What If Deku Had an Overpowered T-Rex Quirk for Close-Quarters Combat
The air above the neighborhood playground shimmered with the intense heat of a late July afternoon, carrying with it the innocent sounds of children laughing, the squeak of a rusty swing set, and the sharp, sudden scent of burning caramel.
Izuku Midoriya was four years old. He was a
small boy, possessing a mop of unruly green curls, large, expressive eyes that
always seemed on the verge of spilling over with tears, and a heart that beat
entirely too fast for his slight frame. He stood trembling in the sandbox, his
small arms spread wide in a desperate, trembling barricade. Behind him cowered
another child, weeping softly, nursing a scraped knee.
In front of him stood Katsuki Bakugo.
Even at four years old, Katsuki was a force of
nature. He was the undisputed king of their small world, crowned by a Quirk
that allowed him to secrete nitroglycerin-like sweat from his palms and
detonate it at will. Small, firecracker pops exploded in the palms of his
hands, illuminating his arrogant, triumphant smirk. Two lackeys stood behind
Katsuki, sneering with borrowed bravado.
"You're so annoying, Deku," Katsuki
mocked, taking a step forward. The wet, popping sounds grew louder.
"You're Quirkless. A nobody. What are you going to do? You can't even
protect yourself."
Izuku’s bottom lip quivered. Tears tracked
through the dust on his cheeks. "I-I won't let you hurt him anymore,
Kacchan! If you keep going, I'll... I'll stop you myself!"
Katsuki’s smirk widened into a feral grin.
"Try it, Deku!"
He lunged. Katsuki’s right hand pulled back, a
spark igniting in his palm, aimed directly at Izuku’s chest. Izuku squeezed his
eyes shut, his entire body bracing for the burning pain, the impact, the
inevitable humiliation.
But the pain never came.
Instead, a strange, suffocating heat blossomed
deep within Izuku’s chest. It didn’t feel like Katsuki’s fire. It felt ancient.
It felt heavy. It started at the base of his spine and shot upward like a
geyser of molten lead, flooding his nervous system with an sensation he had
never experienced before, and one he had no words to describe.
It was survival. It was supremacy.
Izuku’s eyes snapped open. The emerald irises
had vanished, replaced by a pair of slitted, reptilian pupils glowing with a
predatory, amber light.
Time seemed to slow down. Katsuki’s hand was
inches away, the explosion just beginning to bloom. But as the heat licked
Izuku’s skin, something spectacular and terrifying occurred. A ripple of dark
green, microscopic scales flared across Izuku’s arms and chest—a biological
armor manifesting in a fraction of a millisecond. The explosion washed over
him, a harmless wave of warm air against an impenetrable defense.
Katsuki’s smirk faltered. His crimson eyes
widened in confusion as his hand bounced off Izuku’s chest with a dull, heavy
thud, as if he had just punched a solid block of tungsten.
Izuku didn't cry. He didn't speak.
Deep within his throat, a vocal cord structure
that had lay dormant in human DNA for sixty-five million years suddenly
shifted, elongating and thickening. Izuku opened his mouth. He didn't mean to
do it. He didn't even know what he was doing.
He inhaled, his small chest expanding to an
impossible width, drawing in the hot summer air, and then, he let it out.
It wasn't a scream. It was a roar.
The sound that erupted from the four-year-old
boy defied physics. It was a guttural, earth-shaking, sub-bass vibration that
struck the ears like a physical blow. It was the roar of an apex predator, a
sonic shockwave that tore through the playground.
The sand in the sandbox violently exploded
outward, blasted away by the acoustic pressure. The leaves on the oak trees
violently shook, dozens of them detaching and flying into the air. The heavy
metal chains of the swing set groaned and clattered wildly against their
frames.
Katsuki Bakugo took the brunt of the sonic
force point-blank. The sheer volume and primal resonance of the sound bypassed
his eardrums and struck the primal center of his brain—the part of the brain
that recognized a predator.
Katsuki was blown backward off his feet,
landing hard on his back on the grass. His lackeys were already screaming,
scrambling over the playground fence, running for their lives. The boy Izuku
had been protecting shrieked and sprinted in the opposite direction.
The roar faded into a low, rattling growl that
vibrated in Izuku’s chest. He blinked. The amber color faded from his eyes,
replaced by his normal, tear-filled green irises. The microscopic scales
retreated beneath his skin. He looked down at his hands, entirely confused,
before looking up at his childhood friend.
Katsuki was still on the ground. The boy who
was afraid of nothing, the boy who claimed he would be the number one hero, was
frozen. His chest heaved. His crimson eyes were locked onto Izuku, the pupils
blown wide in absolute, pants-wetting terror. Katsuki scrambled backward like a
crab, his hands slipping on the grass, unable to tear his eyes away from the
green-haired boy.
"K-Kacchan?" Izuku murmured,
stepping forward, his voice a soft, innocent squeak once more. "Are you
okay?"
"Stay away from me!" Katsuki
screamed, his voice cracking. He scrambled to his feet, nearly tripping over
his own shoes, and bolted down the street, not looking back.
Izuku stood alone in the empty, silent
playground, the dust settling around him. He didn't feel triumphant. He didn't
feel like a hero. He just felt terribly, terribly alone.
Ten Years Later.
Aldera Junior High was an ordinary school,
filled with ordinary students who possessed, for the most part, remarkably
ordinary Quirks. Stretchy fingers, the ability to change hair color, minor
telekinesis—the standard genetic lottery of the modern era.
Izuku Midoriya, however, stood out. He could
not help it.
At fourteen years old, Izuku was a physical
anomaly. While most boys his age were lanky, awkward, and growing into their
bodies, Izuku had already grown out of his. He stood a towering six feet, two
inches tall. Beneath his heavily modified, custom-tailored school uniform was a
physique that looked like it had been carved from granite. His shoulders were
impossibly broad, his chest barrel-thick, and his legs were thick, powerful
columns of dense, coiled muscle.
He was a hulking, intimidating mass of a
teenager. And yet, his posture entirely contradicted his biology.
Izuku sat at his desk in the back of the
classroom, hunched over as far as his massive frame would allow. He kept his
knees pressed tightly together, his broad shoulders rolled forward in a
desperate attempt to make himself look smaller, less threatening. His massive,
calloused hands delicately gripped a small, standard-issue mechanical pencil,
moving rapidly across the pages of a worn notebook titled Hero Analysis for the
Future, Vol. 13.
"...and so, with Mt. Lady's
gigantification Quirk, her area of effect is massive, but she limits herself to
wide avenues to minimize structural damage. However, her center of gravity
shifts dangerously when she..." Izuku muttered under his breath, his voice
a rapid, barely audible stream of analytical data.
He was gentle. He was a nerd. He was polite to
a fault, always the first to apologize if someone bumped into him, always the
first to step aside in the hallway.
But his classmates still gave him a wide
berth. They couldn't help it. There was something deeply, instinctively
unsettling about Izuku Midoriya. It wasn't just his size. It was the way his
golden-flecked green eyes occasionally tracked movement with the terrifying,
predatory efficiency of a raptor. It was the way the floorboards subtly groaned
under his immense weight when he walked.
His Quirk was officially registered as
"Apex Tyrant"—a Mutant/Transformation hybrid that bestowed upon him
the biology of a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
He hated it.
Izuku didn't want to be a dinosaur. He didn't
want to be a monster. He wanted to be a hero like All Might. All Might saved
people with a brilliant, reassuring smile. All Might made people feel safe.
Izuku’s Quirk made people cross the street when they saw him walking toward
them.
The predatory instincts that came with the
Quirk were the worst part. There was a constant, low-level thrum of aggression
in the back of his mind, a biological imperative to dominate, to hunt, to
crush. He spent every waking second of his life fighting it, clamping down on
his instincts with an iron will. He studied martial arts—Taekwondo and Muay
Thai—not to learn how to fight, but to learn discipline. To learn how to move
his monstrous body with precision and restraint. He never allowed himself to
get angry. Anger was the key that unlocked the cage.
"Alright, settle down, class," the
homeroom teacher sighed, walking to the front of the room with a stack of
papers. "Since you're all third years, it's time to start thinking
seriously about your futures. I'll pass out handouts for your future plans now,
but... you're all pretty much planning to go into the hero course, right?"
The classroom erupted into cheers. Quirks
flashed—small fires, elongating limbs, glowing eyes.
"Yes, yes, you all have wonderful
Quirks," the teacher chuckled, tossing the papers into the air. "But
remember, using your powers in school is against the rules!"
"Sensei! Don't lump me in with these
losers!"
The loud, arrogant voice cut through the
chatter like a knife. Katsuki Bakugo leaned back in his chair, his feet kicked
up on his desk. He was leaner than Izuku, but his muscles were corded with
explosive tension. He wore a smirk on his face, but his crimson eyes were
sharp, darting, and incredibly defensive.
The class groaned, muttering insults, but
Katsuki ignored them.
"I've got the best grades in this
school," Katsuki declared, his hands sparking. "I aced the mock test.
I'm the only one here who has a real shot at UA High School. I'm going to
surpass All Might and become the top hero, and it all starts by leaving you
extras in the dirt!"
"Oh, right," the teacher looked at
his clipboard. "Midoriya, you're also applying for UA, aren't you?"
The classroom went dead silent.
All eyes slowly turned to the back of the
room, looking at the hulking teenager hunched over his notebook. Izuku froze,
his pencil snapping perfectly in half between his massive fingers. He shrank
down further, a nervous sweat breaking out on his brow.
"A-Ah... yes. I am," Izuku mumbled,
his voice deep but incredibly timid.
The class didn't laugh. In canon, they would
have mocked the Quirkless boy. But here, no one dared laugh at Izuku Midoriya.
Instead, there was a tense, uncomfortable silence.
SLAM!
Katsuki’s palm slammed onto his desk,
detonating a small explosion that shattered his desk in half. He stood up, his
chair clattering backward. He didn't look at Izuku with superiority; he looked
at him with a volatile mix of fury and deep-seated paranoia.
Ever since the playground incident ten years
ago, Katsuki’s relationship with Izuku had fundamentally changed. Katsuki was a
genius. He was powerful. But no matter how strong his explosions got, he could
never forget the feeling of his attack bouncing harmlessly off Izuku’s chest,
nor the primal terror of that roar. Katsuki didn't bully Izuku out of a belief
that Izuku was weak. He provoked Izuku because he was terrified that Izuku was
stronger, and Katsuki’s ego demanded that he constantly prove his dominance
against the apex predator in the room.
"Listen up, Deku!" Katsuki snarled,
pointing a smoking finger at the giant boy. "You think you can just waltz
into UA? You think just because you're a freak of nature, you're better than
me? I'm the one who's going to be number one! You're just a brainless
monster!"
Izuku flinched, the word monster striking him
like a physical blow. He raised his large hands defensively, his palms facing
outward.
"N-No, Kacchan! That's not it at
all!" Izuku stammered, his eyes wide. "I don't think I'm better than
you! I know you're amazing. Your Quirk is incredible, and your combat sense is
genius. I just... I've wanted to be a hero since I was little. It's just my
goal. I'm not trying to compete with you..."
Katsuki’s eyes twitched. The placating, gentle
tone enraged him even more because it felt like pity. It felt like the predator
was humoring the prey.
"Don't give me that patronizing
crap!" Katsuki roared, leaping over his broken desk and storming toward
Izuku. The other students instinctively scrambled out of the way. "Stop looking
down on me! I'll blow that scaly armor of yours into pieces!"
Izuku didn't move. He just looked at Katsuki
with sad, gentle eyes. He knew that if he stood up, he would tower over Katsuki
by nearly five inches. He knew that if he flexed, his hidden dermal armor would
manifest and shatter Katsuki's hands on impact. So, he did nothing. He remained
hunched, taking the verbal abuse, burying the low, guttural growl that his
biology desperately wanted to release.
"Enough, Bakugo," the teacher
finally intervened, though his voice lacked real authority. "Take your
seat. Both of you."
Katsuki glared at Izuku for a few more
seconds, his breathing heavy, before clicking his tongue and turning away.
"Watch your back, Deku. The entrance exam isn't going to favor a lumbering
beast."
Izuku sighed, picking up the two halves of his
broken pencil. He's right, Izuku thought miserably. A hero is supposed to
inspire hope. What kind of hope does a giant, terrifying lizard inspire?
The school day ended, and Izuku took his usual
route home. He preferred walking through the city rather than taking the train.
The walking helped burn off the excess kinetic energy his massive muscles
naturally produced.
He walked with his head down, his yellow
backpack looking comically small against his broad back. He was taking a
shortcut through a gloomy, graffiti-covered underpass. The rhythmic sound of
his heavy footsteps echoed off the concrete walls. It was quiet, save for the
distant hum of traffic.
Izuku’s ears twitched.
His hearing was far beyond human. He paused,
his combat boots coming to a halt. He heard a wet, squelching sound, followed
by the faint scrape of metal, like a manhole cover being pushed aside. Then
came the smell. Izuku’s olfactory senses were devastatingly acute. The stench
hit him like a physical wall—raw sewage, rotting garbage, and the metallic tang
of dried blood.
Villain, his brain calculated instantly.
Prey, his biology whispered.
Izuku shook his head violently, banishing the
predatory thought. He turned around, his eyes scanning the dim tunnel.
From the open manhole behind him, a massive,
gelatinous mass of dark green sludge was pulling itself out of the sewer. It
bubbled and shifted, a pair of large, manic eyes and a jagged mouth floating
within the viscous liquid.
"Well, well, what do we have here?"
the Sludge Villain gurgled, his voice a wet, echoing rasp. "A medium-sized
meat suit. A little bulky for my tastes, but begging beggars can't be choosers!
You'll make a perfect invisibility cloak for me to hide from that
bastard!"
Izuku took a step back, his heart rate
spiking. Not out of fear for his life, but out of fear of what he might do.
"Stay back," Izuku warned, his deep voice echoing in the tunnel.
"I don't want to hurt you."
The villain laughed, a sickening, bubbly
sound. "Hurt me? Kid, I'm fluid! You can't punch a liquid! Now hold still,
this will only hurt for about forty-five seconds!"
The Sludge Villain lunged like a striking
cobra, throwing a massive wave of toxic sludge directly at Izuku.
Izuku’s reflexes were superhuman, but he
hesitated. If he dodged, the villain might escape and hurt someone else. If he
fought back, he might accidentally kill the man. In that split second of
hesitation, the sludge slammed into him, wrapping around his large body like a
wet, suffocating blanket.
"Gotcha!" the villain cheered, the
sludge rapidly climbing up Izuku’s chest, aiming for his nose and mouth.
"Just let me take over, kid! It's easier if you don't struggle!"
The sludge forced its way toward Izuku’s face,
attempting to plunge down his throat to drown him from the inside.
But Izuku Midoriya was not a normal human.
The moment the sludge made contact with his
skin and applied hostile pressure, Izuku’s Quirk passively activated. It was an
autonomic defense mechanism, no different than a human blinking to protect
their eyes.
Beneath his school uniform, millions of
microscopic, emerald-green scales flared, locking together like the
interlocking plates of medieval armor, but infinitely denser. His skin turned
into an impenetrable, biologically engineered fortress. Furthermore, his
muscles instantly seized in a defensive lock, turning his body as rigid as a
statue carved from diamond.
The Sludge Villain tried to constrict,
attempting to crush the boy's ribs.
Crack.
The villain gasped in shock. The sludge
couldn't compress the boy. It felt like trying to squeeze a solid pillar of
titanium. Worse, the sludge that was trying to force its way into Izuku’s nose
and mouth suddenly hit a literal wall. Izuku had snapped his jaws shut. The
bite force of an adult T-Rex is estimated at around 12,000 pounds. Izuku’s jaw
muscles, refined by human density and mutant enhancement, locked his mouth with
a pressure exceeding 15,000 psi.
The sludge slammed into Izuku’s lips and was
instantly repelled, unable to pry his mouth open even a millimeter.
"What the hell?!" the villain
shrieked, panic creeping into his voice. "Open your mouth! Open it!"
The villain shoved a tendril of sludge toward
Izuku’s nostrils. Izuku’s nasal passages autonomously sealed themselves with a
muscular valve—a biological adaptation for holding breath underwater or
surviving dust storms.
Izuku stood perfectly still, holding his
breath, his eyes glowing amber in the dim light. He wasn't suffocating. His
lung capacity allowed him to hold his breath for nearly twenty minutes if he
didn't exert himself. He just watched the villain struggle.
"Why can't I get in?!" the villain
screamed, throwing more of his mass against the boy, trying to find a weak
point, a scrape, an open pore. There was nothing. Izuku was biologically
sealed.
Izuku felt a flicker of annoyance. He needed
to end this without breaking the law and without using lethal force. He raised
his massive arms. The sludge clinging to his biceps stretched and tore as Izuku
casually flexed his muscles. With a slow, deliberate movement, Izuku reached
up, his thick fingers digging into the core mass of the sludge wrapped around
his face.
His claws didn't fully extend, but his grip
strength was immense. He grabbed handfuls of the slime and, with a simple,
brutal exertion of his shoulders, violently tore the sludge away from his body.
"AARGH!" the villain howled as his
fluid body was forcefully separated.
Izuku threw the mass of sludge against the
tunnel wall with a sickening splat. The villain slid down the concrete,
disoriented and terrified. This kid wasn't a victim; he was a walking tank.
Izuku stood over the villain, his uniform
stained with green muck, his chest heaving slightly. The amber glow in his eyes
was blinding now. A low, terrifying growl began to rumble in his chest,
vibrating the loose pebbles on the tunnel floor.
Bite, the instinct whispered. Crush. Consume.
Izuku squeezed his eyes shut, his massive
hands flying to his head, gripping his green hair. "No!" he shouted
at himself. "Stop it! Down!"
He forced the instincts back into their cage.
The amber faded. His muscles relaxed. The invisible scales retracted. He opened
his eyes, breathing heavily, terrified of how close he had come to just biting
the villain's core in half.
The Sludge Villain, seeing the boy distracted
and apparently fighting his own demons, didn't hesitate. He slithered rapidly
toward a nearby storm drain, squeezing his liquid form through the iron grate.
"You're a freak, kid!" the villain's
echoing voice taunted from below the street. "I'll find a better meat
suit!"
Izuku stood frozen in the tunnel. He had let
the villain go. He could have easily pinned him, held him down until the police
arrived, but he was too busy fighting his own brain.
"I'm useless," Izuku whispered, his
broad shoulders slumping. "I can't even fight a villain without almost
turning into a monster."
CLANG!
The manhole cover at the end of the tunnel
suddenly blew clean off its hinges, rocketing into the ceiling. A massive,
towering figure stepped out of the sewer, glowing with an immense, radiant
energy.
"FEAR NOT, CITIZEN!" a booming,
legendary voice echoed through the underpass. "FOR I AM—"
Izuku’s jaw dropped. Standing before him, clad
in a white t-shirt and cargo pants, wiping sewage off his face with a heroic
grin, was the Number One Hero, the Symbol of Peace.
"ALL MIGHT?!" Izuku gasped, his
fanboy nature instantly overriding his melancholy.
All Might struck a pose, his blonde hair
practically gleaming in the shadows. "INDEED, YOUNG MAN! I am in pursuit
of an evildoer who escaped my grasp! Tell me, did you see a villain composed of
sludge pass this way?"
Izuku pointed a trembling, massive finger
toward the storm grate. "Y-Yes, sir! He attacked me, but I managed to
throw him off. He went down that drain about thirty seconds ago."
All Might paused, looking closely at Izuku. He
noted the boy's massive size, the sheer density of his musculature, and the
calm, unharmed state he was in despite being ambushed by a suffocation villain.
"You fought him off?" All Might
asked, a hint of genuine surprise in his booming voice. "Incredible! You
have a strong Quirk, young man! Thank you for the information! I must be off to
capture him before he harms anyone else!"
"W-Wait!" Izuku called out, taking a
step forward. He wanted to ask. He needed to ask the man he idolized more than
anyone else in the world. Can a monster like me become a hero?
But All Might was already moving. "NO
TIME TO CHAT, GOOD CITIZEN! JUSTICE WAITS FOR NO MAN! TEXAS SMASH!"
All Might punched the air, the sheer wind
pressure propelling him down the street at blinding speed, disappearing in a
blur of motion.
Izuku stood in the tunnel, his hand still
reaching out. He slowly lowered his arm, a bittersweet smile crossing his face.
He had met All Might. Even if it was only for ten seconds, it was the greatest
moment of his life.
But his smile faded as a dark thought crept
into his mind. The villain is still out there. And it's my fault.
Izuku adjusted his yellow backpack and hurried
out of the tunnel, anxious to get home.
Ten minutes later, Izuku was walking through
the Tatooin Shopping District. He was mentally drafting a new page in his
notebook about All Might's casual movement speed when a sound shattered his
concentration.
BOOM!
The ground beneath his feet trembled. Izuku
stopped, his ears swiveling slightly. The sound of an explosion. It wasn't the
deep, concussive thud of a gas line. It was sharp, crackling, and reeked of
ozone and burnt sugar.
Kacchan?
Izuku’s heart skipped a beat. He broke into a
run. Despite his massive size, he moved with terrifying speed and grace, his
powerful legs eating up the pavement in long, bounding strides. He rounded a
corner and saw a massive crowd gathered near an alleyway. Smoke billowed into
the afternoon sky, accompanied by the roar of flames.
Izuku pushed his way through the crowd.
"Excuse me. Sorry. Coming through."
He reached the front line, ducking under the
police tape. What he saw made his blood run cold.
The alley was a war zone. Fires raged on the
surrounding buildings. In the center of the chaos was the Sludge Villain. He
had grown massive, absorbing the fires around him, swirling in a chaotic storm
of toxic muck.
And trapped within the center of the sludge,
desperately struggling to breathe, was Katsuki Bakugo.
Katsuki was firing off massive explosions, his
face contorted in a mix of fury and sheer panic. But every explosion just
fueled the flames and agitated the villain, who was slowly forcing himself down
Katsuki’s throat.
"It's no use!" Death Arms, a muscular
pro hero with a strength Quirk, shouted as he tried to pull a civilian away.
"I can't get close! The fire is too intense, and I can't grab hold of that
liquid body!"
"My wood will just catch fire!"
Kamui Woods grunted, shielding his face from the heat.
"I need at least a two-lane road to
safely enlarge!" Mt. Lady complained, stomping her foot in frustration.
"Where is a hero with a water Quirk?!"
Izuku stood frozen. The heroes were doing
nothing. They were waiting for someone else with a better Quirk matchup to
arrive. They were just watching.
Izuku looked at the villain. It's him. I let
him get away. If I had just crushed him in the tunnel, this wouldn't be
happening.
Izuku’s eyes shifted to Katsuki.
Katsuki’s explosions were getting weaker. His
crimson eyes were bloodshot, tears of pain and oxygen deprivation streaming
down his face. He was suffocating. He was dying.
For a fraction of a second, Katsuki’s eyes met
Izuku’s through the flames.
Katsuki didn't look arrogant. He didn't look
angry. He looked desperate. He looked like a cornered animal realizing the trap
was closed.
Something inside Izuku Midoriya snapped.
It wasn't just the heroic desire to save a
life. It was something far older, far more primal. The biological cage Izuku
had spent fourteen years building around his instincts shattered into a million
pieces.
Katsuki was his rival. Katsuki was his
childhood friend. In the bizarre, twisted logic of a dinosaur's brain, Katsuki
was his pack. Katsuki was his territory. And a lesser predator was attempting
to steal his territory.
Izuku didn't think. He moved.
His yellow backpack hit the ground. The police
line tape snapped violently as Izuku lunged forward, ignoring the shouts of the
pro heroes.
"Hey, kid! Stop! You're gonna get
yourself killed!" Death Arms roared, reaching out to grab him.
He was too slow.
As Izuku sprinted toward the raging inferno,
his body underwent a radical, terrifying metamorphosis. This was not the
partial, defensive transformation he used in the tunnel. This was his Quirk,
"Apex Tyrant," unleashed at maximum capacity.
SHHH-RRRIIIIP!
The seams of Izuku’s custom uniform exploded.
His muscles doubled, then tripled in mass, tearing through the fabric. His skin
was entirely consumed by thick, jagged, emerald-green scales that shimmered
like tempered steel in the firelight. His spine elongated violently, tearing
through the back of his pants as a massive, ten-foot-long, muscular tail
whipped into existence, acting as a flawless counterbalance.
His legs snapped backward, the bones
restructuring instantly into a digitigrade stance—the powerful, shock-absorbing
legs of a bipedal dinosaur. Three massive, scythe-like claws erupted from his
boots, digging trenches into the asphalt with every step.
His jaw pushed forward, elongating slightly,
his teeth lengthening into serrated, bone-crushing daggers.
Izuku didn't just run; he was a missile of
kinetic destruction. The ground literally cracked beneath his immense
footfalls.
"What the hell is that?!" Mt. Lady
screamed, backing away.
The Sludge Villain heard the commotion and
turned his massive, fluid head. His manic eyes widened in absolute terror as he
recognized the emerald scales.
"YOU?!" the villain shrieked.
"Stay away from me!"
The villain whipped a massive tendril of
sludge, aimed directly at Izuku's chest. It was the same attack that had
trapped Izuku in the tunnel.
This time, Izuku didn't brace for it. He
didn't defend.
He attacked.
Izuku leaped into the air, his digitigrade
legs propelling his massive, ton-heavy frame thirty feet off the ground,
entirely bypassing the sludge tendril. He soared over the flames, casting a
terrifying, prehistoric shadow over the alleyway.
Time slowed down as Izuku descended. He didn't
aim a punch. A punch was a human concept. Izuku was an apex predator.
He aimed for the eyes. The only solid part of
the villain's mass.
Izuku landed directly on the villain's main
body, his heavy, clawed feet pinning the sludge to the burning asphalt. The
villain screamed, trying to envelop Izuku’s legs, but the emerald scales were
impervious to the acidic properties of the slime.
"Let go of him!" Izuku’s voice was
no longer human. It was a guttural, vibrating snarl that rattled the windows of
the surrounding buildings.
Izuku lunged forward. His jaws unhinged
slightly, and he clamped his teeth directly over the villain's massive,
floating eyeball and the central nervous core hidden within the sludge.
CRUNCH.
Fifteen thousand pounds of per-square-inch
bite force was unleashed upon the villain's core. The villain let out a sound
that transcended pain—a high-pitched, bubbly screech of absolute agony.
Izuku didn't swallow, nor did he puncture the
core fully; his human restraint kicked in just enough to prevent murder. But
the grip was absolute. With a violent, brutal jerk of his massive neck and
shoulders, Izuku ripped the villain's core backward.
The villain's grip on Katsuki vanished
instantly as the sludge lost its structural integrity. Katsuki fell forward
onto the asphalt, coughing up slime, gasping greedily for air.
Izuku stood over his childhood friend, holding
the twitching, shrieking core of the villain in his jaws. The remaining sludge
began to pool and reform, desperately trying to reconnect with its core, rising
up in a massive, tidal wave of muck to engulf them both.
Izuku dropped the core onto the ground and
placed his heavy, clawed foot on top of it, pinning it down.
He looked at the incoming wave of sludge. He
looked at the raging fires consuming the alleyway.
He inhaled.
His massive, barrel-thick chest expanded to an
impossible size, drawing in the superheated air, the smoke, the oxygen. The
muscles in his throat constricted, vibrating like massive bass strings.
Izuku planted his feet, anchored by his
massive tail, leaned forward, and unleashed the "Tyrant Roar."
It was not sound; it was physical violence
disguised as acoustics.
A directional, supersonic shockwave erupted
from his jaws. The air in front of him visibly distorted, rippling with the
sheer kinetic force of the vibration.
The roar hit the incoming wave of sludge and
instantly atomized it. The slime didn't splatter; it was blown into a fine mist
of green rain that sprayed across the entire block. The shockwave continued
forward, striking the burning buildings. The sheer acoustic pressure snuffed
out the flames instantly, blowing out the fires like candles on a birthday
cake. The windows of the alleyway shattered inward, and the concrete walls
cracked under the invisible stress.
For three terrifying seconds, the roar drowned
out the entire world.
And then, silence.
A thick cloud of smoke and atomized sludge
rained down gently on the alleyway. The fires were gone. The villain was
scattered across a two-block radius, his core twitching weakly beneath Izuku’s
foot, completely unconscious.
Izuku stood breathing heavily, hot steam
rising from his emerald scales. The predatory rage slowly drained from his
mind, replaced immediately by crushing panic.
He looked down at Katsuki. Katsuki was on his
hands and knees, staring up at Izuku. The arrogant, explosive teenager looked
small. He looked at Izuku with a complex expression—he was alive, he had been
saved, but the sheer, overwhelming display of power he had just witnessed had
fundamentally broken his worldview.
Izuku stepped back, pulling his foot off the
villain.
I did it, Izuku thought, his heart pounding
with dread. I lost control. I let the monster out in public.
He turned toward the street. The smoke
cleared, revealing the pro heroes, the police, and the massive crowd of
civilians.
No one was cheering. No one was clapping.
They were staring at him with absolute,
unadulterated horror. Mothers were pulling their children behind them. The
police had instinctively placed their hands on their holstered weapons. Even
Death Arms and Kamui Woods were frozen, their faces pale.
Izuku’s heart shattered. This was exactly what
he had feared his entire life. He had saved someone, but he didn't look like a
hero. He looked like a villain. He looked like a Kaiju that had wandered into a
city.
The adrenaline crashed. Izuku’s body rapidly
began to shrink. The massive tail dissolved into cellular energy, retracting
into his spine. His digitigrade legs snapped back into a human structure. The
emerald scales melted away, revealing his pale, human skin.
Within seconds, the terrifying apex predator
was gone. In its place stood a fourteen-year-old boy in a shredded, ruined
school uniform, covered in green slime and soot, trembling violently.
Death Arms was the first to break the silence.
He marched forward, his face flushed with anger and embarrassment that a child
had done what he couldn't.
"What were you thinking, you reckless
idiot?!" Death Arms barked, grabbing Izuku by the shoulder. "Do you
have a death wish? Using a Quirk like that in public without a license is a
major crime! You could have killed him, or yourself, or leveled the whole
street with that sonic attack!"
Kamui Woods stepped up, his wooden face stern.
"We had the situation under control. The police were establishing a
perimeter. You interfered with official hero work. You're lucky you're just a
kid, or we'd be arresting you!"
Izuku bowed his head, staring at the ground,
tears pricking the corners of his eyes. "I-I'm sorry," he whispered,
his deep voice cracking. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to... I just... he
looked like he was dying."
On the other side of the alley, the paramedics
were loading Katsuki onto a stretcher. The pro heroes were praising him for his
"bravery" and his "incredible Quirk endurance," patting him
on the back.
Katsuki ignored them. His crimson eyes were
locked onto Izuku. He watched as the giant boy who had just casually dismantled
a villain that had defeated three pros was scolded like a disobedient dog.
Katsuki gritted his teeth, a strange, hollow feeling in his chest.
After twenty minutes of being lectured, yelled
at, and forced to give a statement to the police, Izuku was finally allowed to
leave.
He walked home alone. The sun was setting,
casting long, orange shadows over the city streets. Izuku’s shoulders were
slumped so far forward he looked like a question mark. His uniform was in
tatters, his muscles exposed to the cool evening air.
He felt empty.
It's over, he thought, tears finally spilling
down his cheeks. UA will never accept someone who causes that much property
damage. The heroes hate me. The civilians are terrified of me. Kacchan probably
hates me even more now.
He stopped at a crosswalk, waiting for the
light to change, staring blankly at the red hand symbol.
I should just give up. I should find a job in
construction. Or demolition. Somewhere they need a monster, not a hero.
"I AM HERE!"
Izuku jumped, his combat boots scraping
against the pavement.
From out of a nearby alleyway, moving with
speeds that defied the eye, a massive figure leaped into the street, striking a
dynamic, muscular pose.
"A-All Might?!" Izuku gasped, wiping
his tears away frantically. "What are you doing here? How did you lose the
press?"
All Might stood tall, his brilliant smile
shining in the twilight. "HA HA HA! Shaking off those reporters was a
piece of cake for the Symbol of Peace! I came here because I had something very
important to say to you, young man!"
Izuku braced himself. He closed his eyes. Here
it comes. The Number One Hero is going to tell me my Quirk is too dangerous.
He's going to tell me to give up.
Suddenly, a cloud of steam erupted from All
Might's body. The massive, muscular hero vanished, replaced by a skeletal,
gaunt man coughing up a disturbing amount of blood.
Izuku screamed. "GAAAAH! You deflated!
Are you an imposter?! A fake?!"
"I assure you, I am All Might," the
skeletal man sighed, wiping blood from his chin. He sat down heavily against a
streetlamp, looking exhausted. "This is my true form. An injury from a
villain fight five years ago destroyed my respiratory system and removed half
my stomach. I can only do my hero work for about three hours a day now."
Izuku stood frozen in shock. The indestructible
Symbol of Peace was broken.
Toshinori Yagi—the man behind the
muscle—looked up at the giant teenager. His sunken blue eyes were remarkably
sharp and filled with a profound sense of respect.
"Young man," Toshinori began, his
voice quiet but carrying immense weight. "I saw what you did in that
alleyway today."
Izuku flinched, looking away. "I know.
I'm sorry. I lost control. I destroyed the street. I let my instincts take
over. I... I know I can't be a hero. I'm just a monster."
"A monster?" Toshinori interrupted,
his voice raising slightly. He stood up, walking toward Izuku. He was tall, but
Izuku still had a few inches on him.
"The pro heroes who scolded you,"
Toshinori said, pointing a bony finger at Izuku's chest, "myself included,
we were all standing there. We were all calculating the risks. We were all
making excuses about Quirk compatibility and waiting for someone else to step
up. We stood by and watched a child slowly die because we were afraid to
fail."
Izuku looked up, surprised by the raw
self-loathing in the number one hero's voice.
"But you," Toshinori said, stepping
closer. "You didn't hesitate. You possessed a Quirk that clearly terrified
you, a power that you clearly try to hide from the world, and you unleashed it
anyway. Why?"
"B-Because," Izuku stammered,
thinking back to that moment. "Kacchan... he looked like he was asking for
help."
Toshinori smiled. It wasn't the boisterous,
trademark All Might grin. It was a genuine, warm smile.
"Exactly," Toshinori said softly.
"Top heroes have stories about them from their school days. Most of their
stories have one thing in common: their bodies moved before they had a chance
to think."
Toshinori placed his bony hand on Izuku’s
massive, muscular shoulder.
"You may look like a beast when you
fight, young man. Your power may be terrifying. But when you charged into that
fire, your eyes were not the eyes of a monster." Toshinori gripped Izuku's
shoulder tightly. "They were the eyes of a hero."
Izuku stopped breathing. The words hung in the
air. The words he had waited his entire life to hear. He had waited for his
mother to say them. He had waited for the world to say them.
You can be a hero.
Izuku’s massive frame crumpled. He fell to his
knees on the concrete, his face buried in his large hands, and he sobbed. He
sobbed with the ugly, loud, desperate relief of a boy who had carried the
weight of a monster on his back for ten years, only to be told the weight was
worth carrying.
Toshinori stood over him, letting the boy cry.
He looked at the sheer physical potential of the teenager. The boy already had
the body of a top-tier pro hero. But more importantly, he had the heart.
"Stand up, young man," Toshinori
said softly.
Izuku slowly rose to his feet, wiping his
eyes, towering over the skeletal hero.
"You have a terrifying power,"
Toshinori said, looking up at him. "But power is just a tool. It is the
heart that wields it that matters. You hold yourself back because you fear your
own strength. I want to help you."
Izuku’s eyes widened. "Help me?"
"You are applying for UA High School, are
you not?" Toshinori asked, a spark returning to his blue eyes.
"Y-Yes, sir!" Izuku nodded rapidly.
"But the entrance exam is in ten months. I don't know how to use my Quirk
without causing massive collateral damage or losing control of my temper."
"Then we have ten months of hard work
ahead of us," Toshinori grinned, raising a thumb. "I cannot teach you
how to be a dinosaur. But I am an expert in wielding overwhelming, catastrophic
physical power without killing people! I will teach you the control you lack. I
will teach you how to forge that monstrous strength into a shield that protects
the innocent!"
Izuku stared at him in absolute awe.
"You... you want to train me?"
"I do," Toshinori said firmly.
"If you are willing to bleed, sweat, and cry, I will help you become a
hero that doesn't just terrify villains, but one that makes the citizens feel
perfectly safe when the monster arrives to save them."
Izuku Midoriya stood on the empty street
corner, the setting sun painting the sky in vibrant shades of gold and crimson.
He looked at his massive, calloused hands. He closed his eyes, feeling the low,
primal thrum of the apex predator sleeping beneath his skin.
He didn't hate it anymore.
He clenched his fists, opening his eyes. The
green irises flashed with a brilliant, determined amber.
"I'll do it," Izuku said, his deep
voice resolute and unshaking. "I'll do whatever it takes, All Might."
Toshinori Yagi smiled. The Symbol of Peace had
found a student. The villains of Japan had no idea what was coming for them.
The era of the gentle monster was about to begin.
The air at Dagobah Municipal Beach Park was
thick with the stench of stagnant seawater, decaying kelp, and the metallic
tang of thousands of tons of rusted, illegally dumped garbage. The early
morning fog rolled in from the ocean, blanketing the mountains of broken
refrigerators, crushed cars, and shattered electronics in a damp, gray haze.
Izuku Midoriya stood at the edge of the
concrete promenade, his massive, broad-shouldered frame clad in an oversized
gray tracksuit. Even at six-foot-two and built like a professional heavyweight
boxer, he looked incredibly small against the backdrop of the apocalyptic trash
heaps.
"You brought me to a dump?" Izuku
asked, his deep voice carrying a note of genuine confusion. He looked to his
left, where a skeletal, gaunt man in an oversized yellow suit stood leaning
against the railing.
Toshinori Yagi coughed, a small speck of blood
dotting his chin, before wiping it away with the back of his hand. "It
used to be a beautiful beach, young Midoriya. But over the years, the currents
brought in trash, and people took advantage of it to illegally dump their heavy
appliances. It’s a tragic reflection of the complacency of modern
society."
Izuku tilted his head, his golden-flecked
green eyes scanning the jagged metallic peaks. "Are we... going to clean
it?"
"Eventually, yes," Toshinori said,
turning to face his new pupil. "But not in the way you might think.
Midoriya, when I watched you fight the Sludge Villain yesterday, I saw immense,
terrifying physical power. You possess a Quirk that grants you the raw
strength, durability, and kinetic output of a top-ten Pro Hero. Your body is
already a weapon."
Izuku looked down at his massive, calloused
hands, a wave of shame washing over him. "A weapon that I can't control. A
monster."
"A tool," Toshinori corrected
sharply, his sunken blue eyes flashing with stern authority. "A hammer can
build a house or shatter a skull. The hammer has no morality; only the
carpenter does. Right now, your Quirk is a wild, untamed beast because you have
spent your entire life locking it in a cage. You have tried to suppress your
biology rather than master it."
Toshinori stepped forward, poking Izuku
squarely in his dense, muscular chest. "If I were training a normal boy, I
would have him haul this trash to build his physique. But you? You could likely
lift that rusted pickup truck over your head right now if you let your scales
manifest. You do not need raw strength training, Midoriya. You need discipline.
You need precision. You need martial arts."
Izuku’s eyes widened slightly. "I've
taken martial arts classes, All Might. Taekwondo and some Muay Thai. But... I
only did it for the mental discipline. I never actually sparred with anyone. I
was too afraid I would hurt them. And when I use my Quirk... all that training
just vanishes. My brain just tells me to... to..."
Izuku swallowed hard, the phantom taste of the
Sludge Villain's core lingering in his memory. "My instincts just tell me
to bite. To crush. To consume."
"Exactly!" Toshinori clapped his
hands together, transforming in a sudden explosion of steam into his towering,
impossibly muscular All Might form. "AND THAT IS WHY WE ARE HERE, YOUNG
MAN!" All Might’s booming voice scattered the seagulls nesting in the
trash.
All Might pointed a massive finger at a
towering pile of broken washing machines and rusted microwaves. "Your
predator instincts take over because your human mind cannot process the sheer
kinetic potential of your dinosaur biology! When you transform, your brain
defaults to the only fighting style a T-Rex knows: raw, savage brutality!"
All Might dropped into a flawless, perfectly
balanced combat stance, his fists raised. "But you are not just a
dinosaur, Midoriya! You are a human! You have a brilliant, analytical mind! For
the next ten months, we are going to bridge the gap between your human
intellect and your apex biology! We are going to adapt human close-quarters
combat to a monstrous physiology!"
Izuku felt a spark of hope ignite in his
chest. "How?"
"By fighting this trash!" All Might
roared enthusiastically. "You will not lift this garbage, young Midoriya!
You will strike it! You will kick it! You will smash it! But you will do so
with perfect technique, perfect control, and without ever using your
jaws!"
All Might walked over to a rusted, solid-steel
refrigerator resting on the sand. "If you unleash your full power wildly,
you will shatter this fridge into lethal shrapnel. But if you focus, if you
concentrate your kinetic energy into a single, disciplined strike..."
All Might threw a casual, yet technically
flawless roundhouse kick. His shin struck the center of the refrigerator. The
metal didn't shatter; instead, a massive, concentrated dent caved the fridge
inward, folding it neatly in half like a piece of tin foil.
"Precision!" All Might grinned,
turning back to Izuku. "I want you to use your kicks, your elbows, your
knees, and that magnificent tail of yours to break this trash down into
manageable, condensed cubes! You will learn how much force is required to bend
steel without breaking it. You will learn how to subdue without
slaughtering!"
Izuku looked at the miles of jagged, dangerous
metal. He looked at his own hands. The fear of his own power still lingered in
his heart, a cold, heavy stone in his stomach. But looking at the Symbol of
Peace, radiating absolute confidence in him, the stone began to crack.
Izuku unzipped his gray tracksuit jacket,
tossing it onto a nearby concrete bench. Beneath it, his custom-tailored
t-shirt stretched tightly over his barrel chest.
"I'm ready," Izuku said, his voice
dropping an octave, taking on the natural, vibrating resonance of his Quirk.
"THEN LET THE FORGING OF THE APEX
BEGIN!" All Might cheered.
Months 1-3: The Anatomy of a Strike
The first three months of training were a
masterclass in frustration and pain. Not physical pain—Izuku’s passive dermal
armor made him virtually immune to the jagged edges of the trash—but mental
agony.
All Might was a relentless taskmaster when it
came to body mechanics. He forced Izuku to analyze every single movement his
body made.
"Again!" All Might shouted over the
crashing waves of the beach.
Izuku, shirtless and sweating profusely, stood
before a stack of rusted car doors. He shifted his weight, pivoting on his left
foot, and unleashed a massive right-legged roundhouse kick. The sheer force of
the blow ripped the car doors from their hinges, sending them spiraling through
the air to crash into the ocean fifty feet away.
"Too much power! Too wild!" All
Might scolded, in his skeletal form now, sitting on a lawn chair with a
megaphone. "You relied entirely on the explosive twitch-muscle fibers of
your legs! A hero in a crowded street would have just sent those car doors
flying into a crowd of civilians! You are not a cannon, Midoriya! You are a
martial artist! Control the kinetic chain!"
Izuku panted heavily, his shoulders rising and
falling. His instincts flared, a low, frustrated growl vibrating in his throat.
His jaw muscles twitched, aching with the biological imperative to just bite
the metal and tear it apart.
"Don't give in to the frustration,
Izuku," Toshinori’s voice softened, dropping the megaphone. "Close
your eyes. Feel the weight of your body. Remember your Taekwondo. The power
doesn't come from the leg; it comes from the hips. But your hips carry the weight
of a ten-foot tail."
Izuku closed his eyes. He took a deep breath,
visualizing his own anatomy. When he fought seriously, his tail naturally
manifested to balance his massive upper body. It was an appendage as thick as a
tree trunk, composed of dense muscle and heavy bone. In human martial arts, the
tail didn't exist. Taekwondo and Muay Thai were designed for bipeds with a
centralized center of gravity.
Izuku had to rewrite centuries of martial arts
theory for his own body.
He allowed his Quirk to partially manifest.
With a sickening, wet crunch of shifting biology, the base of his spine
elongated. The massive, emerald-scaled tail whipped out behind him, slamming
onto the sand with a heavy thud.
"Good," Toshinori nodded. "Now,
try a spinning back kick. But this time, use the tail as a counterbalance. Let
the momentum of the tail guide the rotation of your hips, rather than forcing
it with your leg muscles."
Izuku approached a new target—a rusted washing
machine. He settled into a fighting stance. He initiated the spin. Instead of
just twisting his torso, he violently whipped his heavy tail in the direction
of the spin. The sheer mass of the tail acting as a counterbalance caused his
body to rotate at a terrifying, blinding speed.
His right leg snapped out. His heel struck the
center of the washing machine.
CRUNCH.
There was no explosion of shrapnel. There was
no wild kinetic transfer. The washing machine simply folded violently inward,
compressed into a neat, dense cube of metal directly around Izuku’s heel. It
dropped straight down into the sand, completely subdued.
Izuku pulled his leg back, looking at the
perfect cube of metal in absolute shock.
"By the gods..." Toshinori
whispered, his eyes wide. "The rotational velocity... the kinetic transfer...
it was flawless."
Izuku looked over his shoulder at his massive,
scaly tail. For his entire life, he had viewed it as a monstrous deformity, a
sign of his inhumanity. But now, seeing how it perfectly synchronized with his
martial arts, how it stabilized his terrifying strength into localized, precise
strikes...
"It's a third pillar," Izuku
muttered, a massive smile breaking out on his face. "All Might! It's not
just a weapon, it's a stabilizer! If I use my tail to anchor my center of
gravity, I can execute kicks with zero recoil!"
"THEN KEEP KICKING, YOUNG APEX!"
Toshinori cheered, coughing up a small bit of blood but ignoring it in his
excitement.
Months 4-7: The Muay Thai Titan
Once Izuku mastered his balance and kicks, the
training shifted to his upper body. A T-Rex was famous for having uselessly
small arms. Izuku, however, was a hybrid. He possessed the massive, heavily
muscled arms of a human strongman, backed by the bone density of a dinosaur.
Toshinori realized that if Izuku threw a
standard boxing punch with his full strength, the force would likely shatter
his own human knuckles, even with his scales. The solution was Muay Thai—the
art of eight limbs.
"Your fists are for grabbing and
grappling!" Toshinori instructed, dodging a slow, telegraphed swing from
Izuku on the beach. "If you need to strike with your upper body, use your
elbows! Your radius and ulna bones are reinforced with your mutant biology!
They are biological hammers!"
Izuku adapted with terrifying speed. He
learned the "plum" (the Muay Thai clinch). He practiced grabbing
heavy appliances, locking his massive hands onto the metal, and driving his
reinforced knees and elbows into them.
The beach became a symphony of rhythmic,
deafening destruction.
BANG! A knee caved in a car engine.
CRACK! An elbow strike folded an iron beam in
half.
The predatory instincts that once terrified
Izuku began to quiet down. They weren't dead—he could still feel the primal
urge to bite and tear—but the martial arts provided a channel. By focusing
entirely on the technical perfection of his strikes, his mind remained human,
even while his body exerted prehistoric violence.
He learned to selectively manifest his scales,
hardening only his shins and forearms at the exact moment of impact to act as
organic striking pads, leaving the rest of his skin human. He was mastering the
micro-control of his Quirk.
Months 8-10: The Mind of a Hero
As the final months approached, the physical
landscape of Dagobah Beach had completely transformed. The towering mountains
of trash were gone, replaced by neat, organized stacks of densely compacted
metal cubes, ready for the city to easily haul away.
But the greatest transformation was in Izuku
himself.
He stood on the pristine white sand, looking
out at the sunrise over the ocean. He was fifteen years old now. His body had
leaned out slightly from the intense cardio, his muscles gaining a defined,
shredded, vascular look that made him appear even more intimidating. He stood
taller, no longer hunching his shoulders to hide his size.
He wore a pair of baggy martial arts pants and
no shirt. He closed his eyes, inhaling the crisp, salty air.
"Midoriya," Toshinori’s voice called
out.
Izuku turned. Toshinori was standing on the
promenade, holding a stopwatch.
"Show me," Toshinori said simply.
Izuku didn't need to ask what he meant. He
took a deep breath. He didn't fight his instincts; he embraced them, opening
the cage door just a fraction, letting the beast out under the strict
supervision of the martial artist.
Transformation.
It happened in the blink of an eye. The
emerald scales rippled across his entire body, locking together like
impenetrable chainmail. His muscles bulged, his spine shifted, and his massive
tail slammed into the sand. His jaw extended slightly, his teeth sharpening.
His eyes snapped open, glowing a brilliant, terrifying amber.
He was in his "Apex State."
But unlike the alleyway ten months ago, he
wasn't raging. He wasn't out of control. He stood perfectly still, his
breathing calm and measured. He raised his hands, settling into a flawless Muay
Thai guard, his tail swishing behind him in a rhythmic, balanced motion.
Toshinori felt a shiver run down his spine.
The creature standing before him was undeniably a monster. It was a biological
nightmare that could rip a truck in half with its teeth. But the posture, the
calm eyes, the disciplined stance... it was entirely heroic.
"Incredible," Toshinori breathed.
"You've done it, young man. You have forged the Apex."
Izuku powered down, the scales retracting, his
body returning to its human form. He smiled, a genuine, confident smile.
"I still feel the urge to bite. It's always going to be there. But... it's
just a whisper now. My human mind is the one at the steering wheel."
Toshinori walked down the steps, placing a
hand on Izuku’s shoulder. "You are ready for the UA Entrance Exam today.
Remember, the exam will test your ability to destroy robots. It will be
tempting to let loose and fight wildly. Do not. Fight like a martial artist.
Fight like a hero."
Izuku nodded firmly. "I will, All
Might."
"One last thing," Toshinori said, a
serious expression crossing his face. "I originally intended to pass my
Quirk, One For All, onto a worthy successor. I considered you."
Izuku’s eyes widened in shock. "Your
Quirk? But... you can pass it on?"
"Yes. But I have decided against it, at
least for now," Toshinori explained. "Your body is already adapting
to an incredibly powerful, complex mutation. If I introduced the explosive,
stockpiled energy of One For All into your system right now, your cells might
literally tear themselves apart trying to reconcile the two powers. You need to
prove to the world, and to yourself, that your own power is a hero's power
first."
"I understand," Izuku said, feeling
no disappointment, only immense gratitude. "I'll make you proud with my
own strength."
The Entrance Exam: Arrival
The sheer scale of UA High School's campus was
breathtaking. The massive glass and steel buildings gleamed in the morning sun,
a monument to the golden age of heroes.
Izuku walked through the front gates, wearing
his middle school uniform. Despite his best efforts to maintain a friendly
demeanor, the other applicants naturally parted like the Red Sea as he walked
through. A six-foot-two teenager built like a brick wall tends to command
immediate, instinctual respect—or fear.
"Stupid Deku."
Izuku paused. He turned to see Katsuki Bakugo
walking behind him. Katsuki’s hands were shoved deep into his pockets, his
posture aggressive, but his crimson eyes were incredibly guarded.
Since the Sludge Villain incident, Katsuki had
stopped screaming at Izuku. The loud, explosive bullying had been replaced by a
tense, volatile silence. Katsuki had seen what Izuku was capable of. He had
seen the green scales and the atomizing roar. The absolute proof of Izuku's
superiority had shattered Katsuki's fragile superiority complex, leaving behind
a burning, obsessive need to prove himself.
"Morning, Kacchan," Izuku said
politely, though he kept his distance.
Katsuki scoffed, walking past him. "Don't
think just because you're a giant freak now that you're gonna beat me. A hero
needs charisma. Needs flash. You're just a bruiser. I'm gonna get the highest
score in this exam, and I'm gonna leave you in the dirt."
Izuku watched him walk away. He didn't feel
anger; he just felt sad that their friendship had mutated into this cold war.
Thud.
"Whoa!"
Izuku snapped out of his thoughts just in time
to see a girl with short brown hair trip over her own feet, falling forward
toward the pavement.
Without thinking, Izuku moved. His reflexes,
honed by ten months of martial arts and apex biology, were instantaneous. He
didn't even use a Quirk activation. He just stepped forward and caught her by
the back of her uniform collar, holding her effortlessly in the air with one
hand before she hit the ground.
"Ah! I'm floating?" the girl gasped,
closing her eyes. She opened them, realizing she wasn't using her Quirk. She
looked back and up. And up. And up.
She was staring into the face of a giant.
Izuku gently set her down on her feet.
"Are you alright?" Izuku asked, his
deep voice rumbling. He immediately took a step back, raising his large hands
defensively, afraid he had scared her. "I'm sorry for grabbing you so
suddenly! I just saw you falling and my body moved on its own!"
The girl blinked, looking at his massive,
scarred hands, and then up at his nervous, blushing face. The contrast between
his terrifying physique and his incredibly gentle, flustered demeanor was
almost comical.
She broke into a bright, sunny smile.
"Wow, you're super fast! And huge! Thanks for catching me, I was so
nervous my legs just gave out. I'm Ochako Uraraka!"
Izuku was stunned. She wasn't looking at him
like a monster. She was looking at him like a normal person.
"I-I'm Izuku Midoriya," he
stammered, his cheeks burning red. "It's nice to meet you,
Uraraka-san."
"Good luck in the exam, Midoriya!"
she waved cheerfully, jogging toward the auditorium. "Let's both do our
best!"
Izuku stood there for a moment, a small, genuine
smile creeping onto his face. Maybe... maybe I can do this.
The Practical Exam: Battle Center B
Following the written exam and Present Mic’s
loud, eccentric briefing in the auditorium—during which Izuku had
uncontrollably muttered an intricate analysis of Present Mic’s directional
acoustic Quirk, much to the annoyance of a stiff, glass-wearing student named
Iida—the applicants were bused to the mock city battlegrounds.
Izuku stood before the massive gates of Battle
Center B. He was wearing his gray tracksuit pants and a tight black tank top,
his muscular arms exposed. He stretched his massive shoulders, rotating his
neck until it popped loudly.
The other applicants in his sector—including
Uraraka and Iida—were grouped together, throwing nervous glances in his
direction.
"That guy... is he a pro hero who got
lost?" one applicant whispered.
"Look at the scars on his knuckles. He
looks like a Yakuza enforcer," another muttered.
Izuku ignored them. He closed his eyes,
focusing on his breathing. He visualized the kinetic chain. He visualized his
center of gravity.
"START!" Present Mic’s voice boomed
over the loudspeakers.
The other applicants jumped, startled by the
sudden announcement. But Izuku was already gone.
The moment the first syllable left Present
Mic's mouth, Izuku’s calves contracted. He didn't transform, but he allowed the
biological density of his muscles to surge. He dashed forward, leaving a small
crater in the concrete where he had been standing. He moved with a terrifying,
silent speed, entering the mock city before anyone else had even taken a step.
"What are you waiting for?!" Present
Mic yelled. "There are no countdowns in real battles! Run! Run!"
The crowd surged forward, but Izuku was
already in his element.
He rounded the first corner of the mock city
and immediately encountered three 1-Pointer robots. They were essentially
tread-bound tanks with rudimentary targeting systems.
"Target acquired," the robots chimed
in unison, aiming their rubber bullet turrets at the massive teenager.
Izuku didn't slow down. He sprinted directly
at them.
Focus. Precision. Control, his mind chanted.
As the first robot fired, Izuku slipped under
the projectile with the grace of a lightweight boxer. He closed the distance
instantly. He didn't punch. He stepped into the robot's guard, grabbed its
metallic arm with his left hand, and delivered a devastating Muay Thai elbow
strike to its chassis with his right.
CRACK!
The biological density of his reinforced
radius bone struck the metal armor. The kinetic transfer was flawless. The
1-Pointer’s chassis violently caved inward, completely destroying its central
processor without shattering the robot into pieces. It sparked and died
instantly.
Izuku used his grip on the dead robot to pivot
his massive body, swinging his right leg in a high, brutal roundhouse kick that
cleanly decapitated the second 1-Pointer. The metal head flew off, embedding
itself into a nearby concrete wall.
The third 1-Pointer backed away, attempting to
recalibrate.
Izuku dropped low, letting his Quirk partially
manifest. His massive, scaly tail whipped out from his spine, striking the
ground for balance. He executed a low, sweeping spin kick, using the tail to
accelerate his rotation. His shin slammed into the robot's treads, completely
obliterating its mobility and sending the heavy machine crashing onto its side,
disabled.
Three robots. Three seconds. Flawless CQC
execution.
Izuku retracted his tail, exhaling sharply,
before sprinting deeper into the city.
The Observation Room
Deep within the UA faculty observation room, a
massive array of screens displayed the progress of the applicants. The
teachers—Pro Heroes all—watched with varying degrees of interest.
"We have a good crop this year,"
Midnight purred, tapping her chin. "A lot of flashy Quirks. That explosion
boy in Center A is incredibly aggressive."
"His combat sense is high, but he lacks
situational awareness," noted Aizawa Shouta, wrapped in his yellow
sleeping bag, his tired eyes scanning the screens. His gaze locked onto a
screen displaying Battle Center B. "This one, however..."
Aizawa tapped a button, expanding the feed of
Izuku Midoriya.
On screen, Izuku was surrounded by four
2-Pointers. He wasn't using a flashy elemental attack. He was moving with the
precise, rhythmic footwork of a seasoned martial artist. He slipped past a
mechanical punch, grabbed the robot by its chassis, and delivered three rapid,
devastating knee strikes to its center mass, folding the machine in half. He
immediately transitioned, manifesting his massive green tail to parry a strike
from a robot behind him, before spinning and driving a heel kick through its
optical sensor.
The room went completely silent.
"Good lord," Ectoplasm muttered.
"His physical specs are off the charts. But look at his technique. Every
strike is calculated. There is zero wasted movement. He’s deliberately
controlling his power output to avoid creating shrapnel."
"A mutant-type Quirk," Principal
Nezu noted cheerfully, sipping his tea. "Registered as 'Apex Tyrant'. It
seems he possesses the biological traits of a dinosaur, yet he fights like a
Muay Thai champion. Fascinating."
"He's holding back," Aizawa said,
his eyes narrowing. "He's heavily restricting his Quirk manifestation. He
only brings the tail out for fractions of a second to act as a counterbalance
or a shield, then retracts it. He's actively fighting his own mutation."
"Why would he do that?" Snipe asked,
adjusting his mask.
"Because a full transformation is likely
incredibly dangerous, or difficult to control," Aizawa deduced. "He's
smart. He's relying on skill rather than overwhelming power. I like him."
All Might, standing in the back of the room in
his muscular form, beamed with immense, hidden pride. You're doing it, young
Midoriya! You're showing them your true strength!
"Let us see how he handles the true test,
then," Nezu smiled, his paw hovering over a large red button on the
console. "Let us see if his martial arts can withstand overwhelming
odds."
Nezu pressed the button.
The Climax: The Zero Pointer
Back in Battle Center B, Izuku had just
crushed the chassis of a 3-Pointer with a brutal axe kick. He stood amidst a
graveyard of ruined machinery, his chest heaving slightly, sweat glistening on
his dense muscles. He had lost count of his points, but he knew he had
destroyed at least thirty robots.
Suddenly, the ground beneath his feet began to
tremble.
It wasn't a small tremor. The asphalt cracked
and groaned. A shadow fell over the entire street, blocking out the morning
sun.
Izuku slowly turned around.
Rising from the center of the mock city,
shattering buildings as it stood up, was a machine of apocalyptic proportions.
The Zero Pointer. It was a colossal, heavily armored behemoth, easily the size
of a skyscraper, rolling on massive, city-crushing treads.
"What is that?!" a random applicant
screamed, terror evident in his voice. "That's not a test! That's a
monster!"
"Run!" Iida shouted, waving his arms
frantically as he dashed past Izuku. "It's the obstacle! There's no point
in fighting it! Fall back!"
The applicants broke into a panicked stampede,
fleeing away from the mechanical titan.
Izuku watched them run. His tactical mind
agreed. It's worth zero points. Fighting it is an unnecessary risk. My martial
arts strikes won't do anything against armor that thick. The logical choice is
to retreat.
He turned to follow the crowd.
"Ow... help!"
Izuku froze. His superhuman hearing picked up
the faint, pained cry instantly, even over the deafening roar of the robot's
engines. He snapped his head around.
Near the base of the Zero Pointer's path of
destruction, trapped under a massive chunk of concrete rubble from a shattered
building, was the brown-haired girl. Uraraka. She was struggling desperately to
push the concrete off her legs, but she was exhausted.
The Zero Pointer’s massive treads were rolling
directly toward her. In less than ten seconds, she would be crushed flat.
Izuku didn't think. The martial artist
vanished. The logical tactician vanished.
The Apex Predator awoke.
Izuku squared his massive shoulders, facing
the colossal machine. He took a deep, vibrating breath.
I can't beat it with Muay Thai, Izuku thought,
his eyes glowing a brilliant, blinding amber. I can't break its armor with
human strikes. If I hold back now, she dies.
Izuku let go of the cage. He shattered the
mental barriers he had spent ten months building. He surrendered to his
biology.
"ROOOAAAARRR!"
A guttural, deafening, prehistoric roar ripped
from Izuku’s throat, shaking the very air.
The transformation was absolute and violent.
His body didn't just partially manifest; he went into "Full Apex"
state. His muscles swelled grotesquely, veins bulging like thick ropes against
his skin. The impenetrable, dark emerald scales erupted across every inch of
his body, turning him into a bipedal, armored tank.
His jaw violently elongated, the bone
structure snapping into the terrifying, heavy-jowled shape of a T-Rex, lined
with jagged, serrated daggers. His eyes became predatory slits. His massive,
ton-heavy tail slammed into the street, shattering the asphalt into a crater.
But the most drastic change was his legs. His
knees snapped backward with a sickening crunch, reforming entirely into the
digitigrade structure of a dinosaur. His calves and thighs expanded to a
monstrous size, acting as biological, coiled springs capable of launching his
massive weight. Three giant, scythe-like claws tore through his combat boots,
gripping the concrete.
The fleeing applicants stopped, turning around
in horror as the roar washed over them.
"What... what is that?!" Iida
gasped, staring at the terrifying, reptilian titan standing in the street.
Izuku crouched low, his powerful digitigrade
legs compressing like hydraulic pistons. The concrete beneath his feet literally
exploded into dust from the sheer pressure he was exerting.
He didn't run. He launched.
BOOM!
A shockwave of displaced air shattered the
remaining windows on the street as Izuku propelled himself upward. He shot into
the sky like a green, scaly missile. He cleared fifty feet, then a hundred,
then two hundred, soaring through the air on a trajectory directly toward the
Zero Pointer's colossal head.
In the observation room, the Pro Heroes leaped
out of their seats.
"His leg strength just multiplied by a
factor of fifty!" Ectoplasm shouted. "He's jumping entirely on pure
kinetic energy!"
Izuku reached the apex of his jump, directly
level with the Zero Pointer's massive optical sensor. He fell forward, slamming
boots-first onto the machine's sloped, armored face. His heavy claws dug deep
into the metal, anchoring him securely to the vertical surface.
The Zero Pointer's internal defenses
activated. "THREAT DETECTED," a robotic voice droned.
Izuku didn't give it a chance to act. He
lunged forward on all fours, scaling the robot's face like a massive, predatory
lizard. He reached the heavy, reinforced steel plating covering the robot's
central processor on top of its head.
This was armor designed to withstand tank shells.
Izuku didn't care.
He dug his massive, clawed hands into the
seams of the steel plates. His biceps, thicker than a normal man's torso,
bulged as he engaged his maximum physical strength. He planted his digitigrade
feet, locked his jaw, and pulled.
The metal shrieked in protest. Sparks flew
wildly as the bolts snapped under the sheer, impossible torque of his mutant
strength. With a violent heave, Izuku ripped the massive steel plating
completely off the robot's head, tossing it aside and exposing the glowing,
delicate electronic brain and wiring beneath.
Crush. Consume. Destroy, the instinct screamed
in his mind.
Izuku stared down into the exposed circuitry.
If he unleashed a full "Tyrant Roar" out into the open, the sonic
shockwave would likely deafen the other applicants below or shatter the
surrounding buildings, dropping lethal debris on them. He needed to destroy the
machine without collateral damage.
He needed to localize the force.
Izuku shoved his massive, scaly head directly
into the gaping hole he had just torn in the robot's chassis. He buried his
jaws deep into the wiring, sealing his mouth against the internal metal walls
of the machine's brain casing.
He inhaled, his chest expanding massively.
And then, he unleashed the roar inside the
robot.
The sound was muffled to the outside world,
appearing only as a deep, vibrating hum that shook the ground. But inside the
Zero Pointer's chassis, it was a localized apocalypse.
The directed, supersonic acoustic shockwave
bounced off the internal armor plating, amplifying and echoing with devastating
force. The sheer kinetic pressure of the soundwaves instantly liquefied the
delicate circuitry, shattered the optical lenses from the inside out, and
completely ruptured the machine's central power core.
The Zero Pointer froze. Its glowing red eyes
flickered and died. A massive plume of black smoke erupted from its joints.
The behemoth was dead.
As the massive robot began to tilt backward,
slowly falling toward the empty section of the city, Izuku ripped his head out
of the chassis. He stood atop the falling titan for a brief second, silhouetted
against the sun, a victorious apex predator standing upon its slain prey.
Then, he leaped off.
He fell hundreds of feet back toward the
street. He aimed his descent perfectly, landing just feet away from where
Uraraka was trapped. He hit the ground in a deep crouch, his digitigrade legs
acting as flawless biological shock absorbers, dispersing the kinetic energy of
his fall without shattering his bones.
He stood up, towering over the terrified girl.
He was fully transformed, a terrifying monster covered in dark green scales and
sharp teeth, smoke rising from his jaws.
Uraraka stared up at him, her eyes wide with
shock, her breath caught in her throat. She looked at his terrifying claws, his
massive tail, and his glowing amber eyes.
Izuku panicked internally. Oh no. I did it. I
went full monster. She's terrified of me.
He awkwardly reached down with his massive,
clawed hands and grabbed the giant chunk of concrete pinning her legs. With a
casual flick of his wrists, he tossed the multi-ton boulder aside like it was
made of styrofoam.
He looked down at her, desperately trying to
soften his terrifying reptilian face.
"A-Are you okay, Uraraka-san?" he
asked. Due to his elongated jaws and thickened vocal cords, the words came out
as a deep, vibrating, guttural rumble that sounded more like a growl than
speech.
Uraraka stared at him for a long, silent
second. Then, she looked past him at the smoking, destroyed ruin of the Zero
Pointer. She looked back at the terrifying dinosaur-boy standing over her.
Her lips trembled, and then she broke into a
massive, tearful smile.
"You... you really are amazing,
Midoriya," she whispered, reaching out to gently touch his scaly, clawed
hand. "You saved me. Thank you, my hero."
Izuku’s amber eyes widened. The primal, raging
instincts in his mind instantly evaporated, washed away by a wave of pure,
overwhelming emotion. The word 'hero' struck his heart like a lightning bolt.
Before he could respond, a loud buzzer echoed
across the mock city.
"TIME'S UP!" Present Mic announced.
"THE EXAM IS OVER!"
Izuku let out a long, shuddering sigh. The
tension left his body. The massive scales rapidly melted away, his jaw
retracted, and his legs snapped back into their human configuration. Within
seconds, he was back to being the hulking, polite teenager in a sweaty tank
top.
He gently picked Uraraka up in his arms,
carrying her easily. "Let's get you to Recovery Girl," he said, his
normal voice returning, a bright, tearful smile on his face.
From the end of the street, the other
applicants watched him carry her away. They didn't see a monster anymore. They
saw a kid who had just casually dismantled a skyscraper to save a stranger.
In the observation room, Aizawa smirked,
pulling his sleeping bag tighter around his shoulders. "Well. It seems we
have an interesting year ahead of us."
All Might let out a booming laugh, tears of
pride streaming down his face. "Indeed! The Apex has arrived!"
The bespoke UA high school uniform felt
uncomfortably tight across Izuku Midoriya’s massive shoulders. Despite the
school's generous budget and ability to accommodate mutant Quirks of all shapes
and sizes, standard tailoring struggled with the sheer density of a teenager
built like a heavyweight world champion. Izuku tugged nervously at the collar
of his white shirt, his large, calloused fingers accidentally popping the top
button. He sighed, a deep, vibrating sound that rattled in his broad chest, and
pushed open the towering door to Class 1-A.
The classroom was already buzzing with the
chaotic energy of aspiring heroes. The moment the giant door slid open,
however, the volume dropped significantly.
Izuku ducked his head instinctively, a habit forged
from a decade of trying to make himself look smaller. He stepped into the room,
his heavy combat boots thudding softly against the linoleum. Eyes darted toward
him. He recognized several faces from the entrance exam, and he could see the
exact moment recognition sparked in their eyes.
"Whoa, it's him," whispered a boy
with spiky red hair and sharp teeth. "The guy who one-shot the Zero
Pointer."
"He looks like he could crush my skull
like a grape," squeaked a very short boy with purple balls on his head.
"Good morning!"
Izuku blinked, looking down to see the stiff,
bespectacled student from the auditorium marching toward him with robotic,
chopped hand gestures.
"I am Tenya Iida from Somei Private
Academy!" Iida bowed at a perfect right angle. "I must apologize!
During the exam briefing, I admonished you for muttering, but I was entirely
unaware of the sheer tactical brilliance and overwhelming power you possessed!
You deduced the true nature of the exam and sacrificed your own points to save
a fellow applicant! I am humbled!"
Izuku raised his massive hands defensively,
his face instantly flushing a bright, embarrassed red. "N-No! Not at all,
Iida-kun! I didn't deduce anything! I was just terrified, and my body just sort
of... moved on its own! Please don't bow!"
"Deku."
The single word cut through the air like a
crack of a whip.
Izuku stiffened. Sitting near the back of the
classroom, his feet kicked disrespectfully onto his desk, was Katsuki Bakugo.
The ash-blonde teenager wasn't shouting. He wasn't making a scene. Instead, he
was staring at Izuku with a terrifying, unblinking intensity. His crimson eyes
were slightly bloodshot, and his hands, resting on his lap, were twitching with
miniature, suppressed sparks.
Ever since the Sludge Villain incident, and
compounded by the rumors of Izuku's monstrous display at the Entrance Exam,
Katsuki had been living in a state of hyper-vigilant paranoia. The natural
order of his universe had been inverted. The pebble he was supposed to kick
aside had transformed into a towering mountain that blocked out the sun.
Katsuki didn't view Izuku as a classmate; he viewed him as an existential
threat to his ego, a biological anomaly that needed to be put down so Katsuki
could reclaim the title of the strongest.
Izuku met Katsuki's glare for a brief second.
He didn't cower, but he didn't challenge him either. He just offered a sad,
gentle nod, before turning away to find his seat.
"If you're just here to make friends, you
can pack up your things and leave."
The voice came from the floor. The entire
class jumped as a yellow sleeping bag inch-wormed its way through the open
doorway. A tired, scruffy man unzipped the cocoon and stood up, sipping from a
juice pouch.
"I'm Shota Aizawa. I'm your homeroom
teacher," he droned, his bloodshot eyes scanning the room. When his gaze
landed on Izuku, the pro hero paused for a fraction of a second, his analytical
mind dissecting the boy's monstrous physique. "Put these on and head out
to the training field. We don't have time to waste."
He tossed a blue and white gym uniform onto
the front desk.
The Quirk Apprehension Test
The morning sun beat down on the expansive,
pristine dirt of the P.E. grounds. Class 1-A stood in a loose cluster,
nervously adjusting their gym uniforms. Izuku’s uniform, once again, clung
tightly to his heavily muscled frame, the short sleeves doing nothing to hide
the vascular, dense muscles of his arms.
"A Quirk Apprehension Test?" the
class echoed in confusion.
"What about the entrance ceremony? Or
orientation?" Uraraka asked, stepping up beside Izuku. She offered him a
bright smile, which Izuku returned with a timid, rumbling chuckle.
"UA isn't tethered to normal
traditions," Aizawa stated coldly. "Here, we run things how we see
fit. You've been restricted from using your Quirks in school for your entire
lives. Today, we measure your true, unfiltered potential."
Aizawa tossed a softball to Katsuki.
"Bakugo, you finished first in the practical exam. What was your farthest
throw in middle school?"
"Sixty-seven meters," Katsuki
grunted, catching the ball.
"Try it with your Quirk. Anything goes, just
stay in the circle."
Katsuki stepped up to the chalk line. He
rolled his shoulders, a feral grin slowly spreading across his face. He threw a
quick, sideways glance at Izuku, his crimson eyes burning with a desperate need
to establish dominance. Watch me, you overgrown lizard, Katsuki thought. I'm
the apex here.
Katsuki wound up. As his arm whipped forward,
he ignited a massive, concussive blast of nitroglycerin from his palm.
"DIE!"
The ball rocketed into the sky, propelled by a
trail of fire and smoke. It vanished into the clouds. A moment later, Aizawa
held up a digital device.
705.2 meters.
The class erupted in shock and excitement.
"Awesome!" "Over 700 meters?!" "This is going to be so
much fun!"
Aizawa’s eyes flashed red, his capture weapon levitating
slightly around his neck. "Fun? You have three years to become heroes. You
think it's all going to be games? Fine. Whoever ranks last in all eight tests
will be judged to have no potential and will be expelled."
A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the
students.
Izuku clenched his massive fists. He wasn't
afraid of being expelled for lack of physical ability; his body was an engine
of destruction. What terrified him was how he would achieve his scores. If he
lost control, if he let the predator out in front of his new classmates, they
would label him a monster. He had to rely on All Might's training. He had to be
a martial artist, not a beast.
"Test One: 50-Meter Dash."
Izuku was paired up against Katsuki.
They stood at the starting line. A robotic
camera hovered beside them, ready to track their times. Katsuki was already
crouched low, both hands facing backward, sparking with explosive energy.
Izuku stood tall. He took a deep breath,
visualizing his anatomy. He didn't need a full transformation. He just needed
the mechanics of the hunt.
He allowed the Quirk to activate—just
slightly. Beneath his skin, the muscle fibers in his calves and thighs
twitched, multiplying in density. The microscopic emerald scales flared along
his shins, turning his legs into biological steel. He didn't shift into his
digitigrade stance; doing so would shatter the concrete starting block. He kept
his human posture, but channeled the explosive, twitch-muscle power of a T-Rex
charging its prey.
"On your marks..." the robot chimed.
"Get set..."
Katsuki sneered. "Don't blink,
Deku."
BANG!
Katsuki launched himself forward with a
massive, twin-handed explosion, rocketing over the track like a missile.
But Izuku didn't fly. He ran.
The moment the gun went off, Izuku’s right
foot slammed into the starting block. The reinforced concrete literally cracked
under the sheer torque. The kinetic energy transfer was absolute. Izuku’s
massive body blurred. He crossed the fifty-meter distance in three bounding,
earth-shaking strides. The wind displaced by his sheer mass whipped across the
field, kicking up a cloud of dust.
He crossed the finish line.
3.04 seconds, the robot announced flatly.
Katsuki crossed the line a full second later,
skidding to a halt. 4.13 seconds.
Katsuki’s jaw dropped. He whipped his head
around, staring at Izuku, who was already casually walking back to the group,
barely even breathing hard. Katsuki’s hands shook. He outran an explosion. The
bastard outran an explosion with just his raw legs!
"Incredible," Iida muttered,
adjusting his glasses. "Such explosive leg power! He didn't even use a
mobility Quirk, just pure biomechanical force!"
Aizawa jotted down the time on his clipboard,
his expression unreadable. Top-tier Pro Hero speed. And he barely even tried.
"Test Two: Grip Strength."
Izuku was handed a digital dynamometer. He
looked at the small metal device in his massive, scarred hand. He thought back
to the Sludge Villain's core, and how easily he had gripped it. He needed to
hold back.
He squeezed the handle. The digital numbers
spun wildly: 100kg... 300kg... 600kg...
CRACK.
The metal casing of the machine splintered,
the thick springs inside snapping like dry twigs. The screen flashed ERROR
before dying completely. Izuku looked up guiltily.
"Um... Aizawa-sensei? I think I broke
it."
A student with tape-dispenser elbows (Sero)
and the purple-haired boy (Mineta) backed away slowly. "He's a
gorilla," Mineta whimpered. "An actual, literal silverback gorilla
disguised as a teenager."
Izuku continued to dominate the tests. The
standing long jump? He cleared the sandbox entirely, landing softly on the
grass on the other side. Sustained side steps? His reinforced joints allowed
him to move like a blur, the heavy thuds of his boots sounding like a
rapid-fire drumline.
Finally, they arrived at Test Five: The
Softball Throw.
Uraraka had just stepped up and scored a
literal "Infinity" by removing the ball's gravity. The class cheered.
"Midoriya. You're up," Aizawa called
out.
Izuku stepped into the chalk circle. He picked
up the softball. It looked like a golf ball in his massive palm.
If I just throw it with human mechanics, even
with my strength, the air resistance will slow it down, Izuku analyzed
internally. I need to maximize the kinetic chain. I need the third pillar.
Izuku took a deep breath. His eyes flickered
amber. A wet, heavy crunch echoed from his lower back as his gym pants
stretched (custom designed with an elastic rear flap) and his massive,
ten-foot-long emerald tail whipped out, slamming into the dirt.
The class gasped.
"A tail?!" Uraraka exclaimed.
"It's huge!" another student yelled.
"Like a dinosaur!"
Izuku ignored them. He planted his left foot.
He pulled his right arm back. He began to twist his torso, lifting his tail to
act as a flawless, ton-heavy counterbalance.
Suddenly, the world went gray.
The heavy, primal strength in Izuku’s arm
vanished. The tail hanging behind him suddenly felt agonizingly heavy, entirely
dead weight. His scales retracted.
Izuku stumbled, dropping the ball, nearly
falling over as his Quirk abruptly deactivated.
He looked up. Aizawa’s hair was floating in
the air, his eyes glowing a menacing, brilliant red. The capture weapon around
his neck slithered like an angry snake.
"I saw the footage of the Entrance Exam,
Midoriya," Aizawa said, his voice dripping with icy condescension.
"You have the physical specs of a top-tier Pro Hero. But you're a
liability."
The class went dead silent, watching the
terrifying teacher confront the giant student.
"I saw you fight the Zero Pointer,"
Aizawa continued, stepping closer. "You didn't use tactics. You didn't
secure the area. You surrendered to a feral, predatory instinct. You turned
into a berserker. You generated a localized sonic attack that, had it been
aimed poorly, would have liquefied the organs of every student within a
two-block radius."
Izuku shrank back, his broad shoulders
slouching. Aizawa’s words hit him harder than a physical blow, because they
were his own deepest fears spoken aloud.
"A hero who cannot control his own mind
is not a hero; he's a villain waiting to happen," Aizawa narrowed his
eyes. "You're holding back right now because you're terrified of yourself.
But in a real fight, when the pressure mounts, will you snap again? Will you
let the monster out to save the day, disregarding the collateral damage?"
Aizawa’s hair fell back down as he blinked,
deactivating Erasure. Izuku felt his immense strength flood back into his
veins, his heavy tail twitching back to life.
"You have one throw," Aizawa said,
pointing at the ball. "Show me that you are a student, not a beast. Or I
will expel you right here."
Katsuki watched from the sidelines, a sick,
twisted smile forming on his face. Yeah. Tell him, teach. He's just a brainless
freak. He can't control it. He's gonna choke.
Izuku stood perfectly still. He picked up the
softball. He closed his eyes.
Aizawa-sensei is right, Izuku thought. At the
entrance exam, I lost control. I let the Apex take over completely. But... All
Might taught me better than that. I am a martial artist. I am the carpenter,
and my body is the hammer.
Izuku opened his eyes. The amber glow
returned, but it wasn't feral. It was sharp, focused, and incredibly calm.
"I understand, Sensei," Izuku
rumbled, his deep voice carrying across the silent field. "I will show you
my control."
Izuku stepped back into his stance. He didn't
roar. He didn't bulk up into his Full Apex state. He simply engaged his martial
arts training.
He brought his right arm back. His massive
tail whipped to the left, initiating a brutal, terrifying rotational torque.
The muscles in his right arm flared, localized emerald scales wrapping around
his forearm and knuckles to reinforce the bones against the impending G-force.
As his hips snapped forward, driven by the
counterbalance of the tail, Izuku threw the ball.
BOOM!
A sonic boom shattered the air. A shockwave of
displaced wind blasted outward from the circle, forcing Aizawa to cross his
arms and dig his heels into the dirt to avoid being pushed back. The ball
didn't just fly; it ignited into a streak of red-hot friction, piercing the
clouds in a millisecond.
Izuku stood in the circle, his arm
outstretched, his tail resting gently on the ground behind him. He hadn't lost
his temper. He hadn't unleashed a roar. It was a perfect, cold, calculated
application of biomechanical violence.
Aizawa’s device beeped. He looked down at the
screen, a rare, genuine smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. He turned the
screen toward the class.
915.3 meters.
"He threw it almost a kilometer!"
the red-haired boy (Kirishima) yelled, pumping his fists. "And he totally
kept his cool! That's so manly!"
Izuku turned to Aizawa, his tail retracting
smoothly into his spine. "I won't let the instinct control me, Sensei,"
Izuku said quietly. "I'm going to be a hero who keeps his mind
clear."
Aizawa nodded once. "We'll see. Get back
in line."
As Izuku walked back to the group, Uraraka
gave him a massive high-five, which Izuku met with careful, restrained
gentleness.
But Izuku felt a burning glare on the side of
his head. He turned to look at Katsuki.
Katsuki’s face was contorted in absolute rage.
His eyes were wide, his teeth bared in a feral snarl. He was trembling. Izuku
hadn't just beaten his score; Izuku had done it with casual, restrained ease.
Izuku had proven that his "freakish monster" side was fully under his
command.
You think you're better than me?! Katsuki’s
mind screamed, his palms sparking violently. You think you can just look down
on me from the top of the food chain?! I'll kill you! I'll blast those stupid
scales off your body!
The Battle Trial Briefing
The following afternoon, the tension in Class
1-A reached a boiling point. It was time for Foundational Hero Studies.
"I AM HERE!" All Might announced,
bursting through the classroom door in his Silver Age costume. "COMING
THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A HERO!"
The class cheered, amazed to see the Number
One Pro Hero in the flesh. Izuku beamed, immense pride swelling in his massive
chest.
"Today, we will be conducting Indoor
Battle Trials!" All Might boomed, holding up a card that read BATTLE.
"And to do that, you need your costumes! Proceed to Ground Beta and suit
up!"
Twenty minutes later, the students emerged
from the tunnel into the mock city.
Izuku’s costume was a testament to his ten
months of training on Dagobah Beach. He had rejected the idea of a flashy,
spandex superhero suit. Instead, his costume was heavily inspired by
traditional martial arts gear, modified for a massive, mutating frame.
He wore dark green, incredibly durable, baggy
gi pants that allowed for maximum flexibility during high kicks. The back of
the pants featured a reinforced, expandable opening to allow his tail to
manifest without tearing the fabric. His chest was covered by a tight, black,
sleeveless compression shirt made of a unique, hyper-elastic polymer that could
stretch to accommodate his Full Apex musculature without ripping. His hands
were wrapped tightly in traditional white Muay Thai hand wraps, leaving his
scarred knuckles and thick fingers exposed for grappling. Finally, his combat
boots were open-toed, designed to allow his three massive dinosaur claws to
erupt freely when he shifted to a digitigrade stance.
He looked less like a traditional hero and
more like an underground pit fighter—an aesthetic that perfectly matched his
imposing size.
"Whoa, Midoriya! You look like a martial
arts master!" Uraraka cheered as she walked up to him. She was wearing her
pink, astronaut-inspired suit.
"T-Thanks, Uraraka-san," Izuku
rubbed the back of his neck, his cheeks flushing. "Your costume looks
really great too! It suits your Quirk perfectly."
All Might stood before the class, drawing lots
from two boxes to determine the teams and matchups.
"Match One!" All Might declared.
"Team A will be the Heroes! Team D will be the Villains!"
Izuku looked down at his slip of paper. Team
A. He looked up.
Katsuki Bakugo stood across the crowd, holding
a slip that read Team D. He was wearing his hero costume—a tight black tank
top, baggy pants, and massive, grenade-shaped gauntlets on his forearms.
Katsuki’s eyes locked onto Izuku. The sheer,
unadulterated hatred radiating from the explosive boy was palpable. This wasn't
just a class exercise anymore. To Katsuki, this was a battle for survival. It
was a fight to determine who the true apex predator was.
"The Villains will go inside and set up
their nuclear weapon!" All Might instructed. "The Heroes will
infiltrate in five minutes! You may capture the villains with capture tape, or
touch the weapon to win!"
The Infiltration
Izuku and Uraraka stood outside the massive,
multi-story building. Izuku was stretching his broad shoulders, his eyes closed
in deep concentration.
"So, Midoriya, what's the plan?"
Uraraka asked, adjusting her helmet.
Izuku opened his eyes. "Kacchan is going
to come straight for me."
Uraraka blinked. "Bakugo? Really? But
he's supposed to be guarding the weapon."
"You don't know him like I do," Izuku
sighed, his deep voice carrying a note of genuine sadness. "He has an
incredible combat sense, but his pride is his biggest weakness. He hates me. He
hates my Quirk. He's going to abandon the weapon and try to hunt me down to
prove a point. When he attacks, I'll hold him off. You use the distraction to
slip past us, find Iida, and float the weapon."
"Are you sure you can handle him
alone?" Uraraka asked, a hint of concern in her voice. "His
explosions look really dangerous."
Izuku looked at his wrapped hands. He thought
of the Sludge Villain. He thought of the Zero Pointer.
"I'll be fine," Izuku said calmly.
"I just have to make sure I don't hurt him too badly."
A buzzer sounded over the PA system. START!
Izuku and Uraraka entered the building through
a first-floor window. The corridors were dark, winding, and completely silent.
Izuku took the lead, his heavy boots making barely a whisper against the
concrete. His acute hearing was pushed to the maximum, listening for the
slightest shift in the air.
They reached a T-junction on the second floor.
Izuku’s ears twitched. He smelled it before he
heard it—the sharp, acrid scent of burnt sugar.
"Uraraka, get back!" Izuku roared,
shoving his arm out to push her behind him.
From around the corner, Katsuki Bakugo
launched himself out of the shadows, propelled by a localized explosion. His
right hand was pulled back, crackling with a massive, concentrated blast aimed
directly at Izuku’s face.
"TAKE THIS, YOU FREAK!" Katsuki
screamed.
Izuku didn't flinch. He didn't even blink.
In a fraction of a second, the microscopic
emerald scales flared to life, covering Izuku’s right forearm. He brought his
arm up in a flawless Muay Thai high block, intercepting Katsuki’s palm
perfectly.
BOOM!
The explosion detonated point-blank against
Izuku’s arm. The narrow hallway was instantly filled with blinding fire and
thick smoke. The shockwave rattled the windows and pushed Uraraka back several
feet.
In the observation room, the class gasped.
"A sneak attack?! That's so unmanly!" Kirishima yelled.
Back in the hallway, the smoke rapidly
cleared.
Katsuki landed on his feet, panting heavily, a
feral grin on his face. Got him. I blasted him right in the face. Let's see him
act so superior now.
But as the smoke dissipated, Katsuki’s grin
vanished.
Izuku was still standing in the exact same
spot. He hadn't moved an inch. His right arm was still raised in the block. The
emerald scales on his forearm were slightly charred, smoking gently in the cool
air, but otherwise completely, entirely undamaged.
Izuku slowly lowered his arm. His eyes glowed
a faint, terrifying amber in the dim light of the hallway.
"Go, Uraraka," Izuku commanded, his
voice a deep, vibrating rumble that shook the dust from the ceiling.
Uraraka didn't hesitate. She scrambled to her
feet and sprinted down the opposite hallway, leaving the two rivals alone.
Katsuki didn't even look at her; his eyes were glued to the smoking scales on
Izuku’s arm.
"You think a little fire is going to hurt
me, Kacchan?" Izuku asked, his tone perfectly calm. It wasn't arrogant; it
was simply a statement of biological fact.
Katsuki gritted his teeth, the veins bulging
in his neck. "Stop looking at me like that! Stop looking at me like I'm a
bug!"
Katsuki lunged again. He unleashed a furious,
rapid-fire barrage of explosions, turning himself into a human tornado of
violence. He swung his right hook, detonating an explosion to accelerate his
fist, aiming for Izuku’s ribs.
Izuku stepped smoothly into the attack. He
didn't use his overwhelming strength. He used technique. He parried Katsuki’s
wrist with his left hand, deflecting the explosion harmlessly past his torso.
In the same fluid motion, he brought his right elbow up, striking Katsuki
squarely in the chest.
Izuku pulled his punch massively, but the
sheer density of his bone still sent Katsuki flying backward, gasping for air
as he crashed into a concrete pillar.
"You're fighting blindly," Izuku
said, taking a measured step forward. He dropped into a Muay Thai stance.
"You're so angry, you're telegraphing your swings."
"SHUT UP!" Katsuki roared, launching
himself off the pillar. He used his explosions to maneuver in mid-air,
attempting to flank Izuku and strike him from behind.
Crunch.
Izuku’s tail manifested in an instant,
erupting from his lower back. As Katsuki flew behind him, Izuku didn't even
turn his head. He simply whipped his heavy, muscular tail backward. The thick
appendage caught Katsuki mid-flight, swatting him out of the air like a fly.
Katsuki tumbled hard across the floor, his grenade gauntlets scraping against
the concrete.
In the observation room, the students were in
awe.
"Midoriya isn't even attacking!"
Kaminari noted, his eyes wide. "He's just defending and parrying! Bakugo
can't even touch him!"
"It's like watching a martial arts master
play with a toddler," Todoroki observed quietly, his mismatched eyes fixed
on the screen.
All Might gripped the microphone, his knuckles
white. Izuku is in complete control. He's restraining the Apex perfectly. But
young Bakugo... his pride is fracturing.
In the hallway, Katsuki slowly pushed himself
up off the floor. His breathing was ragged. His chest ached from the elbow
strike, and his pride was bleeding out onto the floor.
He looked at Izuku. The giant teenager stood
there, his tail swaying rhythmically, his face a mask of calm, pitying
restraint.
It was the playground all over again. The
indestructible monster, looking down on him.
Something in Katsuki’s mind snapped. The
rational, tactical genius vanished, replaced by a desperate, suicidal need for
destruction.
Katsuki stood up, raising his right arm. He
grabbed the small metal pin located on the side of his massive, grenade-shaped
gauntlet.
"You think you're a hero, Deku?"
Katsuki’s voice was eerily quiet, trembling with raw malice. "You're just
a freak. A monster playing dress-up. Let's see how much of a hero you are when
I burn you to ash."
In the observation room, All Might realized
what was happening. He grabbed the mic. "Young Bakugo, stop! Are you
trying to kill him?! If you use that, the match is over!"
Katsuki ignored the earpiece. "If he
doesn't dodge, he won't die!"
Katsuki pulled the pin.
The gauntlet, which had been storing Katsuki’s
nitroglycerin sweat for the entire match, vented its payload all at once.
A monstrous, blinding pillar of fire and
concussive force erupted from the gauntlet. The explosion was so massive it
completely consumed the entire width of the hallway. The sheer heat instantly
flash-melted the windows, and the acoustic shockwave shattered the concrete
walls, blowing out the side of the building.
The observation room monitors flared pure
white with static.
"Midoriya!" several students screamed
in terror.
The dust and smoke billowed out of the ruined
building, rising into the mock city sky.
Katsuki stood at the end of the hallway, his
arm smoking, his shoulder dislocated from the sheer recoil of the blast. He
panted heavily, staring into the inferno he had just created.
I did it, Katsuki thought, a manic, desperate
smile stretching across his face. I beat him. I vaporized him.
The flames slowly began to recede. The smoke
cleared.
And from the heart of the inferno, a heavy,
rhythmic thud echoed against the ruined floorboards.
Thud.
Thud.
Katsuki’s smile vanished. His crimson eyes
dilated in absolute, pants-wetting terror.
Walking slowly out of the flames was a
nightmare.
Izuku had not dodged. He had not run. He had
taken the most powerful explosion Katsuki Bakugo could produce directly to the
chest.
Izuku was in his Full Apex state. His entire
body was encased in thick, jagged, dark emerald scales. He had grown to his full,
monstrous height, his massive shoulders hunched forward. His jaw was elongated,
his serrated teeth bared in a terrifying snarl.
The front of his compression shirt had been
completely incinerated, revealing his heavily muscled, scale-covered chest. The
scales were glowing a dull, cherry-red from the intense heat of the explosion,
and thin wisps of smoke curled off his body.
But he was completely, entirely unharmed. Not
a single scale was cracked. Not a drop of blood was shed.
Izuku stepped out of the fire, his heavy,
three-toed, clawed feet crunching on the broken concrete. His golden-amber eyes
locked onto Katsuki, glowing with a primal, overwhelming dominance.
Katsuki tried to step back, but his legs
refused to move. The sheer, overwhelming aura of the apex predator paralyzed
his nervous system. His brain screamed at him to run, to hide, to submit.
Izuku closed the distance in a single,
terrifying blur of speed.
He didn't throw a punch. He didn't bite.
Izuku’s massive tail swept low, sweeping
Katsuki’s legs out from under him. As Katsuki fell backward toward the floor,
Izuku stepped forward and planted his massive, ton-heavy, clawed foot squarely
onto Katsuki’s chest, pinning him to the ground.
Izuku leaned down, his terrifying, reptilian face
mere inches from Katsuki’s. The heat radiating from Izuku’s smoking scales was
suffocating. Katsuki looked up into the jaws of the T-Rex, fully expecting the
monster to bite his head off.
But the amber eyes slowly faded, replaced by
Izuku’s normal, gentle green irises.
Izuku didn't roar. He spoke. His voice was
deep, guttural, and vibrating with immense, suppressed power, but it was
incredibly calm.
"I am a hero, Kacchan," Izuku
rumbled, the serrated teeth inches from Katsuki’s nose. "I don't need to
eat you to beat you."
Katsuki stared up at him, his breath hitching
in his throat. His entire worldview, his entire identity as the strongest,
shattered into a million irreparable pieces beneath the weight of Izuku’s foot.
Izuku calmly reached down to his belt, pulled
off a strip of white capture tape, and wrapped it securely around Katsuki’s
wrists.
"Bakugo captured," Izuku said
quietly into his earpiece.
A moment later, the PA system crackled to
life. "Team A... Heroes win!" All Might announced, his voice filled
with overwhelming relief and pride.
Izuku pulled his foot off Katsuki’s chest. The
scales rapidly receded, his muscles shrinking back down to his human size.
Within seconds, the terrifying monster was gone, replaced by the polite,
hulking teenager.
Izuku extended a scarred, calloused hand down
to the boy on the floor.
"Come on, Kacchan," Izuku said
gently. "Let's go back to the observation room."
Katsuki didn't take the hand. He lay on the
broken concrete, staring up at the ceiling, tears of pure, unadulterated
frustration and defeat welling in his eyes. He had unleashed his ultimate
attack, and the monster hadn't even flinched.
Izuku lowered his hand, a sad smile on his
face, and walked away, leaving the explosive boy to finally understand his
place in the food chain.
