What If Deku Had a Lightsaber Quirk That's Unstoppable
The hum began as a vibration in the marrow of
his bones.
Izuku Midoriya was exactly four years, two
months, and seventeen days old when he learned that the world was not a soft
place. It was a warm Tuesday afternoon, the kind of day painted in the golden
hues of late spring, and the neighborhood playground was alive with the chaotic
symphony of children.
Katsuki Bakugo was, as usual, the center of
attention. He stood atop the wooden jungle gym, a triumphant grin plastered
across his face as small, crackling pops of caramel-scented explosions erupted
from his palms. The other children watched in awe, their eyes reflecting the
miniature fireworks. Izuku stood among them, clutching his prized,
limited-edition Silver Age All Might action figure to his chest, his large
green eyes wide with admiration.
"That's so cool, Kacchan!" Izuku
cheered, bouncing on the heels of his red sneakers. "Your quirk is
amazing! You're gonna be the best hero ever!"
Katsuki puffed out his chest. "Obviously,
Deku! I’ve got the strongest quirk in the world. What about you? Still a
quirkless loser?"
Izuku flushed, looking down at his sneakers.
"Mom says it’ll come any day now. I can feel a tingle in my toes
sometimes."
"A tingle?" Katsuki sneered, hopping
down from the jungle gym. "Probably just a bug bite. You’re never gonna
get one, Deku."
Izuku squeezed his action figure tighter. A
sudden, strange sensation washed over him. It wasn't a tingle in his toes. It
was a profound, suffocating heat building in the center of his chest, rushing
down his arms like a river of boiling water. It pooled in his palms, a
localized pressure that felt like holding a trapped, furious star.
It hurts, Izuku thought, his breath hitching.
It hurts, it hurts, it hurts.
He dropped to his knees in the sandbox. He
pressed his hands against the coarse grains of sand, trying to cool them down,
but the heat only escalated. The air around him began to warp and shimmer, like
the horizon on a blistering summer day. A smell permeated the playground—sharp,
metallic, like a lightning strike. Ozone.
"Hey, Deku, what's wrong with you?"
Katsuki asked, taking a step back as the ambient temperature around Izuku
spiked drastically.
Izuku opened his mouth to speak, to call for
his mother who was chatting on a nearby bench, but instead of words, a sound
tore through the air.
Vwummmmm.
It was a deep, oscillating hum, a sound so
rich and resonant it rattled the teeth of everyone on the playground.
Izuku pulled his hands from the sand. From the
center of his right palm, a beam of blinding, neon-green light erupted. It
didn't flicker like a flame or scatter like a laser. It shot outward exactly
three feet, solidifying into a perfectly straight, brilliantly luminescent
column of pure, contained energy. The hum deepened, whining with terrifying
power.
The heat was instantaneous and oppressive. The
children screamed, scrambling backward. Katsuki tripped over his own feet, his
crimson eyes wide with a terror Izuku had never seen before.
Izuku stared at the beam of light protruding
from his hand. It was beautiful. It looked like a glowing emerald crystal,
trapped in a state of violent, furious vibration. But the heat—it was
unbearable. Panicking, he tried to wave it away, to shake the light off his
hand as if it were a sticky cobweb.
He swung his arm.
The glowing green beam passed through his left
hand, which was still instinctively clutching the All Might action figure.
There was no resistance. No sound of breaking
plastic. The green blade passed through the toy, and through the air, before
Izuku finally managed to clamp down on the feeling in his chest, shutting off
the energy. The blade vanished with a sharp hiss.
Silence descended on the playground.
Izuku sat perfectly still, hyperventilating.
He looked down at his lap. The Silver Age All Might action figure—made of
dense, high-impact polycarbonate plastic—slid apart. It had been bisected with
molecular perfection, sliced diagonally from the right shoulder down to the
left hip. The edges of the cut were glowing cherry-red, the plastic bubbling
and melting into deformed slag.
Trembling, Izuku looked at the sandbox beneath
him. Where he had swung his arm, a deep, smoking trench had been carved into
the earth. The sand along the edges of the cut hadn't just been pushed aside;
it had been instantly superheated into a smooth, glowing trench of molten
glass.
"Deku..." Katsuki whispered, his
voice devoid of its usual bravado. He was staring at the molten glass, then at
Izuku's hands. For the first time in his life, Katsuki Bakugo looked genuinely
intimidated.
Inko Midoriya broke through the crowd,
dropping her purse, her face pale. She fell to her knees, grabbing Izuku by the
shoulders. "Izuku! Baby, are you okay? What happened? Are you hurt?"
Izuku looked up at his mother, tears welling
in his massive eyes. He held up his hands. They were unburned, untouched, but
they felt like weapons of mass destruction.
"Mommy," he sobbed, his voice
breaking. "I... I broke All Might."
The clinic of Dr. Tsubasa was cold, smelling
sharply of antiseptic and stale coffee. Izuku sat on the crinkling paper of the
examination table, his hands resting limply in his lap. He was staring at his
palms.
Dr. Tsubasa, a bald man with thick, round
goggles, adjusted his glasses as he read over the preliminary quirk diagnostic
reports. The machinery hummed softly in the background. Inko sat beside Izuku,
her hands wringing the fabric of her skirt, her face tight with anxiety.
"Well, Mrs. Midoriya," Dr. Tsubasa
finally spoke, his voice grave. "It is certainly a manifestation. And a
highly unusual one at that. Neither you nor your husband possess an emitter
quirk of this nature. Telekinesis and fire-breath... it seems the genetic
combination has mutated significantly."
"What is it, Doctor?" Inko asked,
her voice trembling slightly. "Is he okay? He was generating so much heat,
but he isn't burned."
"His body has adapted a natural, passive
resistance to extreme temperatures to compensate for the quirk's output,"
Dr. Tsubasa explained, tapping the glowing x-rays on his tablet. "I've
tentatively registered the quirk as 'Plasma Saber'."
"Plasma?" Inko echoed.
"Yes. Your son does not produce fire. He
produces plasma—the fourth state of matter. By superheating ionized gas within
his body, he emits it from the sweat glands in his palms, wrists, and
fingertips. But what makes this quirk extraordinary—and, frankly, incredibly
dangerous—is that he subconsciously generates a powerful electromagnetic
containment field around the plasma."
The doctor turned the tablet around, showing a
crude 3D rendering of Izuku's hand emitting the blade.
"Without the magnetic field, the plasma
would just erupt like a localized solar flare, burning everything in a
twenty-foot radius. But the field shapes the plasma into a hyper-concentrated,
elongated beam. A blade, essentially."
Dr. Tsubasa leaned forward, his expression
dead serious. He looked directly at the four-year-old boy.
"Izuku, do you understand what happens
when something touches that blade?"
Izuku shook his head slowly, his green eyes
wide and frightened.
"Because the plasma is contained in such
a tight space, the heat and kinetic energy are absolute," the doctor
explained quietly. "It doesn't burn like fire. It severs at a molecular
level. Wood, stone, steel, titanium, concrete... and flesh. If you touch
something with that light, it will not just cut it; it will vaporize the matter
it comes into contact with instantly. It is, by all laws of physics I can
measure today, an unstoppable cutting force."
Inko gasped, clapping a hand over her mouth.
"Oh my god."
"Mrs. Midoriya," the doctor said,
his tone sympathetic but firm. "Many children develop quirks that are
dangerous. Explosions, acid, electrification. But this... this is a lethal
weapon. It has zero blunt-force applications. If he loses control in a crowd,
if he swings his arm during a tantrum..." The doctor didn't need to finish
the sentence. The image of the bisected All Might toy flashed in Izuku's mind.
"We need to fit him for quirk-suppressing
inhibitor gloves immediately," Dr. Tsubasa concluded. "And I highly
recommend psychological counseling. He needs to understand the absolute
necessity of restraint. Because if he makes a mistake with this quirk, there
will be no fixing it."
That night, Izuku lay in his bed, staring at
the ceiling. His hands were encased in thick, bulky, carbon-fiber reinforced
gloves. They were heavy. They were a constant, physical reminder of the monster
lurking beneath his skin.
He turned his head to look at his desk.
Sitting there, carefully taped together with clear adhesive, was the Silver Age
All Might. But the tape couldn't hide the melted, warped plastic where the toy
had been cleaved in two.
Izuku curled into a ball, burying his gloved
hands against his chest, and cried himself to sleep. He didn't want a villain's
quirk. He just wanted to save people with a smile.
How could he smile, when his hands were made
only for killing?
Ten years is a long time to live in fear of
your own body.
Fourteen-year-old Izuku Midoriya walked down
the sterile hallways of Aldera Junior High, his head bowed, his shoulders
hunched, trying to make himself as small as physically possible.
He was an anomaly at his school. In a society
where quirks were celebrated, flaunted, and casually used in the hallways,
Izuku kept his hidden behind thick, custom-made leather gloves lined with a
specialized asbestos-substitute and thermal mesh. He never took them off. Not
during gym class, not during lunch, not even to write his exams.
He was known as the 'Executioner.'
Kids didn't bully him in the traditional
sense. Nobody tripped him in the halls. Nobody stole his lunch money. They were
simply terrified of him. The rumors of what his quirk could do had mutated over
the years, but the core truth remained: Midoriya Izuku could cut through
anything, and if you made him mad, he might just cut you.
The social isolation was suffocating, but the
worst part of it all was Katsuki Bakugo.
"Hey. Freak."
Izuku froze, his hand resting on the handle of
the classroom door. He turned slowly. Katsuki stood at the end of the hallway,
flanked by his two usual cronies, though they hung back, looking nervous.
Katsuki’s hands were stuffed in his pockets, his red eyes glaring daggers at
Izuku.
Over the years, Katsuki’s superiority complex
had morphed into a toxic, obsessive rivalry. Katsuki knew he had a powerful,
flashy quirk perfectly suited for heroism. But he also knew, deep down in the
dark corners of his pride, that Izuku’s quirk was objectively more lethal.
Katsuki’s explosions could concuss, burn, and break. Izuku’s quirk could
amputate limbs with a flick of the wrist.
This unspoken reality drove Katsuki insane. He
compensated by being louder, meaner, and more aggressive, constantly trying to
prove that his flashy power was superior to Izuku's silent, contained
devastation.
"Kacchan," Izuku said softly, his
voice muffled by the collar of his uniform.
"I saw your career aptitude form on the
teacher's desk, Deku," Katsuki snarled, stalking forward until he was
inches from Izuku’s face. He didn't grab Izuku by the collar—nobody touched
Izuku if they could help it. "U.A. High School. The hero course."
Izuku swallowed hard. "I... I want to be
a hero, Kacchan. Just like All Might."
"You?" Katsuki scoffed, a harsh,
barking laugh escaping his lips. "Don't make me vomit. A hero saves
people. You? You're a walking guillotine. What are you gonna do when a purse
snatcher runs away? Huh? Cut his legs off? Slice him in half?"
Izuku flinched, instinctively gripping his
right wrist with his left gloved hand. "I... I can figure it out. I can
find a way to use it non-lethally. I've been studying—"
"Studying doesn't change physics, you
idiot!" Katsuki yelled, tiny explosions popping in his palms, betraying
his agitation. "You can't arrest a villain if they're in pieces! You're a
hazard, Deku! A villain quirk like yours doesn't belong at U.A. It belongs in a
maximum-security vault. If you go to U.A., you're just gonna end up killing
someone and ruining the reputation of the school before I even get to be the
Number One hero!"
"I would never hurt anyone!" Izuku
protested, his voice cracking, tears pricking the corners of his eyes.
"You know I wouldn't, Kacchan! I've worn these gloves every day for ten
years! I haven't ignited the blade since we were four!"
"Yeah? And what happens when a villain
knocks those gloves off?" Katsuki sneered, leaning in close. "You're
a coward, Deku. You're so scared of your own shadow you don't even know how to
use your power. Stay out of my way. If you apply to U.A., I'll make sure you
regret it."
Katsuki shoved past him, his shoulder
aggressively bumping Izuku's, before storming down the hall.
Izuku stood there for a long time, the silence
of the empty hallway ringing in his ears. He looked down at his gloved hands.
Katsuki was right. He was a coward. He had spent ten years reading about
heroes, analyzing their quirks in his notebooks, studying their combat styles,
their rescue maneuvers, their public relations. He knew everything there was to
know about heroism.
But he didn't know the first thing about his
own quirk. He had locked it away in the dark, treating it like a disease rather
than a gift. How could he possibly pass the U.A. entrance exam if he was too
terrified to even ignite his blade?
With a heavy heart, Izuku pushed open the
classroom door, the weight of his impossible dream crushing down on his
shoulders.
The afternoon sun was beginning to dip below
the horizon, casting long, melancholy shadows across the streets of Musutafu.
Izuku took the long way home, walking through the quieter residential districts
to avoid the bustling crowds. He had his head down, his nose buried in his
"Hero Analysis for the Future, Vol. 13" notebook. He was sketching a
diagram of Mount Lady's center of gravity, trying to distract himself from the
gnawing anxiety in his gut.
He entered a dimly lit underpass beneath the
elevated train tracks. The air here was cool and smelled of damp concrete and
old rain. It was quiet, save for the rhythmic clacking of his sneakers against
the pavement.
Clack. Clack. Clack.
Squish.
Izuku stopped. He frowned, lowering his
notebook. He looked behind him. The sound hadn't come from his shoes.
From a manhole cover a few yards away, a
thick, putrid sludge was bubbling up. It smelled like raw sewage and rotting
garbage. Before Izuku could process what he was looking at, the sludge erupted
upward, forming a towering, gelatinous mass with two massive, bulbous eyes and
a jagged, manic grin.
"A medium-sized meat suit," the
Sludge Villain gurgled, his voice sounding like it was bubbling through mud.
"Perfect. You'll do nicely, kid. Just hold still. It'll only hurt for
about forty-five seconds, and then... you'll be me."
Izuku's flight response kicked in instantly.
He dropped his notebook and turned to run, but he wasn't fast enough. A massive
tendril of foul-smelling sludge whipped forward, wrapping around his waist and
violently yanking him backward.
Izuku slammed into the villain's gelatinous
body. It was freezing cold and suffocatingly thick. Before he could scream,
more sludge forced its way into his mouth and up his nose.
He was drowning. Panic, primal and blinding,
seized him. His hands clawed wildly at the sludge covering his face, his thick
inhibitor gloves slipping uselessly against the slime. His lungs burned,
screaming for oxygen. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't see. He was going to die
here, in the dark, and nobody would even know.
No, Izuku thought, his vision beginning to
edge with black. No, I can't die! I have to be a hero! Mom... All Might...
Desperation overrode a decade of conditioned
fear. If he didn't use it now, he was dead.
Izuku brought his right hand up to his mouth.
With his teeth, he bit down on the thick strap of his inhibitor glove and
violently yanked his head back. The glove tore off, falling into the sludge.
His bare right hand was exposed to the cool
air of the underpass.
He didn't ignite his palm. That would generate
a massive three-foot blade that could wildly slice through the bridge supports
and bring the train tracks down on both of them. He needed precision. He needed
control.
Izuku focused all of the terror, all of the
adrenaline, and all of the agonizing heat in his chest into the tip of his
right index finger.
Vwum.
It wasn't a roar. It was a high-pitched,
incredibly sharp whine. From the tip of his finger, a tiny, brilliantly glowing
green beam shot out, exactly three inches long. It looked like a scalpel made
of condensed starlight.
The immediate area around his finger flashed
with intense, dry heat. The sludge touching the base of his finger instantly
vaporized into foul-smelling steam with a loud hiss.
Through the blur of the slime, Izuku saw the
villain's massive, bulbous eye just inches from his face.
With a frantic, desperate motion, Izuku
slashed his finger-blade across the surface of the villain's eye.
The plasma didn't just cut the eye; the
intense heat boiled the moisture within it instantly. The Sludge Villain
unleashed a shriek of ungodly, unimaginable agony, the sound echoing painfully
off the concrete walls of the tunnel.
"MY EYE! MY FUCKING EYE! IT BURNS!"
The villain's concentration broke. The sludge
wrapping around Izuku lost its grip, thrashing wildly in pain. Izuku fell to
the concrete, coughing violently, expelling vile liquid from his lungs. He
gasped for air, his chest heaving.
He looked at his right hand. The three-inch
blade of plasma was still humming at the tip of his finger, casting a sickly
green pallor over the dark tunnel. The villain was writhing against the far
wall, clutching his eye, part of his body literally boiling from the residual
heat of the near-miss strike.
Izuku didn't hesitate. He willed the quirk
off—the blade vanishing instantly—grabbed his discarded glove and his notebook,
and ran. He ran as fast as his trembling legs could carry him, sprinting out of
the underpass and into the blinding light of the afternoon sun, not stopping
until his lungs were burning for an entirely different reason.
He collapsed against a brick wall in an
alleyway blocks away, sliding down to the pavement. He looked at his bare hand,
shaking uncontrollably.
He had done it. He had used it. And he had
hurt someone.
The villain's agonizing scream looped in his
head. My eye! It burns!
Tears streamed down Izuku's face. He quickly
shoved his hand back into the inhibitor glove, fastening the strap tight. He
curled his knees to his chest, burying his face in his arms.
"I'm a monster," he whispered to the
empty alleyway. "I'm a monster."
An hour passed before Izuku found the courage
to stand up and continue his walk home. He felt hollow, physically sick from
the adrenaline crash and the guilt of using his quirk violently, even in
self-defense.
As he walked toward the Tattoo Alley shopping
district, the smell of smoke caught his attention. He heard the distinct,
chaotic sounds of a crowd murmuring, sirens wailing, and the heavy, rhythmic
thud of explosions.
Explosions?
Izuku's head snapped up. That specific sound,
that precise tempo of concussive force—he had heard it every day for ten years.
He broke into a run, following the smoke. He
pushed his way through a massive crowd of onlookers gathered at the edge of the
shopping district. The scene before him was absolute chaos. Several storefronts
were ablaze, black smoke billowing into the sky. The heat was intense, but it
felt trivial compared to the heat that lived inside Izuku.
In the center of the street, surrounded by
roaring flames, was the Sludge Villain.
He had grown massive, easily three times the
size he was in the underpass. And trapped within his gelatinous, shifting body,
struggling furiously and setting off rapid-fire explosions that only fueled the
fires around them, was Katsuki Bakugo.
Izuku froze. His breath hitched in his throat.
He survived, Izuku thought, a cold dread
washing over him. I didn't stop him. I just made him angry, and he ran into
Kacchan.
The Pro Heroes were already on the scene.
Death Arms, a hero with immense physical strength, tried to charge in, but the
villain whipped a sludge tendril at him. Death Arms caught it, but his hands
sank uselessly into the slime. Mount Lady was trapped at the edge of the
street, unable to navigate the narrow avenue without crushing civilians. Kamui
Woods was attempting to use his wooden branches to pull Bakugo out, but the
fires and Bakugo's own explosions kept burning his wood to ash.
"It's no good!" Death Arms shouted,
coughing on the smoke. "There's no solid mass to grab onto! We can't get a
grip!"
"My wood will just catch fire!"
Kamui Woods yelled in frustration. "We have to wait for someone with a
suitable quirk! Where is Backdraft?!"
Izuku stared in horror. They're waiting? he
thought, his mind racing. They're just going to wait? Kacchan is suffocating!
He's dying right now!
The Sludge Villain laughed, a wet, gargling
sound. His right eye was closed, a nasty, cauterized burn mark slashing across
it—Izuku's handiwork. "You heroes are pathetic! Once I take this kid's
explosive quirk, I'll level this whole block!"
Through the swirling smoke and the shifting
slime, Izuku caught sight of Katsuki's face. The explosions were slowing down.
Katsuki's eyes, usually so full of arrogant fire, were wide, bloodshot, and
filled with a desperate, pleading terror. He looked exactly the way Izuku had
felt in the underpass. He looked like he was begging for help.
Before his brain could process the danger,
before the decade of fear and conditioning could stop him, Izuku's legs moved.
He bolted out of the crowd, ducking under the
police tape.
"Hey! Kid! Stop! Are you crazy?!"
Death Arms roared, reaching for him, but Izuku was already sprinting into the
inferno.
Time seemed to slow down. The roar of the
flames, the shouts of the heroes, the screams of the crowd—it all faded into a
muffled hum. The only sound that mattered was the rushing of blood in Izuku's
ears.
I can't punch him, Izuku thought, his mind
entering a state of hyper-analytical clarity. I can't pull Kacchan out. The
sludge is too thick. If I pull, I'll tear Kacchan's joints. If I blast it, I'll
hit Kacchan.
He reached down to his hands as he ran. With a
practiced, frantic motion, he ripped off the left inhibitor glove, throwing it
to the ground. Then, he tore off the right glove.
His bare hands were exposed.
He was ten yards away from the villain. Five
yards.
The sludge is liquid mass. It relies on
cohesion. I don't need to fight it. I just need to remove it.
"YOU!" The Sludge Villain roared,
his remaining eye widening as he recognized the messy green hair and the boy
who had scarred him. "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!"
A massive, tree-trunk-sized tendril of sludge
whipped forward, aiming to crush Izuku flat against the pavement.
Izuku didn't flinch. He didn't close his eyes.
He opened his palms, facing the incoming
strike, and unleashed the dam.
VWUMMMMM-KRAK!
The sound was deafening, a bass-heavy roar of
tearing atmosphere that drowned out the surrounding fires. From the center of
Izuku's palms, two massive, three-foot-long blades of brilliantly blinding
emerald plasma erupted into existence. The air around him instantly distorted,
a shockwave of localized extreme heat blasting outward, blowing the smoke away
in a perfect circle.
The crowd gasped. The Pro Heroes shielded their
eyes from the agonizingly bright light.
The sludge tendril slammed into the crossed
plasma blades.
It didn't push Izuku back. There was no
physical impact. The moment the liquid sludge made contact with the containment
field of the plasma, which was burning at tens of thousands of degrees, it
didn't just cut—it flash-vaporized.
A massive explosion of foul, grey steam
erupted as the entire tendril was instantly boiled away into nothingness.
The villain shrieked, recoiling as a chunk of
his mass evaporated. "WHAT IS THAT?! WHAT ARE YOU?!"
Izuku didn't answer. He was in the zone. His
face was set in a mask of absolute, terrifying concentration. The glowing green
light cast harsh, dramatic shadows across his freckled face, reflecting in his
determined eyes.
He sprinted through the steam, closing the
distance to the main body of the villain.
Surgical precision, Izuku chanted in his head.
Do not miss by a millimeter. Do not touch Kacchan.
He leaped into the air, using the thermal
updraft generated by his blades to boost his jump higher than a normal human
could manage. He soared over the villain's main bulk.
Below him, Katsuki was encased in the sludge,
only his face and right arm visible.
Izuku inverted his body in mid-air. He held
his arms out, the twin plasma blades humming with a furious, vibrating power.
He didn't slash wildly. He moved with the calculated, terrifying grace of a
master swordsman.
He brought the left blade down, slicing
perfectly vertically through the sludge, exactly two inches to the left of
Katsuki's shoulder.
Hiss!
The sludge parted instantly, the edges
cauterizing into hard, brittle ash.
He brought the right blade down, slicing
vertically two inches to the right of Katsuki.
Hiss!
He landed softly on his feet directly in front
of the villain. With a rapid, fluid motion, he crossed his arms, dragging both
blades horizontally across the bottom of the sludge, just inches beneath
Katsuki's feet.
The villain screamed in absolute agony as
perfect, geometric slices of his liquid body were flash-boiled and severed. The
structural integrity of the sludge holding Katsuki collapsed. Because Izuku had
essentially carved a perfect box around him, superheating the moisture, the
sludge binding Katsuki turned dry and crumbly.
Izuku willed the blades off. The hum died
instantly.
He reached into the crumbling, smoking ash,
grabbed Katsuki by the collar of his uniform, and violently yanked him
backward. Katsuki tumbled out of the villain's grasp, coughing violently,
covered in soot and dried sludge, but completely unburned by Izuku's quirk.
"My... my body!" the Sludge Villain
wailed, his mass reduced by a third, unable to hold his form together.
"I'll kill you! I'll boil you alive!"
The villain rallied, sending five spiked
tendrils of condensed sludge rocketing toward Izuku and the prone Katsuki.
Izuku stood his ground, stepping protectively
over Katsuki. He took a deep breath, raised his right hand, and ignited a
single blade.
He didn't swing it. He just held it out, a
blinding column of immovable emerald heat.
The tendrils struck the blade and instantly
disintegrated into steam. The villain threw more, and Izuku effortlessly,
calmly rotated his wrist, intercepting every single strike with the plasma. It
was an impregnable defense. The villain was throwing himself into a meat
grinder, destroying his own mass against a blade that could not be dulled,
broken, or pushed back.
Finally, terrified of evaporating completely,
the Sludge Villain shrank back, trembling in fear, trying to gather his
remaining mass to flee down a storm drain.
Before he could, a colossal figure slammed
down from the sky, the impact shaking the entire street.
"I AM PATHETIC!"
A voice boomed, deeper and more resonant than
a cannon blast.
All Might stood there, his massive, muscular
frame casting a shadow over the flames. His signature smile was entirely
absent, replaced by a fierce grimace of self-reproach.
"I told you the traits that make a great
champion," All Might roared, drawing back a fist that seemed to suck the
very air out of the street. "But I failed to live up to my own ideals!
PROS ARE ALWAYS RISKING THEIR LIVES!"
"TEXAS SMASH!"
All Might threw a punch. He didn't even hit
the villain. The sheer air pressure generated by his fist created a localized
tornado. The wind tore through the street, instantly blowing out all the
surrounding fires and hitting the Sludge Villain with the force of a hurricane.
The remaining liquid mass of the villain was splattered violently against the
brick walls, entirely incapacitated.
The wind pressure was so intense that the
clouds above the city parted, revealing the clear blue sky.
Silence fell over the street. Rain began to
patter down gently, a result of the atmospheric pressure change.
Izuku stood frozen, staring at All Might. His
idol. The Number One Hero.
All Might stood tall, coughing into his hand,
before turning his gaze to Izuku. The hero's bright blue eyes locked onto
Izuku's bare hands, taking in the faint wisps of heat still radiating from the
boy's palms.
The Pro Heroes finally snapped out of their
shock and swarmed the area.
What followed was a blur for Izuku. Death Arms
and Kamui Woods corralled him, pulling him away from Katsuki. But instead of
praising him, they were furious. And they were terrified.
"Are you out of your damn mind,
kid?!" Death Arms yelled, grabbing Izuku by the shoulder, though he
deliberately avoided touching Izuku's hands. "What kind of quirk is that?!
You were swinging an unstoppable blade around civilians! If you had misjudged
that swing by an inch, you would have sliced that boy into pieces!"
"You compromised the safety of a
hostage!" Kamui Woods scolded, his wooden mask rigid. "Leave the hero
work to the professionals! Your quirk is too dangerous to be used recklessly
like that!"
Izuku shrank in on himself. The adrenaline
faded, leaving only a cold, gnawing shame. He looked at the ground, tears
mixing with the soot on his cheeks. He slowly walked over to where he had
dropped his inhibitor gloves. He picked them up, his hands shaking, and
strapped them back on. The heavy, familiar weight felt like a prison sentence.
He looked over at Katsuki. Katsuki was being
praised by the paramedics for his resilience and his powerful quirk. But as
Izuku watched, Katsuki pushed a paramedic away and locked eyes with him.
Katsuki didn't yell. He didn't swagger over.
He just stared at Izuku, his crimson eyes wide, his chest heaving. He opened
his mouth, as if to say something, but closed it again. He turned away, his
hands shoved deep into his pockets.
Izuku turned around and began to walk away,
slipping through the police tape, unnoticed by the cheering crowd praising All
Might.
The walk home was agonizingly slow. The sun
had set, and the streetlights cast long, lonely shadows on the pavement. Izuku
walked with his head down, his gloved hands stuffed deep into his pockets.
The heroes were right. He was reckless. If his
math had been wrong, if his hands had shaken even a millimeter, he would have
killed Kacchan. A quirk that only destroys cannot be used to save.
"I should give up," Izuku whispered
into the cool night air. "I'll just find a desk job. Something safe.
Something where I never have to take the gloves off."
"I WOULD RATHER DOUBT THAT, YOUNG
MAN!"
Izuku nearly jumped out of his skin. He
whipped around.
Standing at the entrance of a narrow alleyway
was All Might in his full muscular glory, striking a dramatic pose.
"A-All Might?!" Izuku shrieked,
stumbling backward. "What are you doing here?! How did you get away from
the reporters?!"
"HA HA HA! Escaping the press is a breeze
for a hero of my caliber! I simply leapt away and—BLAARGH!"
Before Izuku's horrified eyes, the towering,
invincible Symbol of Peace suddenly deflated in a massive cloud of steam,
violently coughing up a spray of blood.
When the steam cleared, a gaunt, skeletal man
with hollow eyes and baggy clothes stood in his place, wiping blood from his
chin.
"EEEEEEK!" Izuku screamed, waving
his arms. "You're an imposter! You're a fake!"
"I assure you, kid, I am All Might,"
the skeletal man groaned, leaning heavily against the brick wall. He pulled up
his oversized white shirt, revealing a horrific, sprawling mass of scar tissue
that looked like a jagged crater in his chest. "I suffered this injury in
a battle five years ago. Half my respiratory organs were destroyed. I can only
do hero work for about three hours a day now."
Izuku stared, his mind racing, quickly running
through hero lore. "Five years ago? Was it the fight with Toxic
Chainsaw?"
"You know your stuff," All Might
said, looking impressed, though he quickly waved it off. "But no, that
punk couldn't do this to me. This fight was kept strictly under wraps to
preserve the illusion of the Symbol of Peace. A Symbol of Peace cannot be seen
to be weak."
All Might sighed, sliding down the wall to sit
on the pavement. He looked up at Izuku, his hollow blue eyes piercing straight
through the boy's anxiety.
"I came to find you, kid, to apologize,
and to thank you."
Izuku blinked. "Thank me? But the pros...
they said I was reckless. They said I almost killed the hostage."
"The pros," All Might said, his
voice hardening slightly, "were paralyzed by their own inadequacies. They
were waiting for a quirk perfectly suited to the situation. But you... you
didn't have a suitable quirk either. From what I saw, you have a quirk suited
for absolute destruction. A blade of contained plasma, yes?"
Izuku flinched, gripping his gloved hands
defensively. "Y-Yes. The doctors call it Plasma Saber. It... it cuts
through anything. It's a villain's quirk. It's too dangerous."
All Might shook his head slowly. "Quirks
don't have alignments, kid. People do. I watched you from the crowd before I
found the strength to act. I saw the fear in your eyes. But I also saw what you
did when you ignited that blade."
All Might pushed himself back up to his feet,
walking slowly toward Izuku until he was towering over the boy, even in his
emaciated state.
"A lesser man with a weapon of that
magnitude would have panicked. They would have slashed blindly, bringing down
buildings, boiling the hostage alive, or slaughtering the villain in cold
blood. But you didn't. You used the most lethal, unstoppable cutting force I
have ever seen... with the delicate precision of a surgeon. You didn't strike
to kill. You struck to sever the binds holding your friend. You created a
flawless rescue operation out of an instrument of death."
Izuku felt a lump form in his throat. His
vision blurred with hot tears. For ten years, he had been told his quirk was a
curse. A hazard. A guillotine.
"Top heroes have stories about them from
their school days," All Might said gently, his voice ringing with absolute
conviction. "Most of their stories have one thing in common: their bodies
moved before they had a chance to think."
Izuku gasped, his knees buckling slightly. The
tears finally spilled over, trailing down his freckled cheeks.
"That was true for you today, wasn't
it?" All Might asked.
Izuku nodded violently, sobbing, clutching at
his chest.
"You have been burdened with a terrible,
terrifying power, young man," All Might said, placing a heavy, warm hand
on Izuku's shoulder. "A power that could easily corrupt a weak heart. But
your heart is pure. You possess the ultimate sword, yet you only wish to use it
as a shield. You can become a hero."
Izuku fell to his knees on the pavement,
crying out loud, the emotional weight of a decade of isolation and fear finally
breaking. The Number One Hero—the man he had idolized his entire life—was
validating his existence.
All Might knelt down in front of him, meeting
Izuku at eye level.
"However, U.A. High School will not go
easy on you," All Might said, his tone shifting from comforting to deeply
serious. "You have immense raw power, but clearly, no formal training. You
fear your own quirk. If you go into the entrance exam as you are now, you will
either fail because you refuse to use it, or you will accidentally kill a
fellow examinee."
Izuku wiped his eyes, looking up at the
skeletal hero. "Then... what do I do?"
"You learn control," All Might said,
a small, genuine smile forming on his gaunt face. "I cannot teach you how
to use plasma. But I know how to train a body to handle overwhelming,
destructive power. I know how to move, how to fight, and how to hold back when
every instinct tells you to go all out. I am looking for a successor to my own
legacy, kid... but perhaps, before I pass my torch, I can help you temper your
blade."
All Might extended a hand toward Izuku.
"Midoriya Izuku. Will you let me train
you?"
Izuku looked at All Might's hand. He then
looked down at his own thick, heavy inhibitor gloves. For the first time in his
life, he didn't view them as a permanent prison. He viewed them as training
weights. Something he would one day be strong enough to take off for good.
Izuku reached out with both gloved hands and
grabbed All Might's hand, gripping it tightly.
"Yes," Izuku said, his voice
trembling but filled with a new, unbreakable resolve. "Please, All Might.
Teach me how to save people."
The ten months leading up to the U.A. Entrance
Exam were forged in sweat, sea salt, and the agonizing heat of his own body.
Izuku Midoriya did not inherit a quirk from
All Might. He didn't need one. He was already in possession of a power that
rivaled the Symbol of Peace in sheer destructive capability. What Izuku lacked
was the vessel to contain it.
"Your quirk is tied to your biology,
young Midoriya!" All Might had yelled over the crashing waves of Dagobah
Municipal Beach Park, a sprawling coastline buried under decades of illegal
dumping. "Generating plasma requires immense caloric energy, and
maintaining that electromagnetic containment field taxes your nervous system!
If you generate a blade larger than a few feet, your body will overheat, and
you’ll pass out before the villain even strikes!"
So, they trained. Izuku moved refrigerators,
crushed cars, and hauled rusted steel beams across the sand. When his muscles
screamed in agony, All Might taught him martial arts. He taught him footwork,
center of gravity, and how to parry an opponent's momentum.
"A sword is useless if the swordsman has
no balance!" All Might would bark, dodging Izuku's un-ignited, gloved
strikes. "You cannot rely on the fact that your quirk cuts through
everything! If you face a villain who is faster than you, or who strikes from
afar, you need the physical reflexes to evade!"
Izuku absorbed every lesson like a sponge. For
the first time in his life, he was not suppressing his power; he was trying to
understand it. He learned that his passive heat resistance was a muscle that
could be trained. By the end of the ten months, Dagobah Beach was spotless, and
Izuku Midoriya was transformed. The scrawny, trembling boy had been replaced by
a lean, densely muscled teenager with calloused hands and a quiet, burning
determination in his green eyes.
Now, standing before the massive, towering
gates of U.A. High School, Izuku took a deep breath. The spring air was crisp.
He adjusted the thick, heavy straps of his inhibitor gloves.
"Out of my way, Deku."
The voice was a low, aggressive growl. Izuku
turned to see Katsuki Bakugo striding up the paved pathway. Katsuki looked the
same, but the air around him was tenser, more volatile. The incident with the
Sludge Villain had driven a wedge deeper between them. Katsuki had seen Izuku’s
power firsthand. He had seen the absolute devastation Izuku was capable of, and
it terrified him.
"Good morning, Kacchan," Izuku said,
his voice steady. Ten months of training with the Number One Hero had done wonders
for his posture. He didn't flinch.
Katsuki stopped, his crimson eyes narrowing as
he took in Izuku's newfound physical confidence. "Don't think just because
you got lucky with that sludge bastard that you're hero material. You're still
a walking hazard. If you get in my way today, I'll blast you to ash."
"I'm not going to get in your way,
Kacchan," Izuku replied evenly. "I'm just going to pass."
Katsuki clicked his tongue in irritation,
shoving past Izuku and storming into the auditorium. Izuku watched him go, a
small sigh escaping his lips. He turned to follow, but in his distraction, the
toe of his red sneaker caught on a raised paving stone.
He pitched forward, gravity seizing him.
Before he could hit the concrete, he felt a
sudden lightness. He was floating in mid-air.
"Are you okay?" a cheerful voice
asked.
Izuku flailed his arms, righting himself as a
girl with a brown bob and permanent blush marks on her cheeks pressed her hands
together. "Release!" she chimed, and gravity reasserted itself,
dropping Izuku gently onto his feet.
"I-I'm so sorry!" Izuku stammered,
his face instantly flushing as red as his shoes.
"It's my quirk! I make things
float!" she beamed. "I figured it would be bad luck if you fell right
before the exam. I'm Ochaco Uraraka! Let's do our best today!"
She bounded off toward the auditorium before
Izuku could even stutter out his name. He stared after her, clutching his
chest. I talked to a girl! Well, she talked to me, but it counts!
The auditorium was massive, packed with
hundreds of anxious teenagers. Present Mic, the Voice Hero, stood at the
podium, delivering the briefing with deafening enthusiasm. He explained the
practical exam: a mock cityscape populated with villain robots worth one, two,
or three points.
"Are there any questions?!" Present
Mic shouted, striking a pose.
A tall, broad-shouldered boy with glasses and
meticulously combed hair stood up rigidly. "Sir! On the printout, there
are four types of villains! If this is a misprint, U.A., the most prominent
hero academy in Japan, should be ashamed of that foolish mistake!" He then
whipped around, pointing directly at Izuku. "And you! With the unkempt
hair! You've been muttering this entire time! It's distracting! If you're here
on a pleasure trip, then you should leave immediately!"
Izuku shrank down in his seat, covering his
mouth. He had been quietly analyzing the point distribution, a habit he couldn't
break.
"Okay, okay, Examinee Number 7111!"
Present Mic placated, pointing finger guns at the boy. "The fourth villain
type is worth zero points! It's an obstacle! A massive gimmick! If you see it,
run!"
Izuku looked down at his gloved hands. Robots.
The realization washed over him like a wave of
pure relief. For ten years, he had feared his quirk because he was surrounded
by fragile, fleshy human beings. He had locked his power away because if he
swung his arm, someone died. But today... today he wasn't fighting humans. He
was fighting metal, wiring, and synthetic plating. Targets that didn't bleed.
Targets he didn't have to hold back against.
A slow, determined smile crept across Izuku's
face.
Exam Battle Center B was a sprawling,
hyper-realistic replica of a modern city district. Izuku stood at the front of
the massive metal gates among dozens of other examinees, including the girl who
had saved him from falling, and the strict boy with the glasses.
Izuku reached down to his wrists.
Click.
He undid the heavy metal clasp of his right
inhibitor glove. He pulled the thick, insulated material off, stuffing it into
his pocket. He then removed the left glove. The cool morning air kissed his
bare palms. It felt strange. It felt dangerous. But most importantly, it felt
liberating.
"What's with the kid taking his gloves
off?" a boy with blonde hair muttered nearby. "Does he have a
hand-based quirk?"
"RIGHT, LET'S START!" Present Mic's
voice blasted from speakers hidden throughout the city. "THERE ARE NO
COUNTDOWNS IN REAL BATTLES! RUN, RUN, RUN!"
The massive gates began to grind open. Before
they were even wide enough for two people to pass side-by-side, Izuku moved.
He didn't run like a normal teenager. He
dropped his center of gravity, engaged his reinforced leg muscles, and shot
forward with explosive speed, slipping through the crack in the gates and
sprinting down the main avenue before the other examinees had even processed
the command.
"He got a head start!" someone
yelled.
Izuku ignored them. He rounded the first
corner and skidded to a halt. Blocking the intersection were three robots: two
One-Pointers and a Three-Pointer. They rolled on tank treads, their mechanical
eyes glowing a menacing red.
"Target acquired," the Three-Pointer
droned, raising a massive, dual-barreled cannon.
Izuku didn't flinch. He planted his feet,
brought his hands to his sides, and opened the floodgates.
VWUMMM-KRAK!
The deep, oscillating hum tore through the
street. From his palms, two brilliant, blinding three-foot blades of emerald
plasma erupted. The air around him shimmered as the temperature in the alleyway
skyrocketed. The dry heat was intense, instantly vaporizing the morning dew on
the pavement.
The Three-Pointer fired a volley of rubber
bullets.
Izuku moved. Relying on All Might's training,
he sidestepped the projectiles, his body a blur of motion. He didn't even
bother trying to deflect them; he just closed the distance.
He reached the first One-Pointer. He didn't
swing hard. He didn't need to. He simply extended his right arm and walked past
it.
The three-foot plasma blade effortlessly
glided through the robot's thick titanium torso. There was no sound of tearing
metal, no resistance. Only the sharp hiss of flash-vaporization. The robot's
top half slid off its chassis, its internal circuitry glowing cherry red before
detonating.
Izuku didn't stop. He pivoted, ducking beneath
a mechanical punch from the second One-Pointer, and drove his left blade
upward, cleanly severing the robot's arm, followed immediately by a horizontal
sweep that decapitated it.
The Three-Pointer aimed its cannon
point-blank.
Izuku crossed his arms in an 'X' shape,
igniting the blades brighter. He leaped forward, slicing through the cannon
barrel and continuing the motion through the robot's main chassis. He landed
smoothly on the other side. A second later, the Three-Pointer collapsed into
four perfectly cauterized pieces.
Five points in less than ten seconds.
"Incredible," Izuku whispered,
staring at the glowing green blades. For the first time in his life, he was
using his quirk for exactly what it was meant for: fighting. It was
exhilarating.
He deactivated the blades to conserve his
stamina and sprinted deeper into the city.
High above the mock city, in a darkened
observation room, the faculty of U.A. High School watched the monitors.
"We have a promising crop this
year," Midnight purred, tapping her chin as she watched Katsuki Bakugo
annihilate a group of robots with a massive explosion.
"Indeed. But look at Examinee 7111,"
Snipe said, pointing to a central monitor.
The teachers turned their attention to the
screen. It showed the green-haired boy sprinting through the streets. A group
of five Two-Pointers surrounded him. The boy didn't panic. Blinding green light
erupted from his hands. In a display of terrifyingly precise martial arts, he
danced through the robots. He didn't smash them; he dismantled them. With
surgical, effortless strikes, he severed limbs, sliced through power cores, and
reduced the mechanical threats to molten slag in the blink of an eye.
Aizawa Shouta, wearing his signature yellow
sleeping bag like a scarf, narrowed his bloodshot eyes. "That's Midoriya
Izuku. Quirk: Plasma Saber."
"Good lord, the heat output on that quirk
is staggering," Ectoplasm muttered, looking at the thermal readings on the
console. "His blades are burning at tens of thousands of degrees, but the
energy is entirely contained within an electromagnetic field. That's why he
isn't setting the entire city on fire. But... against physical matter..."
"It's unstoppable," Aizawa finished
grimly. "There is no physical material on earth that can withstand that
level of localized, contained heat. He isn't cutting them. He's deleting the
matter he touches. It's a lethal quirk. Completely, unequivocally lethal."
"He's racking up points like crazy,
though!" Present Mic cheered. "Look at him go! He's at fifty-five
points already!"
"He's skilled," Aizawa admitted, his
tone flat. "He's clearly received physical training to compensate for the
weightlessness of his 'swords.' But a hero who can only cut things into pieces
is a liability. Let's see how he handles something he can't just casually swat
away."
Aizawa reached out and pressed a large, red
button on the console.
Back in the mock city, Izuku was panting
heavily. The air around him was stiflingly hot. Generating the plasma was
taxing his body. His sweat was evaporating the second it formed, and his
muscles ached from the recoil of moving so fast.
He was at sixty-three points. It was enough.
He was sure of it.
Suddenly, the ground began to shake. The
vibrations were so violent that windows in the surrounding mock buildings
shattered.
At the end of the main avenue, a shadow
eclipsed the sun.
The Zero Pointer. It wasn't a robot; it was a
mobile skyscraper. Its massive treads crushed entire buildings as it rolled
forward. Its colossal fist pulled back, preparing to level the entire block.
The other examinees in the area screamed,
turning and running for their lives.
"It's the gimmick!"
"Run! It's massive!"
Izuku took a step back, ready to flee with the
others. Present Mic had said to run. There was no point in fighting it.
"Ow! Please... help!"
Izuku stopped. His blood ran cold. He looked
back toward the path of the colossal machine. There, trapped beneath a chunk of
concrete rubble from a crushed building, was the nice girl—Uraraka. She was
struggling to pull her leg free, but the debris was too heavy, and she had
exhausted her quirk.
The Zero Pointer's shadow fell over her.
Izuku didn't think. The same instinct that had
pushed him toward the Sludge Villain took over. But this time, he wasn't
unarmed.
He sprinted toward her.
"Deku?!" he heard someone yell. He
saw the boy with glasses, Iida, staring at him in shock as he ran toward the
behemoth.
Izuku reached Uraraka. He could easily slice
the concrete off her leg, but there wasn't time. The Zero Pointer's massive
foot was already descending. It was going to crush them both in a matter of
seconds.
I can't destroy the foot. The debris will fall
on us, Izuku's mind raced, processing information at lightspeed. I have to
destroy the main power core. But it's too high up. I can't jump that high. And
my blades are too short to reach deep enough into the chassis.
He looked down at his hands. He looked up at
the towering robot.
All Might said generating a larger blade would
overheat me. It might make me pass out.
But if I don't... she dies.
Izuku planted his feet firmly on the ground.
He took a deep breath, drawing oxygen into his lungs, feeling the fiery core of
his quirk resting in his chest.
"Get ready to run!" Izuku yelled to
Uraraka.
He brought both hands together, interlocking
his fingers, pointing his palms upward. He closed his eyes and shattered his
own mental limiters. He pushed every ounce of energy, every drop of adrenaline,
into the electromagnetic field generating from his hands.
VWUMMMMMMMMM!
The hum wasn't just loud; it was an
earthquake. The sound resonated in the chests of everyone within a five-block
radius.
Izuku opened his eyes. Erupting from his
clasped hands was not a three-foot blade. It was a roaring, blinding, twenty-foot
column of pure, neon-green plasma. It was as thick as a tree trunk. The heat
radiating off it was so intense that the asphalt beneath Izuku's feet began to
melt, and the surrounding air warped violently.
The pain was immediate. It felt like his arms
were submerged in boiling water. His skin turned bright red.
"Aaaaaaaagh!" Izuku screamed, using
the sheer thermal pressure radiating from the base of the blade to propel
himself upward.
The thermal updraft acted like a rocket
engine. Izuku shot fifty feet into the air, soaring directly toward the chest
plate of the descending Zero Pointer.
In the observation room, the teachers stood up
in unison.
"He extended the containment
field?!" Ectoplasm gasped. "The thermal output is off the
charts!"
Izuku hung in the air, directly in front of
the robot's massive chest. He swung his arms in a massive, sweeping arc.
The twenty-foot plasma blade met the heavily
armored torso of the Zero Pointer.
The titanium plating, thick enough to
withstand a nuclear blast, offered less resistance than wet tissue paper. Izuku
cleaved horizontally through the entire chest cavity of the colossal machine.
The blade easily reached the main power core, vaporizing it instantly.
Izuku willed the quirk off. The massive blade
vanished, saving him from passing out instantly.
He began to fall. Below him, the Zero Pointer
froze. A terrifying, groaning sound echoed through the city as the top half of
the skyscraper-sized robot slowly slid off the bottom half, bisected with molecular
perfection. The severed edges glowed a blinding, molten orange.
The top half crashed into the empty street
behind the robot, sending up a massive plume of dust and shockwaves, safely
away from Uraraka.
Izuku hit the ground hard, tumbling across the
pavement, his uniform singed, his hands raw, red, and blistering from the heat.
He lay on his back, staring up at the blue sky, his chest heaving as he gasped
for air.
"Times up!" Present Mic's voice
echoed.
The mock city was dead silent. Every single
examinee, including Uraraka and Iida, was staring at the boy on the ground, and
then at the clean, glowing cut that had felled a mechanical god.
Izuku closed his eyes and let the darkness
take him.
Izuku woke up in the nurse's office, the smell
of sterile bandages filling his nose. Recovery Girl, the youthful heroine, had
treated his burns.
"You're lucky, sonny," she had
chided, wrapping his hands in specialized cooling bandages. "Your body has
a natural resistance to heat, but you pushed your quirk beyond its safety
threshold. Your skin suffered first-degree burns. If you had held that massive
blade for even five seconds longer, you would have boiled your own blood. Learn
your limits."
A week later, the letter arrived.
Izuku sat at his desk, his heart pounding
against his ribs, as he stared at the metal disc. A hologram projected upward,
revealing All Might in his yellow pinstripe suit.
"I am here as a projection!" All
Might boomed.
The hero explained the scoring. Izuku had
scored 63 villain points. But there was a hidden metric: Rescue Points. For
saving Uraraka and risking his own life against an insurmountable obstacle, he
had been awarded 60 rescue points.
"Total score: 123 points!" All Might
announced proudly. "First place! Midoriya Izuku, this is your hero
academia!"
Izuku cried. He cried so hard his mother came
running in, and they cried together. He had done it. He had proved that his
lethal quirk could be used for good. He was going to be a hero.
The euphoria of acceptance evaporated exactly
five minutes into his first day at U.A. High School.
Class 1-A was a chaotic mix of vibrant
personalities. Izuku had barely managed to introduce himself to Uraraka and
Iida before a man in a yellow sleeping bag rolled into the classroom, chugged a
juice pouch, and declared himself their homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa.
"Put these on and meet me on the PE
grounds," Aizawa said lazily, tossing a gym uniform onto the desk.
"We're doing a Quirk Assessment Test."
"An assessment test?!" the class
chorused. "What about the entrance ceremony? The orientation?"
"Heroes don't have time for pointless
ceremonies," Aizawa replied, his eyes cold and uninterested.
Ten minutes later, the class stood on the dirt
field. Aizawa stood before them, holding a softball.
"Bakugo," Aizawa said. "You
placed second in the practical exam. What was your farthest softball throw in
junior high?"
"Sixty-seven meters," Katsuki
replied, stepping forward. He shot a glare at Izuku, still furious that 'Deku'
had somehow beaten him for first place.
"Try it with your quirk. Anything goes, just
stay in the circle."
Katsuki grinned ferociously. He wound up, and
as he threw the ball, he unleashed a massive explosion from his palm.
"DIE!"
The ball rocketed into the sky, leaving a
trail of smoke. Aizawa held up a digital device. 705.2 meters.
The class erupted in cheers and awe.
"Awesome!" "We can really use our quirks!"
"Awesome?" Aizawa's voice cut
through the excitement like a knife. His demeanor shifted from lazy to
predatory. "You have three years to become heroes. You think it's going to
be all fun and games? Let's make a new rule. The student who ranks last in
total points across all eight tests will be judged as having no potential...
and will be expelled."
The class gasped. Izuku felt a cold knot form
in his stomach.
"Midoriya," Aizawa said, his dark
eyes locking onto Izuku. "Step up."
Izuku swallowed hard. He slowly walked into
the throwing circle, feeling the eyes of his classmates on him. He reached into
his pocket, instinctively grabbing the familiar weight of his inhibitor gloves.
"Don't put those on," Aizawa
commanded, his capture scarf shifting slightly around his neck.
Izuku stopped, his hands bare.
"I watched your entrance exam,
Midoriya," Aizawa said loud enough for the entire class to hear.
"Your quirk is undeniably powerful. Against giant metal robots, you are a
god of destruction. But this isn't a robot-fighting academy. This is a school
for heroes."
Aizawa stepped closer, his imposing presence
making Izuku shrink back.
"How do you subdue a purse-snatcher,
Midoriya? How do you stop a bar fight? Do you amputate their arms? Do you slice
them in half? A hero who only knows how to kill is a villain with a license.
Your quirk is a lethal weapon. If you use it today exactly as you did in the
entrance exam, you'll destroy the equipment, or worse, hurt a classmate. Prove
to me you have restraint. Prove to me you belong here, or pack your bags."
Izuku stared at the dirt. Aizawa’s words
echoed the darkest fears he had harbored for ten years. He was the Executioner.
Katsuki had said it. The doctors had said it.
No, Izuku thought, clenching his fists. I am
not a villain. All Might believes in me.
"Let's begin," Aizawa said, stepping
back.
The first test was the 50-meter dash. Izuku
lined up against Katsuki.
"I'll crush you, Deku," Katsuki
snarled, sparks popping in his hands.
"Ready... go!" the robot timer
announced.
Katsuki launched himself forward using
explosions to propel him. Izuku didn't panic. He ignited two small, one-foot
plasma blades, not pointing them forward, but pointing them backward and
slightly down. He pushed the thermal output high, instantly creating a massive
thermal updraft. The sudden expansion of superheated air acted like a thruster,
propelling Izuku forward at breakneck speed. He crossed the finish line a split
second behind Katsuki.
3.14 seconds.
Katsuki stared in shock as Izuku deactivated
the blades, panting from the heat.
The Grip Strength test was trickier. Izuku
couldn't use his quirk without instantly melting the dynamometer. He relied
solely on the immense physical strength All Might had helped him build at
Dagobah Beach. He scored a highly respectable 75 kg. Not superhuman, but well
above average.
For the Standing Long Jump, Izuku pointed his
palms at the ground, ignited the blades for a microsecond, and rode the thermal
shockwave across the sandbox, clearing it easily.
He was surviving. He was adapting. But the real
challenge was the ball throw.
Izuku stood in the circle, the softball in his
hand. He looked at the sky. He couldn't just throw it normally; he would place
last against people with physical enhancement quirks. He needed to use his
quirk.
If I ignite the blade, I'll vaporize the ball
instantly, Izuku thought, his mind racing. Even if I try to use the thermal
updraft, the heat radiating from the blade will melt the synthetic leather
before I can throw it.
He wound up his arm. He closed his eyes. I
have to try. I have to control the heat.
He ignited a small blade from his right index
finger, intending to flick the ball and ride the shockwave.
Suddenly, the green light vanished.
Izuku threw the ball. It sailed a pathetic
forty-six meters.
"What?" Izuku gasped, looking at his
hand. The quirk was gone. The heat in his chest was suppressed.
He looked over at Aizawa. The teacher’s hair
was floating in the air, his eyes glowing a fierce red.
"I erased your quirk," Aizawa said
coldly. "You were going to try and use the thermal shockwave to propel the
ball, weren't you? Foolish. You can't control the ambient heat of your plasma
well enough yet. You would have melted the ball in your hand, permanently
ruined your throw, and likely given yourself third-degree burns. You have zero
control over the lethality of your power. You're a liability."
"I... I was trying to find a way..."
Izuku started.
"Trying isn't enough when lives are on
the line," Aizawa interrupted, his hair falling as he blinked,
deactivating his quirk. "You rely entirely on the destructive nature of
your quirk or the residual heat it produces. You have the ultimate sword,
Midoriya, but you don't know how to sheathe it. Take your final throw. If it's
a normal throw, you'll place last."
Izuku stared at the softball Aizawa tossed
back to him. The class was utterly silent. Katsuki was smirking.
Izuku squeezed the ball. He's right. The blade
is too sharp. The heat is too wild.
But then, Izuku remembered the doctor's words
from when he was four years old.
‘He subconsciously generates a powerful
electromagnetic containment field around the plasma.’
The plasma was the destructive force. But the
magnetic field was what gave it shape. What if... what if he reversed the
priority?
Izuku stepped back to the front of the circle.
He took a deep breath.
"Sensei," Izuku called out, his
voice shaking slightly but gaining strength. "You said my quirk is a
lethal weapon. You asked how I would stop a purse-snatcher without amputating
their arm."
Aizawa raised an eyebrow.
Izuku held his right hand out. He closed his
eyes and focused. He didn't focus on the heat. He didn't draw upon the raw, superheated
gas in his cells. Instead, he focused entirely on the pressure. The invisible,
magnetic cage that held the star together.
He opened the floodgates, but only a fraction.
He choked the plasma supply, but maxed out the electromagnetic field.
Vwum.
A blade appeared from his palm, but it looked
entirely different. It wasn't blindingly bright neon-green. It was a dull,
pulsing, translucent emerald. It didn't hum with a deafening roar; it crackled
with deep, heavy static. And it wasn't three feet long; it was a thick, stout
cylinder, exactly the length and width of a baseball bat.
The heat radiating from it was intense, but it
wasn't vaporizing the air. It was the heat of a hot stove, not a dying star.
Izuku tossed the softball into the air with
his left hand.
He gripped the dull, crackling cylinder of
energy with both hands. He planted his feet, twisting his hips, and swung it
like a bat.
The electromagnetic construct struck the
softball.
CRACK!
There was no hiss of vaporization. There was
no molten slag. The immense physical pressure of the magnetic field, combined
with the heavy blunt force of Izuku's swing and a burst of controlled,
concussive heat, launched the ball into the stratosphere.
The ball smoked slightly as it tore through
the sky, but it was completely intact. It vanished into the clouds.
Izuku let the construct dissipate. He stood
there, panting, his arms aching from the kinetic feedback.
Aizawa stared at his digital device. It
beeped. He turned it around for the class to see.
705.3 meters.
Izuku had beaten Katsuki by exactly 0.1
meters.
Izuku turned to Aizawa, raising his right
hand, making a fist. He looked exhausted, but his green eyes burned with an
unyielding, heroic fire.
"Sensei," Izuku said, grinning
through the pain in his arms. "I call that... Stun Baton Mode. It burns,
and it hits hard... but it doesn't cut."
The class erupted.
"Whoa! He hit it like a homerun!"
Eijiro Kirishima yelled, pumping his fists. "That was so manly!"
"He changed the shape and intensity of
his quirk!" Yaoyorozu observed, her eyes wide with analytical interest.
"He traded cutting power for blunt concussive force!"
Katsuki Bakugo stood frozen, his eyes bulging.
"He... he didn't blow it up. He didn't cut it. He held it back."
Katsuki grit his teeth, a furious roar escaping his throat. "DEKU! YOU
BASTARD! TELL ME HOW YOU DID THAT!" Katsuki lunged forward, explosions ready.
Before he could take three steps, Aizawa's
capture scarf lashed out, wrapping around Katsuki and binding him tight.
"Calm down, Bakugo," Aizawa warned,
his eyes glowing red again, erasing Katsuki's quirk. "Or I'll expel you
right now."
Aizawa pulled his scarf back, ignoring the
fuming blonde, and looked at Izuku.
On the outside, Aizawa's expression remained
perfectly bored and apathetic. But inside, his mind was racing.
He lowered the density of the plasma and
increased the magnetic containment field to create a solid mass of blunt
pressure. He willingly weakened the ultimate offensive quirk just to prove he
could apprehend a villain non-lethally. He risked failing the test and breaking
his arms from the recoil to demonstrate restraint.
Aizawa allowed a tiny, almost imperceptible
smirk to touch the corner of his mouth.
This kid... he might just be a hero after all.
At the end of the day, the scores were posted.
Izuku ranked 4th overall, carried by his impressive sprint, his solid physical
scores, and his monstrous throw.
Mineta, the shortest boy in the class, fell to
his knees in despair, having placed last.
"By the way, I lied about the
expulsion," Aizawa said flatly, walking away. "It was a logical ruse
to draw out your upper limits."
The class shrieked in collective shock, while
Yaoyorozu sighed, claiming it was obvious. Izuku just let out a massive breath
he felt he had been holding for ten years.
As Izuku walked to the train station that
evening, the heavy inhibitor gloves were securely strapped to his hands. But
they didn't feel like a prison anymore. They felt like training wheels. He had
found a way to use his power without taking a life. He had forged a blunt edge
on an unstoppable sword.
He was Izuku Midoriya. And he was finally
learning how to be a hero.
The interior of the U.A. charter bus hummed
with the idle chatter of Class 1-A. Outside the tinted windows, the sprawling
metropolis of Musutafu gave way to the isolated, heavily forested outskirts
where U.A.’s specialized training facilities were located.
Izuku Midoriya sat near the middle of the bus,
his notebook open on his lap, mechanically jotting down observations about his
classmates’ quirks. But his mind was elsewhere. He kept rubbing the thick,
carbon-fiber reinforced fabric of his inhibitor gloves. The heavy leather and
thermal mesh felt comforting today. Since the Quirk Assessment Test a few days
prior, he had gained a modicum of confidence in his "Stun Baton"
mode, but that required immense concentration, space, and prep time. It wasn't
a reflex yet.
"Midoriya," a blunt voice croaked
from across the aisle.
Izuku blinked, snapping out of his thoughts.
Tsuyu Asui, the frog-quirk girl with large, unblinking eyes, was staring
directly at him. She rested a finger on her chin.
"I generally say whatever comes to
mind," Tsuyu began, her tone perfectly conversational. "Your quirk.
It’s some kind of super-heated energy blade, right? You cut that giant Zero
Pointer in half like it was made of wet paper."
The bus quieted down slightly, several students
leaning in. Izuku’s display at the entrance exam was already the stuff of
legend among the first-years.
"Y-Yeah," Izuku stammered, his face
flushing at the sudden attention. "The doctors called it Plasma Saber.
It’s... well, it’s highly concentrated ionized gas contained within an
electromagnetic field."
"It's insanely flashy!" Eijiro
Kirishima grinned, leaning over his seat. "And super manly! You’ve got
like, the ultimate attack quirk. But... no offense, man, you act kind of jumpy
for a guy carrying a pair of unstoppable laser swords in his hands."
"That’s exactly what I was thinking,
ribbit," Tsuyu nodded. "You wear those massive gloves all the time,
even in class. And you look terrified whenever you take them off. Why is
that?"
Izuku looked down at his lap. The cheerful
atmosphere on the bus suddenly felt heavy. He could feel Katsuki Bakugo’s
piercing, angry glare boring into the back of his head from a few rows up.
Katsuki knew exactly why.
"Because... because it's a lethal
quirk," Izuku said quietly, the words tasting like ash in his mouth.
"My plasma burns at tens of thousands of degrees. The containment field
keeps the heat from radiating too far, but... whatever the blade touches
doesn't just get cut. It gets vaporized. I have no natural blunt-force attacks.
If I sneeze and my quirk activates, I could take someone's arm off, and they'd
never even feel it happen."
A heavy silence fell over the surrounding
students. Kirishima’s smile faltered, replaced by a look of profound
understanding. Denki Kaminari swallowed hard.
"Oh," Uraraka said softly from the
seat beside Izuku, looking at his heavily gloved hands with newfound sympathy.
"That’s... that’s a lot of responsibility to carry around."
"I spent most of my life terrified of
it," Izuku admitted, looking up and offering a small, shaky smile.
"I'm only just now learning how to control it so I can save people without
hurting them. That's why I'm at U.A. I want to learn how to be a hero who
doesn't have to use his sword."
"Whatever, Deku," Katsuki scoffed
loudly, crossing his arms and glaring out the window. "A sword is a sword.
You can wrap it in bubble wrap all you want, but you're still a walking
hazard."
Before Izuku could respond, the bus began to
slow down.
"We're here," Aizawa’s tired voice
drifted from the front. "Stop messing around and get out."
The facility before them was massive, a
sprawling dome of glass and steel that looked like a futuristic biosphere.
Standing at the entrance was the Space Hero, Thirteen, clad in their signature
bulky, white astronaut suit.
"Welcome, everyone, to the Unforeseen
Simulation Joint! Or, as I like to call it, the USJ!" Thirteen cheered,
gesturing to the incredible interior. Inside the dome were various catastrophic
environments: a raging shipwreck, a blazing fire zone, a crumbling urban ruin,
and a treacherous landslide area.
Thirteen held up a puffy white finger.
"Before we begin, I have a few things to say. Or maybe a lot. As you all
know, my quirk is Black Hole. I can suck up and tear apart anything."
"You've used it to save people from
countless disasters!" Uraraka cheered, practically vibrating with
excitement.
"True," Thirteen nodded, their voice
taking on a somber, serious tone that instantly commanded the room. "But
my quirk could also easily be used to kill people."
Izuku’s breath hitched. He instinctively
gripped his wrists.
"In our superhuman society, quirks are
heavily regulated, and the requirements for lawful use are strict,"
Thirteen continued. "But please do not forget that many of you possess
abilities that can end a life with a single wrong step. Aizawa-sensei’s
physical tests taught you your potential. But this class will teach you the
weight of a human life. You must learn to use your powers to save, not to
destroy."
Izuku bowed his head. Thirteen’s words
resonated in his soul. This was exactly what he needed. This was where he would
finally forge his restraint.
But fate, it seemed, had no interest in
Izuku’s restraint.
The lights in the massive dome flickered and
died. A sudden, chilling drop in temperature swept through the central plaza.
Down in the valley, near the fountain, the space itself began to warp. A
pinpoint of purple and black fog expanded, swirling like a vortex, growing
larger and larger until it formed a massive, ominous gate.
"Gather together and don't move!"
Aizawa barked, his lazy demeanor instantly vanishing. He pulled his yellow
goggles over his eyes and unraveled his capture weapon. "Thirteen, protect
the students!"
"What is that?" Kirishima asked,
squinting down at the plaza. "Is this like the entrance exam? Does the
training start already?"
"Stay back!" Aizawa yelled, his
voice laced with genuine alarm. "Those aren't robots. Those are real
villains."
Izuku’s blood ran cold. He stepped to the edge
of the stairs, looking down into the plaza.
From the purple warp gate, a nightmare poured
in. Dozens, then hundreds, of terrifying figures stalked out of the darkness.
Mutants, thugs, men and women armed with crude weapons and dangerous-looking
quirks.
Then, three figures emerged that made Izuku's
stomach drop. A man entirely made of the purple fog, wearing an elegant
bartender's suit. A hulking, grotesque monster with exposed brain matter, a
beak-like mouth, and muscles that looked artificially inflated. And leading
them all, a slender, hunched man covered in severed, disembodied hands, his
pale blue hair falling over a crazed, bloodshot eye.
"Eraserhead and Thirteen," the
hand-covered man rasped, his voice scratching against the silence of the dome.
"The schedule we received said All Might would be here. Where is he? I
went through the trouble of bringing this whole crowd... and the final boss
doesn't even show up?"
Izuku’s mind raced. They have the schedule?
They bypassed the U.A. barrier? They're here to kill All Might?
"Let's see," the villain continued,
a terrifying grin stretching across his cracked lips. "Will he show up if
we kill some of these kids?"
Aizawa didn't wait. He vaulted down the
massive staircase, plunging headfirst into the army of villains.
"We have to evacuate!" Thirteen
ordered, ushering the students back toward the heavy steel doors.
But before they could take ten steps, the
purple fog materialized right in front of them, expanding to block the entire
exit. Two glowing yellow eyes opened within the mist.
"I cannot allow that," the fog
entity said politely. "We are the League of Villains. It may be
presumptuous of us, but we have invited ourselves into the home of the heroes
in order to have All Might, the Symbol of Peace, draw his last breath. My role
is to scatter you... and torture you to death."
"Get out of the way!" Katsuki
roared, launching himself forward alongside Kirishima. They unleashed a
massive, combined explosion right into the center of the fog.
"Kacchan, no! Physical attacks won't work
on gas!" Izuku yelled, but it was too late.
The smoke cleared, and Kurogiri was completely
unharmed. "How dangerous," the villain mused. "Even if you are
students, you are still excellent golden eggs."
The fog surged forward like a tidal wave,
enveloping the students. Izuku felt a terrifying weightlessness. The world went
black, twisting and contorting around him. He couldn't breathe.
Then, the oppressive heat of the fog was
replaced by the freezing shock of cold water.
Izuku plunged beneath the surface, his heavy
red sneakers and thick inhibitor gloves dragging him down. He opened his eyes,
the saltwater stinging, and saw the wreckage of a massive, rusted ship hovering
above him. The Shipwreck Zone.
He kicked his legs, trying to swim to the
surface, but a shadow passed over him.
A villain with a shark-like mutation was
rocketing through the water straight toward him, jaws wide open, lined with
razor-sharp teeth.
He's too fast in the water! Izuku thought in a
panic. He raised his heavy, waterlogged hands. I have to use it. I have to...
If he ignited his blade underwater, the heat
would flash-boil the surrounding water instantly. The resulting steam explosion
would cook Izuku alive, and likely boil the villain as well. He couldn't do it.
Before the shark-villain could snap its jaws
around Izuku’s leg, a long, powerful green tongue whipped through the water,
wrapping securely around Izuku’s waist. He was yanked upward with incredible
force, bursting through the surface of the water and flying through the air.
He crashed onto the metal deck of the sinking
ship, coughing up seawater.
"Midoriya, are you okay, ribbit?"
Tsuyu asked, landing gracefully beside him. She had Mineta tucked under her
other arm, the short boy sobbing hysterically.
"T-Thank you, Asui," Izuku gasped,
pushing himself up onto his hands and knees.
"Call me Tsu," she corrected calmly,
though her eyes were scanning the dark waters below.
Izuku dragged himself to the railing. The
water was churning. One by one, villains were surfacing, surrounding the rusted
ship. Some had aquatic mutations; others were wielding harpoons, rusty
cutlasses, and even firearms. They were grinning, anticipating an easy
slaughter.
"They're everywhere!" Mineta
screamed, pulling at his purple, grape-like hair. "We're going to die!
We're going to get eaten by shark guys and sliced into sashimi! Why did I want
to be a hero?!"
"Calm down, Mineta," Tsuyu said,
though her voice held a tight edge of tension. "Midoriya, what do we do?
You're the tactician. And you have the strongest attack quirk here."
Izuku stared down at the villains. There were
at least fifteen of them.
His heart hammered against his ribs like a
trapped bird.
They're real people, his mind screamed. They
aren't robots. They aren't concrete walls. They are made of flesh and bone and
blood.
"I... I can't," Izuku whispered, his
hands trembling violently.
"What do you mean you can't?!"
Mineta shrieked. "You cut a building-sized robot in half! Just cut the
water! Boil them!"
"If I boil the water, the steam will rise
and cook us on this deck too!" Izuku snapped back, his tactical mind
cutting through his panic. "And even if I jump down there... if my blade
touches them... it won't just hurt them. It will sever them. They'll die,
Mineta. I'll kill them."
"I'd rather they die than me!"
Mineta cried.
Izuku squeezed his eyes shut. Ten years of
terror. Ten years of viewing himself as a monster. Thirteen’s speech echoed in
his ears. You must learn to use your powers to save, not to destroy.
He couldn't use his Stun Baton mode. It
required too much concentration to maintain the magnetic field over the plasma
density, and if a villain surprised him and broke his concentration, the
construct would collapse back into a lethal blade mid-swing. It was too risky
in a chaotic, multi-target brawl.
I can't fight them, Izuku realized. If I fight
them with my quirk, I will become a murderer.
Izuku opened his eyes. A fierce, emerald light
sparked in his irises.
So I won't fight them. I'll fight their
weapons.
"Tsu," Izuku said, his voice
dropping an octave, losing its characteristic tremble. He reached down to his
right wrist and unclasped the heavy inhibitor glove, letting it fall onto the
rusted deck. He did the same with his left. "Can you jump all the way to
the central plaza from here?"
"With my leg strength, yes," Tsuyu
nodded. "But not while carrying both of you."
"You don't need to carry me," Izuku
said, turning to face the water. He took a deep breath, centering his center of
gravity, recalling the countless hours of martial arts training with All Might
on the beach. "Mineta. Your quirk. The balls on your head. Are they sticky
to everything?"
"Y-Yeah! Except me!" Mineta
whimpered.
"When I jump, I want you to throw as many
as you can into the water," Izuku commanded.
"You're jumping in?!" Tsuyu asked,
her eyes widening. "Midoriya, you just said—"
"I'm not going to touch them," Izuku
said, rolling his bare shoulders. "I'm just going to take away their
ability to hurt us."
Izuku leaped off the railing.
He didn't dive into the water. He used a
micro-burst of his quirk—igniting the blades for a millisecond—to create a
thermal shockwave beneath his feet, keeping him airborne, hovering just inches
above the surface of the churning water.
"The kid's coming down!" one of the
villains yelled, a burly man with a massive steel cutlass. "Slice him
up!"
Izuku fell into the center of the villain
ring. As he descended, Mineta began hurling his purple spheres into the water.
Three villains lunged at Izuku simultaneously.
One thrust a spear, one swung the cutlass, and another aimed a high-caliber
handgun.
Izuku exhaled. He didn't ignite the massive,
roaring three-foot blades he used at the entrance exam. He channeled the energy
precisely, forming an incredibly tight, dense containment field.
Vwum.
From the center of his bare palms, two tiny,
brilliantly glowing emerald daggers of plasma erupted. They were barely six
inches long.
The heat was contained, the hum was a
high-pitched whine.
The villain thrust the steel spear at Izuku’s
chest.
Izuku didn't dodge. Relying on his physical
training, he parried. He stepped into the villain's guard, bringing his right
hand up. The six-inch plasma dagger intercepted the thick steel shaft of the
spear.
There was no clash of metal. There was no
resistance. The superheated plasma passed through the steel shaft like it was
empty air. The tip of the spear fell into the water with a plop, the cut end
glowing molten orange.
The villain froze, staring at the cleanly
severed, bubbling metal in his hands.
Before he could process it, Izuku pivoted,
spinning on his heel. The cutlass came down toward his shoulder. Izuku brought
his left hand up in a sweeping arc. The plasma dagger sliced through the thick,
broad blade of the cutlass diagonally.
The top half of the sword vaporized instantly,
showering the villain in a harmless burst of sparks as the ruined weapon
collapsed into slag.
"What the hell?!" the swordsman
screamed, dropping the molten hilt.
The third villain, the one with the handgun,
panicked and pulled the trigger.
Izuku’s eyes tracked the subtle movement of
the man's finger. Izuku stepped sideways, letting the bullet graze past him,
and lashed out with his right hand. He didn't aim for the man. He aimed for the
gun.
The six-inch plasma dagger sheared cleanly
through the barrel and the cylinder of the handgun. The weapon fell apart in
the villain's hands in two perfectly flat pieces, the gunpowder inside flashing
harmlessly into smoke.
Three armed villains. Disarmed in less than
two seconds. Without a single drop of blood spilled.
Izuku stood in the shallow water atop a
submerged piece of debris, the twin green daggers humming menacingly from his
palms. The intense heat radiating from the tiny blades was making the water
around his feet begin to boil and steam, cloaking him in a thin, ethereal mist.
"Listen to me," Izuku said, his
voice echoing over the water. It wasn't the voice of a timid schoolboy. It was
the voice of a cornered force of nature. "My quirk deletes physical matter
at tens of thousands of degrees. If I make these blades any longer, or if you
touch them, you will lose whatever body part makes contact. Permanently."
The villains froze, treading water. The sheer
psychological terror of watching their steel weapons turn to butter without
Izuku even straining himself was paralyzing.
"He's bluffing!" a villain in the
back yelled. "He's just a kid! Rush him!"
Two more villains swam forward. But as they
did, they collided with the purple spheres Mineta had scattered. Instantly,
they were stuck to each other and to the floating debris, thrashing helplessly.
Izuku didn't wait for the rest to make a move.
He went on the offensive.
He didn't use the blades to strike. He used
them for psychological warfare. He dashed across the floating debris, a blur of
motion and green light. A villain tried to swing a metal pipe; Izuku severed it
an inch from the man's hand. Another villain tried to shoot a net-gun; Izuku
sliced the barrel off before it could fire.
He moved with terrifying, surgical precision.
He was playing a dangerous game of operation, cutting millimeters away from
their flesh, destroying only their tools. The intense heat passing so close to
their skin left them sweating, terrified, and acutely aware that their lives
were entirely dependent on the teenager’s absolute restraint.
Within ninety seconds, the remaining free
villains were scrambling backward in the water, holding up their empty hands,
absolutely terrified of the glowing green daggers.
"We surrender!" the swordsman
yelled, paddling backward furiously. "Just keep those things away from
us!"
Izuku willed the quirk off. The daggers
vanished with a sharp hiss. He let out a shaky breath, his legs trembling
slightly from the adrenaline dump. He had done it. He had fought humans, and he
hadn't hurt a single one.
"Tsu! Now!" Izuku yelled, looking up
at the ship.
Tsuyu grabbed Mineta, crouched low on the
railing, and launched herself into the air with incredible frog-like leg
strength, soaring over the water. She fired her tongue out, wrapping it around
Izuku's waist, and pulled him along as they sailed across the zone, landing
safely on the concrete edge of the central plaza.
Izuku hit the ground, rolling to absorb the
impact. He quickly pulled his inhibitor gloves out of his pockets and strapped
them back onto his wrists. He needed the physical barrier. He couldn't risk
accidentally igniting the blade now that he was back on solid, dry ground.
"That was amazing, Midoriya!" Mineta
cried, hugging the ground. "You totally psyched them out!"
"Are you okay?" Tsuyu asked,
noticing Izuku's heavy breathing.
"I'm fine," Izuku said, wiping sweat
from his forehead. "We need to figure out what's happening in the
plaza."
The three students crept forward, peeking over
the edge of a concrete planter box into the massive central fountain area.
What Izuku saw made his blood freeze in his
veins.
The villains were decimated, lying groaning on
the floor. But Aizawa was not victorious.
The hulking, bird-brained monster—the Nomu—was
straddling Aizawa. It had Aizawa’s arms gripped in its massive, grey hands.
With a sickening CRUNCH, the monster snapped both of Aizawa’s arms like dry
twigs.
Aizawa screamed, a raw, agonizing sound that
tore at Izuku’s heart. The Nomu then slammed Aizawa’s head into the concrete
floor, shattering the pavement and leaving the teacher a bloody, broken mess.
"Sensei!" Izuku gasped,
instinctively gripping the concrete planter so hard his fingers bruised.
"Eraserhead," the hand-covered
villain, Shigaraki, said softly, scratching at his own neck furiously.
"You're so cool. You're so strong. But against the anti-Symbol of Peace,
you're just a normal human."
Shigaraki turned his head, looking directly at
the planter box where Izuku, Tsuyu, and Mineta were hiding.
"More kids," Shigaraki rasped.
"Kurogiri, you let some slip through."
Before Izuku could react, Shigaraki moved with
horrifying speed, crossing the distance in an instant. He lunged over the
planter, his hand outstretched, his fingers spread wide.
He reached directly for Tsuyu’s face.
No! Izuku’s mind screamed. He tried to move,
tried to reach for his gloves to take them off, but he was too slow. Shigaraki
was right there.
Shigaraki’s hand clamped over Tsuyu’s face.
Izuku’s heart stopped. He waited for the
blood, for the decay.
Nothing happened.
Shigaraki blinked, looking back. Down on the
floor, heavily bleeding and barely conscious, Aizawa had lifted his head, his
glowing red eyes locked onto Shigaraki through the gap in his hair, erasing the
villain's quirk.
"You really are cool, Eraserhead,"
Shigaraki muttered.
Before Shigaraki could try again, the massive
steel doors at the entrance of the USJ blew completely off their hinges,
crashing to the ground with a deafening roar.
Dust billowed into the dome. Standing in the
doorway, stripped of his usual smile, was All Might.
"IT IS FINE NOW," All Might
declared, his voice lacking any of its usual cheer. It was entirely filled with
raw, unadulterated fury. "I AM HERE."
In the blink of an eye, All Might crossed the
plaza. He struck Shigaraki, sending the villain tumbling backward, and scooped
up Aizawa, Izuku, Tsuyu, and Mineta, carrying them away from the fountain in a
blur of speed.
"Everybody, back to the entrance!"
All Might ordered, setting them down gently. "Take Aizawa with you!"
"All Might, wait!" Izuku yelled,
looking back at the Nomu. "That brain villain... he's different!
Aizawa-sensei couldn't do anything to him!"
"Do not worry, Young Midoriya!" All
Might said, flashing a confident thumbs-up. "I am the Number One
Hero!"
All Might charged the Nomu. He crossed his
arms and delivered a devastating 'Carolina Smash' right across the creature’s
chest. The impact sounded like a bomb going off.
The Nomu didn't flinch. It didn't even take a
step back.
"It didn't work?" All Might grunted
in surprise.
The Nomu grabbed All Might by the waist and
slammed him into the concrete. A brutal, earth-shattering brawl ensued. All
Might unleashed a flurry of punches—hundreds of them—each one packing enough
force to level a building. But the Nomu just took them, matching All Might blow
for blow.
"It's useless!" Shigaraki laughed,
scratching his neck. "Nomu has Shock Absorption! Your blunt-force physical
attacks won't work on him, All Might! And even if you manage to do damage, he
has Super Regeneration! He was bio-engineered specifically to tank you until
you tire out!"
Izuku, halfway to the exit while helping carry
Aizawa, stopped dead in his tracks.
Shock Absorption. Super Regeneration.
Izuku’s hyper-analytical brain went into
overdrive. He watched as All Might managed to tear a chunk of flesh off the
Nomu’s arm, only for the wound to violently bubble and knit back together in
seconds, completely healed.
Shock absorption negates kinetic impact.
Regeneration repairs damaged cellular structure, Izuku thought, his eyes wide.
He looked down at his heavy inhibitor gloves.
My quirk has zero kinetic mass. It’s pure
energy. It can't be absorbed. And if I cut through flesh... the intense heat
flash-cauterizes the wound instantly. The cells are burned and permanently
sealed at thousands of degrees. They can't divide. They can't regenerate.
Izuku looked up. Kurogiri, the warp gate, had
managed to open a portal beneath All Might. The Nomu was currently dragging All
Might down into the portal, holding the hero by his weak point—the massive scar
on his side. All Might was struggling, blood pouring from his mouth, his
strength failing against the bio-engineered monster.
They're going to tear him in half, Izuku
realized with absolute horror. They are going to kill the Symbol of Peace.
"Midoriya! What are you doing?!"
Mineta screamed as Izuku gently lowered Aizawa’s legs to the ground.
"Tsu, take Sensei to the exit,"
Izuku said, his voice entirely devoid of fear. It was replaced by a cold,
terrifying resolve.
"Midoriya, you can't!" Tsuyu
croaked, reaching for him.
Izuku didn't listen. He turned around and
ripped the inhibitor glove off his left hand, tossing it aside. He ripped the
glove off his right hand.
He didn't run. He sprinted, drawing upon every
ounce of physical strength All Might had trained into his legs.
"All Might!" Izuku roared, his voice
echoing through the massive dome.
Shigaraki turned, sneering at the boy charging
toward them. "Oh, the heroic student wants to die first? Nomu, let the
boss go for a second. Squash the bug."
The Nomu complied, releasing All Might, who
collapsed onto the concrete, gasping for air. The hulking, bird-brained monster
turned its dead eyes toward the sprinting teenager and charged, raising a
massive, tree-trunk-sized fist to turn Izuku into a red paste on the pavement.
"Young Midoriya, NO!" All Might
screamed, reaching out weakly. "HE HAS SHOCK ABSORPTION!"
"I know!" Izuku yelled back.
Izuku didn't slow down. He didn't try to
dodge. He ran directly into the path of the colossal fist.
They engineered a monster specifically to
survive All Might, Izuku thought, staring into the dead, unblinking eyes of the
Nomu. A monster designed to survive blunt force.
Izuku brought his bare hands up, pointing his
palms directly at the descending fist of the Nomu.
Let's see how it handles a weapon designed for
absolute destruction.
Izuku shattered his limiters. He poured
everything into his palms, maximizing both the heat and the containment field.
VWUMMMMM-KRAK!
The oscillating roar of the plasma blades
shook the very air inside the USJ. The sound was so intense it hurt the ears of
everyone present. From Izuku’s hands, two massive, three-foot-long, brilliantly
blinding emerald blades erupted. The localized heat was so extreme that the
concrete beneath Izuku’s feet instantly began to crack and turn glassy.
The Nomu’s fist slammed downward.
But it didn't hit Izuku.
Izuku crossed his blades upward in an 'X'
block, intercepting the massive, meaty forearm of the monster.
The Nomu possessed Shock Absorption. But there
was no physical impact to absorb.
The twin plasma blades passed through the
Nomu’s heavily muscled forearm with zero resistance. The sound was horrifying—a
massive, sizzling hiss of flash-boiling fluids and vaporized flesh.
Izuku stepped through the strike, separating
his arms in a wide, horizontal scissor motion.
The Nomu’s massive right arm, cleanly severed
just above the elbow, fell to the ground behind Izuku.
Silence fell over the plaza. Even the roar of
the plasma blades seemed to quiet down into a menacing thrum.
Shigaraki’s jaw dropped. The hand covering his
face slipped slightly. "What?"
The Nomu stumbled forward, confused. It looked
down at the stump where its arm used to be. It had felt no pain, as the intense
heat had instantly destroyed all the nerve endings.
"Nomu! Super Regeneration! Grow it back
and crush him!" Shigaraki shrieked, panic finally leaking into his voice.
The Nomu’s muscles flexed. It tried to push
cellular growth to the stump.
Nothing happened.
The end of the Nomu’s severed arm was glowing
a dull cherry-red. The flesh, muscle, bone, and blood vessels had been
subjected to tens of thousands of degrees in a fraction of a second. The wound
was perfectly, flawlessly cauterized. Fused shut. Burnt beyond the capability
of cellular division. The Super Regeneration had nothing to work with; to the
quirk's logic, the wound was already "healed" and sealed by the
burns.
The arm was gone forever.
Izuku stood his ground, the twin green blades
humming in his hands, casting a harsh, emerald light over his freckled face.
His eyes were hard, locked onto the creature.
"Regeneration requires living cells to
divide," Izuku stated coldly, his voice carrying across the silent plaza.
"My blades burn at fifty thousand degrees. There are no living cells left
on that wound."
Shigaraki took a step back, visibly trembling.
He began to scratch his neck so furiously that blood welled up under his
fingernails.
"That's... that's impossible!"
Shigaraki screamed, his gamer logic completely shattering. "That's an
anti-matter quirk! That's a glitched cheat code! You can't just bypass the
boss's stats like that! That's not fair! That's an instant-kill admin
abuse!"
"Nomu, kill him!" Shigaraki ordered
desperately. "Use your other arm!"
The Nomu, lacking higher brain functions and
completely incapable of fear, swung its remaining left arm in a devastating
horizontal arc toward Izuku’s head.
Izuku didn't even blink. He raised his right
hand vertically.
The Nomu’s left arm struck the unmoving plasma
blade.
Hiss!
The left arm dropped to the floor, severed
cleanly at the wrist, instantly cauterized.
The Nomu swung again with its stump. Izuku
brought his left blade up, slicing through the creature’s knee joint. The
massive leg collapsed, the wound fused shut, and the towering monster fell to
the ground, entirely disabled, physically unable to regenerate its lost limbs,
reduced to a thrashing, harmless lump of bio-engineered muscle.
It took Izuku Midoriya exactly four swings to
completely dismantle the monster designed to kill God.
Izuku turned his gaze toward Shigaraki and
Kurogiri. He didn't take a step toward them. He didn't need to. He simply held
the glowing emerald blades at his sides, the heat warping the air around him,
making him look like a terrifying, vengeful spirit of neon fire.
"Your monster is broken," Izuku
said, his voice deadly calm. "Leave. Now."
Shigaraki stared at the boy in absolute,
unadulterated horror. He looked at the disabled Nomu, then at the severed limbs
lying on the ground, smoking and glowing. The reality of the situation crashed
down on him. If that boy swung those blades at him, he would cease to exist.
"Kurogiri," Shigaraki rasped, his
voice trembling as he backed away. "Get us out of here. Game over. This
server... this server is broken. We have to go back and patch the game."
"Yes, Tomura Shigaraki," Kurogiri
said, a hint of genuine fear in his usually polite tone.
The purple fog enveloped the two villains, and
in an instant, they were gone.
The warp gate vanished. The central plaza was
silent, save for the crackling of the broken concrete and the deep hum of
Izuku's quirk.
Slowly, carefully, Izuku pulled the energy
back into his chest. The electromagnetic fields collapsed, and the brilliant
green blades vanished with a sharp hiss.
The adrenaline that had been keeping him
upright evaporated.
The sheer physical toll of generating that
much heat, combined with the psychological weight of what he had just done,
crashed into him like a freight train. His arms felt like they were submerged
in molten lead. His knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the hard concrete,
gasping for air, staring at his bare, slightly blistered hands.
I cut it, Izuku thought, his mind spinning. I
severed its limbs. I used it the way I promised I wouldn't.
A massive, warm hand rested gently on his
shoulder.
Izuku looked up. All Might was kneeling beside
him, having reverted to his skeletal form, entirely hidden from the view of the
other students by the debris. The hero was coughing up blood, but his eyes were
filled with an overwhelming, profound pride.
"You promised you wouldn't use it to take
a life, Young Midoriya," All Might said softly, reading the boy's
terrified thoughts. "You didn't take a life. That creature was not truly
alive. It was a weapon. And you disarmed it."
All Might pulled Izuku into a weak, but
comforting hug.
"You saved me, my boy. You used the sword
to become the ultimate shield. I have never been prouder."
Izuku buried his face in All Might's chest and
finally let the tears fall, the tension of the day breaking as the heavy,
resounding booms of the U.A. faculty bursting through the doors echoed
throughout the dome.
The villains were defeated. The Symbol of
Peace was safe. And Izuku Midoriya, the boy cursed with an unstoppable weapon,
had proven that he could wield it to protect the world.
