What If Deku Had an Overpowered Ankylosaurus Quirk for Defensive Combat

The human body was not designed to carry the weight of a mountain.

Bone, muscle, and sinew were fragile things, built for mobility and survival, easily bruised and easily broken. In an era where eighty percent of humanity possessed uncanny abilities known as Quirks, the fragility of the human form was often bypassed by spectacular offensive powers. Children could breathe fire, move objects with their minds, or emit explosions from their palms. Yet, beneath the flash and awe of these evolutionary marvels, humanity remained decidedly mortal. Skin could still be pierced. Bones could still snap.

Izuku Midoriya was four years old when he realized he was the exception to the rule.

The sterile, antiseptic smell of Dr. Tsubasa’s office was something Izuku would remember for the rest of his life. He sat on the crinkling paper of the examination table, swinging his legs, a vibrant All Might action figure clutched in his small, pudgy hands. His mother, Inko, paced the small room, her hands wringing together in a nervous frenzy.

Izuku had been complaining of a deep, unscratchable itch along his spine for weeks. Initially, Inko had dismissed it as dry skin or growing pains. But when the skin along the boy’s back had begun to harden, taking on a coarse, leathery texture tinted with a dark, mottled green, panic had set in.

Dr. Tsubasa entered the room, clipping an X-ray to the glowing lightboard on the wall. The older man adjusted his round glasses, his mustache twitching with a mixture of professional intrigue and genuine astonishment.

“Well, Mrs. Midoriya,” the doctor began, his voice thick with gravel. “I can safely say that Izuku is not Quirkless. In fact, he is undergoing one of the most drastic physical mutations I have seen in my forty years of pediatrics.”

Inko stopped pacing, her breath catching in her throat. “A… a mutation? But neither my husband nor I have anything like this. My husband breathes minor fire, and I can pull small objects! Izuku’s back, it’s…”

“It is a biological marvel,” Dr. Tsubasa interrupted, pointing a pen at the skeletal scan on the lightboard. “Look here. Do you see the density of the vertebrae? The skeletal structure is rapidly reinforcing itself. Bone spurs are developing not as deformities, but as anchor points for localized, dermal plating. He is developing osteoderms—hexagonal plates of bone that grow within the skin itself. It is a trait found in crocodilians, and more specifically, in the extinct Ankylosaurus.”

Izuku tilted his head, his wide green eyes blinking. Ankylo-saurus? Like the dinosaurs in his picture books?

“Furthermore,” the doctor continued, pointing to the base of the spine. “The coccyx is elongating. Over the next few weeks, Izuku will develop a prehensile tail, likely culminating in a dense, osseous club. It is a textbook Transformation/Mutant hybrid Quirk. His body is essentially turning into a living, breathing, impenetrable fortress.”

Inko rushed to the table, pulling Izuku into a tight, trembling hug. “Oh, my baby. Is it going to hurt him? Is he going to be okay?”

“The transition will be uncomfortable,” Dr. Tsubasa warned gently. “His center of gravity will drop. His caloric intake will need to quadruple to sustain the bone density and the armor plating. But as for hurting him? Mrs. Midoriya… I sincerely doubt much in this world will ever be able to physically hurt your son again.”

Over the next month, the doctor’s prognosis became a reality. The itch bloomed into a dull ache, and then, the transformation finalized. Izuku’s soft childhood skin gave way to overlapping, thick hexagonal scales of deep forest-green, wrapping around his back, shoulders, outer arms, and legs. His chest and stomach remained softer, covered in a pliable but impossibly tough pale-yellow reptilian hide.

And then, there was the tail.

It was nearly as long as he was tall, thick, muscular, and armored, dragging heavily behind him until he learned to flex the new muscles required to lift it. At its tip was a massive, rounded clump of solid bone, resembling a medieval mace. When he walked, his footsteps no longer pattered; they thudded, echoing with a heavy, unshakeable weight.

He was four years old, and he weighed ninety pounds.

The anxiety that usually fluttered in his chest, the innate childhood fear of getting scraped, bruised, or bullied, vanished. It was a purely psychological shift triggered by biology. When you wore a suit of impenetrable armor, the world suddenly seemed much less threatening. He felt anchored to the earth.

This newfound stoicism would be tested on a balmy Tuesday afternoon at the local playground—the undisputed kingdom of Katsuki Bakugo.

Katsuki had awakened his Quirk a few months prior. Explosion. It was flashy, destructive, and loud. It was the perfect Quirk for a hero, and Katsuki made sure every child in the neighborhood knew it. He was a tyrant in short pants, ruling the sandbox with popping palms and a fierce, feral grin.

Izuku had known Katsuki since they were in diapers. Before the armor, Izuku had always trailed behind Katsuki, timid and eager to please. But on this particular Tuesday, everything changed.

Katsuki and his lackeys had cornered a crying boy with a minor wing-mutation Quirk, trapping him against the twisting slide.

“You’re in my way, extra!” Katsuki barked, tiny sparks detonating in his palms. “If you don’t move, I’ll blast you!”

The boy whimpered, shielding his face. But before Katsuki could unleash his infantile wrath, a heavy, rhythmic thud… thud… thud vibrated through the woodchips of the playground.

Izuku stepped between Katsuki and the weeping boy. His stance was wide, his thick, reptilian legs planted firmly in the dirt. His heavy green tail swept lazily behind him, the bone-club resting against the earth. He didn't tremble. He didn't stutter. He just looked down at Katsuki—because the mutation had already made Izuku several inches taller and twice as wide—with calm, unblinking green eyes.

“That’s enough, Kacchan,” Izuku said. His voice, once high and reedy, possessed a strange, rumbling resonance. “He’s crying. Stop.”

Katsuki’s crimson eyes narrowed, his pride stinging. “Deku? You think because you look like a stupid lizard now, you can tell me what to do? You’re still just a pebble in my way! Move!”

“No.”

The word was simple. Final. An immovable object establishing its position against an unstoppable force.

“Die!” Katsuki shrieked, lunging forward. He threw his right hand out, directly into Izuku’s chest, and set off the largest explosion his four-year-old body could muster.

BOOM!

Smoke billowed. The sheer sound caused the other children to scream and scatter. The heat flared, bright and aggressive, kicking up dust and woodchips. Katsuki smirked, expecting to see Izuku on the ground, crying in pain, apologizing for defying the playground king.

The smoke cleared.

Izuku had not moved a single inch. His feet had not shifted. His eyes had not even blinked against the flash. The pale-yellow scales on his chest were entirely unblemished, save for a small, circular smudge of black soot where Katsuki’s palm had made contact.

Izuku looked down at his chest, then looked back up at Katsuki. He reached up with a thick, scaly hand and nonchalantly brushed the soot away.

“That felt warm, Kacchan,” Izuku said softly, analyzing the sensation. The kinetic force of the blast had been completely absorbed, distributed flawlessly across his osteoderms and dispersed harmlessly into the ground. The thermal energy had barely registered against his insulated hide.

Katsuki stared, his jaw hanging slack. His hands began to shake. He stepped back, looking at his palms, then back at Izuku. It defied his entire understanding of the world. He was the strongest. His explosions hurt people. They broke things.

Why didn’t Deku break?

“You…” Katsuki stammered, infuriated beyond measure. He lunged again, screaming, unleashing a flurry of pops and bangs against Izuku’s stomach, arms, and face. Pop! Bang! Crack!

Izuku just stood there, letting the explosions wash over him like a warm summer rain. He didn't fight back. He didn't raise his fists. He simply existed, absorbing Katsuki’s wrath until the blonde boy collapsed onto his knees, gasping for air, his palms smoking and blistered from overuse.

Izuku knelt down, his heavy armor shifting with a soft, leathery creak. He offered Katsuki a hand.

“Are you done, Kacchan? You’re going to hurt your hands.”

Katsuki swatted the hand away, tears of pure, unadulterated frustration welling in his eyes. From that day on, the dynamic between them shattered and reformed into something entirely unique. Bakugo did not bully Midoriya out of a sense of superiority; he became obsessed with him out of a maddening, festering inferiority. Katsuki equated power to destruction. But what good was destruction if the target refused to be destroyed?

For the next ten years, Katsuki’s singular, driving goal would not just be to surpass All Might, but to make Izuku Midoriya take a single step backward.

And for ten years, he would fail.

Growing up with a Quirk as physically imposing as Dreadnought—as Izuku had officially registered it—shaped his entire worldview.

By the time Izuku was fourteen, he was a physical anomaly. While other middle schoolers were undergoing awkward growth spurts and dealing with acne, Izuku looked like a mythological titan squeezed into a Gakuran uniform. He stood an imposing six-foot-two. His shoulders were incredibly broad, sloping down into arms wrapped in thick, interlocking plates of emerald-green bone and scale. His uniform had to be custom-tailored, entirely backless to accommodate the heavy ridges of spikes that ran down his spine, and cut off at the thighs to allow his massive, prehensile tail free movement.

Because of his sheer mass—weighing in at nearly three hundred and fifty pounds of hyper-dense bone and muscle—Izuku moved with a deliberate, calculated slowness in civilian settings. He was hyper-aware of his surroundings, terrifyingly gentle, always ensuring his heavy tail club didn't accidentally shatter a desk or dent a locker.

Despite his fearsome appearance, the students at Aldera Junior High didn't fear him. They respected him, and occasionally, they were profoundly comforted by him. Izuku was the gentle giant of the school. If a fight broke out, Izuku would simply walk between the combatants and stand there until they tired themselves out against his armor. He spoke softly, always polite, and maintained a sterling academic record.

He was still a hero fanatic. He still carried a burned and battered notebook labeled Hero Analysis for the Future. But his perspective on heroism was vastly different from the societal norm.

Society glorified the "Swords." The attackers. The flashy, high-damage heroes like All Might, Endeavor, and Best Jeanist, whose primary function was to incapacitate the villain as quickly as possible. But Izuku watched the news broadcasts with a critical, analytical eye. He watched heroes dodge attacks, allowing stray blasts of fire or shrapnel to strike civilian buildings behind them. He watched heroes prioritize the defeat of the villain over the immediate shielding of the bystanders.

Swords were necessary, yes. But swords were brittle. Swords drew blood.

Izuku didn't want to be a Sword.

Sitting in his bedroom, surrounded by All Might posters, Izuku would flex his arm, watching the green osteoderms shift and lock together, forming a seamless, impenetrable barrier. He knew the absolute limits of his Quirk because he had tested them rigorously in secret.

He had discovered Kinetic Dispersion. Blunt force trauma was useless against him. If a car hit him at sixty miles an hour, the car would total itself, folding around his body like tinfoil, while Izuku would barely feel a shove. His skeletal structure absorbed and redistributed shockwaves flawlessly.

He had discovered Thermal Insulation. Fire and ice could not penetrate the heavy keratin and bone layers of his armor. He could walk into a burning building and feel nothing more than the sensation of a hot sauna.

And, most intriguingly, he had discovered Ablative Shedding. If a substance stuck to his armor—like a corrosive acid or a sticky resin—he could forcibly flex his dermal layer, causing the outermost plates to instantly pop off and shed like a snake’s skin, revealing a fresh, hardened layer beneath.

He was built to endure. He was built to protect.

"Everyone wants to be the one who punches the villain," Izuku murmured to himself one evening, writing furiously in his notebook. "But someone has to be the wall. Someone has to stand between the monster and the civilians and say, 'You go no further.' I will be the ultimate Shield."

This philosophy was put to the test on a seemingly ordinary Tuesday afternoon, during his final year at Aldera Junior High.

Class was wrapping up. Their homeroom teacher stood at the front of the room, holding a stack of career aptitude papers.

"You're all third-years now," the teacher said, sighing. "It's time to start thinking seriously about your futures. I would hand out these career forms, but... who am I kidding? You're all aiming for the Hero Course, aren't you?"

The classroom erupted in cheers, students showing off their minor Quirks—glowing fingers, elongated necks, small telekinetic displays.

"Yes, yes, you all have wonderful Quirks," the teacher chuckled. "But remember, UA High School is the real deal. In fact, we have two students aiming for UA this year."

The room went quiet.

"Bakugo, of course," the teacher noted.

Katsuki, sitting with his feet kicked up on his desk, scoffed arrogantly. "Don't lump me in with these bottom-feeders. I scored mock test results that'll put me right into the Hero Course. I'm the only one here with the raw destructive power to surpass All Might!"

"And," the teacher continued, unfazed by Katsuki's outburst, "Midoriya is also applying for UA."

The class turned their attention to the back of the room. Izuku was sitting quietly, his massive frame dwarfing his heavily reinforced, steel-framed desk. His thick green tail was coiled neatly around the base of his chair. He didn't look up from his notebook, simply giving a slow, polite nod.

No one laughed. No one mocked him. Anyone with eyes knew that Izuku Midoriya was built like a living tank.

But Katsuki's eye twitched. His hands sparked violently. In a flash of speed, Katsuki vaulted over his desk, storming down the aisle and slamming his palms onto Izuku's desk, unleashing a localized explosion that turned the wooden surface to splinters.

"Deku!" Katsuki snarled, the smoke clearing to reveal Izuku, who hadn't even blinked, a stray splinter bouncing harmlessly off his scaly cheek. "You think you can compete with me?! You don't even fight! You just stand there like a glorified punching bag! A hero has to defeat villains! You can't even throw a punch!"

Izuku slowly looked up, his reptilian eyes locking onto Katsuki's furious crimson ones. It was true. Izuku rarely threw punches. His arms were too heavy and thick to possess the snapping velocity of a boxer. But his strength was in his stance, and his weapon was his tail.

"I don't need to throw a punch, Kacchan," Izuku rumbled softly, his voice a deep baritone that vibrated in the chests of everyone nearby. "I just need to outlast them. And I intend to outlast everything."

Katsuki growled, leaning in closer. "I'm gonna tear that stupid armor off you at UA. I'll blow you to pieces."

"You're welcome to try," Izuku replied, utterly unbothered. "But you're just going to break your own hands, Kacchan. Like always."

Katsuki screamed in frustration, storming out of the classroom. The rest of the students exchanged uneasy glances. Izuku sighed, dusting the ash off his notebook, and slowly stood up. It was time to go home.

The route home took Izuku under a gloomy, shaded overpass. It was a shortcut he often took to avoid the crowded streets; his sheer size often resulted in him accidentally bumping into pedestrians, which led to a litany of deep, rumbling apologies.

As he walked, listening to the heavy thwack, thwack of his tail club tapping gently against the concrete behind him, the grating of a manhole cover shifting echoed through the tunnel.

Izuku stopped. His senses, slightly heightened by his reptilian mutation, caught the foul stench of raw sewage and rotting garbage.

From the manhole, a massive, gelatinous mass of dark green sludge erupted. It swelled and twisted, forming two massive, bulbous eyes and a jagged, gaping maw filled with semi-solid, filthy teeth. The Sludge Villain loomed over Izuku, chuckling with a wet, gurgling sound.

"Well, well, well," the villain hissed, its voice echoing in the underpass. "A meat shield of medium size. Perfect. I need a body to hide in, and yours looks incredibly durable. Don't worry, kid. It'll only hurt for about forty-five seconds... and then, you'll be my puppet!"

The villain lunged, a tidal wave of suffocating sludge surging forward to engulf the teenager.

A normal civilian would have run, screamed, or frozen in terror. A normal hero-in-training would have tried to dodge or attack.

Izuku did neither.

In a fraction of a second, Izuku's mind processed the threat. The villain was entirely fluid. Physical attacks from his tail club would likely pass right through it, causing minimal damage. The villain's primary goal was asphyxiation and internal possession.

Threat assessment: Suffocation, Izuku thought, his mind moving with clinical precision. Countermeasure: Fortress Mode.

As the sludge crashed over him, completely enveloping his head, torso, and arms, Izuku planted his feet wide. He dug his heavy boots into the concrete, gripping the earth. He pulled his arms in close to his chest.

And then, he tapped into the deepest, most primal aspect of his mutation.

Crocodilians possessed a palatal valve—a flap of skin at the back of their throat that allowed them to open their mouths underwater without drowning, effectively sealing off their airways and digestive tract. Izuku possessed a hyper-evolved version of this.

He snapped his mouth shut, flexing the internal muscles of his throat. The palatal valve locked into place with an audible, internal click. His nasal passages sealed tightly. His heart rate voluntarily plummeted, slowing down to conserve oxygen. He could hold his breath under intense physical exertion for upwards of twenty minutes.

Externally, he flexed every muscle in his back and chest. His osteoderms shifted, sliding over one another like the plates of a blast door, locking together to form a seamless, airtight shell. The pale-yellow skin of his stomach hardened, becoming as dense as steel.

The Sludge Villain forced its way into Izuku's nose and mouth, attempting to flood his lungs. It hit the palatal valve and stopped.

"What?!" the villain gurgled in confusion, swirling around Izuku's face. "What's going on? Open your mouth, you little brat! Let me in!"

Izuku remained entirely still. His eyes were closed, protected by thick, scaly eyelids. He felt the cold, vile pressure of the sludge, but he felt no panic. He was an impenetrable bunker. The enemy was outside, and the doors were locked. All he had to do was wait.

Frustrated, the villain tried a different tactic. If he couldn't drown the boy from the inside, he would crush him from the outside. The sludge condensed, tightening around Izuku like an anaconda, applying thousands of pounds of pressure per square inch.

"I'll squeeze the breath right out of you!" the villain roared.

The pressure mounted. The concrete beneath Izuku's boots began to crack and spiderweb from the immense downward force. Yet, inside the cocoon of sludge, Izuku's bones didn't even groan. His kinetic dispersion network absorbed the constricting force, channeling the kinetic energy harmlessly down his spine and into the ground.

After thirty seconds, the villain realized its crushing attack was doing absolutely nothing. The kid felt like a solid pillar of titanium.

Panic began to set in for the villain. "Why won't you break?! Die! Just die!"

The villain formed a massive, jagged mouth of hardened sludge and bit down viciously on Izuku's shoulder armor.

CRACK.

The sound echoed loudly in the tunnel. But it wasn't Izuku's armor that broke. The villain screamed in agony as its hardened sludge-teeth shattered upon impact with the emerald osteoderms.

Izuku, realizing the villain was distracted by its own pain, finally decided to move. He couldn't punch the fluid, but he could weaponize his environment.

Still holding his breath, Izuku braced his legs and swung his torso. His massive, bone-clubbed tail whipped around with terrifying velocity. It didn't aim for the villain. It aimed for the concrete wall of the underpass.

SMASH!

The club struck the wall with the force of a wrecking ball. The impact generated a localized shockwave that rippled through the air. The sheer kinetic reverberation traveled through the sludge, disrupting the villain's fluid form, causing it to ripple and lose its grip.

Izuku swung again. SMASH!

The villain shrieked as the concussive force began to tear its liquid body apart. "Stop! Stop doing that! You're gonna bring the bridge down on us, you maniac!"

Izuku knew exactly what he was doing. He had calculated the structural integrity of the bridge; it could withstand the blows, but the air pressure generated by the strikes was creating a sonic disruption against the fluid villain.

Izuku prepared to swing a third time, but suddenly, the manhole cover down the street blew entirely off its hinges, clattering loudly against the ceiling of the tunnel.

Heavy, rapid footsteps approached at an unimaginable speed.

"Fear not, young man!" a voice boomed, echoing with an authority that seemed to command the very air itself to still. "For I am here!"

The Sludge Villain froze, its bulbous eyes widening in sheer terror. "All... All Might?!"

Through the dim light of the underpass, the towering, muscular silhouette of the Symbol of Peace emerged. All Might's blue eyes locked onto the mass of sludge engulfing the young teenager. Seeing the boy trapped, seemingly suffocating, All Might pulled his massive right arm back, the muscles bulging beneath his white t-shirt.

"TEXAS..." All Might roared, stepping forward and unleashing a punch of catastrophic proportions. "...SMASH!"

He didn't even hit the villain. The sheer air pressure generated by the swing created a localized hurricane within the tunnel. The gale-force winds hit the Sludge Villain like a solid wall of steel.

The villain's liquid form was instantly obliterated, scattered into a million droplets of slime that splattered violently against the walls and ceiling of the underpass.

The wind pressure was so immense that it tore street signs from their posts and sent debris flying. A normal person would have been picked up and thrown dozens of yards by the gale.

But Izuku simply dug his boots in a little deeper. The wind washed over his heavy armor, whistling through his dorsal spikes, but he didn't move an inch. As the storm subsided, Izuku calmly opened his eyes, unlocked his palatal valve, and took a deep, refreshing breath of air.

He raised a scaly hand and nonchalantly wiped a stray glob of sludge off his cheek.

All Might stood at the end of the tunnel, panting slightly, expecting to see a terrified, gasping civilian collapse to the floor in shock. Instead, he watched as the towering, armored teenager shook himself off, like a dog shaking off water.

"Thank you," Izuku said, his voice deep and rumbling. He looked down at the scattered sludge. "I could have outlasted him, but capturing him would have been difficult given his fluid morphology. Your wind-pressure tactic was highly efficient."

All Might blinked, utterly taken aback. The Number One Hero had saved thousands of people in his career. Usually, they cried. Sometimes they fainted. Often, they stared in awe. Rarely did they offer a calm, tactical critique of his rescue methods while standing completely unfazed.

"Ah... you're welcome, young man!" All Might boomed, masking his surprise with his trademark laugh. "Are you unharmed? That villain had quite a grip on you! Most people would have suffocated!"

Izuku reached into his pocket, pulling out his Hero Analysis notebook, which had miraculously survived the encounter thanks to being pressed against his armor. "I can hold my breath for over twenty minutes due to a secondary crocodilian mutation in my respiratory system. The pressure he applied was negligible. My osteoderms distribute kinetic force. I was never in any real danger."

All Might stared at the boy. The sheer density of the kid's presence was staggering.

"I see," All Might said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out two empty two-liter soda bottles. He moved in a blur, scooping up the scattered remnants of the Sludge Villain and sealing them tight. "Well, your resilience is truly impressive! I must be off now, to deliver this scoundrel to the police!"

"Wait," Izuku said, taking a heavy step forward. Thud.

All Might paused. "Yes? Do you require an autograph? I'm afraid I am in a bit of a rush..."

"An autograph would be appreciated," Izuku said, holding out the notebook and a pen. "But I actually have a question for you. One that I need the Number One Hero to answer."

All Might, sensing the sudden, heavy seriousness in the boy's tone, obliged. He took the notebook, signed his name across a two-page spread with blinding speed, and handed it back. "Ask away, young man. But make it quick!"

Izuku took the notebook, his green eyes locking onto All Might's shadowed gaze. There was no fanboyish hesitation. No stuttering. Just the calm, unyielding inquiry of a mind that had spent a decade preparing for a specific path.

"Hero society prioritizes destructive power," Izuku stated, his voice echoing evenly in the tunnel. "The ability to incapacitate villains quickly. But every time a villain is struck with overwhelming force, there is collateral damage. People get hurt in the crossfire. Heroes dodge, and the attack hits the street behind them."

All Might stiffened slightly, a bead of sweat forming on his brow. The boy was incredibly perceptive.

"My Quirk," Izuku continued, tapping a dense, armored knuckle against his chest plate. Tink, tink. "Has virtually zero offensive capability. I cannot shoot fire. I cannot move at supersonic speeds. I am slow, and I am heavy. But I cannot be broken. I can take any blow, absorb any impact, and shield anyone behind me."

Izuku stepped closer, looking up at the towering hero.

"All Might. Can someone whose only power is to endure... stand on the same stage as someone who destroys? Can an impenetrable shield become a Pro Hero?"

For a long moment, the tunnel was dead silent, save for the distant rumble of traffic above.

All Might looked at the boy. Really looked at him. He saw the scuff marks on the green armor, the raw, undeniable mass of the teenager, and the unwavering, stoic determination in his eyes. All Might knew better than anyone the cost of being a "Sword." Beneath his baggy clothes, a horrific, festering wound on his side served as a daily reminder that even the strongest swords eventually break.

Society relied on him to smash the villains. But who shielded the people when the Symbol of Peace wasn't fast enough?

All Might's signature smile softened into something far more genuine, something almost solemn.

"Young man," All Might said, his voice losing some of its booming theatricality, dropping into a tone of absolute sincerity. "A hero's true worth is not measured by how hard they can hit. It is measured by how much they are willing to bear for the sake of others."

All Might placed a massive hand on Izuku's armored shoulder. He felt the sheer, unyielding density of the boy's frame. It was like resting his hand on a mountain.

"There will always be those who destroy," All Might continued softly. "But a shield that refuses to break? A wall that stands between the innocent and the monsters? That is the most heroic calling of all. Yes, young man. You can become a hero. In fact, society is in desperate need of a shield exactly like you."

Izuku didn't cry. The mutation had dulled the overactive tear ducts he might have otherwise had. But he felt a deep, profound warmth bloom in his chest. The validation from the man he respected most locked into place like a final piece of armor over his heart.

"Thank you, All Might," Izuku rumbled, bowing his head slightly in respect.

"Aim high, young man!" All Might cheered, reverting to his boisterous persona. He squatted down, preparing to leap. "I look forward to seeing your impenetrable spirit in the future! PLUS ULTRA!"

With a deafening BOOM, All Might leapt into the sky, leaving a crater in the concrete and soaring over the city skyline, clutching the bottles of sludge.

Izuku stood alone in the tunnel. He looked down at the signature in his notebook, tracing the bold ink with a scaly finger.

The path was set. He would apply to UA High School. He wouldn't try to out-punch Katsuki, or out-speed the robotic villains in the entrance exams. He would simply do what he was born to do.

He would walk onto the battlefield, plant his feet, and refuse to be moved.

With a slow, heavy turn, Izuku Midoriya began the walk home, his tail thudding rhythmically behind him. The boy who couldn't be broken was going to UA, and the hero world would never be the same.

The ten months leading up to the UA High School Entrance Exam were, for most aspiring heroes, a frantic scramble of physical conditioning and Quirk counseling. For Izuku Midoriya, it was an exercise in refining a force of nature.

Two days after the incident with the Sludge Villain, Izuku found himself standing at the edge of Dagobah Municipal Beach Park. Or rather, what used to be a beach. Over the years, the ocean currents and illegal dumping had transformed the pristine coastline into a towering, festering labyrinth of rusted appliances, rotting tires, and jagged scrap metal.

Izuku stood at the perimeter, the sea breeze whistling through the heavy, dark-green spikes that lined his spine. He was wearing an oversized grey tracksuit, specially modified to leave his back and tail exposed.

"It's a tragedy, isn't it?" a booming, familiar voice called out over the sound of the crashing waves.

Izuku didn't flinch. He slowly turned his massive, armored frame to see a skeletal, blonde-haired man in a baggy white t-shirt and cargo pants stepping out from behind a rusted refrigerator. To anyone else, the man looked like a sickly civilian. But Izuku recognized the sharp, piercing blue eyes and the unruly tufts of blonde hair instantly.

"All Might," Izuku rumbled politely, dipping his head in a slight bow.

"Toshinori Yagi, in this form, young man," the Number One Hero corrected with a soft, weary smile, patting his hollow stomach. "I see my words the other day resonated with you. You're looking for a place to train, I presume?"

Izuku nodded, his gaze sweeping over the mountains of trash. "I have the mass, and I have the durability. But dragging three hundred and fifty pounds of hyper-dense bone and scale around requires an immense cardiovascular engine. If I am to act as a shield for others, I cannot afford to tire out while the battle is still raging. I came here to build my stamina."

Toshinori walked up to stand beside the armored teenager, looking out at the trash. "I came here for a similar reason, actually. I am currently in the process of looking for a successor. Someone to inherit my... legacy." Toshinori deliberately kept the secret of One For All vague, but he cast a sidelong glance at Izuku.

"You possess a hero's heart, Young Midoriya. That much was evident when you stood your ground in that tunnel. But your path... it is fundamentally different from mine. My power is absolute destruction for the sake of peace. If I were to grant you my kind of power..."

"My skeletal structure would likely handle the recoil," Izuku interrupted thoughtfully, his mind immediately dissecting the physics of the hypothetical. "However, applying immense forward momentum to a body designed for static kinetic dispersion would create conflicting kinetic vectors. It would be like strapping a jet engine to a bunker. I wouldn't be able to steer, and the sheer mass of my body colliding with a villain at high speeds would be lethal to them. I do not wish to be lethal, Yagi-san. I wish to be immovable."

Toshinori stared at the boy, a mixture of awe and immense respect washing over him. The kid was fourteen years old, yet he spoke with the tactical pragmatism of a veteran Pro Hero. Toshinori had briefly wondered if Midoriya could be a candidate for One For All, but the boy had just articulated exactly why it would be a terrible match. Midoriya was not meant to be the next All Might.

He was meant to be the first Izuku Midoriya.

"Then let us hone that bunker," Toshinori smiled, a genuine, blinding expression even in his emaciated form. "I may not be able to pass my power to you, but I can certainly pass on my experience. How do you intend to clear this beach, Young Midoriya?"

Izuku stepped forward, approaching a rusted, dilapidated pickup truck half-buried in the sand.

"Most people would try to carry the objects one by one," Izuku stated calmly. He planted his feet, his thick legs anchoring into the sand. "But that is inefficient. To maximize my stamina and practice my spatial control..."

Izuku pivoted on his right foot, torquing his hips. His massive, bone-clubbed tail whipped around with terrifying velocity.

CRUNCH!

The heavy tail struck the side of the truck. The impact was deafening. The rusted metal buckled and collapsed inward, folding like origami. Izuku didn't stop. He unleashed a flurry of calculated, devastating tail-strikes, moving with a rhythmic, hypnotic grace that completely belied his massive size. Thwack. Crunch. Smash.

Within thirty seconds, the entire pickup truck had been compacted into a dense, misshapen cube of scrap metal a quarter of its original size.

Izuku then leaned down, his thick, scaly arms wrapping around the compacted cube. With a heavy grunt, he hoisted the two-ton block of metal onto his shoulders, his boots sinking inches into the sand beneath the staggering weight.

"I will condense the trash to increase its density, and then carry the compacted mass to the disposal zones," Izuku finished, his breathing steady despite the immense load on his back. "It trains my tail precision, my carrying capacity, and my cardiovascular endurance simultaneously."

Toshinori threw his head back and laughed, a rich, joyous sound that echoed over the beach. "Brilliant! Simply brilliant! Then I shall act as your spotter and coach, Young Midoriya! Let us forge this shield of yours in the fires of hard labor!"

For the next ten months, Dagobah Beach became Izuku's crucible.

Every morning before sunrise, and every evening after school, Izuku was there. His training was divided into three distinct phases, meticulously designed to maximize his unique physiology.

Phase One was Stamina and Load-Bearing. Under Toshinori's watchful eye, Izuku hauled unimaginable weights. As the months progressed, the compacted cubes of trash grew larger. Izuku dragged them through the deep, shifting sands—an exercise that forced his calves and thighs to adapt to maintaining a low center of gravity under extreme duress. Toshinori would occasionally throw sudden obstacles in his path, forcing Izuku to adapt his footing without dropping his cargo.

Phase Two was Spatial Awareness. A shield was useless if it didn't know where the threat was coming from. Because of his heavy armor, Izuku's peripheral vision was slightly restricted by his bulky shoulder plates, and turning his head quickly was difficult. To counter this, Toshinori devised a grueling drill. The Number One Hero, in his muscle form, would zip around the junkyard at blinding speeds, hurling small, harmless objects—pebbles, tennis balls, empty cans—at a designated target (usually a fragile glass bottle) that Izuku had to protect.

At first, Izuku struggled. He couldn't move fast enough to block everything. But as the months wore on, Izuku stopped trying to chase the projectiles. He started reading the environment. He learned to track the sound of Toshinori's footsteps, the shifting of the wind, the subtle changes in air pressure. He learned to predict where the attack would land, stepping into the trajectory before the object was even thrown. He became a master of positioning.

Phase Three was Tail Mastery. Izuku's tail was his primary means of interacting with the world aggressively, but a blunt instrument of that size was inherently dangerous. If he swung it wildly in a populated area, the collateral damage would be catastrophic.

He spent hours practicing what he called 'Variable Force Swings'. He would line up an egg, a watermelon, and a concrete block. With continuous, sweeping motions of his tail, he learned to shatter the concrete block, crack the watermelon open without smashing the bottom half, and gently tap the egg just enough to spin it without breaking the shell. He mastered the exact muscular contractions needed to halt his tail club millimeters away from a target.

Back at Aldera Junior High, Katsuki Bakugo watched Izuku's slow, undeniable physical refinement with a boiling mixture of rage and obsession.

Izuku had always been massive since his Quirk manifested, but as the end of the ten months approached, there was a dense, corded lethality to him. His green scales seemed to gleam with a polished, obsidian-like hardness. His posture was impeccable. When Katsuki screamed at him, or slammed his explosive palms onto Izuku's desk, Izuku no longer just stood there and took it. He simply adjusted his stance slightly, allowing Katsuki's kinetic energy to slide harmlessly off his armored slopes, essentially nullifying the blonde's presence entirely.

"You're getting cocky, Deku!" Katsuki spat one afternoon, cornering Izuku in the hallway. "You think whatever you're doing after school is gonna make a difference? The UA entrance exam is about destroying villains! You can't just stand there and pass!"

Izuku looked down at Katsuki, his reptilian eyes cool and analytical. "I don't plan on just standing there, Kacchan. I plan on holding the line. And you are welcome to watch me."

The sheer lack of intimidation, the utter absence of fear in Izuku's voice, drove Katsuki insane. It was a promise.

By the morning of the UA Entrance Exam, Dagobah Beach was entirely spotless. The golden sands stretched out to meet the pristine ocean, glowing in the early morning light. Toshinori stood at the seawall, watching proudly as the towering, armored teenager looked out over the horizon.

"You did it, Young Midoriya," Toshinori said warmly. "You have built a fortress worthy of UA."

Izuku flexed his hands, listening to the satisfying clack-clack of his osteoderms locking into place perfectly. "Thank you, Yagi-san. For everything."

"Now go," Toshinori grinned. "Show them the immovable object."

The campus of UA High School was gargantuan, a sprawling testament to the pinnacle of hero society. As Izuku walked through the front gates, the sheer width of the pathways easily accommodated his massive frame, though he still drew stares from nearly every applicant present.

Whispers rippled through the crowd.

Look at the size of that guy.

Is his Quirk a mutant type? He looks like a dinosaur.

I wouldn't want to get hit by that tail...

Izuku ignored them, keeping his breathing steady, his tail swaying in a controlled, rhythmic arc behind him. He was focused entirely on his internal equilibrium.

Suddenly, a girl with a brown bob and permanent blush on her cheeks tripped over her own feet slightly ahead of him. She pitched forward, bracing for a harsh impact with the concrete.

Before Izuku even had to think, his spatial awareness took over. His heavy tail whipped forward with pinpoint precision, sliding smoothly beneath the girl's torso just inches before she hit the ground. The smooth, flat edge of his bone club caught her gently, supporting her weight without bruising her.

The girl gasped, floating for a second before realizing she wasn't falling. She looked back, her eyes widening as she traced the massive tail up to the towering, armored giant behind her.

"Woah," she breathed out. "Uh, thanks!"

Izuku carefully lifted his tail, righting her onto her feet before pulling the appendage back to his side. "You're welcome. It would be unfortunate to suffer an injury before the exam even begins. Please watch your step."

"I'm Uraraka Ochako!" she beamed, entirely unintimidated by his fearsome appearance. "Your Quirk is amazing! You have super-fast reflexes!"

"Midoriya Izuku," he rumbled politely. "And it's less about reflexes, and more about predicting trajectories. Good luck in the exam, Uraraka-san."

He gave her a slight bow and continued toward the auditorium, leaving a slightly starry-eyed Uraraka in his wake.

Inside the massive auditorium, the seats were a tight squeeze for Izuku. He had to sit at the end of a row, his tail curling around the base of his chair, his broad shoulders spilling out into the aisle. Katsuki sat a few seats over, glaring daggers at the presentation stage.

The Voice Hero, Present Mic, exploded onto the stage, detailing the parameters of the practical exam. It was a mock urban battle. Applicants would be destroying robotic 'villains' assigned point values from one to three.

Suddenly, a tall, stern-looking boy with glasses bolted upright in the front row, his hand chopping the air rigidly.

"Excuse me! On the printout, there are four types of villains! If this is a misprint, UA, the most prominent hero academy in Japan, should be ashamed of that foolish mistake!" The boy then turned around, his eyes scanning the crowd before locking onto Izuku. "And you! The large applicant in the back! Your sheer size and the sound of your heavy breathing are distracting! If you cannot control your mutation in a professional setting, you should leave!"

A hush fell over the auditorium. Most teenagers would shrink back in embarrassment. Katsuki smirked, hoping Izuku would get humiliated.

Instead, Izuku calmly stood up. His massive frame blocked out the light from the projectors for the students behind him. The entire auditorium felt the subtle vibration of his weight shifting. He looked down at the bespectacled boy with a neutral, unflinching gaze.

"I apologize if my biology offends you," Izuku's deep voice resonated through the massive room without the need for a microphone, drowning out the whispers. "However, my breathing is a regulated technique designed to maximize oxygen efficiency for a body of this density. As for the fourth robot, if you allow Present Mic to finish his presentation, I am certain a hero of his caliber has not made a misprint, but was building dramatic tension. Please sit down."

The bespectacled boy—Tenya Iida—flushed bright red, realizing he had just interrupted a Pro Hero to complain about a fellow student's biology. "I... I see. My apologies for jumping to conclusions!" Iida bowed stiffly and sat down.

Present Mic blinked behind his sunglasses, a massive grin spreading across his face. "THANKS FOR THE ASSIST, LISTENER! YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD! The fourth robot is worth ZERO points! It's an obstacle! If you see it, don't fight it, just run away!"

An obstacle that forces you to run away, Izuku thought, noting the information in his mind. A test of threat assessment and situational awareness.

Ten minutes later, Izuku stood before the towering gates of Battle Center B. He was surrounded by dozens of other applicants, all bouncing on the balls of their feet, stretching, and psyching themselves up. Izuku stood entirely still, a mountain among foothills. He spotted Uraraka nearby, taking deep breaths, and Iida, who was aggressively stretching his calves.

"START!" Present Mic's voice suddenly shrieked from the speakers.

The crowd hesitated for a fraction of a second. But Izuku didn't. He didn't sprint—sprinting was inefficient for his build. He leaned forward and began a heavy, earth-shaking stride. Thud. Thud. Thud. He cleared the gates first, his momentum undeniable.

"WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! THERE ARE NO COUNTDOWNS IN REAL BATTLES! RUN, RUN, RUN!"

The crowd surged into the mock city.

As Izuku rounded the first corner, three One-Pointer robots rolled out from an alleyway. Their optical sensors flashed red. Target acquired.

The applicants behind Izuku readied their Quirks, preparing to dodge and counterattack. But Izuku didn't dodge.

"Aggro established," Izuku murmured to himself.

He stepped directly into the center of the street, making himself the largest, most obvious target. The One-Pointers opened fire, launching a volley of rubber-tipped missiles and laser blasts directly at him.

"Hey, watch out!" a student yelled, expecting the green-armored giant to be blown away.

The missiles impacted Izuku's chest and shoulders in a cascade of smoke and fire. The lasers struck his pale-yellow abdomen.

The smoke cleared immediately. Izuku was still walking forward, completely unharmed. His kinetic dispersion plates had swallowed the blunt force of the missiles entirely, and his thermal insulation had neutralized the heat of the lasers.

The robots paused, their rudimentary AI struggling to process the lack of damage.

That pause was all Izuku needed. He planted his left foot, swinging his massive hips. His tail club lashed out, striking the lead robot squarely in its delicate knee joint. The joint shattered like glass, toppling the machine instantly. Without breaking the fluid motion of his swing, Izuku let the momentum carry the club into a 360-degree sweep, smashing the chassis of the second and third robots, crushing their central processors into sparking scrap metal.

Three points.

Izuku didn't stop to admire his work. He kept moving.

For the next ten minutes, Izuku Midoriya became a walking wrecking ball. He didn't actively hunt the robots; he simply walked toward the densest clusters of conflict. Wherever other applicants were overwhelmed, Izuku appeared.

He operated on a terrifyingly simple philosophy: Let them hit me.

A Two-Pointer attempted to crush Iida with a massive steel fist. Izuku stepped directly over Iida, crossing his thick, armored arms over his head. The robot's fist slammed into Izuku's forearms with a sickening CLANG, warping the robot's own metal hand. Izuku then swatted the robot aside with a casual flick of his tail, shattering its treads.

"You're welcome," Izuku rumbled, stepping away before Iida could even utter a word of thanks.

He found a group of applicants pinned down by a squad of Three-Pointers. Izuku waded into the crossfire, casually absorbing dozens of projectiles. The robots, programmed to attack the most immediate and resilient threat, concentrated all their fire on him, ignoring the other students.

"Move up while they are reloading," Izuku ordered the stunned applicants, acting as a mobile barricade. Once the applicants were safe, Izuku anchor-dropped his center of gravity and unleashed a horizontal tail-whip that cleaved through the legs of four Three-Pointers simultaneously, dropping them in a heap of tangled metal.

In the observation room hidden deep within UA, the faculty of Pro Heroes watched the monitors in stunned silence.

"Look at the data feed on Applicant Midoriya," the vampiric hero Vlad King muttered, leaning over a glowing screen. "His blunt force resistance is off the charts. He's taken forty direct missile strikes and hasn't suffered a single micro-fracture."

"It's not just his durability," the underground hero Eraserhead (Shota Aizawa) observed, his tired eyes narrowing. "Look at his tactical positioning. He's purposefully drawing aggression. He's intentionally placing himself in the line of fire to create openings for the others. He's an 'Aggro Tank' in the purest sense. He's racking up villain points, but he's also acting as a perfect defensive support."

"He's got the makings of an incredible rescue hero," the space hero Thirteen chimed in, clapping her puffy hands.

"Let's see how the immovable object handles an unstoppable force," the principal, a small white animal named Nezu, chimed with a sadistic gleam in his black eyes. He slammed a large red button on his console.

Back in Battle Center B, the ground suddenly heaved.

Izuku paused, his heavy boots sinking slightly into the cracking asphalt. A shadow fell over the mock city, blotting out the sun.

At the end of the main thoroughfare, a massive skyscraper exploded outward. From the dust and rubble emerged the Zero Pointer. It wasn't just a robot; it was a mechanical titan, easily standing hundreds of feet tall, rolling forward on treads the size of city blocks. Its singular, glowing red eye swept over the streets.

The sheer scale of the machine triggered immediate, primal panic in the applicants.

"Run! It's the Zero Pointer!"

"Are they insane?! That thing will kill us!"

The crowd of teenagers broke, turning and fleeing in absolute terror. Izuku stood his ground, observing the machine. Nezu-san was not lying. It is an obstacle. Engaging it yields no points. The logical choice is retreat.

Izuku prepared to turn around and begin a steady, controlled withdrawal. But as his reptilian eyes scanned the retreating crowd, his heightened spatial awareness caught a discrepancy. A pile of rubble had fallen near the edge of the street, and trapped beneath a slab of concrete was Uraraka.

She was struggling frantically, her leg pinned, watching the massive tread of the Zero Pointer rolling directly toward her.

Izuku's mind raced. He calculated the speed of the machine, the distance to Uraraka, and the weight of the debris.

I cannot reach her in time to lift the rubble and pull her clear. The tread will crush her before I can finish the extraction.

He had three seconds.

Most heroes would panic. They would try to attack the robot, firing blasts that would do nothing against its armor, hoping to distract it.

Izuku did not panic. He realized there was only one tactical solution. If he couldn't move the victim out of the path of destruction, he had to stop the destruction from reaching the victim.

Izuku broke into a sprint.

The heavy, thunderous BOOM, BOOM, BOOM of his footfalls shook the street, fighting against the rumbling of the massive robot. He charged straight toward Uraraka, but he didn't stop at her side.

Instead, he kept running, throwing himself directly underneath the descending, shadow-casting tread of the Zero Pointer.

In the observation room, the Pro Heroes shot out of their seats.

"What is he doing?!" Present Mic screamed. "He'll be crushed to paste!"

Aizawa's hand hovered over the emergency abort button.

Beneath the tread, Izuku stopped exactly three feet in front of Uraraka. He looked up at the ceiling of steel descending upon him. Millions of pounds of force.

Fortress Mode.

Izuku didn't just brace himself; he fundamentally altered his physiology. He dug his boots through the asphalt, burying his feet deep into the compacted earth and bedrock beneath the street. He dropped into a deep, wide horse stance, lowering his center of gravity until it was practically glued to the floor.

He crossed his arms over his chest, tucking his chin. He flexed every single muscle in his body simultaneously.

Click-clack-lock.

His osteoderms snapped together, forming a completely seamless, interlocking dome of emerald bone over his back, shoulders, and neck. His spine compressed, locking into an inflexible, hyper-dense pillar. He sealed his palatal valve, trapping the air in his lungs to pressurize his internal cavities, preventing his organs from rupturing under extreme compression.

He ceased to be a boy. He became a living pillar of titanium.

The tread of the Zero Pointer came down.

CRASH!

The impact was apocalyptic. A massive shockwave of dust and displaced air exploded outward, shattering the windows of the surrounding mock buildings. The deafening sound of groaning metal and cracking earth echoed across the entire Battle Center.

Uraraka screamed, throwing her arms over her head, expecting the end.

But the darkness didn't crush her.

She opened her eyes, coughing through the dust. The massive steel tread was hovering just inches above her head.

Directly in front of her, bearing the apocalyptic weight of the Zero Pointer, was Izuku Midoriya.

He was buried up to his knees in the shattered asphalt. The muscles in his legs were bulging so violently they looked ready to tear. His scaly skin was flushed dark red with extreme blood pressure. The sound of metal screaming filled the air as the underbelly of the tread ground against his back plates, showering him in sparks.

But he was holding it.

He was holding thousands of tons of metal on his back, forming a living, breathing bridge over Uraraka's trapped body.

In the observation room, Aizawa slowly pulled his hand away from the abort button, his jaw slightly open. "He's... he's supporting the structural weight of the entire forward chassis."

"His kinetic dispersion..." All Might whispered from the back of the room, his eyes wide in his skeletal form. "He's funneling the weight of the machine straight down his spine and into the bedrock. He is channeling the earth itself."

Underneath the tread, Izuku's vision was swimming. The pressure was agonizing. His armor wasn't cracking, but the sheer load was pushing his internal endurance to its absolute limits. He couldn't hold it forever. The tread would eventually grind him down into the dirt, and Uraraka would be crushed.

He needed to topple it.

He couldn't use his arms or his back—they were entirely locked into supporting the weight. But his tail was free.

The massive bone-club lay flat against the ground behind him. With an agonizing, slow intake of breath through his nose, Izuku channeled every ounce of remaining torque in his hips. He couldn't swing it in an arc, so he utilized a linear thrust.

Like a piston firing from an engine block, Izuku shot his tail straight backward.

The bone club slammed directly into the primary hydraulic joint that connected the front tread to the main chassis of the Zero Pointer.

BANG.

The joint shuddered. Izuku pulled the tail back and thrust it again, harder this time.

BANG!

A hairline fracture appeared in the robot's thick steel casing.

One more... Izuku thought, the edges of his vision going black. Give it everything!

With a guttural, terrifying roar that sounded more like a prehistoric beast than a teenager, Izuku launched his tail backward with world-shattering force.

CRACK-SHATTER!

The bone club smashed through the steel casing, utterly pulverizing the hydraulic pistons and the central axle of the front tread.

The structural integrity of the Zero Pointer failed instantaneously.

Without its front support, the massive machine pitched forward, its center of gravity completely compromised. The sheer weight of the upper torso caused the robot to catastrophically lose balance.

With a deafening groan, the Zero Pointer tipped off its broken tread, falling sideways and crashing into the mock city with the force of an earthquake. Dust plumed hundreds of feet into the air.

Silence descended upon Battle Center B.

The dust slowly began to settle. The applicants, who had stopped running to watch the spectacle, stared in slack-jawed disbelief at the fallen titan.

In the center of the crater, amidst the shattered asphalt and twisted metal, Izuku slowly uncrossed his arms. He unlocked his spine, taking a long, ragged gasp of air. He pulled his legs out of the craters he had dug into the street.

His armor was scored with deep silver scratches where the tread had ground against him, and he was panting heavily, sweat pooling along his scales. But he was entirely unbroken.

He turned slowly, reaching down to the slab of concrete pinning Uraraka. With a casual heave, he tossed the slab aside, offering his thick, scaly hand to the terrified girl.

"Are you unharmed, Uraraka-san?" he asked, his voice returning to its calm, deep rumble.

"I... you... that... what?!" Uraraka babbled, staring at him like he was a god descended from the heavens. She took his hand, letting him pull her to her feet.

Before Izuku could respond, a loud buzzer echoed across the city.

"TIIIIIME'S UP!" Present Mic's voice rang out.

The exam was over.

Izuku nodded simply, ignoring the staring applicants. He was tired. He needed a high-calorie meal to replenish the energy his body had just burned. Without another word, he began the heavy, rhythmic walk back toward the entrance gates. Thud. Thud. Thud.

One week later, Izuku sat at the kitchen table, methodically consuming his fourth plate of heavily protein-fortified katsudon. His mother, Inko, nervously placed a small, circular metallic disc onto the table.

It bore the crest of UA High School.

"It's here, Izuku," she whispered, her hands shaking.

Izuku finished his bite, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and pressed the button on the device.

A holographic projection flickered to life, projecting the image of All Might in his muscular form.

"I AM HERE AS A PROJECTION!" All Might boomed. Inko squeaked and nearly fainted, holding onto the kitchen counter for support.

Izuku merely blinked, giving the hologram a respectful nod.

"Young Midoriya!" All Might's hologram continued. "You passed the written exam with flying colors! But the practical exam... oh, the practical exam was a spectacle!"

A scoreboard appeared next to All Might's head.

"You scored a respectable 45 Villain Points! Enough to pass on its own! However..." All Might's smile softened, taking on a tone of profound respect. "A hero course that rejects those who put their lives on the line to shield others is no hero course at all! We have a hidden metric! Rescue Points!"

A video feed played, showing Izuku stepping over Iida to take the punch, shielding the group of students from the Three-Pointers, and finally, the breathtaking footage of him catching the tread of the Zero Pointer on his back.

"For acting as the ultimate vanguard. For refusing to yield an inch of ground to save your fellow applicants..."

The scoreboard tallied up.

"Sixty Rescue Points! Giving you a grand total of 105 points! The highest score in UA history!"

All Might extended a hand toward the screen.

"You asked me once if a shield could stand on the same stage as a sword. Welcome, Young Midoriya. This is your hero academia!"

The hologram fizzled out.

Inko burst into a waterfall of tears, throwing her arms around Izuku's massive, armored neck, sobbing into his scales. "I'm so proud of you, Izuku! So proud!"

Izuku gently patted his mother's back with a thick hand. He looked at the empty space where the hologram had been. He felt a quiet, simmering satisfaction in his chest. He hadn't broken. He hadn't yielded.

And next spring, Katsuki Bakugo, along with the rest of Class 1-A, would learn exactly what it meant to face an immovable object.

The first day of high school is traditionally a time of nervous anticipation, awkward introductions, and the desperate hope of fitting in. For Izuku Midoriya, fitting in had never been a biological possibility.

His morning routine alone was a testament to his unique existence. While other teenagers simply slipped into their uniforms and tied their ties, Izuku’s preparation required specialized, heavy-duty clothing. UA High School had graciously provided a custom-tailored uniform to accommodate his massive, three-hundred-and-fifty-pound frame. The crisp gray blazer was entirely backless, securing over his collarbones and wrapping around his thick chest, leaving the heavy, emerald-green spikes along his spine completely unobstructed. The trousers were wide-legged and cut off just above the knee, allowing his massive, prehensile tail free movement without tearing the fabric. Even his shoes were custom—reinforced combat boots with steel toe caps and shock-absorbing soles, designed not to protect his feet, but to protect the school's floorboards from the sheer, crushing weight of his footfalls.

"Do you have everything, Izuku?" Inko Midoriya asked, standing on her tiptoes to straighten his red tie, her hands brushing against the pale-yellow reptilian scales of his chest.

"Yes, Mom," Izuku rumbled softly, his deep baritone vibrating through the small apartment. He carefully patted her head with a massive, clawed hand, his touch impossibly gentle. "I have my notebooks, my schedule, and my emergency rations." (Maintaining his bone density required a staggering six thousand calories a day; his backpack was half-filled with high-protein bento boxes).

"Have a wonderful first day," she smiled, tears welling in her eyes as they always did. "Show them how strong you are."

Izuku nodded, turning and stepping out the door. The commute to UA was an exercise in spatial awareness. He walked to the station, his heavy tail swaying in a rhythmic, controlled arc, gently tapping the concrete with a dull thwack... thwack... thwack. Commuters parted for him instinctively, intimidated by his gargantuan size, but Izuku merely offered polite, respectful nods to anyone he made eye contact with.

When he finally navigated the sprawling, labyrinthine halls of UA and found the towering door labeled 1-A, he paused. He could already hear the shouting from inside.

"Remove your foot from that desk immediately! It is a profound disrespect to the upperclassmen who sat there before us, and to the craftsmen who made it!"

"Hah?! What middle school did you go to, you four-eyed extra? I'll put my feet wherever I want!"

Izuku sighed. The unmistakable screech of Katsuki Bakugo’s voice, arguing with Tenya Iida—the strict, bespectacled boy from the entrance exam auditorium.

Izuku reached out, his thick fingers wrapping around the massive handle, and slid the door open.

The heavy, booming sound of the door sliding on its tracks, followed by the deep, earth-shaking thud of Izuku stepping into the room, silenced the argument instantly. The entire class turned to look.

"Ah!" Iida gasped, his rigid posture snapping into an immediate, sharp bow. "You're the applicant who deduced the true nature of the practical exam! And... you're the one who held up the Zero Pointer! I am Tenya Iida from Somei Private Academy! I must apologize for my behavior during the orientation! I completely misjudged you!"

"It's fine, Iida-san," Izuku replied calmly, stepping fully into the room. His presence seemed to suck all the excess oxygen out of the space. "It was a high-stress environment."

"Wow! It's you!" A cheerful voice piped up. Uraraka Ochako bounced over, her face lighting up. "The giant guy! I never got to properly thank you for saving me! You were amazing under that robot! Like a superhero out of a movie!"

"It was the logical action to take," Izuku said, giving her a small, polite nod. "I'm glad you're uninjured, Uraraka-san."

"Tch. Deku," Katsuki snarled from his desk in the corner, his red eyes narrowing into slits. "Don't think just because you passed some stupid robot test that you're suddenly hot shit. You're still just a walking punching bag."

"Good morning to you too, Kacchan," Izuku replied evenly, entirely unbothered by the hostility. It was white noise to him at this point.

Before anyone else could comment on the bizarre dynamic between the explosive blonde and the scaly titan, a gruff, exhausted voice drifted from the hallway.

"If you're just here to make friends, you can pack up your things and leave."

The class froze as a man resembling a giant yellow caterpillar inched his way into the doorway. The caterpillar unzipped, revealing a disheveled man with tired eyes, unkempt black hair, and a thick scarf made of capturing tape wrapped around his neck.

"I'm Shota Aizawa. Your homeroom teacher. It took you eight seconds to quiet down. Time is a limited resource, and you kids aren't rational enough." He reached into his sleeping bag and pulled out a blue gym uniform. "Put these on and meet me on the P.E. grounds. We're doing a Quirk Apprehension Test."

The P.E. grounds of UA were massive, bathed in the bright morning sun. The class filed out in their blue and white gym uniforms. Once again, Izuku's attire had been heavily modified; the sleeves were torn off to accommodate his massive shoulders, and the back was entirely absent, showcasing the thick, interlocking emerald osteoderms that protected his spine and ribs.

"A Quirk Apprehension Test?!" Uraraka asked, shocked. "But what about the entrance ceremony? And orientation?"

"Heroics doesn't have time for leisurely events," Aizawa stated coldly, standing before the class with a digital tablet in his hand. "UA is a freestyle school. That means I run my class however I see fit. You've been doing standardized tests since junior high, but always with rules forbidding Quirk use. It's irrational."

Aizawa turned his tired gaze toward the explosive blonde. "Bakugo. You finished first in the practical exam. What was your farthest softball throw in junior high?"

"Sixty-seven meters," Katsuki scoffed.

"Try doing it with your Quirk." Aizawa tossed him a baseball. Katsuki caught it, stepping into the chalk circle. "Anything goes, as long as you stay in the circle."

Katsuki grinned ferociously. He wound up, his muscles tensing, and hurled the ball with a deafening scream. "DIE!"

A massive explosion erupted from his palm, propelling the ball into the sky like a mortar shell, leaving a trail of smoke in its wake. Aizawa held up his tablet, showing the score to the class. 705.2 meters.

The class erupted in excitement. "Awesome!" "We get to use our Quirks as much as we want?!" "This looks like so much fun!"

Aizawa's eyes flashed red, his hair floating upward as the capturing tape around his neck slithered like a nest of vipers. "Fun? You have three years to become heroes. Are you going to treat it all like a game?" He glared at the students, instantly silencing them. "Fine. The one who scores lowest across all eight events will be judged as having no potential, and will be expelled."

Gasps rippled through the teenagers. Izuku, however, simply blinked. He analyzed Aizawa's posture, the micro-expressions on his face. A logical ruse, Izuku deduced immediately. He is artificially inflating the stakes to draw out our maximum potential. Efficient.

"Event one. 50-meter dash," Aizawa called out.

Izuku was paired up against Iida. As they stepped up to the starting line, a robotic voice spoke. On your marks. Get set... Go!

Iida's engine calves roared to life, shooting him across the track in a blur of speed. 3.04 seconds! the robot announced.

Izuku didn't run. Sprinting was highly inefficient for his center of gravity. Instead, he employed a technique he had honed on Dagobah Beach. He leaned forward, digging his thick boots into the dirt, and engaged in a heavy, ground-eating, power-walk. Every step shook the earth, his massive thigh muscles pumping with rhythmic, unstoppable momentum. He crossed the finish line like a rolling boulder.

7.95 seconds!

"Not fast," Aizawa muttered, noting it on his tablet. "But his momentum is terrifying. If he hits you at that speed, you'd shatter."

Event Two: Grip Strength.

Izuku stepped up to the digital dynamometer. The device was designed to measure up to several hundred kilograms of force. Izuku wrapped his thick, scaly fingers around the metal grips. He didn't use a sudden, jerky motion. He applied slow, steady, inescapable pressure. The metal began to groan. The digital numbers on the screen whirred violently—100... 300... 600... 900...

With a loud CRACK, the metal casing of the dynamometer warped inward, the digital screen shattering from the internal pressure. Izuku opened his hand, looking down at the broken machine.

"I apologize, Aizawa-sensei," Izuku rumbled. "I appear to have exceeded the machine's structural limits."

A tall boy with multiple arms, Mezo Shoji, who had just scored 540kg, looked at Izuku in awe. Aizawa just sighed, marking down an 'Unmeasurable' on his tablet.

Event Three: Standing Long Jump.

Izuku scored poorly. He was simply too heavy to achieve significant aerial distance, landing with a heavy thud barely three meters from the starting line.

Event Four: Repeated Side Steps.

A short boy with purple balls on his head, Minoru Mineta, bounced rapidly between the lines. Izuku, realizing his lateral agility was his weakest trait due to the sheer width of his shoulders and the weight of his tail, managed a deeply average score.

Aizawa watched the massive boy carefully from the sidelines. Izuku Midoriya. Quirk: Dreadnought. A mutant-class ability offering supreme durability, enhanced strength, and localized kinetic dispersion. My Erasure is completely useless against him; I can't erase a physical mutation. He knows he's slow. He knows he lacks agility. But he doesn't seem frustrated by it. He knows his exact parameters. He is a tactician wrapped in a tank.

Event Five: The Ball Throw.

Uraraka stepped into the circle, tapped the ball, and threw it. It sailed into the sky and never came down. Aizawa showed the tablet: Infinity.

"Alright, Midoriya. You're up," Aizawa called out.

Izuku walked into the chalk circle. He held the small, white baseball in his massive, green-scaled hand. He looked out at the open field. He couldn't explode the ball like Kacchan. He couldn't remove its gravity like Uraraka. Throwing it with his arm would yield a decent result—perhaps around eighty meters, given his raw strength—but human shoulders, even mutated ones, were not designed for maximum velocity throws at his weight.

But he didn't have to throw it.

Izuku turned his back to the field, standing sideways in the circle.

"What is he doing?" a boy with spiky red hair, Eijiro Kirishima, asked. "Why is he facing the wrong way?"

Izuku raised his hand and tossed the baseball gently into the air.

As the ball reached its apex and began to fall, Izuku pivoted on his left heel. He dropped his center of gravity flawlessly, twisting his massive hips. The thick muscles at the base of his spine coiled tight and then released with explosive, devastating torque.

His prehensile tail whipped around like a scythe. The massive bone club at the end of it blurred with sheer velocity, cutting through the air with a loud, whistling woosh.

THWACK!

The impact sounded like a cannon firing. The bone club struck the falling baseball dead center. The kinetic force generated by the swing was so immense that a shockwave kicked up a cloud of dust around the chalk circle.

The ball warped into an oval shape from the sheer pressure before rocketing into the stratosphere. It tore through the sky, breaking the sound barrier with a sharp crack, leaving a visible ripple in the air before disappearing into the clouds.

Izuku slowly brought his tail back to rest, standing perfectly still, his breathing completely even.

The class stared in stunned silence. Aizawa looked down at his tablet, his tired eyes widening a fraction of an inch before he turned the screen to face the class.

589.4 meters.

"Holy crap!" a blonde boy with a black lightning bolt in his hair, Kaminari, yelled. "He batted it! He batted it with his tail!"

"That's a home run if I've ever seen one!" Kirishima grinned, pumping his fist. "So manly!"

Aizawa looked at Izuku. Sheer, unadulterated blunt force trauma. If that tail connects with a human body, it would shatter every bone in their skeleton. Yet he used the exact amount of force to launch the ball without completely obliterating the leather and core on impact. Precision control. He’s the ultimate Aggro Tank.

"DEKU!"

A feral roar shattered the awe. Katsuki Bakugo had seen enough. The idea that Izuku—the boy who never fought back, the boy who just stood there and took his explosions—could generate that kind of offensive force broke his fragile, prideful mind.

Katsuki lunged forward, his palms crackling with explosive sweat. "What the hell was that?! Tell me how you did that, you scaly freak!"

Before Katsuki could cross the distance, a gray scarf shot out, wrapping tightly around his torso and binding his arms to his sides. Aizawa pulled back on the capturing tape, his eyes glowing fiercely red, his hair defying gravity.

"Don't make me use my Quirk," Aizawa hissed. "It gives me dry eye."

Katsuki struggled against the tape, his eyes locked onto Izuku. But Izuku hadn't even flinched. He hadn't raised his hands to defend himself. He just stood there, looking down at Katsuki with that same, infuriatingly calm, analytical gaze.

"Stand down, Bakugo," Aizawa warned, releasing the tape and letting his hair fall. "Or you're expelled right now."

Katsuki ground his teeth, stepping back, but his murderous glare remained fixed on the immovable object in front of him.

At the end of the day, Aizawa revealed the rankings. Izuku had placed fifth overall—his phenomenal scores in the grip strength and ball throw offsetting his poor speed and agility scores. Katsuki placed third. Mineta was last, but Aizawa casually revealed the expulsion threat was a logical ruse, much to the shock of everyone except Izuku and a highly intelligent girl named Yaoyorozu.

The next afternoon, the curriculum shifted from physical baselines to practical application.

"I AM HERE..." a booming voice echoed through the hallway. "...COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!"

All Might strode into the classroom, decked out in his Silver Age costume, striking a pose that sent half the class into a frenzy of fanboying. Izuku watched his mentor with a soft, respectful smile.

"Welcome to Foundational Hero Studies!" All Might announced. "Today, we're jumping straight into the deep end! BATTLE TRIALS! And to go with it... your Hero Costumes!"

The wall slid open, revealing numbered metal suitcases.

Ten minutes later, Class 1-A stepped out into the mock-city of Ground Beta. The variety of costumes was staggering, ranging from practical armor to flashy spandex.

When Izuku stepped out of the tunnel, the chatter died down once again.

Izuku’s hero costume was a study in brutalist minimalism. He didn't need kevlar, steel plates, or impact-resistant fabrics. His body provided a defense greater than any man-made material. Therefore, his costume was designed to enhance his utility and protect the environment from him.

He wore thick, charcoal-grey cargo pants made of fire-retardant material, secured by a heavy-duty tactical belt adorned with utility pouches (containing first aid supplies, capture tape, and a collapsible rebreather). His torso was entirely bare, fully exposing his pale-yellow chest scales and the massive, interlocking green osteoderms on his back and shoulders. Crisscrossing his chest was a dark-green tactical harness, fitted with emergency carabiners and a comms radio on his shoulder strap.

His most prominent features, however, were his boots and tail-guard. He wore heavy, specialized sabatons—metal and rubber boots that clamped over his feet, equipped with pneumatic shock absorbers. These allowed him to run or stomp without shattering the concrete beneath him. At the end of his tail, covering his bone club, was a thick, padded, impact-diffusing sleeve. It was essentially a massive boxing glove for his tail, ensuring that if he hit a villain, he would incapacitate them with blunt trauma rather than accidentally killing them by caving in their ribcage.

"Whoa, Midoriya," Kirishima whistled, walking up and rapping his knuckles against Izuku's chest scales. Tink, tink. "You really don't need armor, do you? You're basically a walking tank!"

"Mobility and heat dissipation are my primary concerns," Izuku explained, adjusting his tactical harness. "Wearing synthetic fabrics over my dermal plates traps body heat and restricts my palatal valve's oxygen regulation. Exposed scales are the most rational choice."

All Might cleared his throat, calling the class to attention. He explained the rules of the Battle Trial. It was a 2v2 indoor combat scenario. One team would play the Villains, guarding a nuclear weapon inside a building. The other team would play the Heroes, tasked with either capturing the Villains or securing the weapon within a fifteen-minute time limit.

All Might drew the lots from two boxes.

"Team A will be the Heroes! Izuku Midoriya and Ochako Uraraka!"

Uraraka pumped her fist, smiling up at Izuku. "We're a team, Midoriya! Let's do our best!"

"I look forward to working with you, Uraraka-san," Izuku nodded.

"And Team D will be the Villains!" All Might announced, pulling the black balls. "Katsuki Bakugo and Tenya Iida!"

Izuku's green eyes shifted across the crowd, locking onto Katsuki. The blonde boy was wearing his hero costume—a black tank top with massive, grenade-shaped gauntlets on his forearms. Katsuki was already glaring at him, a manic, bloodthirsty grin stretching across his face.

An immovable object versus an unstoppable force, Izuku thought, his heart rate remaining perfectly steady. He is going to abandon the objective to come after me.

All Might gave Team D fifteen minutes to set up inside the building. Team A waited outside, reviewing the building's floor plans on a digital tablet.

"Okay, so," Uraraka murmured, looking at the screen. "Bakugo's Quirk is explosion, and Iida is super fast. This is going to be tough. How should we approach this, Midoriya?"

"Kacchan is fiercely proud and entirely fixated on proving his superiority," Izuku stated factually, memorizing the layout in seconds. "He will not stay with Iida to guard the weapon. He will hunt me down immediately."

"Wait, he's just going to leave the bomb unguarded? But Iida is there!"

"Iida is pragmatic, but he cannot stop Kacchan from acting on his impulses," Izuku explained. He looked down at Uraraka. "When we enter the building, Kacchan will ambush us. When he does, I want you to run. Do not engage him. I will draw his absolute attention. You navigate to the top floor and secure the weapon from Iida."

"But Midoriya," Uraraka said, looking worriedly at his bare chest. "His explosions are so strong! He's going to hurt you if you fight him alone!"

Izuku reached back, his hand resting on the heavy, green scales of his shoulder. "Uraraka-san. He has been trying to hurt me for ten years. He hasn't succeeded yet."

A siren blared across Ground Beta. The trial had begun.

Izuku and Uraraka entered the building through a ground-floor window. The interior was dark, a maze of concrete pillars and narrow hallways. Every step Izuku took echoed loudly, his shock-absorbing boots mitigating the damage to the floor, but failing to muffle the sheer weight of his presence. Thud. Thud. Thud.

"I am deliberately making noise," Izuku whispered into his comms unit. "Stay behind me."

They navigated the first corner. As they approached an intersection on the second floor, Izuku's reptilian senses picked up the distinct, sharp scent of burnt sugar and sulfur.

"Stop," Izuku commanded, holding out a massive arm to halt Uraraka.

From the shadows of the cross-hallway, Katsuki launched himself forward, propelled by a violent blast from his palms. He tore through the air, screaming, his right hand aimed directly at Izuku's face.

"DIE, DEKU!"

Izuku didn't flinch. He didn't try to dodge. He simply stepped forward, placing his massive frame entirely between Katsuki and Uraraka, crossing his arms in front of his face.

BOOM!

The explosion engulfed the hallway in a blinding flash of fire and smoke. The shockwave rattled the windows and shattered the overhead lights. Uraraka was blown backward, skidding on her boots.

In the monitor room, the class gasped.

"A surprise attack from the start?!" Kirishima yelled. "That's so unmanly! Is Midoriya okay?!"

Inside the hallway, the smoke began to clear.

Katsuki landed lightly on his feet, grinning savagely. But his grin faltered as the ash settled.

Izuku stood exactly where he had been before the blast. His forearms were slightly blackened with soot, but the green osteoderms beneath were completely unblemished. He slowly lowered his arms, his pale-yellow chest scales gleaming in the dim emergency lighting. He looked entirely bored.

"Go, Uraraka," Izuku ordered, his deep voice cutting through the ringing silence.

Uraraka, realizing the gravity of the plan, scrambled to her feet and darted down a side hallway, making a beeline for the stairs.

Katsuki growled, raising a hand to blast her in the back. "Where do you think you're going—!"

THWACK!

Before Katsuki could ignite his sweat, a massive green blur slammed into the concrete wall mere inches from his head. Katsuki froze. Izuku's tail, sheathed in its padded protector, was embedded slightly into the plaster of the wall, acting as a physical barricade blocking Katsuki's path.

"Your opponent is me, Kacchan," Izuku said, retracting his tail and adopting a wide, anchored stance. He let his arms hang loose by his sides. "I'm right here."

The sheer disrespect of the stance—the utter lack of a guard—snapped Katsuki's remaining restraint.

"You think you can look down on me?!" Katsuki screamed, launching himself forward in a flurry of explosive maneuvers. He used small blasts to zig-zag off the walls, making his movements impossible to track for a normal human.

But Izuku didn't need to track him. He just needed to occupy the space.

Katsuki closed the distance, unleashing a brutal right hook backed by a point-blank explosion directly into Izuku's stomach. BANG!

The kinetic force of the blast washed over Izuku. His pale-yellow scales absorbed the shock, his internal skeletal structure channeling the energy down his legs and into the floor. The concrete beneath Izuku's boots cracked, but his body didn't move.

Katsuki’s eyes widened in horror. He didn't even budge!

Before Katsuki could pull his hand back, Izuku leaned forward. He didn't throw a punch. He simply stepped into Katsuki's personal space and forcefully shoved him backward with his broad chest. The sheer mass of the push sent Katsuki tumbling backward, skidding across the floor.

"Is that it?" Izuku asked, his voice calm, analytical. "Your right hook is highly telegraphed. You always lead with a wide swing to maximize the oxygen intake for your ignition."

"SHUT UP!" Katsuki roared, scrambling to his feet. He lunged again.

What followed was a brutal, one-sided display of attrition. Katsuki unleashed everything he had. He hit Izuku with rapid-fire bursts, spinning kicks enhanced by blasts, and double-palm detonations. The hallway became an inferno of flashing light, roaring sound, and choking smoke.

Through it all, Izuku walked forward.

He didn't attack. He just advanced, one heavy, inevitable step at a time. When Katsuki blasted his face, Izuku merely closed his eyes and tucked his chin, letting the explosions wash over his dense skull-plates. When Katsuki blasted his legs, the thick, scaly hide absorbed the heat effortlessly.

In the monitor room, Class 1-A watched in terrifying awe.

"This isn't a fight," Todoroki Shoto, a boy with half-white, half-red hair, observed quietly. "This is a siege. Bakugo is expending all his energy, and Midoriya is just letting him burn himself out. He's breaking him psychologically."

"Midoriya isn't even raising his hands," Momo Yaoyorozu noted, her hand covering her mouth. "His Quirk... the defensive capabilities are beyond belief. He's completely nullifying the shockwaves."

Back in the hallway, Katsuki's breathing grew ragged. His arms ached, the recoil of his own continuous explosions starting to take a toll on his muscles. He backed away, his chest heaving, sweat pouring down his face.

He looked at Izuku. The armored giant emerged from the smoke, entirely unfazed. The only sign of damage was that the outermost layer of Izuku's green scales was glowing a dull, cherry-red from the accumulated thermal energy, radiating heat into the hallway.

"You're overheating yourself, Kacchan," Izuku observed, stopping a few feet away. "Your nitroglycerin sweat is potent, but human stamina has a limit. Absolute defense is an offense of its own. By attacking me, you are only destroying yourself."

"I am... I am the best!" Katsuki panted, his vision tunneling in on the immovable object standing before him. The boy who was supposed to be a pebble in his path. The boy who refused to break.

Katsuki raised his right arm, gripping the pin on his massive, grenade-shaped gauntlet.

"If I can't break you with a normal blast... I'll just have to level the whole damn building!" Katsuki screamed, his voice cracking with desperation.

In the monitor room, All Might grabbed the microphone. "Young Bakugo! Stop! Are you trying to kill him?! If you use that, the trial is over!"

Katsuki didn't listen. His finger hooked into the metal pin. "If he's a tank... he'll survive it!"

PULL.

The pin slipped out. The gauntlet, which had been storing Katsuki's nitroglycerin sweat for the past ten minutes, ignited the entire payload at once.

A localized sun erupted in the hallway.

The blast was catastrophic. A raging torrent of compressed, hyper-accelerated fire and concussive force tore through the corridor. The walls disintegrated. The floor buckled. The sheer volume of the explosion consumed the entire space, turning everything into blinding white light and deafening sound.

"MIDORIYA!" Uraraka screamed through the comms, feeling the entire building shudder beneath her feet on the fifth floor.

In the monitor room, the screens whited out entirely. All Might gripped the console, his heart leaping into his throat. Did he dodge? He's too slow! He took it head-on!

The roar of the explosion faded, replaced by the sound of crumbling concrete and falling debris.

The cameras slowly adjusted, peering through the thick, acrid smoke that filled the obliterated hallway. One side of the building had been blown wide open, revealing the afternoon sky. Katsuki stood at the end of the corridor, his arm smoking, panting heavily, a manic smile returning to his face.

I did it. I finally broke him.

Then, from the center of the smoke, a heavy, rhythmic sound echoed.

Clack. Clack. Clack.

The sound of thick, heavy scales popping off and hitting the floor.

The smoke swirled and parted.

Izuku Midoriya stood in the exact center of the blast radius. He had entered Fortress Mode. He was buried up to his ankles in the shattered floor, his legs spread wide, his arms crossed tightly over his face in an X-guard.

His outer layer of armor was completely charred black, practically melted from the intense heat of the gauntlet blast. But as Katsuki watched in paralyzing horror, Izuku uncrossed his arms.

He flexed his chest and back muscles.

POP!

Utilizing his Ablative Shedding, the entire outer layer of charred, blackened scales instantaneously ejected from his body, crumbling into dust as they hit the floor. Beneath the ruined layer, a fresh, perfectly pristine layer of gleaming emerald osteoderms and pale-yellow chest scales caught the sunlight streaming in through the broken wall.

He hadn't suffered a single burn. He hadn't taken a single step backward.

Izuku unlocked his stance, pulling his boots out of the craters he had carved into the floor. He exhaled a long, steady breath, looking at Katsuki with eyes devoid of anger, full of only cold, inevitable finality.

Katsuki’s arms dropped to his sides. His mind went entirely blank. The unstoppable force had met the immovable object, and the unstoppable force had shattered.

"My turn," Izuku rumbled.

He didn't run. He just walked forward. Katsuki couldn't move; his muscles were locked in sheer, unadulterated shock.

Izuku stopped two feet away from the blonde. He turned his hips, dropping his center of gravity. His thick, padded tail swept forward in a tight, controlled arc.

THWUD.

It wasn't a lethal blow. It was precisely calibrated. The heavily padded bone-club struck Katsuki squarely in the ribcage, dispersing the kinetic energy across his torso like a massive, blunt battering ram.

The air was instantly forced from Katsuki's lungs. He was lifted off his feet, flying backward through the air, and slammed into the far wall. He slid down the plaster, his eyes rolling back in his head, entirely unconscious before he even hit the floor.

Izuku let out a slow breath, raising a hand to his comms earpiece.

"Uraraka. Kacchan is incapacitated. Proceed to capture the objective."

On the fifth floor, Uraraka had been locked in a tense standoff with Iida, who was monologuing entirely too much about being an evil villain. Taking advantage of Iida's distraction from the massive explosion below, Uraraka used a piece of debris to float herself over Iida's head, slapping her hands onto the paper-mache nuclear weapon.

"Recovered!" she yelled triumphantly.

In the monitor room, the buzzer sounded.

"HERO... HERO TEAM WINS!" All Might announced, his voice trembling slightly with awe.

The class remained dead silent. They looked at the screen, watching the gargantuan, scaly teenager casually lift the unconscious Bakugo onto his broad shoulder like a sack of flour, his armor gleaming in the light of the destroyed building.

"He tanked it," Kirishima whispered, breaking the silence. "He took a blast that blew away half the building... and he just shed it off."

"He didn't throw a single punch," Todoroki noted, his mismatched eyes wide with realization. "He defeated the strongest offensive applicant in our class using only a single tail swipe and pure intimidation."

"He's a monster," Mineta squeaked, hiding behind Shoji.

"No," Yaoyorozu corrected softly, her eyes fixed on the screen as Izuku gently adjusted Bakugo to ensure the blonde's airway was clear while carrying him. "He's a shield. An absolute, unbreakable shield."

The Battle Trials concluded an hour later. Izuku had carried Katsuki to Recovery Girl’s office, where the youthful heroine scolded them both—mostly Katsuki, once he woke up—for the reckless use of the gauntlets. Izuku received a clean bill of health, though Recovery Girl noted he needed to consume at least two thousand calories immediately to replace the energy used to regenerate his shed armor plating.

When Izuku returned to the classroom at the end of the day, the atmosphere had palpably shifted.

As he walked through the door, he wasn't met with stares of apprehension. He was met with awe. Kirishima and Kaminari practically tackled him—though they bounced off his armored waist harmlessly.

"Midoriya, you are so incredibly manly!" Kirishima beamed. "That was the most hardcore thing I've ever seen!"

"You're like a living fortress, ribbit," Tsuyu Asui, a girl with frog-like features, added from her desk.

Izuku offered a small, polite smile, navigating his massive frame through the aisles and carefully sitting at his desk. "Thank you. Though I must admit, Kacchan's blast was quite warm. My thermal insulation was nearly pushed to its threshold."

In the back of the room, Katsuki sat in silence. He didn't yell. He didn't put his feet on the desk. He just stared out the window, his mind completely broken down and attempting to reassemble itself. He had hit Deku with everything he had. The result was indisputable. He wasn't the strongest.

Izuku pulled his Hero Analysis notebook from his bag, flipping to a fresh page. He began to meticulously write down notes on the Quirks of his classmates, observing their performances in the trials.

He paused, looking down at his thick, green-scaled hand. He clenched it into a fist, listening to the satisfying slide of his osteoderms locking into place.

I proved it, Izuku thought, a quiet sense of pride warming his chest. A shield can stand on the same stage as the swords.

But as the sun set over UA High School, casting long shadows across the classroom, Izuku knew the real tests were yet to come. The mock battles were one thing, but the world outside was full of villains who didn't play by the rules. If he truly wanted to be the Vanguard of Society, he would have to prove that his unyielding ground could hold against true malice.

He closed his notebook, the sound loud in the quiet room. He was ready. Let them come.

The hum of the UA bus tires vibrating against the asphalt was a soothing, rhythmic sound. Inside, the atmosphere among Class 1-A was a mixture of relaxed banter and mounting anticipation. They were on their way to the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, widely known as the USJ, for their first major rescue training exercise.

Sitting in the back row, Izuku Midoriya took up two full seats. He was entirely still, his massive, heavily armored arms resting on his knees, his prehensile tail coiled neatly beneath him to avoid tripping anyone in the aisle. He stared out the window, watching the blur of the city, listening to the chatter of his classmates.

Since the Battle Trials, the dynamic in the classroom had fundamentally shifted. Katsuki Bakugo had retreated into a brooding, volatile silence, glaring at the floor and refusing to engage. The rest of the class, however, had gravitated toward Izuku with a mixture of profound awe and comfortable respect. It was hard not to feel safe when sitting near a teenager who looked like a mythological titan and acted with the gentle courtesy of a seasoned butler.

"Hey, Midoriya," spoke up Tsuyu Asui, leaning over her seat to look at the armored giant. "I say whatever comes to mind, so I'm just going to ask. Your Quirk is obviously a mutant type, but it’s incredibly versatile. You've got the strength of an enhancer, the durability of a tank, and you can shed your armor. What exactly did you register it as?"

Izuku turned his head slowly, his reptilian eyes blinking once. "I registered it as Dreadnought, Asui-san."

"Call me Tsuyu, ribbit."

"Tsuyu," Izuku corrected politely. "But technically, Dr. Tsubasa classified it as a localized prehistoric mutation. I possess the osteoderms and bone density of an Ankylosaurus, paired with the respiratory and aquatic adaptations of a crocodilian. It is purely physical."

Eijiro Kirishima leaned over the aisle, his eyes practically sparkling with admiration. "Man, that is so cool. I mean, my Quirk is Hardening. It's great for brawling, but it's not exactly flashy. I can take a hit, but looking at you... I feel like a pebble next to a mountain. You’re definitely Pro material, Midoriya. You could probably take down any villain just by walking into them."

Izuku shook his head slightly, the heavy green spikes on his spine shifting with a soft, leathery creak. "You underestimate your own utility, Kirishima-san. Your Hardening covers your entire body seamlessly, allowing for high-speed, agile brawling. I am burdened by three hundred and fifty pounds of dense mass. If I miscalculate a step, I shatter the concrete. If I swing my tail without restraint in a civilian area, the concussive force could kill someone through sheer air pressure."

The bus went quiet for a moment, absorbing the gravity of his words.

"My Quirk is inherently lethal," Izuku continued softly, his gaze returning to the window. "That is why I do not fight like a sword. I fight like a shield. A sword can accidentally cut the innocent. A shield only exists to protect them."

Denki Kaminari shivered playfully. "Dude, you're so deep it’s scary. But hey, it's a good thing we're doing Rescue Training today! You get to show off that shield!"

At the front of the bus, Shota Aizawa's tired voice cut through the chatter. "We're here. Quiet down and file out."

The USJ was a breathtaking marvel of modern engineering. An absolutely gargantuan dome, larger than a professional sports stadium, housed multiple environmental catastrophe zones—a ruined city, a rocky landslide area, a blazing inferno, and a massive artificial lake boasting a shipwreck.

Standing before the class was the Space Hero, Thirteen, looking entirely unassuming in their puffy white astronaut suit.

"Welcome, students!" Thirteen greeted warmly. "Before we begin, I have one, or two... or maybe three points to make." Thirteen held up three fingers, then four, then five.

"As you know, my Quirk is Black Hole. It can suck up and tear apart anything. However, it is a power that can easily be used to kill." Thirteen's voice lost its cheerful lilt, growing dead serious. "Some of you have Quirks like that. Quirks that, if pushed a fraction of an inch too far, will destroy a human body. In superhuman society, Quirks are heavily restricted and monitored to prevent this. But do not forget that you possess deadly weapons."

Izuku nodded slowly, deeply resonating with the hero's words. It was the exact philosophy he had lived by since he was four years old.

"Today," Thirteen continued, "you will learn how to use your Quirks to save lives. You will learn that your powers are not meant to inflict harm, but to help others. That is all! Thank you for listening!"

The class erupted into polite applause. Aizawa stepped forward, his capture scarf shifting slightly around his neck. "Right. First, we'll start with the—"

Aizawa stopped.

The massive, stadium-sized lights lining the dome flickered violently. A low, ominous hum vibrated through the steel grating of the entrance plaza. Down in the central plaza, the water of the artificial fountain sputtered, gurgled, and then died completely.

In the center of the dry fountain, the air began to warp.

It didn't tear; it expanded. A pinprick of deep, void-like purple and black mist swirled into existence, rapidly stretching upward and outward until it formed a massive, shadowy gate.

Izuku’s reptilian senses flared. His pupils contracted into thin slits. The scent of ozone, stagnant blood, and profound malice drifted up to the entrance plaza.

From the swirling purple mist, a hand emerged. It was pale, sickly, and covered in a disembodied, grayish hand that gripped the face of the man it belonged to. Tomura Shigaraki stepped out of the portal, his red eyes peering through the fingers of his mask, burning with manic hatred.

Following him, a veritable sea of villains poured out of the warp gate. Dozens, then hundreds, of criminals armed with jagged weapons, mutated limbs, and lethal Quirks spilled into the plaza.

"Gather together and don't move!" Aizawa barked, his voice cracking like a whip. He slapped his yellow goggles over his eyes. "Thirteen, protect the students!"

"What is that?" Kirishima asked, taking a step forward. "Is this like the entrance exam? Has the training started already?"

"Don't move!" Aizawa yelled again, his tone carrying a genuine, chilling edge of panic that froze the teenagers in their tracks. "Those are real villains."

The temperature in the dome seemed to plummet. Fear, primal and suffocating, gripped the class.

Down in the plaza, Shigaraki scratched his neck furiously, his raspy voice echoing faintly up to them. "Eraserhead and Thirteen... The schedule we retrieved from UA said All Might would be here. Where is he? I went through all this trouble, brought all these friends... just to kill the Symbol of Peace. Is he in the back? Maybe if I kill some of these kids, he'll come out to play."

Next to Shigaraki stood a nightmare given form. It was a hulking, muscular monstrosity with pitch-black skin, a beak-like maw lined with razor-sharp teeth, and an exposed brain pulsating atop its head. The Nomu stood perfectly still, exuding an aura of mindless, catastrophic violence.

"Villains?! No way!" Kaminari panicked, pulling out his communication device. "I have no signal! They're jamming our comms!"

"Thirteen, begin evacuation. Try calling the school," Aizawa ordered, uncoiling his capture weapon. "These villains have something to counteract the sensors. It's a highly coordinated ambush."

"Sensei, you can't fight them all alone!" Izuku rumbled, taking a heavy step forward, his tail shifting behind him. "Your Quirk is suited for stealth and one-on-one combat, not large-scale group suppression. Let me act as your vanguard."

Aizawa looked back at the armored giant. He knew Izuku could take a hit. But Aizawa was a teacher. He would never let a fourteen-year-old child draw the first blood of a war.

"You can't be a Pro with only one trick, Midoriya. Stay with Thirteen. Shield the class," Aizawa commanded. With a fierce leap, the underground hero threw himself off the stairs, plunging directly into the sea of villains below.

Thirteen ushered the class toward the heavy blast doors, but before they could take ten steps, the purple mist materialized directly in front of them, blocking their path. The mist expanded, forming a towering figure with glowing yellow eyes.

"I am afraid I cannot allow that," Kurogiri intoned politely. "We are the League of Villains. We have come to UA to ensure that All Might draws his last breath. Since he is absent, we must improvise."

Bakugo and Kirishima didn't wait. With simultaneous roars, the two teenagers lunged forward, launching an explosive haymaker and a hardened punch directly into the misty center of the villain.

A massive explosion rocked the entrance.

"Did we get him?!" Kirishima yelled through the smoke.

"Foolish," Kurogiri's voice echoed from everywhere at once. The mist surged forward like a tidal wave. "Your roles are to be scattered, tortured, and slain!"

The black mist enveloped the class. Izuku felt a strange, weightless sensation grab hold of him. Kurogiri's warp gates manipulated spatial coordinates, but Izuku’s sheer, three-hundred-and-fifty-pound mass created a brief, microscopic drag on the warp's mechanics. It wasn't enough to stop the teleportation, but it caused the portal to stutter.

The world went pitch black, and then, Izuku was falling.

He didn't hit concrete. He hit water.

SPLASH.

The transition was violent. Izuku plunged into the depths of the Shipwreck Zone's massive artificial lake. Due to his hyper-dense skeletal structure and heavy osteoderms, Izuku had the buoyancy of a solid lead block. He sank immediately, the blue water rushing past his face as he plummeted toward the bottom.

Most people would panic. Izuku merely closed his mouth.

Click.

His palatal valve engaged. His airways sealed flawlessly. The cold water washed over his scales, but his thermal insulation rendered the temperature change moot. He opened his reptilian eyes, his vision quickly adjusting to the aquatic environment.

Above him, he saw two figures flailing in the water. Mineta and Tsuyu.

And closing in on them from the shadows of the artificial reef were half a dozen villains equipped with aquatic Quirks—webbed hands, shark-like fins, and gills. They carried rusted harpoons and serrated dive knives, darting through the water with terrifying speed.

Threat assessment: Immediate aquatic ambush, Izuku thought.

He couldn't swim like a human. Human swimming relied on buoyancy and arm strokes. Izuku swam like a prehistoric apex predator.

He anchored his heavy legs, tucking his arms close to his chest. He engaged the massive, corded muscles in his back and hips, undulating his prehensile tail in a rapid, side-to-side sweeping motion. The sheer surface area of his tail club acted as a massive paddle.

Despite his weight, the propulsion was explosive. Izuku shot upward from the depths like a green torpedo.

One of the villains, a man with a barracuda-like jaw, lunged at Tsuyu, his knife raised to slash her leg.

Before the blade could connect, Izuku erupted from the water beneath them. He didn't attack the villain; he simply placed his broad, heavily armored back between the knife and his classmate.

CLANG!

The underwater impact sent a shockwave through the lake. The villain's dive knife struck Izuku's emerald osteoderms and shattered instantly, the metal blade shearing off and sinking to the bottom.

The villain's eyes widened in disbelief.

Izuku didn't give him time to recover. Reaching out with a thick, scaly hand, Izuku grabbed the villain by the collar of his shirt and casually tossed him upward, launching the man out of the water and onto the deck of the sinking ship in the center of the zone.

Izuku broke the surface, the water shedding off his scales. He spotted the sinking ship.

"Tsuyu! Mineta! Grab onto my dorsal spikes!" Izuku rumbled, his voice echoing over the water.

Tsuyu, adapting instantly to the situation, grabbed Mineta with her long tongue and swam over, latching onto the thick ridges of bone protruding from Izuku's back.

With powerful, rhythmic sweeps of his tail, Izuku propelled them to the rusted ladder of the shipwreck, allowing the two smaller students to scramble up to the deck before he hauled his massive frame out of the water. His boots hit the metal deck with a heavy thud, denting the rusted steel.

Mineta collapsed onto the deck, sobbing hysterically. "We're going to die! Those are real villains! They have knives! I didn't sign up to be fish food!"

"Calm down, Mineta," Tsuyu said, though her voice shook slightly. "Midoriya, what's the situation?"

Izuku walked to the edge of the railing, peering down into the water. Below the surface, shadows darted back and forth. The aquatic villains had surrounded the ship. There were easily twenty of them down there.

"They are waiting us out," Izuku analyzed. "They hold the tactical advantage in the water. They likely assume we will be forced into their domain once this ship finishes sinking. Furthermore, they do not know what our Quirks are. If they knew yours was aquatic, Tsuyu, they wouldn't have ambushed us here. They merely warped us blindly."

"So what do we do?!" Mineta shrieked, pulling a purple ball from his head. "I can throw these, but they'll just dodge them in the water!"

"We need a localized disruption," Izuku stated, crossing his heavy arms. "Tsuyu, how far can you jump while carrying Mineta?"

"From this height? Probably about thirty meters," she ribbited. "Enough to reach the shore. But the moment we jump, they'll launch themselves out of the water and intercept us mid-air. We're sitting ducks."

"They will not intercept you," Izuku said, his voice dropping into a tone of absolute certainty. "Because I am going to draw all of their aggression."

Before either of them could stop him, Izuku placed his hands on the railing and vaulted his massive frame over the side.

"Midoriya!" Tsuyu gasped.

Izuku plummeted into the water like an anvil.

The villains, seeing the heavily armored boy re-enter their domain, swarmed him immediately. They thought he was foolish. They thought he was sacrificing himself.

"Get him!" a villain with crab-like claws yelled. "Tear his armor off!"

Izuku sank to a depth of about fifteen feet, hovering in the middle of the water column through precise tail movements. He locked his palatal valve and closed his eyes.

The first villain lunged, driving a rusted spear directly at Izuku's pale-yellow chest scales. The spear tip hit, bent at a ninety-degree angle, and snapped. Izuku didn't flinch.

The crab-villain clamped his massive pincers around Izuku's arm, attempting to crush the bone. The pincers ground against the hyper-dense osteoderms, sparking underwater, before the villain's own joints popped out of their sockets from the sheer inability to compress Izuku's arm.

"He's too tough!" another villain gurgled. "Aim for the eyes! The joints!"

They swarmed him, a tempest of blades, claws, and teeth. Izuku let them. He became the ultimate focal point of their rage and frustration. Every strike was absorbed. Every blade was shattered. The kinetic dispersion of his armor nullified their blunt attacks, and the sheer density of his scales mocked their piercing weapons.

He didn't fight back. He just gathered them all tightly around his mass.

Once every single villain was within a ten-foot radius, trying desperately to find a weak point, Izuku opened his reptilian eyes.

Now.

Izuku curled his body slightly, bringing his heavy tail close to his chest. Then, drawing upon the immense torque in his hips, he threw his arms out and initiated a violent, full-body horizontal spin.

Underwater, the laws of physics heavily penalized drag. Izuku's heavy, spiked armor and massive tail club acted like the blades of a colossal industrial turbine.

He spun faster, and faster, and faster.

The sheer kinetic force of his rotation grabbed the surrounding water and dragged it with him. Within seconds, a massive, localized whirlpool erupted beneath the surface of the lake.

The villains, entirely caught off guard, were swept into the vortex. They screamed, losing all buoyancy and control, spun around in the crushing, dizzying current Izuku was generating. The whirlpool grew so violent that it breached the surface, creating a massive funnel next to the sinking ship.

"Mineta! Throw them!" Tsuyu yelled, realizing Izuku's plan.

Mineta, crying but motivated by pure survival instinct, began rapidly plucking the sticky purple spheres from his head and hurling them directly into the swirling vortex of water.

The spheres hit the spinning villains. Because they were all trapped in the same centripetal motion, the villains violently collided with one another, the sticky balls instantly fusing their limbs, torsos, and heads together in a tangled, inescapable mass.

"Jump!" Izuku's voice roared, muffled slightly by the water as he slowed his spin.

Tsuyu grabbed Mineta, crouched on the railing, and launched herself with all her leg strength. She sailed through the air, perfectly clearing the water and landing safely on the concrete shore of the central plaza.

Izuku let the whirlpool die down. The villains, now a single, floating clump of groaning, sticky bodies, bobbed harmlessly to the surface.

Izuku swam to the edge, his heavy hands gripping the concrete, and hauled himself out of the water. He didn't pant. He didn't gasp for air. He merely unlocked his throat, the water shedding off his immaculate green armor, and walked over to his classmates.

"Are you both unharmed?" he asked politely.

"You're terrifying, Midoriya," Mineta sobbed, clinging to Tsuyu's leg. "I love you, but you're terrifying."

"We need to assess the situation," Tsuyu said, pointing toward the center of the plaza.

Izuku turned his gaze. His heart, usually so steady, skipped a painful beat.

The battle in the central plaza was a massacre. Aizawa was surrounded by dozens of unconscious villains, a testament to his incredible skill, but the sheer numbers had taken their toll. The underground hero was bleeding, his breathing ragged, his movements sluggish.

And standing directly in front of him was Tomura Shigaraki.

"You're cool, Eraserhead," Shigaraki rasped, dodging a sluggish strike from Aizawa's capture tape. "But you're just a man. Your Quirk is great for a quick ambush, but against a protracted assault... your eyes dry out. Your blinks are getting longer."

Aizawa lunged, his elbow striking Shigaraki in the stomach. But as he did, his hair dropped. He blinked.

In that fraction of a second, Shigaraki's hand shot out. Four fingers touched Aizawa's elbow.

"I win," Shigaraki whispered, dropping his pinky finger onto the fabric.

The effect was instantaneous and horrific. Aizawa's sleeve crumbled into gray dust, followed immediately by the flesh, muscle, and bone of his elbow. The skin cracked, flaking away like dry earth, exposing raw, bleeding tissue beneath as the limb literally began to disintegrate.

Aizawa screamed, leaping backward, his eyes glowing furiously red to erase the Quirk before the decay could spread to his shoulder. He collapsed to one knee, clutching his ruined arm.

"Sensei!" Tsuyu gasped in horror.

"Nomu," Shigaraki commanded casually.

The hulking, bird-like monstrosity moved with a speed that defied logic. One moment it was standing by the fountain; the next, it was looming over Aizawa. The Nomu grabbed Aizawa by the head, lifting him off the ground, and slammed his face directly into the concrete floor.

The sound of shattering bone echoed across the plaza. The crater spider-webbed out for ten feet. Aizawa lay broken, blood pooling beneath him.

Izuku's hands clenched into tight fists. He's dying. I have to intervene.

"Midoriya, we can't go down there," Mineta whimpered, reading Izuku's body language. "That monster... it just crushed Mr. Aizawa like a bug! We have to run to the exit!"

Shigaraki, standing over Aizawa's broken body, slowly turned his head. The disembodied hand covering his face twitched. Through the gaps in the fingers, one crazed, bloodshot eye locked onto the three students standing by the edge of the water.

"Ah," Shigaraki smiled beneath the hand. "More kids. If I kill them... All Might will really be crushed."

Shigaraki crouched, and in a burst of speed that proved he was physically enhanced even without his Quirk, he dashed across the plaza. He crossed the fifty yards in less than three seconds.

He materialized directly in front of Tsuyu.

Tsuyu's eyes widened in sheer terror. She tried to jump back, but she wasn't fast enough. Shigaraki reached his hand out, his five fingers splayed, aiming directly for her face.

If all five fingers touch her, Izuku's mind calculated with horrifying clarity, she will turn to dust in less than a second.

Izuku moved.

He didn't run. He didn't swing his tail. He executed a perfect, explosive lateral step, shoving Tsuyu backward with his hip.

He threw himself entirely into the path of Shigaraki's hand.

Shigaraki's eyes widened slightly in surprise as the massive, armored boy replaced the frog-girl. But the villain's grin only widened.

"A meat shield?" Shigaraki rasped, his hand crashing flat against the pale-yellow scales of Izuku's chest. "Too bad my Quirk doesn't care how tough you are. Decay."

All five of Shigaraki's fingers made contact with Izuku's chest plate.

The activation of Decay was not an impact; it was a fundamental unmaking of matter. Izuku felt a strange, cold vibration radiate from Shigaraki's palm. The pale-yellow scales, harder than reinforced steel, instantly turned gray. The color drained from the center of his chest, spreading outward in a rapid, spider-webbing pattern of necrosis.

The dense keratin and bone began to crack, turning dry and brittle. Flakes of gray dust drifted into the air.

Pain, Izuku realized. It was the first time in ten years he had felt genuine, agonizing pain on the surface of his skin. The decay was eating through the outer layer of his armor, rushing toward the nerve endings and the soft, vulnerable organs beneath his ribcage.

"You're durable, I'll give you that," Shigaraki chuckled, watching the gray cracks spread across Izuku's massive chest. "Anyone else would be dust already. But it doesn't matter. In ten seconds, this rot will reach your heart, and you'll crumble away just like everything else. Goodbye, hero."

Mineta screamed. Tsuyu reached out, "Midoriya!"

Izuku looked down at Shigaraki's hand, still pressed against his chest. He watched the gray rot spreading. He calculated the speed of the disintegration. He calculated the thickness of his chest plate.

The decay is a biological virus-like effect transmitted through touch, Izuku deduced rapidly. It requires an unbroken chain of matter to spread. If the chain is broken, the decay stops.

Izuku locked eyes with Shigaraki. His green reptilian irises were entirely devoid of fear. There was only calm, unshakable resolve.

"Your Quirk is highly lethal," Izuku rumbled, his deep voice startling Shigaraki. "But it is surface-dependent."

Izuku took a deep, sudden breath. He anchored his feet and crossed his heavy, green-scaled arms over his stomach.

"What are you—" Shigaraki started.

Fortress Mode: Ablative Shedding.

Izuku forcibly contracted the incredibly dense muscle fibers beneath his chest plate. He isolated the exact layer of pale-yellow dermal scales that were currently crumbling to dust. With a violent, explosive flex, he severed the biological anchor points connecting the decaying outer layer to his inner hide.

CRACK-POP!

It sounded like a gunshot.

The entire front plate of Izuku's chest armor—a piece of dense, pale-yellow bone nearly three inches thick and currently rotting to gray dust—violently ejected itself from his body.

The force of the shedding plate violently shoved Shigaraki's hand away, breaking the physical contact.

The massive chunk of decaying armor fell between them, crumbling into a pile of harmless gray ash before it even hit the floor.

Shigaraki stumbled back, his eyes widening in absolute horror.

The dust cleared.

Izuku stood tall, lowering his arms. Where Shigaraki had touched him, there was no bleeding wound. There were no exposed organs. There was only a fresh, pristine, slightly darker yellow layer of newly exposed scales, glistening with a faint sheen of biological fluid.

He had literally molted the decaying matter off his body.

"You..." Shigaraki stammered, stepping back, looking at his hands, then back at Izuku. His mind struggled to process what had just happened. His Quirk was absolute. It destroyed everything. It didn't just bounce off. "You cheated. You just... threw away the part I touched!"

"A shield must be willing to chip in order to protect what is behind it," Izuku stated calmly, taking a slow, heavy step forward. Thud.

Shigaraki's breathing hitched. He began scratching his neck violently, tearing at his own skin in frustration. "No, no, no! This is wrong! You're a cheat! You're a bug in the game! You shouldn't be able to survive that!"

Shigaraki lunged again, abandoning all tactical sense, aiming both hands wildly at Izuku's face.

Izuku didn't let him connect a second time. Before Shigaraki could close the distance, Izuku pivoted, dropping his center of gravity. His massive tail whipped out in a tight, blindingly fast arc.

The heavy, padded bone-club struck Shigaraki directly in the side of his ribcage.

The concussive force was immense. Shigaraki gagged, the air driven from his lungs, and he was launched sideways like a ragdoll. He skipped across the concrete plaza, tumbling violently before skidding to a halt near the dry fountain.

"Shigaraki Tomura!" Kurogiri's mist warped beside the fallen villain, assessing the damage.

Shigaraki slowly pushed himself up, coughing up a spatter of blood. He glared at Izuku with a hatred so profound it seemed to darken the air. "Nomu... Nomu! Kill him! Tear that walking tank apart!"

The Nomu, which had been standing over Aizawa's unconscious body, slowly turned its exposed brain toward Izuku. It dropped the teacher and let out a guttural, ear-piercing screech.

The concrete exploded beneath the Nomu's feet. It moved faster than the eye could track, crossing the plaza in a singular, terrifying bound, aiming a massive, black-muscled fist directly at Izuku's head.

"Midoriya, run!" Tsuyu screamed.

Izuku didn't run. He couldn't outrun the monster, and if he dodged, it would hit Tsuyu and Mineta behind him.

He had to hold the line.

Izuku dropped into Fortress Mode. He buried his boots into the concrete, locking his knees, his hips, and his spine. His green osteoderms snapped together in a flawless, interlocking dome of absolute defense. He crossed his thick arms over his face, tucking his chin behind his forearms.

The Nomu's fist, carrying the force of a high-speed freight train, collided with Izuku's crossed arms.

BOOM!

The impact was apocalyptic. A massive shockwave of displaced air and kinetic energy erupted from the point of contact, tearing the concrete plaza apart and blowing Tsuyu and Mineta off their feet. The wind howled, kicking up a massive cloud of dust that engulfed the two titans.

Shigaraki laughed, a raspy, painful sound. "The Nomu has Shock Absorption and Super Regeneration! It was built to rival All Might at 100%! Your little armor is going to be pulverized into powder!"

The dust slowly began to thin.

The Nomu was standing there, its fist still pressed against Izuku's forearms.

And Izuku... had been pushed back.

For the first time in his entire life, the immovable object had been moved. Two deep, jagged trenches were carved into the concrete floor where Izuku's boots had been forcibly dragged backward by three feet.

But Izuku's arms were not broken. His armor had not shattered.

He slowly lowered his forearms, revealing his reptilian eyes burning with a fierce, terrifying intensity. The kinetic dispersion of his osteoderms had swallowed the blunt force trauma, channeling the monstrous energy of the Nomu down into the earth, tearing the plaza apart instead of his bones.

"Shock Absorption..." Izuku rumbled, his deep voice carrying over the ringing silence of the plaza. "An interesting Quirk. But absorption implies a limit to capacity."

Izuku slowly uncrossed his arms, dropping them to his sides. He widened his stance, his heavy tail swaying behind him, carving a shallow groove into the shattered floor.

"I do not absorb kinetic energy. I disperse it." Izuku stared down the bio-engineered nightmare. "You will break before I do."

The Nomu screeched again, pulling back both fists for a brutal, rapid-fire barrage.

Izuku didn't flinch. He planted his feet deeper into the rubble.

The ultimate, unstoppable force of the League of Villains was about to collide with the absolute, unbreakable shield of Class 1-A, and only one of them was walking away.

The clash between Izuku Midoriya and the Nomu was not a battle of martial arts or tactical finesse. It was a terrifying, elemental collision of physics.

The Nomu moved with blinding, catastrophic speed, a blur of pitch-black muscle and violent intent. It launched a rapid-fire barrage of punches, each blow carrying enough raw kinetic force to level a small building. Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound of the impacts against Izuku’s armor echoed through the USJ like rapid cannon fire.

Izuku didn't try to dodge. His body wasn't built for evasion. He remained rooted in his Fortress Mode, his heavy boots buried deep within the shattered concrete of the central plaza. He kept his thick, heavily plated arms raised in a tight guard, shielding his head and neck.

His body acted as a flawless conduit. Every time the Nomu’s fist struck his green osteoderms, the kinetic energy was instantaneously distributed across the hexagonal plates, traveling down his hyper-dense spine, through his reinforced legs, and directly into the ground beneath him.

With every punch the Nomu landed, the earth around Izuku exploded outward. The crater beneath his feet grew wider and deeper, the concrete pulverizing into fine dust, unable to withstand the redirected shockwaves.

"How is he still standing?!" Shigaraki screamed, scratching at his neck so furiously that thin lines of blood trickled down his collarbone. "Nomu is as strong as All Might! That kid should be paste by now! Tear him apart!"

The Nomu, lacking higher brain functions and operating solely on Shigaraki's command, adjusted its tactic. Realizing that striking the armored arms was yielding no results, it grabbed Izuku.

The monster’s massive, clawed hands clamped down on Izuku’s broad shoulders, its fingers digging into the gaps between the green bone-plates. With a guttural screech, the Nomu attempted to lift the three-hundred-and-fifty-pound teenager entirely off the ground to throw him.

Izuku felt the terrifying upward pull. If he lost his connection to the ground, his kinetic dispersion would fail. He would take the full brunt of the impacts internally.

I cannot be moved, Izuku thought, a primal roar vibrating in his chest.

Izuku shifted his weight forward, deliberately dropping his center of gravity even lower. As the Nomu pulled up, Izuku thrust his heavy, padded tail directly between the monster's legs, hooking it tightly behind the Nomu's left ankle.

With a sudden, violent torque of his hips, Izuku yanked his tail backward.

The maneuver swept the Nomu's leg entirely out from under it. The monster’s balance completely collapsed. As it pitched forward, Izuku used his own massive weight to drive his heavily armored shoulder directly into the Nomu's exposed chest.

CRACK.

The sound was sickening. The Nomu was launched backward, tumbling across the ruined plaza and crashing into a pile of rubble.

Izuku let out a deep, steady breath, unlocking his stance for a fraction of a second to roll his shoulders. The friction of the Nomu's relentless assault was generating immense heat across his armor. His outermost scales were glowing a faint, dull red, radiating heat into the surrounding air.

"He... he knocked it down," Mineta whispered from the edge of the plaza, his hands clutching his purple hair in sheer disbelief. "Midoriya is fighting a monster that crushed Mr. Aizawa... and he’s winning!"

"He's not winning," Tsuyu croaked, her keen eyes catching the subtle details. "Look at his arms, ribbit."

Mineta looked closer.

Along the thick, emerald plates of Izuku’s forearms, thin, hair-line fractures had begun to form. The kinetic dispersion was working, but the sheer volume and velocity of the Nomu’s strikes were slowly overwhelming the structural integrity of his osteoderms. Izuku’s armor was chipping. Blood, dark and thick, was slowly welling up from the micro-fissures in his scales.

The Nomu stood up from the rubble. The heavy dent Izuku had put in its chest popped back out with a wet, squelching sound. Super Regeneration.

"It doesn't matter how tough you are," Shigaraki rasped, pointing a pale finger at the armored boy. "My Nomu doesn't get tired. It doesn't feel pain. It will just keep hitting you until that shell of yours shatters."

Izuku wiped a small trickle of blood from his cheek where a stray piece of concrete had grazed him. He looked at his fractured arms, then at the regenerating monster.

Shigaraki is correct, Izuku analyzed coldly, devoid of panic. In a battle of sheer attrition, the entity with hyper-regeneration will outlast the entity with finite durability. My armor will eventually fail under this sustained, All Might-level assault.

He glanced over his shoulder. Tsuyu and Mineta were too close. More importantly, Aizawa was lying unconscious and bleeding out just a few yards to his left. If Izuku moved, if he tried to retreat or evade, the Nomu would bypass him and instantly slaughter them all.

I cannot win this fight, Izuku realized. But I don't have to win. I just have to hold the line.

Izuku turned his attention back to the Nomu. He raised his arms, crossing them into a tight guard once more. He dug his boots back into the rubble, sinking his weight.

"I am the vanguard," Izuku rumbled, his voice echoing with an unshakable, terrifying resolve. "I do not yield."

The Nomu screeched and charged again.

The second round was far more brutal than the first. The Nomu, perhaps recognizing Izuku’s tactic of sweeping its legs, adopted a wider, lower stance, raining down heavier, more calculated blows.

Izuku took the punishment. Every impact sent a jolt of agonizing pain through his fractured armor, but he refused to take a single step backward. He utilized his tail not as a weapon to deal damage, but as a disruptive tool. Whenever the Nomu reared back for a devastating haymaker, Izuku would whip his tail forward, striking the monster's knee or hip joint, knocking it slightly off balance and severely reducing the force of the incoming blow.

It was a masterclass in defensive combat. Izuku was managing the unmanageable, acting as a living breakwater against a tsunami of violence.

But the cracks in his armor were widening.

The Nomu landed a vicious uppercut directly under Izuku's crossed arms. The blow struck his pale-yellow chest scales—the same area he had recently molted to escape Shigaraki’s Decay. Because the new layer of scales hadn't fully hardened yet, the impact was catastrophic.

CRUNCH.

Izuku gasped, his eyes going wide as the wind was entirely driven from his lungs. Three of his ribs fractured beneath the armor. Blood sprayed from his mouth, painting the inside of his forearms red.

He was lifted slightly off his feet, his balance broken.

The Nomu raised both its massive fists above its head, preparing to bring them down in a double-hammer strike that would undoubtedly shatter Izuku’s skull and end his life.

Izuku looked up at the descending fists. He couldn't brace in time. He couldn't dodge.

I held out as long as I could, Izuku thought, his mind surprisingly peaceful.

Suddenly, the heavy blast doors at the entrance of the USJ at the top of the stairs exploded inward. The thick steel tore off its hinges, flying through the air and crashing into the ground with a deafening screech.

A massive silhouette stood in the dust of the ruined doorway.

The entire dome seemed to freeze. The air pressure shifted instantly. The oppressive aura of Shigaraki’s malice was completely snuffed out by an overwhelming, suffocating presence of absolute authority.

"I had a bad feeling, so I tore away from my chat with the principal and came here," a booming voice echoed, devoid of its usual theatrical cheer. It was dark, furious, and filled with a terrifying promise of retribution.

All Might stepped out of the dust. He wasn't smiling.

"I AM HERE!" All Might roared.

He moved so fast that the human eye couldn't track him. In less than a second, he crossed the entire length of the USJ, grabbing Aizawa’s unconscious body, scooping up Tsuyu and Mineta, and depositing them safely near the entrance plaza.

In that same fraction of a second, All Might materialized directly beside the Nomu, just as it was bringing its fists down toward Izuku.

All Might didn't use a named smash. He just threw a raw, unadulterated right hook.

The punch connected with the Nomu’s face. The shockwave blew the surrounding debris away in a perfect circle. The Nomu was sent flying backward, skidding violently across the concrete and crashing into the treeline of the landslide zone.

Izuku, his balance lost, collapsed onto one knee, gasping for air, clutching his fractured chest.

All Might turned to him, his furious expression softening instantly into one of profound, agonizing guilt. He looked at the shattered state of Izuku’s armor, the blood pooling around the boy’s heavy boots.

"Young Midoriya..." All Might whispered, his voice cracking. "You... you held them off. You protected your teacher and your classmates. I am so sorry I was late."

Izuku slowly looked up, coughing weakly, but his reptilian eyes were still sharp. "You're... on a time limit. That monster... it has Shock Absorption... and Super Regeneration. Blunt force is... ineffective."

"Do not worry about me, my boy," All Might said, standing tall, his muscles bulging as steam began to faintly radiate from his body. "Rest now. You have done more than enough."

"No!" Shigaraki shrieked from across the plaza, pulling furiously at his hair. "It's supposed to be weakened! Nomu, kill him! Kill the Symbol of Peace!"

The Nomu erupted from the treeline, screeching, completely unharmed by All Might’s punch due to its shock absorption. It charged at the Number One Hero.

All Might met the charge head-on.

The resulting clash was entirely different from Izuku’s defensive stand. This was a battle of two unstoppable forces. All Might and the Nomu traded blows at speeds that generated localized tornadoes. The air pressure alone was enough to lift the remaining students off their feet at the entrance plaza.

SMASH! SMASH! SMASH!

"It's no use!" Kurogiri observed calmly from Shigaraki's side. "The Nomu was engineered to take All Might at 100%. Every punch the hero throws is simply absorbed."

Izuku, still kneeling on the ground, watched the titanic struggle. His analytical mind, even clouded by pain, noticed the fatal flaw in All Might's approach.

All Might was an offensive brawler. He relied on dodging and overwhelming strikes. But because the Nomu matched his speed and absorbed his power, All Might was being forced into a war of attrition. The Nomu didn't tire; All Might did. Furthermore, every time All Might threw a heavy punch, it left his left side—the side with his massive, hidden, festering injury—momentarily exposed.

The Nomu realized this. It tanked a devastating Carolina Smash to the chest, deliberately ignoring the impact to drive its clawed hand directly toward All Might's weak spot.

All Might’s eyes widened. He couldn't retract his arm in time to block. If those claws hit his injury, he would be instantly eviscerated.

Before the claws could connect, a massive, dark-green shadow eclipsed All Might.

Izuku hadn't stayed down.

Ignoring the excruciating pain of his fractured ribs and shattered arm plates, Izuku had thrown his massive body into the fray. He didn't attack the Nomu. He simply stepped directly in front of All Might’s blind spot, turning his broad, heavily armored back toward the monster.

CLANG!

The Nomu’s claws raked across the thick, emerald osteoderms on Izuku’s spine. The hyper-dense bone held firm, sparking violently as the claws failed to pierce the armor. The kinetic force pushed Izuku heavily into All Might, but the hero was entirely protected.

"Young Midoriya?!" All Might gasped, shocked that the boy was still moving.

"You are the Sword, All Might," Izuku rumbled, his voice strained but utterly resolute, his heavy tail planting into the ground to anchor them both. "You must focus entirely on attacking. Do not waste energy dodging or guarding. Leave the defense... to me."

All Might stared at the broad, bloody, unbreakable back of the teenager standing between him and certain death. In that moment, All Might didn't see a student. He saw an equal. He saw a partner.

A fierce, blinding smile—a true smile—broke across All Might's face.

"Very well, Vanguard!" All Might roared. "Let us show them what happens when the Sword and the Shield unite!"

What followed was a display of combat synergy that would forever be etched into the minds of the observing students and villains alike.

All Might abandoned all pretense of defense. He unleashed a flurry of punches so fast and so powerful that the air itself began to superheat. He rained down Texas Smashes and Detroit Smashes, focusing entirely on overwhelming the Nomu's shock absorption.

Whenever the Nomu attempted to counterattack, whenever it swung a fist or a claw at All Might's exposed flanks, Izuku was there.

Izuku moved with a terrifying, rhythmic precision. He didn't need to be fast; he just needed to be in the right place at the right time. He used his heavy arms to block strikes aimed at All Might’s head. He used his thick, padded tail to parry kicks aimed at the hero’s legs. He absorbed the kinetic energy, anchoring them both, ensuring All Might’s stance was never broken.

The Nomu was trapped. It couldn't damage All Might because the Shield absorbed all its counters, and it couldn't bypass the Shield because the Sword was raining down apocalyptic pressure.

"He... he's fighting alongside All Might," Bakugo whispered from the entrance plaza, having just arrived with Kirishima and Todoroki. Bakugo stared at the massive green figure, standing back-to-back with the Number One Hero, taking hits that would obliterate any normal person.

"They're a perfect team," Todoroki noted quietly. "Midoriya is covering every single one of All Might's blind spots."

Down in the plaza, the Nomu began to falter. Its shock absorption was a Quirk, and like all Quirks, it had a limit.

"You said it has Shock Absorption, right?!" All Might roared, his fists blurring into a solid wall of pressure. "Not Nullification! That means there's a limit to what it can take! If it was built to withstand my 100%... then I just have to force it beyond that!"

All Might pulled his right arm back, the muscles swelling to an impossible size. But the Nomu, desperate and operating on primal survival instinct, reared its head back to deliver a point-blank, lethal headbutt to All Might's face before the punch could land.

Izuku saw it. He couldn't step in front of it in time.

So, Izuku used his only offensive weapon. He pivoted, dropping all three hundred and fifty pounds of his mass into a low stance, and swung his tail upward in a brutal, vertical arc.

The heavily padded bone-club struck the Nomu directly beneath its jaw.

The sheer blunt force of Izuku's tail-strike shattered the Nomu's lower mandible. The impact violently knocked the monster's head backward, entirely disrupting the headbutt and throwing the creature off balance, exposing its chest completely.

"NOW, ALL MIGHT!" Izuku roared.

All Might's eyes blazed with the light of a dying star. He stepped into the opening Izuku had created.

"PLUS... ULTRAAAAAAA!"

All Might delivered a punch of such catastrophic, unimaginable force that the shockwave tore the very roof of the USJ dome completely off its hinges. The wind pressure generated a localized hurricane, blasting the clouds away in the sky above.

The Nomu's shock absorption failed entirely. The monster was launched into the air like a rocket, tearing through the open roof of the dome, breaking the sound barrier, and disappearing into the stratosphere, leaving only a trail of displaced air in its wake.

The silence that followed was deafening.

The villains who had survived the initial skirmishes dropped their weapons in sheer, unadulterated terror. The monster designed to kill God had just been sent into orbit.

Shigaraki stood trembling, his hands grasping his own neck, tearing at the skin until blood flowed freely over his collar. "You... you cheated! The game is rigged! That Nomu was perfect! But that kid... that damned tank... he ruined it! He ruined everything!"

Shigaraki lunged forward one last time, aiming his decaying hands blindly toward All Might and Izuku.

Before he could take three steps, a sharp BANG echoed through the dome. A bullet tore through Shigaraki's hand, shattering the bones and stopping him in his tracks.

The heavy blast doors at the top of the stairs were thrown open. Dozens of Pro Heroes—Midnight, Present Mic, Snipe, Cementoss, and Principal Nezu—stood in the entrance. Iida Tenya, panting heavily, stood among them.

"I've brought everyone!" Iida yelled.

"The pros are here," Kurogiri said, his mist rapidly enveloping the screaming, bleeding Shigaraki. "It's game over, Tomura. We must retreat."

With a final, hateful glare directed entirely at the massive, green-armored boy who had thwarted his perfect plan, Shigaraki vanished into the warp gate, leaving the USJ in the hands of the heroes.

Down in the ruined plaza, the adrenaline finally faded.

All Might stood tall, striking a victorious pose for the remaining villains to see, ensuring they surrendered immediately. But hidden behind a massive cloud of dust he deliberately kicked up, All Might's massive muscular form violently deflated in a puff of steam, leaving behind his skeletal, blood-coughing true form.

Izuku didn't see the transformation. The moment the threat was gone, the sheer, agonizing toll of the battle hit him all at once.

His Fortress Mode deactivated. His dense muscles relaxed. The pain in his fractured ribs and shattered arm plates flared with blinding intensity. He had burned through an estimated ten thousand calories in less than twenty minutes to maintain his armor and regenerative shedding.

Izuku swayed on his feet, his massive tail drooping heavily to the ground.

"You did brilliantly, Young Midoriya," Toshinori whispered, stepping forward to catch the boy.

But Izuku was too heavy. He collapsed forward, his heavy, scaly body hitting the shattered concrete with a final, resonant thud. His vision went entirely black, but as he lost consciousness, he felt a profound sense of peace.

He hadn't broken. His classmates were safe. He had done his job.

Izuku woke up to the sterile, antiseptic smell of a hospital. It was a scent that instantly reminded him of Dr. Tsubasa's office from when he was four years old.

He slowly opened his eyes, blinking against the harsh fluorescent lights. He was lying in a massive, reinforced, custom-built hospital bed in the UA infirmary. His chest and arms were tightly wrapped in thick, compressive bandages. The dull, throbbing pain of fractured bone was ever-present, but manageable.

He turned his head slowly.

Sitting in a chair next to his bed, peeling an apple with meticulous care, was Recovery Girl. Standing by the window, looking out over the UA campus in his baggy suit, was Toshinori Yagi.

"Ah, the sleeping giant awakens," Recovery Girl noted, popping a slice of apple into her mouth. "You're a nightmare to treat, you know that? Your scales are so dense I couldn't even use a normal syringe to give you painkillers. Had to find a soft spot under your armpit."

"I apologize for the inconvenience, Recovery Girl," Izuku rumbled softly, his voice dry.

Toshinori turned around, a deeply relieved smile crossing his gaunt face. He walked over to the bed, pulling up a chair.

"How are you feeling, Young Midoriya?"

"Heavy," Izuku replied truthfully. "And hungry. How is Aizawa-sensei? And the rest of the class?"

"Eraserhead is in surgery, but his life is no longer in danger," Toshinori reassured him. "Thirteen is recovering well. And not a single student suffered a major injury, thanks entirely to your actions."

Toshinori leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his piercing blue eyes locking onto Izuku's reptilian ones.

"What you did down there... stepping in front of that monster to cover my blind spots. You knew your armor was failing. You knew you could have been killed. Why did you do it?"

Izuku looked down at his bandaged arms. He flexed his fingers, feeling the slow, heavy slide of his fractured osteoderms shifting beneath the gauze.

"Because you are the Symbol of Peace," Izuku answered simply. "Society needs you to smash the villains. They need to see you standing tall, victorious, and uninjured. If you fall, society falls into chaos."

Izuku slowly looked back up, his expression entirely stoic.

"But a shield? A shield is meant to be dented. A shield is meant to be scratched, and scarred, and fractured. When the public sees a shield that has taken the worst blows imaginable and is still standing between them and danger... it doesn't just bring peace. It brings hope."

Toshinori stared at the boy. For decades, All Might had believed that a hero had to be perfect. A hero had to smile through the pain and hide their weakness, presenting an invincible front to terrify villains.

But Izuku offered a different paradigm. A hero who wore his damage proudly, using his scars to prove to the people that no matter how hard the world hit them, they could survive it.

Toshinori reached out, placing his skeletal hand gently on Izuku's massive, bandaged shoulder.

"You are right, Izuku," Toshinori said softly, using the boy's given name for the first time. "I have spent my life acting as the sword of justice. But every sword needs a sheath. Every army needs a vanguard."

Toshinori stood up, offering a deep, respectful bow to the teenager lying in the bed.

"You proved yourself today, Vanguard. You are the immovable object upon which the League of Villains broke. And when the time comes... I have no doubt that society will rally behind your unbreakable spirit."

Izuku didn't smile, but a deep, resonant rumble vibrated in his chest—a crocodilian purr of absolute contentment.

Outside the infirmary doors, Class 1-A was gathered, waiting anxiously for news on their classmate. Katsuki Bakugo stood slightly apart from the group, his hands shoved deep into his pockets, staring at the floor. He replayed the footage of the USJ in his mind over and over again. He saw Deku taking blows that would have turned him into a red smear. He saw Deku fighting alongside All Might.

Katsuki realized then, with a bitter, swallowing pride, that he had fundamentally misunderstood what strength was.

Inside the room, Izuku closed his eyes, settling back into the heavy mattress. His armor was cracked, his bones were fractured, and the villains would undoubtedly return. The world was dangerous, and the swords of society would need someone to cover their blind spots.

But Izuku Midoriya was not afraid. He was the ultimate shield, and he would never, ever break.
