricade, diving under the yellow tape.

"Hey! Kid! Stop!" Death Arms roared, reaching out to grab him, but Izuku was already gone.

He charged straight into the inferno. The heat blasted his face, singeing his eyebrows, but he didn't care. His eyes were locked on Bakugo.

"Deku?!" Bakugo choked out, a mixture of shock and rage bubbling through the sludge. "What... what are you doing here?!"

"I don't know!" Izuku screamed back, tears streaming down his face. "My legs just moved!"

The Sludge Villain laughed, a monstrous, gurgling sound. "You again?! The kid with the spinning toy! You're back for round two?! This time, I'll snap that little spring in half!"

The villain raised a massive, spiked tendril of sludge, bringing it down like a whip to crush Izuku.

Izuku ripped his yellow backpack off his shoulders and hurled it with all his might. The heavy bag sailed through the air, completely missing the tendril, and slammed directly into the Sludge Villain's right eye.

"AGH!" the villain shrieked, his concentration breaking. The tendril missed Izuku by inches, shattering the pavement beside him. The sludge around Bakugo loosened slightly, allowing the blonde boy to gasp for air.

But Izuku wasn't done. The backpack was just a distraction. He needed a solid anchor. He couldn't bite the liquid. He needed a physical target.

Izuku locked his eyes on the villain's other eye—the massive, bulbous yellow orb floating in the muck.

It wasn't liquid. It was solid matter.

Izuku planted his feet wide, digging the reinforced soles of his red boots into the cracked asphalt. He lowered his center of gravity, squaring his shoulders. He pulled his right arm back like a pitcher winding up for a fastball.

The green light on his wrist flared with blinding intensity.

"SNAPPY!" Izuku roared, his voice echoing over the roaring flames. "TARGET: LEFT EYE! SOLID ANCHOR! DO NOT LET GO!"

SNIK-SNIK-SNIK-SNIK!

The silver coil shot out of Izuku’s wrist with a sonic crack. It was moving faster than it ever had before, a blur of pure kinetic fury.

CHOMP!

The bright green plastic jaws of Snappy slammed dead center into the Sludge Villain’s left eyeball. The blunt plastic teeth locked shut with a sickening, wet crunch, anchoring themselves perfectly into the solid mass of the giant eye.

The Sludge Villain let out an ear-piercing scream of absolute agony. His entire liquid body convulsed, thrashing wildly. "MY EYE! YOU LITTLE RAT! MY EYE!"

The villain tried to pull back, but Snappy's jaws were unbreakable. The metallic coil stretched taut across the twenty feet separating Izuku and the monster.

Izuku didn't retract. If he retracted now, he would just slingshot himself into the flaming sludge. He needed to do the exact opposite. He needed to pull the villain apart.

Izuku grabbed the base of the silver coil near his wrist with his left hand, locking both hands together.

"Bakugo!" Izuku screamed, his muscles straining against the sheer tension of the spring. "Grab the coil!"

Bakugo, despite his pride, was a survivor. Seeing the taut, humming silver metal inches from his face, he reached out with a sludge-covered hand and clamped his fingers around the metallic slinky, right behind Snappy's head.

"I've got him!" Izuku yelled.

And then, Izuku Midoriya walked backward.

It was an agonizing display of physical exertion. The Sludge Villain was massive, weighing easily over a ton. The metallic spring in Izuku’s arm was groaning, fighting against its own natural tension to stretch further and further.

Creak... groan...

Izuku dug his heels in, his boots carving deep trenches into the melted asphalt. His thigh muscles bulged, burning with lactic acid. The veins in his neck popped. He threw his entire body weight backward, pulling against the monster.

"Let... GO!" the villain roared, trying to swim backward, but the hook in his eye held firm.

The tension in the silver coil reached its absolute critical mass. It was vibrating so violently it was emitting a high-pitched sonic whine. The spring was stretched to its absolute limit; any further, and it would snap, destroying Izuku’s Quirk forever.

"Now, Snappy!" Izuku roared, tears of exertion flying from his eyes. "RETRACT!"

Izuku threw his body weight forward simultaneously, releasing his grip on the base of the coil.

The physics were undeniable. The massive amount of potential energy stored in the hyper-extended spring snapped back instantly.

Because Snappy’s bite on the eyeball was slipping from the villain's thrashing, the anchor point failed. The spring violently contracted toward Izuku.

ZIIIIIIIIP-CRACK!

Snappy ripped out of the villain's eye, tearing a chunk of the gelatinous mass with him.

Because Bakugo was holding onto the coil right behind Snappy’s head, he became part of the projectile.

The kinetic recoil slingshotted Katsuki Bakugo completely out of the Sludge Villain's body. He was yanked through the air with terrifying speed, flying out of the inferno like a blonde missile.

Bakugo flew right over Izuku's head. Izuku ducked, feeling the heat of the explosions as Bakugo tumbled across the pavement behind him, rolling safely out of the fire zone.

Snappy’s head snapped back into Izuku’s wrist with a bone-jarring impact that knocked Izuku clean off his feet. He hit the ground hard, his right arm going completely numb from the kinetic shockwave.

The Sludge Villain, blinded in one eye and robbed of his hostage, exploded in a frenzy of rage.

"I'LL KILL YOU!" the villain screamed, raising a massive wave of sludge to crash down on the defenseless, prone Izuku.

Izuku closed his eyes. He couldn't move his arm. He had spent everything. But as the shadow of death fell over him, a bizarre, peaceful thought entered his mind.

I saved him.

But the fatal blow never came.

A massive hand grabbed the front of Izuku's shirt, pulling him out of the way just as the sludge wave crashed into the pavement.

Izuku opened his eyes. Standing over him, his muscles bulging, his face a mask of absolute, terrifying fury, was All Might. He had reverted to his muscle form, blood leaking from the corner of his mouth, pushing past his limits.

"I really am pathetic," All Might growled, his voice vibrating with power. "I told you what it takes to be a champion... but I didn't live up to my own ideals!"

All Might grabbed Izuku’s arm, pulling the boy behind him. He planted his feet, gripping the wrist of his right arm with his left hand.

"Pros are always risking their lives!" All Might roared, looking directly at the terrified Sludge Villain.

"DETROIT... SMASH!"

The punch defied reality. It didn't just atomize the villain; the sheer wind pressure created by the physical blow shot straight up into the atmosphere. The pressure change was so massive it gathered the clouds together, and a second later, rain began to pour down over the blazing shopping district, extinguishing the fires instantly.

The crowd went dead silent, staring in awe at the hero who had literally changed the weather with a single punch.

Izuku sat on the wet pavement, his right arm throbbing, staring up at the broad, steaming back of All Might.

The invincible god had returned. But this time, Izuku knew exactly what it cost him to stand there.

The aftermath was a blur of flashing sirens, angry paramedics, and scolding heroes.

Kamui Woods and Death Arms cornered Izuku near an ambulance, lecturing him endlessly.

"Are you insane, kid?!" Death Arms yelled, pointing a thick finger at Izuku. "You have a death wish?! Running into a fire zone with a... a grappling hook Quirk?! You only made the situation worse! You almost got yourself killed!"

"If you hadn't provoked it, the villain wouldn't have gone berserk!" Kamui Woods added sternly. "Leave the hero work to the professionals!"

Izuku just bowed his head, accepting the berating. He knew they were right. It was reckless. It was stupid. But he couldn't bring himself to regret it.

Across the street, the heroes were treating Bakugo completely differently.

"What an amazing Quirk!" Mt. Lady cooed, praising the blonde boy. "And such endurance to survive in that sludge! You'll be an amazing hero one day, kid!"

Bakugo ignored them. He was sitting on the back of an ambulance, a towel draped over his shoulders, staring blankly at the ground. He didn't look like a victor. He looked shaken.

Eventually, the police cleared the scene, and Izuku was allowed to go home.

He walked through the darkening streets, his right arm resting heavily in a makeshift sling a paramedic had fashioned for him. The muscles were deeply bruised from the extreme recoil, and Snappy was resting quietly inside the cuff, too exhausted to even clack.

Izuku felt a strange mix of emotions. He had acted like a hero, but he had been treated like a nuisance. He had saved Kacchan, but he was no closer to his dream.

"Deku!"

Izuku stopped. He turned around.

Katsuki Bakugo was jogging toward him, breathing heavily. He stopped a few feet away, his fists clenched at his sides. He looked at Izuku, his red eyes burning with a complex storm of pride, anger, and humiliation.

"Listen to me, you damn nerd," Bakugo gritted his teeth, refusing to make eye contact. "I never asked for your help! You didn't save me! I would have broken out of that sludge myself! You hear me?! I didn't need you!"

Izuku blinked, mildly surprised. He expected an explosion, but Bakugo’s hands were completely still.

"And... and that stupid toy of yours..." Bakugo pointed a trembling finger at Izuku's sling. "It's still a gimmick! Don't think for a second this makes us equals! I'm still going to U.A., and I'm still going to be Number One!"

Bakugo turned on his heel and stormed away into the night, refusing to look back.

Izuku watched him go, a small, genuine smile creeping onto his face. Bakugo would never say "thank you." That simply wasn't in his vocabulary. But tracking Izuku down just to yell at him? That was as close to an acknowledgment as Bakugo was capable of giving.

"He's right, Snappy," Izuku whispered to his arm. "We're not equals yet. We still have a long way to go."

Clack. A soft, tired sound of agreement came from the sling.

Izuku turned to continue his walk home, but he nearly jumped out of his skin.

Standing at the entrance of the alleyway, looking significantly healthier than he had on the rooftop, was All Might in his muscle form.

"I AM HERE!" All Might announced loudly, striking a dramatic pose.

"All Might?!" Izuku gasped, looking around frantically to see if anyone was watching. "What are you doing here?! How did you get away from the reporters?!"

All Might laughed, a booming sound. "Hahaha! Evading the press is a piece of cake for a pro! Why, I simply..."

Suddenly, the steam erupted again. All Might deflated, coughing up blood, returning to his skeletal form.

Izuku sighed. "You pushed yourself too hard again."

All Might wiped his mouth, his blue eyes locking onto Izuku with intense, serious gravity.

"Young man. I came here to apologize. And to thank you."

Izuku’s eyes widened. "Thank me? But I got in the way. The other heroes said—"

"Forget what the other heroes said," All Might interrupted sharply. "They were standing around, waiting for a perfect Quirk match. You... you possessed a Quirk that was entirely unsuited for that situation. A physical grappling tool against a fluid, blazing inferno. It was tactical suicide."

All Might took a step closer. "But out of everyone there... out of the pros, the police, and the bystanders... the only one whose body moved before he had a chance to think... was you."

Izuku felt a lump form in his throat. Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes.

"Top heroes," All Might said softly, "have stories about their school days. Most of their stories have one thing in common: their bodies moved before they had a chance to think."

Izuku fell to his knees, his good hand clutching his chest. The tears finally spilled over. Ten years of mockery, ten years of being called a joke, ten years of pushing his body to the breaking point for a dream everyone said was impossible.

"You asked me if you could be a great hero with a non-traditional Quirk," All Might said, standing over the crying boy. "I told you a tool can break. But today, I saw the truth. The tool didn't matter. What mattered was the spirit of the boy wielding it."

All Might reached out, resting a bony, scarred hand on Izuku’s shoulder.

"Young man," All Might smiled, and for the first time, it wasn't a show for the cameras. It was a genuine, radiant smile of hope. "You too can become a hero."

Izuku sobbed openly, burying his face in his hands. It was the validation he had spent his entire life waiting for.

"Your Quirk is unique, my boy," All Might said, looking at the glowing cuff in Izuku's sling. "It requires intelligence, spatial awareness, and immense physical fortitude. It is a perfect foundation. But to survive at U.A., you will need more than a foundation."

All Might stood tall, the wind rustling his baggy clothes.

"I deem you worthy of inheriting my power."

Izuku stopped crying. He slowly looked up, sniffing violently. "...Inherit? Your power?"

"Yes!" All Might grinned. "It's a secret, passed down from generation to generation! The name of my Quirk is... One For All!"

Izuku stared at him. Then, he looked down at his right arm. Snappy poked his green plastic head out of the sling, letting out a confused, high-pitched chirp.

"Wait," Izuku said, his analytical brain rebooting instantly. "Inherit a Quirk? That's scientifically impossible. Quirks are genetic anomalies, rooted in the user's DNA factor. Unless your Quirk is specifically designed to alter or transfer genetic code—"

"Stop muttering!" All Might laughed, waving his hands. "It's true! I can give it to you! And with your tactical mind and my raw power, you'll be unstoppable!"

Izuku looked at All Might. Then he looked at Snappy.

He thought about the recoil. He thought about the delicate kinetic balance required to use Snappy without tearing his own arm off. He thought about what would happen if he combined the explosive, reality-bending strength of All Might with a spring-loaded plastic alligator.

If he put All Might's power into his right arm and fired Snappy... the recoil wouldn't just dislocate his shoulder. It would probably rip his entire arm off, shoot Snappy through a mountain, and kill them both.

"All Might," Izuku said slowly, a complex expression crossing his face. "I... I am honored. Truly. More than you can ever know."

Izuku stood up, cradling his right arm. He looked into the skeletal hero's eyes.

"But... I have to say no."

All Might froze. His jaw practically unhinged. "EHHHHH?!"

"My Quirk is kinetic," Izuku explained quickly, his hands waving in defense. "It relies on a very specific physical balance. If I suddenly gained your level of raw strength, my internal spring mechanism wouldn't be able to handle the tension. The recoil would destroy my body. Snappy and I... we have a rhythm. I can't break that."

All Might stared at him, utterly dumbfounded. "You're... turning down the greatest power in the world... because of... physics?"

"And because he's my partner," Izuku smiled softly, patting Snappy's hard plastic head. Snappy let out a proud, happy clack-clack. "I want to prove that we can do this. I want to show the world that a boy with a goofy toy can stand at the top. If I take your power... then I'm just winning with your strength. I need to win with ours."

All Might looked at the boy. He saw the determination. He saw the sheer, unyielding stubbornness. He sighed, a soft, admiring smile touching his lips.

"You are a strange boy, Izuku Midoriya," All Might chuckled. "But I respect your resolve. Very well. Keep your Quirk. But U.A. is ten months away. You are physically fit, but you lack the endurance to use that spring in an extended combat scenario."

All Might pointed a bony finger at Izuku. "If you won't take my power, then take my guidance. I will train you. I will push your body until it breaks, and then I will build you back up. You will learn to handle the recoil of a thousand bites. Do you accept?"

Izuku’s eyes shone with pure fire. He bowed deeply, ignoring the pain in his arm.

"Yes, sir! Please train us!"

The path was set. The spring was wound. Ten months of hell awaited him, but Izuku Midoriya was ready to snap.

The smell of Dagobah Municipal Beach Park was not something one easily forgot. It was a suffocating amalgamation of rotting kelp, oxidized metal, stagnant seawater, and the distinct, sour odor of a thousand discarded appliances baking under the afternoon sun.

For years, the ocean currents had conspired with the laziness of Musutafu’s citizens, transforming a once-pristine stretch of white sand into an illegal dumping ground. Mountains of rusted refrigerators, hollowed-out cars, shattered televisions, and decaying furniture formed a jagged, treacherous labyrinth that stretched for miles along the coastline.

To most people, it was an eyesore. A monument to societal neglect.

But to Toshinori Yagi—known to the world as the Number One Hero, All Might—it was the perfect crucible.

"Holy crap," fourteen-year-old Izuku Midoriya breathed, standing at the top of the concrete stairs leading down to the beach. He tightened his grip on the straps of his yellow backpack, his wide green eyes scanning the seemingly insurmountable landscape of garbage. "It looks even worse up close than it does from the street."

A heavy, skeletal hand clapped Izuku firmly on the shoulder.

"A tragedy of the modern era, my boy," All Might sighed. He was currently in his true form, a towering but emaciated figure in an oversized white t-shirt and baggy cargo pants. He coughed softly into a handkerchief before continuing. "People rely so heavily on heroes to handle the big problems—villains, disasters, meteor strikes—that they simply stopped taking responsibility for the little things. They think, 'Oh, some hero with a telekinesis Quirk will clean this up eventually.' But heroes don't have jurisdiction over illegal dumping. And so, the rot festers."

Izuku nodded slowly, his analytical mind already trying to calculate the sheer tonnage of the trash below them. "There has to be thousands of tons here. What does this have to do with U.A., All Might? Are we looking for something?"

All Might stepped forward, the ocean breeze catching his messy blonde hair. Suddenly, steam violently erupted from his pores, engulfing him in a thick, white cloud. When the steam dissipated, the skeletal man was gone.

"WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR SOMETHING!" All Might boomed, his massive, hyper-muscular form casting a long shadow over the stairs. His trademark grin was plastered across his face, his voice resonating with that familiar, god-like confidence. "WE ARE HERE TO CLEAN IT UP!"

Izuku blinked. He looked at the miles of garbage. He looked at All Might. He looked down at his right arm.

"Clean it up?" Izuku squeaked, his voice cracking. "Just... the two of us?"

"No, young Midoriya!" All Might laughed heartily, pointing a massive finger at Izuku's chest. "Just YOU!"

Izuku’s jaw dropped. "Me?! But... but the U.A. Entrance Exam is in ten months! Even with an entire construction crew, this would take years!"

"Ah, but you are not an ordinary construction crew!" All Might declared, pulling a thick stack of stapled papers from his pocket and thrusting them into Izuku's hands. "You are a young man with a dream! And this is your roadmap to achieving it!"

Izuku looked down at the packet. The cover page featured a poorly drawn doodle of Izuku, All Might, and Snappy flexing. Above them, in bold, messy handwriting, were the words: THE AIM TO PASS: AMERICAN DREAM PLAN (TOY BOX EDITION).

"When you declined my offer to inherit my power, I had to rethink my approach," All Might explained, crossing his massive, tree-trunk arms. "My original plan was to build your physical vessel so it wouldn't explode when you received One For All. But since you are forging your own path, we must focus entirely on maximizing the potential of your own Quirk. Tell me, young Midoriya, what is your Quirk's greatest weakness?"

Izuku didn't even have to think about it. He rolled up his right sleeve, revealing the thick, fleshy, plastic-like cuff resting just below his wrist. Snappy’s bright green head poked out slightly, the painted white eyes looking up at All Might.

Clack? Snappy chirped lazily.

"The recoil," Izuku answered immediately, his tone shifting into serious analysis. "Snappy operates on a highly condensed, biological metallic spring. When he bites an anchor point and I retract the spring, the kinetic energy has to go somewhere. If the object he bites is lighter than me, it gets pulled to me. If the object is heavier than me, I get pulled to it. But the kinetic shockwave travels directly down the coil and into my arm, shoulder, and back."

Izuku rubbed his right shoulder subconsciously. "If I stretch the spring to its absolute maximum tension and retract it, the whiplash generates nearly two thousand pounds of instantaneous force. If I don't brace my muscles perfectly, it will dislocate my shoulder, tear my rotator cuff, or snap my collarbone."

All Might nodded approvingly. "Exactly! Your brain is a supercomputer, young man, but your body is still a dial-up modem! To survive the U.A. Entrance Exam, you cannot afford to hesitate or over-calculate your bracing every time you fire your partner. Your body must act as an unbreakable shock absorber automatically."

All Might swept his hand across the vista of trash. "This beach is your gymnasium. By hauling tires, lifting refrigerators, and dragging cars through the sand, you will build the raw, dense muscle required to handle your Quirk's recoil without thinking. And furthermore, it will force you to use your Quirk creatively to move objects you cannot lift alone."

All Might reverted back to his skinny form in a puff of steam, wiping a speck of blood from his chin. "Ten months, Izuku Midoriya. If you can clear this beach in ten months, your body will be ready to withstand anything."

Izuku looked out over the ocean of garbage. It was a terrifying, seemingly impossible task. The sheer scale of it was enough to make anyone give up before they even started.

But Izuku thought of Katsuki Bakugo’s mocking laughter. He thought of the heroes telling him to step aside. He thought of the feeling of All Might’s hand on his shoulder, telling him he could be a hero.

Izuku’s eyes hardened. He shoved the paper packet into his backpack and tossed the bag onto the concrete. He reached over with his left hand and gave Snappy’s plastic snout a firm, affectionate pat.

"Ready for a workout, buddy?" Izuku asked.

Snappy’s head fully emerged from the cuff. The alligator snapped his jaws open and shut in a rapid, energetic staccato. CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK! The silver coil hummed with eager vibration.

"Let's get to work," Izuku said, taking his first step onto the sand.

The first month of the Dagobah Beach Cleanup was nothing short of sheer, agonizing torture.

Izuku discovered very quickly that lifting heavy objects on solid ground was hard; lifting heavy objects while sinking ankle-deep into loose sand was a specialized kind of hell. By the end of the first week, Izuku’s hands were covered in raw, weeping blisters. Every muscle in his body screamed in protest, flooding with lactic acid until even lifting his arms to brush his teeth felt like moving through wet cement.

His training schedule was brutal. Wake up at 4:30 AM. Run three miles to the beach. Move trash for two hours. Go to school. Endure the sneers and mocking from Bakugo and the other students. Return to the beach at 4:00 PM. Move trash until the sun went down. Go home, eat twice his body weight in protein, study for school, sleep. Repeat.

Snappy, for his part, was trying his absolute best to help, though his efforts often yielded mixed results.

It was late afternoon on a sweltering Tuesday. Izuku, wearing an old white tank top completely soaked in sweat, was currently locked in a tug-of-war with a rusted, waterlogged sofa half-buried in the sand.

"Heave!" Izuku grunted, pulling on a frayed rope he had tied around the armrest. The sofa groaned but didn't budge.

From Izuku’s wrist, Snappy popped out, watching Izuku struggle. The toy alligator let out a metallic whine, clearly sensing his host's frustration.

"It's... it's stuck," Izuku panted, dropping the rope and resting his hands on his knees. "The sand created a suction seal around the base."

Snik!

Before Izuku could stop him, Snappy shot forward. The metallic coil unspooled, and the green plastic head clamped its jaws down hard onto the center cushion of the sofa.

"Snappy, wait! Don't retract—!"

It was too late. Snappy instinctively tried to pull the object toward Izuku. The spring inside Izuku’s arm violently contracted.

But the sofa, weighed down by hundreds of pounds of wet sand, was immensely heavier than the ninety-pound middle schooler. Physics took the wheel.

ZIIIP!

"WAH!" Izuku yelled as he was violently yanked forward off his feet. He flew through the air face-first, dragged by his own Quirk, and slammed headlong into the moldy sofa cushions. He slid off, landing face-down in the sand with a muffled groan.

Snappy released his bite, retracting back into Izuku’s wrist with a pathetic, apologetic chirp.

All Might, who was sitting on a nearby intact lawn chair in his skinny form, drinking from a water bottle, couldn't help but chuckle. "A valiant effort by your partner, young Midoriya, but remember your physics! The spring pulls toward the greater mass! If you don't brace your feet, you become the projectile!"

Izuku spit out a mouthful of sand and rolled onto his back, staring up at the clear blue sky. "I know, I know. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. I just... I don't have the mass to anchor him against the big stuff."

"Not yet," All Might corrected gently. "But you are growing. Look at your arms."

Izuku lifted his arms. It was subtle, but the change was there. The soft, boyish fat was beginning to melt away, revealing the faint, hard lines of developing muscle beneath his skin. His right forearm, in particular, where the cuff resided, was becoming noticeably thicker, the flesh hardening to protect the internal mechanics of his Quirk.

Suddenly, Izuku felt a strange vibration from his wrist. He looked down.

Snappy had extended his coil about two feet and was currently gnawing aggressively on the corner of a rusted microwave door. Scrrrrch... crunch... scrrrch.

"Hey! No snacking on the garbage!" Izuku scolded, pulling his arm back. Snappy let out a disgruntled clack, but released the microwave.

"He really does behave like an animal," All Might observed, leaning forward. "Does he draw sustenance from the trash?"

"No," Izuku sighed, wiping his forehead. "He shares my digestive system. When I eat, the caloric energy is converted into kinetic tension for his spring. But Dr. Tsubasa said he has an oral fixation. He needs to chew on hard things to 'sharpen' his plastic teeth and relieve tension. Usually, I give him high-density dog toys, but out here..." Izuku gestured to the endless sea of metal and hard plastics. "It's like an all-you-can-chew buffet for him."

"Just make sure he doesn't swallow a toaster," All Might joked, standing up and checking his watch. "Alright, break time is over! The sun is setting, and we still have that pile of washing machines to clear before dinner!"

Izuku groaned, pushing himself up from the sand. He rolled his shoulders, feeling the deep ache in his joints, and marched back toward the trash.

By the third month, summer had descended upon Musutafu with a vengeance. The beach turned into an absolute oven, the heat radiating off the metal garbage and cooking the air.

Izuku’s body was adapting. He was eating massive meals—six times a day—prepared by his perpetually worried but supportive mother. The calories were instantly burned off at the beach, fueling the rapid expansion of his muscle mass. He was getting taller, broader, and significantly stronger.

He could now haul a full-sized car tire in each hand, trudging through the sand with only mild difficulty. Snappy’s recoil, which used to send Izuku flying, was now something he could manage by dropping his center of gravity and bracing his legs.

But as Izuku grew stronger, the tasks became harder. All Might directed him toward the heavier sectors of the beach—the industrial waste.

It was late July. The humidity was suffocating. Izuku was standing in front of the final boss of Sector 4: a massive, double-door commercial refrigerator. It was covered in a thick layer of reddish-brown rust, half-buried beneath a pile of shattered concrete blocks.

Izuku had spent the last forty-five minutes clearing the concrete. Now, he just needed to move the fridge to the designated pickup zone near the street.

He pressed his hands against the rusted metal side, digging his boots into the sand, and pushed with every ounce of strength he had. He strained until his vision swam with black spots and the veins on his forehead felt like they were going to burst.

The refrigerator moved exactly half an inch.

"It's... it's too heavy," Izuku gasped, stumbling backward and falling onto his knees, chest heaving. "The compressor unit is still inside. It's solid iron and steel. It must weigh over eight hundred pounds."

All Might, sitting under a beach umbrella in his skeletal form, frowned. "Do you need a lever, my boy? We could find a steel pipe and try to pry it up."

"A lever won't help me drag it fifty yards up the beach," Izuku panted, wiping sweat from his eyes. He looked down at his right arm. "I have to use Snappy. I can use him as a winch. If I anchor myself behind that concrete pillar, I can fire Snappy at the fridge and pull it toward me inch by inch."

"Are you certain your shoulder can handle that kind of sustained tensile stress?" All Might asked, his tone laced with genuine concern. "Pulling eight hundred pounds of dead weight through sand will put immense strain on your rotator cuff."

"I have to try," Izuku said, his eyes burning with determination. "I can't let a refrigerator beat me."

Izuku walked over to a thick concrete pillar protruding from the sand about twenty feet away from the fridge. He sat down, bracing his boots against the base of the pillar to ensure he wouldn't be dragged forward. He locked his left hand over his right wrist, stabilizing the firing cuff.

"Alright, Snappy," Izuku took a deep breath, aligning his right arm perfectly with the top corner of the rusty refrigerator. "Target: Upper right hinge. Maximum bite force. Slow retraction on my mark."

Clack! Snappy acknowledged the command, the green light on Izuku’s wrist flaring brilliantly.

"Fire!"

SNIK-SNIK-SNIK-SNIK!

The silver coil erupted. Snappy’s bright green plastic head soared through the hot summer air, his jaws opening wide.

CLANG!

The impact was deafening. Snappy’s blunt plastic teeth smashed into the rusted iron hinge of the refrigerator, clamping down with several thousand pounds of pressure. The grip was absolute.

"Got it!" Izuku gritted his teeth. "Now, pull!"

Izuku engaged the retraction mechanism. The metallic slinky instantly went taut, humming like a plucked guitar string. Izuku felt the massive kinetic shockwave slam into his arm. He cried out, his muscles bulging as he fought to keep his shoulder in its socket.

Slowly, agonizingly, the refrigerator began to shift in the sand. It groaned, the rusted metal screeching against the grains.

But then, something strange happened.

Snappy didn't let go, but he let out a bizarre, high-pitched mechanical sound—like a blender grinding against ice.

Izuku felt a sudden, intense heat radiating from the cuff on his right wrist. It wasn't the heat of friction; it was an internal, biological heat. The neon green glow illuminating the cuff suddenly changed color, shifting to a deep, molten orange.

"Izuku? What's happening to your arm?" All Might called out, standing up from his chair.

Izuku couldn't answer. He was staring in absolute shock at the metallic coil. The orange glow was traveling down the silver slinky, moving from Izuku’s wrist all the way toward the anchor point like a pulse of electricity.

When the glowing pulse reached Snappy’s head, the world seemed to freeze.

The bright, glossy, cartoonish green plastic of the alligator's head began to warp. The sound of shifting matter—a gritty, heavy, metallic grinding noise—echoed across the beach.

The green color bled away, replaced by a dull, dark, reddish-brown hue. The smooth texture of the plastic blistered and hardened, developing flakes of rust and rough, jagged edges. The painted-on white eyes melted away, replaced by two hollow, terrifying optical slits that glowed with a faint, internal orange heat.

Snappy’s head was no longer plastic.

It was solid, rusted iron.

"What the...?" Izuku whispered.

Before Izuku could process the transformation, the physical reality of the change hit him.

The density of Snappy’s head had multiplied exponentially. A ten-pound plastic toy was now an eighty-pound block of solid iron.

The sudden, massive increase in weight at the end of the taut spring threw off the entire kinetic balance. Izuku’s arm was violently jerked downward by the sheer gravitational pull of the iron head.

"Whoa!" Izuku lost his brace against the pillar, stumbling forward.

Because Izuku had lost his anchor, the spring aggressively retracted. But because Snappy was now made of solid iron, his jaws had essentially fused with the refrigerator's hinge.

Instead of pulling the fridge, the iron jaw simply ripped the entire top corner of the refrigerator clean off.

SCREEECH-RIP!

"Incoming!" All Might roared.

The eighty-pound iron alligator head, still clutching a massive chunk of ripped steel in its jaws, was slingshotted back toward Izuku at terrifying speed.

Izuku hit the deck, burying his face in the sand just as the iron projectile whizzed inches over his head. It smashed into the concrete pillar behind him with the force of a wrecking ball. The concrete exploded into dust and shrapnel, a spiderweb of massive cracks radiating through the structure.

The iron head bounced off the shattered concrete and hit the sand with a heavy, earth-shaking THUD.

Silence descended upon the beach, save for the gentle lapping of the ocean waves.

Izuku slowly lifted his head, spitting sand from his lips. He crawled backward on his elbows, his eyes wide with disbelief, staring at the object lying in the sand.

It was still attached to his wrist by the silver coil. But it wasn't his bright green, plastic partner. It was a terrifying, oxidized iron monster, looking like a gargoyle torn off a gothic cathedral.

Slowly, the iron jaws opened. The chunk of torn refrigerator steel fell out.

Clank... clank...

The sound of Snappy snapping his jaws wasn't a cheerful plastic clack anymore. It sounded like two heavy anvils being slammed together.

All Might ran over, his skeletal face pale. "Young Midoriya! Are you alright?! Your shoulder...!"

"I'm fine," Izuku breathed, his analytical mind completely overriding his fear. He slowly stood up, walking toward the heavy iron head. He reached out with his left hand, hesitating for a moment, before gently touching the snout.

It was rough. It was cold. It tasted of oxidized metal.

It was real iron.

"How is this possible?" All Might whispered, staring at the iron head. "Your Quirk... it's a mutation. It manifests a specific, synthetic material. How did it change its atomic structure?"

Izuku’s eyes were darting back and forth, his mind racing at a million miles an hour. The muttering started—a low, rapid-fire stream of consciousness that always preceded his breakthroughs.

"Quirks are physical traits subject to evolutionary stress. Dr. Tsubasa said Snappy was a condensed form of keratin and calcium mimicking plastic. But what if the mimicry wasn't superficial? What if the cellular matrix of the Quirk factor is hyper-adaptable? When Snappy bites down on a material, his jaw exerts immense pressure. Maybe... maybe under extreme stress, his cells sample the atomic structure of whatever he's biting and temporarily overwrite his own genetic code to match the density and composition of the target to prevent his teeth from breaking!"

Izuku looked up at All Might, his green eyes blazing with the fire of discovery.

"It's Material Mimicry, All Might! Snappy doesn't just bite things. He absorbs their properties!"

As if on cue, the faint orange glow in Snappy’s optical slits began to fade. The dark, rusted iron slowly lightened, softening back into its bright green, glossy plastic form. The painted white eyes reappeared. The eighty-pound weight vanished, returning to its manageable ten pounds.

Snappy shook his head like a wet dog, a cheerful clack-clack echoing from his plastic jaws, seemingly entirely unfazed by the fact that he had just turned into heavy artillery.

All Might stared at the toy, then at Izuku, a massive grin slowly spreading across his skeletal face.

"Material Mimicry," All Might repeated, the sheer tactical implications washing over him. "Midoriya, my boy... do you realize what this means?"

Izuku looked at the shattered concrete pillar, then at the torn refrigerator. A slow, awe-struck smile crept onto his face.

"It means," Izuku whispered, "I don't just have a grappling hook anymore."

The discovery of Material Mimicry completely changed the trajectory of Izuku’s training. The beach cleanup was no longer just a physical grind; it became a laboratory for testing the limits of this incredible new ability.

For the next week, the beach echoed with the sounds of scientific destruction.

"Alright, Test Number Fourteen: Vulcanized Rubber," Izuku announced, standing before a massive pile of discarded tractor tires.

He aimed his wrist. SNIK! Snappy shot forward, biting deeply into the thick black rubber of the tire.

Izuku focused on the connection, deliberately trying to trigger the stress-response. He felt the shift—a warm, pulsing sensation running up the coil. Snappy’s bright green color mutated, shifting into a dull, matte black. The rigid, geometric scales smoothed out, becoming pliable and dense.

Izuku retracted the spring. The black, rubberized Snappy zipped back toward him. Izuku sidestepped, letting the head hit the sand.

Instead of a heavy thud, Snappy hit the ground and bounced, launching thirty feet into the air before ricocheting off a rusted car hood.

"Incredible!" All Might cheered from his lawn chair, rapidly scribbling notes on a clipboard. "The blunt-force trauma is minimized, but the kinetic ricochet allows for unpredictable, multi-directional attacks! Imagine firing him in an enclosed hallway!"

"Test Number Fifteen: Silica Glass," Izuku called out, moving toward a pile of shattered television screens and window panes.

SNIK! CHOMP!

The shift happened again. This time, Snappy turned completely translucent. The head became a faceted, crystalline structure, gleaming beautifully in the sunlight. The blunt teeth sharpened into jagged, razor-sharp shards of solid glass.

Izuku fired the glass Snappy at a piece of driftwood. The glass teeth sliced completely through the wood like a hot knife through butter.

"Lethal cutting power," Izuku noted, his eyes wide. "But..."

He fired the glass Snappy at a steel beam. CRASH! The glass teeth shattered upon impact, exploding into thousands of glittering fragments.

Izuku instantly grabbed his right arm, dropping to his knees with a sharp gasp of pain. "Agh!"

"Midoriya!" All Might rushed over.

"I'm okay," Izuku gritted his teeth, holding his glowing wrist. Snappy retracted, the head looking deformed and broken, missing half its jaw. But slowly, over the course of two agonizing minutes, the green plastic regenerated, restoring Snappy to his original form.

"Sympathetic pain feedback," Izuku panted, wiping sweat from his brow. "Whatever material he mimics, he inherits its weaknesses, too. Glass is sharp, but brittle. If he breaks, I feel the shock in my nervous system, and it takes time to regenerate. I have to be careful with fragile materials."

They tested everything. Wood made Snappy buoyant, allowing him to float perfectly in the ocean water. Concrete made him incredibly dense and blunt, perfect for smashing through barriers. Aluminum made him feather-light, increasing the speed of the spring's extension to near-supersonic levels.

But the most useful material on the beach, by far, was steel.

By the fifth month, autumn had arrived, bringing a cool, biting breeze to the coastline. Izuku’s physique had transformed completely. He was no longer a skinny, trembling boy. He possessed the physique of a trained gymnast—lean, hyper-defined muscle packed densely over a solid frame.

His right arm, however, was a marvel of biological engineering. To house the massive kinetic energy generated by the steel-mimicry recoil, Izuku’s right shoulder, bicep, and forearm had bulked up significantly, wrapped in thick, striated muscle. All Might had provided Izuku with a custom-made, heavy-duty black compression sleeve that covered his right arm from the shoulder to the wrist, helping to stabilize the joints during extreme tension.

Izuku had become a one-man industrial demolition crew.

"Compactor Protocol!" Izuku shouted, standing in front of a rusted-out sedan.

He launched Snappy, aiming for the solid steel frame of the car. CLANG! Snappy bit the frame, instantly absorbing the metallic properties. The green plastic morphed into pristine, shining steel. The weight increased dramatically, becoming a hundred-pound anvil at the end of the coil.

Instead of retracting, Izuku ran forward, grabbing the metallic coil with both hands like a rope. He spun his body, using his immense core strength to swing the hundred-pound steel alligator head in a massive, sweeping arc.

SMASH!

The steel head slammed into the side of the car like a medieval flail, completely caving in the doors. Izuku kept spinning, using the momentum, smashing the roof, the hood, the trunk. Within a minute, the sedan was a crumpled cube of twisted metal.

Izuku released the tension, letting Snappy revert to plastic. He walked over to the cubed car, bent his knees, dug his hands into the metal, and hoisted the entire car-cube over his head with a primal grunt. He carried it over to the designated pile, tossing it down with an earth-shaking crash.

All Might watched from atop a nearby pile of clean sand, wiping a tear of pride from his hollow eye. The boy was incredible. He wasn't just relying on raw power; he was combining a brilliant, analytical mind with terrifying physical conditioning. He had turned a "joke" Quirk into an entire utility belt of powers.

"You're doing it, my boy," All Might whispered to the wind. "You are truly forging your own legend."

The months bled together in a grueling symphony of sweat, steel, and clacking jaws.

Winter turned the beach into a freezing wasteland. The biting wind off the ocean felt like knives against Izuku's skin, but he didn't stop. He trained shirtless, his body radiating steam, his muscles burning like a furnace.

Snappy had grown, too. As Izuku’s body matured and his caloric intake skyrocketed, the Quirk evolved. Snappy’s plastic head was larger now, roughly the size of a cinderblock. The metallic coil was thicker, resembling the suspension spring of a heavy-duty truck. Snappy's personality had also matured; he was less easily distracted by random garbage and far more attuned to Izuku's combat mindset, functioning like a highly trained attack dog.

As they moved into the final two months, Izuku developed complex combination moves. He learned how to seamlessly transition between Material Mimicry states in mid-air.

He would launch Snappy at a piece of aluminum to gain incredible speed, drop the bite mid-flight, snatch a piece of concrete to gain mass, and strike a target with the force of a meteor. He mapped out his own fighting style, dubbing it "Yo-Yo Combat." It was a fluid, highly mobile martial art that utilized Snappy not just as a weapon, but as a fulcrum for acrobatic evasion and counter-attacks.

The U.A. Entrance Exam was fast approaching. The deadline was looming.

On the night before the exam, Izuku didn't sleep. He couldn't.

He was down on the beach, illuminated only by the pale light of the full moon and the distant glow of the city streetlamps.

There was only one pile of trash left. It was a massive mound of tangled, rusted steel cables, broken machinery, and a hulking, half-destroyed industrial generator that must have weighed two tons.

Izuku stood before it, his breath pluming in the freezing air. He wore his black sweatpants and heavy boots, his torso bare, his skin slick with sweat. His right arm was wrapped in the black compression sleeve, the green cuff at his wrist glowing softly in the dark.

"This is it, Snappy," Izuku murmured, his voice raspy from exhaustion. "The final boss."

Clack. Snappy popped out of the sleeve, looking up at the massive generator.

"We can't lift it. And pulling it piece by piece will take until sunrise. We have to do it all at once."

Izuku took ten steps back. He raised his right arm, pointing it dead center at the massive iron chassis of the generator.

"Target: Main Chassis. Material Mimicry: Steel. Maximum tension."

SNIK!

Snappy shot forward, biting deep into the thick iron of the generator. The green plastic instantly darkened, hardening into cold, heavy steel.

Izuku didn't pull back. Instead, he ran forward. He sprinted directly at the generator, jumping onto the tangled pile of steel cables. He used the slack in the silver coil to wrap the thick, metallic slinky completely around the generator and the surrounding pile of trash, creating a massive, chaotic spiderweb of metal binding the entire pile together.

Once the pile was bound tightly by the coil, Izuku leaped off the pile, landing twenty feet away in the cleared sand.

He locked his boots into the earth. He grabbed the remaining length of the coil near his wrist with his left hand.

"Maximum Retraction!" Izuku roared.

The internal mechanism in his arm engaged. The coil, wrapped completely around the two-ton pile of junk, violently constricted.

The sound of screeching, tearing metal split the night air. The sheer kinetic force of the contracting spring acted like a massive industrial garbage compactor. The steel cables snapped. The machinery shattered. The massive iron chassis of the generator groaned, buckled, and imploded under the immense pressure of the steel-mimicking coil.

Izuku screamed, throwing his entire body weight backward, channeling every ounce of strength he had built over the last ten months into his legs and back. His muscles rippled, the veins standing out in sharp relief.

CRUNCH!

The entire pile of trash collapsed in on itself, compressed into a single, dense, jagged sphere of rusted metal, bound tightly by the silver coil.

"Now... LIFT!"

Izuku spun around, acting as a human crane. Using the momentum and his raw, monstrous strength, he swung the massive, compressed sphere of metal off the ground. He dragged it through the air in a wide arc, his boots carving deep trenches in the sand, and hurled it toward the concrete loading dock where the municipal garbage trucks picked up the refuse.

The massive sphere slammed onto the concrete with a thunderous crash, shattering into a neat, manageable pile of debris.

Izuku let go of the tension. Snappy reverted to plastic, releasing his bite, and the coil zipped rapidly back into Izuku’s wrist with a sharp snik.

Izuku collapsed onto his knees in the sand. His chest heaved like a bellows. His arms hung limply at his sides, completely numb. He stared at the concrete dock.

He slowly turned his head, looking up and down the coastline.

There was nothing.

No rusted cars. No broken televisions. No rotting sofas.

Just miles and miles of pristine, untouched white sand, glowing pale silver beneath the moonlight. The sound of the ocean waves crashing against the shore echoed clearly, unimpeded by the labyrinth of garbage that had plagued the beach for years.

He had done it.

He had actually done it.

Tears welled up in Izuku’s green eyes, spilling over his freckled cheeks. He threw his head back, staring up at the moon, and let out a long, primal scream of absolute, unadulterated victory.

The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant shades of pink and gold, when Toshinori Yagi arrived at Dagobah Beach.

He walked down the concrete stairs in his skeletal form, a thermos of hot coffee in his hand. He was expecting to find Izuku asleep in the sand, perhaps with a small pile of trash remaining. He was prepared to tell the boy that he had done enough, that the exam was today, and that he needed to rest.

But as All Might stepped onto the sand, his jaw dropped, causing him to fumble and nearly drop his thermos.

The beach was immaculate. It looked like a luxury resort coastline. Not a single piece of debris remained.

And standing atop the concrete retaining wall, silhouetted against the rising sun, was Izuku Midoriya.

He wasn't a scrawny, trembling kid anymore. He stood tall, his chest broad, his shoulders thick with dense, hardened muscle. The wind whipped his dark green hair around a face that was set with a quiet, intense determination. His right arm, wrapped in the black compression sleeve, looked like a loaded weapon.

All Might felt a profound, overwhelming wave of emotion crash over him. It wasn't just pride. It was awe.

This boy had no explosive power. He had no elemental manipulation. He had a Quirk that looked like a joke. Yet, through sheer, unbreakable willpower, he had transformed his body and his power into something terrifyingly formidable.

All Might suddenly expanded, a cloud of steam accompanying his transformation into his muscular form.

"EXCELLENT WORK, YOUNG MIDORIYA!" All Might boomed, his voice echoing across the pristine beach.

Izuku turned around, a massive, radiant smile breaking across his face. He hopped down from the wall, landing lightly in the sand, and jogged over to his mentor.

"I did it, All Might," Izuku beamed, wiping a smudge of dirt from his cheek. "I cleared the whole zone. Even the stuff buried under the tide line."

All Might looked down at the boy. He reached out and placed a massive hand on Izuku's shoulder, giving it a firm, respectful squeeze.

"You did more than clean a beach, Izuku," All Might said, his voice lowering to a tone of absolute sincerity. "You built a foundation. You looked at the hand life dealt you, and you refused to fold. You are a vessel of incredible strength. Not because of a Quirk passed down to you, but because of the work you put in right here."

Izuku’s eyes shone. He looked down at his right arm. Snappy poked his head out of the sleeve, the bright green plastic gleaming in the morning light. Snappy let out a soft, proud clack-clack, nuzzling against Izuku’s left hand.

"We're ready," Izuku said quietly, looking back up at the Number One Hero.

All Might grinned, the morning sun reflecting off his teeth. "Yes, you are. Go home. Eat a massive breakfast. Take a hot shower. And then..."

All Might pointed a massive finger toward the city, in the direction of the prestigious academy that awaited.

"Show U.A. High School what a hero truly looks like!"

Izuku nodded, his jaw set. He grabbed his yellow backpack from the stairs, slung it over his broad shoulders, and began the walk home.

The training was over. The spring was fully wound.

It was time to unleash the snap.
