What If Deku Had a Mythical Hydra Quirk with T-Rex Quirk
There is an unspoken rule in a superhuman society: your Quirk determines your destiny, but your appearance dictates how the world perceives it.
If you could conjure fire, you were powerful. If you could control water, you were graceful. If you had the strength of ten men and a smile that shone like the sun, you were a hero. But if your skin was covered in impenetrable scales, if your jaws could shatter steel, and if your body violently regenerated into something increasingly nightmarish every time it was broken… you were a monster.
Izuku Midoriya learned this lesson when he was four years old.
The doctor’s office smelled of sterile alcohol and cold linoleum. Izuku sat on the crinkling paper of the examination table, his small legs dangling, his oversized All Might t-shirt hanging loosely over a frame that had suddenly and violently begun to change. Beside him, his mother, Inko Midoriya, wrung her hands together so tightly her knuckles were white.
"It is, quite frankly, an unprecedented mutation," Dr. Tsubasa said, adjusting his spectacles as he looked over the x-rays pinned to the glowing light board. The skeletal structure on the film didn't look entirely human. The spine was elongating, the jawbone was thickening, and the shoulder blades possessed strange, secondary sockets.
"Neither of your Quirks should have produced this," the doctor continued, turning to Inko. "You possess a minor telekinetic ability to attract small objects. Your husband breathes fire. Yet, young Izuku here has manifested a Transformation-type Quirk with severe Mutant-type undertones. A polycephalic reptilian apex predator."
"I... I don't understand," Inko whispered, her voice trembling. "What is happening to my baby?"
Izuku looked down at his hands. Usually soft and pale, the skin across the back of his knuckles now possessed a faint, shimmering emerald tint. When he rubbed his thumb over them, they felt like fine-grit sandpaper. They were microscopic scales.
Dr. Tsubasa sighed, leaning forward. "We have categorized it provisionally as 'Tyrant Hydra.' It is an amalgamation of ancient mythology and prehistoric biology. Izuku has the foundational traits of a Tyrannosaurus Rex—immense bite force, biological armor, and a predatory muscle structure. But intertwined with this is a hydra mutation. He can generate secondary appendages, specifically serpentine heads, from his upper back and shoulders. And most remarkably, his cellular regeneration is hyper-active. If an appendage is damaged or severed in his transformed state, his body rapidly burns calories to grow two in its place."
Inko gasped, bringing a hand to her mouth.
Izuku simply tilted his head. He didn't understand all the big words, but he understood the pictures in his favorite hero books. "Like a dragon?" he piped up, his voice squeaking. "Can I be a hero like All Might with dragon powers?"
He offered the doctor a wide, innocent smile.
Dr. Tsubasa flinched. He actually stepped back.
Izuku’s smile dropped. He didn't know that his newly formed teeth were no longer flat human incisors, but rows of serrated, conical fangs, designed by nature to shred meat and crush bone.
"With a Quirk of this... magnitude and violence," the doctor said carefully, his eyes darting away from the four-year-old, "he will need intense psychological evaluation and strict Quirk counseling. The feral instincts tied to apex predator Quirks are notoriously difficult to control. Honestly, Mrs. Midoriya, powers like these... they are usually found in the most dangerous of villains."
The word hung in the air like a death sentence. Villain.
From that day on, a shadow fell over Izuku Midoriya. It was the shadow of a monster, and it followed him everywhere.
Ten years later, Aldera Junior High was as loud and chaotic as ever, filled with hormonal teenagers eager to show off the powers they were legally forbidden to use in public.
Izuku sat at his desk in the back of the classroom, his head down, fiercely scribbling in his notebook, Hero Analysis for the Future, Vol. 13. At fourteen, Izuku looked vastly different from the other boys. His mutation had matured. Though he remained in his "human" form to abide by Quirk laws, the passive traits of the Tyrant Hydra were impossible to hide.
He was broad-shouldered and heavily muscled, far larger than a normal fourteen-year-old, requiring a custom-tailored uniform to accommodate the sheer density of his chest and back. The skin along the sides of his neck, down his spine, and across his forearms was covered in patches of tough, overlapping emerald scales. He wore a specialized medical mask over his lower face—not because he was sick, but to hide the terrifying array of razor-sharp teeth that naturally grew in his mouth.
He also had a massive insulated thermos on his desk, filled with a nutrient-dense, high-calorie protein sludge. The basal metabolic rate required to sustain a dormant Hydra-Rex was astronomical. If Izuku didn't consume upwards of ten thousand calories a day, his body would begin to eat its own muscle mass.
"Since you're all third years, it's time to think seriously about your futures!" the homeroom teacher announced, slapping a stack of papers onto his podium. "I'll pass out handouts for your future plans now, but... you're all pretty much planning to go into the hero course, right?"
The classroom erupted in cheers, students firing off minor water jets, extending elongated fingers, and flexing glowing skin.
"Yes, yes, you all have wonderful Quirks," the teacher sighed, though he smiled. "But remember, using your powers in school is against the rules."
"Sensei! Don't lump me in with these background characters!"
The loud, arrogant voice cut through the chatter like a knife. Katsuki Bakugo leaned back in his chair, his feet propped up on his desk, a smirk playing across his face. "I'm not going to be stuck at the bottom with the rest of these rejects."
The class immediately broke into angry protests.
"You think you're better than us, Katsuki?!"
"Shut up, extras! I'll take you all on!" Bakugo roared back, small explosions popping like firecrackers in his palms, filling the room with the sharp scent of burnt caramel and ozone.
Izuku didn't look up. He just kept writing. He knew Katsuki better than anyone. They had grown up together. But their dynamic wasn't that of a typical bully and his victim. It was something much more complicated. It was a rivalry born of primal instinct.
"Ah, Bakugo, you're aiming for U.A. High, aren't you?" the teacher asked, looking at his clipboard.
The class went silent. U.A. was the national academy, the most prestigious hero school in the country. Its acceptance rate was abysmal.
"That's right!" Bakugo declared, jumping onto his desk. "I aced the mock tests! I'm the only one at this school who stands a chance. I'll surpass All Might and become the top hero! My name will be inscribed on the list of top earners—"
"Oh, right," the teacher interrupted, pushing his glasses up his nose. "Midoriya is also going for U.A., aren't you?"
The silence that followed was suffocating. Every eye in the room slowly turned toward the back corner.
Nobody laughed. In a normal world, they might have laughed at the quiet, nerdy kid aiming for the top. But no one at Aldera Junior High laughed at Izuku Midoriya. They were too afraid of him.
"Midoriya?" one student whispered, his voice trembling slightly. "The U.A. Hero Course? With that Quirk?"
"He'd tear the other examinees apart..."
"I heard he accidentally bit through a steel pipe in first year."
"He looks like a boss villain... U.A. doesn't accept monsters, do they?"
The whispers buzzed like hornets. Izuku gripped his pencil so tightly that the wood splintered and snapped under his thick, scaled fingers. He kept his head down, squeezing his eyes shut. I'm not a monster, he chanted in his head, a desperate mantra. I'm going to be a hero who saves people with a smile. I have to.
CRASH!
Bakugo’s fist slammed into Izuku’s desk, an explosion detonating against the wood, singeing the edges of Izuku’s notebook.
Izuku slowly looked up.
Bakugo was glaring down at him, his red eyes blazing with an intense, fiery fury. But beneath the anger, Izuku could smell it. His predatory senses were razor-sharp, and his olfactory glands picked up the subtle shift in Bakugo’s sweat. It wasn't just anger. It was fear.
Ever since they were five years old, Bakugo had realized something horrifying: his explosions, powerful as they were, couldn't scratch Izuku's emerald scales. Katsuki Bakugo, the boy who demanded to be the apex of his generation, instinctively knew that the quiet, mumbling boy sitting in front of him possessed a power that dwarfed his own. And Bakugo hated him for it. He hated the primal fear that clawed at his spine whenever Izuku's eyes dilated into reptilian slits.
"Listen to me, you damn reptile," Bakugo snarled, leaning in close. "You think you can stand in the same ring as me? You think a walking natural disaster like you can be a hero? You're a liability. You'll lose control and eat a civilian before you ever save one."
Izuku’s chest rumbled. He didn't mean to do it. It was an involuntary, biological response to aggression—a sub-vocal bass frequency that resonated in his chest cavity. The windows of the classroom subtly rattled. The water in the students' bottles vibrated.
Bakugo flinched, stepping back half a pace before catching himself, his face flushing with absolute rage at his own momentary retreat.
Izuku reached up and pulled his medical mask down just enough to speak, revealing a glimpse of the terrifying, serrated teeth beneath.
"Kacchan," Izuku said, his voice surprisingly soft, a stark contrast to his intimidating appearance. "I'm not trying to compete with you. We don't have to be enemies. But U.A. has been my dream since I was little. I'm going to try. I have to prove that my Quirk can be used to protect."
"You protect?" Bakugo scoffed, though his voice lacked its usual explosive volume, replaced by a venomous hiss. "Monsters don't protect, Deku. They destroy. Wake up before you get someone killed."
Bakugo spun on his heel and marched back to his desk. The rest of the class collectively exhaled, the suffocating tension breaking, though the fearful glances directed at Izuku didn't stop until the final bell rang.
Walking home, Izuku took the long way through the city. He needed the quiet. The afternoon sun cast long, golden shadows across the pavement, but Izuku barely noticed the warmth. His mind was replaying Bakugo's words on an endless loop.
Monsters don't protect. They destroy.
Izuku paused beneath a wide, concrete underpass, the shadows swallowing the sunlight. He leaned against the damp wall and let out a long, heavy sigh, pulling his mask down to breathe freely. He reached into his backpack and pulled out his damaged notebook, looking at his own intricate sketches of his Quirk.
He had spent years studying his own biology, treating himself as a subject of his Hero Analysis. He knew exactly how much force it took to activate his partial manifestations. He knew that generating the Hydra heads burned thousands of calories in seconds, leading to a state of ravenous hunger that threatened his sanity if he didn't feed immediately. He knew that the acid he could spit from his secondary maws had a pH level capable of melting solid rock.
How was he supposed to use this to rescue a cat from a tree? How was he supposed to comfort a crying child when a single roar could deafen them?
"Look at this... a medium-sized meat shield..."
Izuku’s head snapped up.
Rising from the grated sewer drain in the center of the underpass was a mass of dark, putrid sludge. It bubbled and churned, two yellow eyes and a mouth forming in the center of the viscous liquid.
"Perfect," the Sludge Villain gurgled, its voice wet and guttural. "With a body that big and strong, I could tear through the city for weeks! Don't struggle, kid. It'll only hurt for about forty-five seconds."
The sludge lunged forward like a tidal wave, wrapping around Izuku’s legs and surging up his chest, forcing its way toward his face. The villain was trying to enter his mouth, trying to hijack his central nervous system from the inside.
Izuku gagged as the foul-tasting muck pressed against his lips. Panic flared in his chest, hot and blinding.
Instinct took over.
Izuku’s eyes snapped open, the irises contracting from wide, human circles into razor-thin vertical slits glowing a toxic, bioluminescent green. The microscopic scales on his skin suddenly flared outward, hardening instantly into interlocking plates of biological armor.
With a sickening CRACK, the bones in Izuku's right arm shifted and expanded. The sleeve of his uniform tore to shreds as his arm swelled to three times its normal size, transforming into a massive, three-clawed reptilian limb.
Izuku didn't even think. He swung his transformed arm, his massive claws tearing through the sludge.
"What the—?!" the villain shrieked as the claws disrupted his fluid body. "You little freak!"
The sludge tightened its grip around Izuku’s neck, suffocating him. Izuku couldn't breathe. His vision swam with black spots. The feral rage inside him screamed to fully transform—to burst out into a three-story-tall behemoth and crush the underpass entirely. But if he did that, the street above would collapse. Civilians would die.
Even while choking on literal sewage, Izuku fought to suppress the beast. Hold it back, he thought frantically, his claws scraping uselessly against the fluid. Don't kill him. Don't destroy.
He was losing consciousness. The monster was fading back into a boy.
Suddenly, a massive shockwave rattled the underpass. The manhole cover at the far end clattered into the air, and a massive silhouette landed with a localized earthquake.
"DO NOT FEAR, YOUNG MAN!" a voice boomed, echoing off the concrete walls with a resonance that shook Izuku to his core. "FOR I AM HERE!"
Izuku forced his heavy eyelids open. Standing at the end of the tunnel, cloaked in shadow but radiating an impossible light, was the Symbol of Peace. All Might.
The Sludge Villain shrieked in terror and lunged toward the hero.
All Might simply pulled back his right arm. The air pressure around his fist visibly distorted. "TEXAS... SMASH!"
The punch never connected with the villain, but it didn't need to. The sheer kinetic force of the air pressure created a localized tornado within the tunnel. The wind tore the sludge away from Izuku, splattering the villain into a million harmless droplets against the ceiling and walls.
Izuku gasped for air, collapsing onto his hands and knees. His right arm, still heavily transformed, slowly shrank, the bones popping and grinding as they forced themselves back into a human shape. It was agonizing, but Izuku was used to it.
He coughed up dark fluid, gasping heavily.
"ARE YOU ALRIGHT, YOUNG MAN?"
Izuku looked up. All Might was standing over him, scooping up the remains of the Sludge Villain into a pair of plastic soda bottles. The hero turned, his iconic smile beaming down at Izuku.
But as All Might looked closer, his smile faltered for a fraction of a second. He saw the torn clothing, the lingering emerald scales receding into the boy's skin, and the terrifyingly sharp teeth behind Izuku's drooping medical mask. For a moment, the world's greatest hero looked... wary.
It was a look Izuku knew all too well.
"I... I'm okay," Izuku croaked, quickly pulling his mask up to cover his teeth. He scrambled backward, trying to make himself look smaller. "T-Thank you, All Might. You... you saved me."
All Might's booming laugh returned. "EXCELLENT! APOLOGIES FOR GETTING YOU CAUGHT UP IN MY VILLAIN HUNT! BUT THANKS TO YOU HOLDING HIM OFF, I WAS ABLE TO CAPTURE HIM!"
All Might patted his pocket, where the soda bottles were securely stashed. "NOW, I MUST BE OFF TO DELIVER THIS FIEND TO THE POLICE!"
"Wait!" Izuku scrambled to his feet. "Wait, please! I... I need to ask you something!"
All Might paused, bending his knees to leap. "I AM SORRY, YOUNG MAN, BUT THE WORK OF A HERO NEVER STOPS!"
"Can someone like me be a hero?!" Izuku shouted, the words tearing from his throat before he could stop them.
All Might froze. He slowly stood up straight, turning to look at the boy.
Tears were streaming down Izuku's face, soaking into the fabric of his mask. "Everyone says my Quirk is meant for a villain," Izuku sobbed, his voice cracking, shedding the intimidating aura of the predator and revealing the broken, insecure child beneath. "They say I'm a monster. That my power only destroys. Whenever I try to protect someone, I just scare them. I have to fight my own instincts every single day just to keep from hurting people."
Izuku clenched his fists over his heart. "But... I want to save people. I want to be someone who brings hope. I want to be a hero who saves everyone with a fearless smile! Even if I look like a monster... can I be a hero like you?!"
The silence in the underpass was profound. The wind howling through the tunnel seemed to stop.
All Might stared at the boy. He saw the physical evidence of a brutal, terrifying Quirk. But looking into the boy's eyes, he didn't see a monster. He saw a soul desperate to do good, burdened by a body built for carnage.
All Might opened his mouth to speak. You have a difficult path ahead, he wanted to say. But a hero's heart is not defined by their body.
But before the words could leave his lips, a sudden, agonizing spike of pain shot through All Might's side. His time limit. No, not here, All Might thought frantically. Not now!
Steam began to pour from All Might's body, his massive musculature trembling violently. He couldn't let this boy—or anyone—see his true, weakened form. He had to leave. Now.
"YOUNG MAN..." All Might forced out, his voice straining. "A HERO'S PATH IS... NEVER EASY. YOU MUST... ASK YOURSELF... WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO ENDURE."
With that cryptic, rushed response, All Might crouched and launched himself into the air, rocketing out of the underpass and disappearing into the sky, leaving a trail of steam in his wake.
Izuku stood alone in the dark underpass.
What you are willing to endure.
The words echoed in his mind, feeling less like encouragement and more like a warning. He hadn't said yes. Even All Might, the greatest hero in the world, couldn't bring himself to say that a monster could be a hero.
Izuku dropped to his knees, burying his face in his hands, his tears splashing against the concrete.
Thirty minutes later, Izuku was walking numbly through the Tatooin Shopping District. He didn't know where he was going. He was just putting one foot in front of the other, lost in a suffocating cloud of despair. Maybe Bakugo was right. Maybe the teachers were right. If he couldn't control the beast, how could he save anyone?
BOOM!
The ground shook. A massive explosion rattled the storefronts around him, followed by the sound of shattering glass and screaming civilians.
Izuku snapped out of his daze. Smoke was billowing into the sky just a few blocks away. His feet moved on their own, sprinting toward the chaos before his brain even registered the decision.
He pushed his way through a growing crowd of onlookers, stopping at the edge of a police barricade. The intersection ahead was a war zone. Fires raged out of control, consuming the nearby shops.
And in the center of the inferno was the Sludge Villain.
How? Izuku thought, horror gripping his heart. All Might captured him! Did he drop the bottles?
Several pro heroes were on the scene. Death Arms was trying to punch the sludge, but his fists sank uselessly into the fluid. Kamui Woods was attempting to bind the villain, but the roaring fires were keeping his wooden limbs at bay. Mt. Lady was stuck in the narrow street, unable to use her gigantification without crushing the surrounding buildings.
"We can't get close!" Death Arms shouted, coughing on the thick black smoke. "He's got a hostage, and the kid's Quirk is making things worse! We have to wait for someone with a suitable Quirk!"
Izuku looked closer, peering through the smoke and flames.
The Sludge Villain had enveloped a middle school student in a U.A. uniform. The boy was thrashing wildly, setting off massive explosions from his palms in a desperate bid for freedom, but it was only feeding the fires around them.
Then, the smoke cleared for just a fraction of a second.
Izuku saw the hostage's face.
It was Bakugo.
Katsuki Bakugo, the strongest kid Izuku knew. The boy who claimed he would surpass All Might. He was suffocating. But it wasn't the suffocation that made Izuku's blood run cold. It was the look in Bakugo's eyes.
Tears were streaming down Bakugo's soot-stained face. He was looking right at the crowd, pleading silently. Help me.
Something inside Izuku snapped.
It wasn't a conscious decision. It was a biological override. The anxiety, the self-doubt, the fear of society's judgment—it all vanished, burned away in a millisecond by the most primal instinct of all.
Protect the pack.
Before the police or the heroes could react, Izuku vaulted over the barricade.
"Hey! Kid, stop! Get back here!" Death Arms roared, reaching out, but Izuku was already moving too fast.
Izuku sprinted into the inferno. The heat of the flames licked at his skin, but he didn't feel it. His heart rate skyrocketed to two hundred beats per minute. His metabolism shifted into hyper-drive, burning through thousands of calories in a single, explosive breath.
I can't beat him with a human body, Izuku thought, his mind operating with terrifying, predatory clarity. I need power. I need teeth.
As Izuku ran, he tore off his backpack and threw it aside. He ripped the medical mask from his face.
"Let him go!" Izuku roared.
The Sludge Villain turned, its yellow eyes widening in recognition. "You! The brat from the underpass!"
"Deku?!" Bakugo choked out, his eyes wide with disbelief and terror as he saw Izuku charging toward him. "What the hell are you doing?!"
"RAAAAAAGH!"
Izuku leapt into the air, and as he reached the apex of his jump, he unleashed his Quirk. Partial Manifestation: Chimera State.
The transformation was violent and grotesque. A sickening symphony of cracking bone and tearing flesh echoed over the roar of the flames. Izuku’s spine elongated violently, tearing through the back of his uniform shirt. A massive, muscular tail, covered in thick emerald scales and heavy enough to crush a car, erupted from his tailbone.
His legs inverted into digitigrade joints, his thighs bulging with dense, reptilian muscle, his shoes shredding into confetti as three massive, scythe-like talons dug into the asphalt upon landing.
But the most horrifying change occurred on his back.
The skin between his shoulder blades bubbled and tore open, spraying hot blood that instantly vaporized in the fire. From the wounds, two long, serpentine necks shot outward. They writhed in the air, covered in slick, venomous green scales. At the end of each neck was a terrifying reptilian head, lacking eyes, but possessing jaws lined with needle-like fangs. They hissed, thick, glowing green saliva dripping from their maws and sizzling as it hit the pavement.
The crowd of civilians screamed in sheer terror.
"What is that thing?!" a woman shrieked.
"A villain?! Another villain attacked?!"
"God, it's a monster!"
Death Arms and Kamui Woods froze, absolutely paralyzed by the aura of sheer, unadulterated apex violence radiating from the half-transformed boy.
"Die, you little freak!" the Sludge Villain roared, whipping a massive tendril of solid sludge toward Izuku’s head.
Izuku didn't even blink. He swung his hips, bringing his massive T-Rex tail around in a devastating arc. The heavy, scaled appendage collided with the sludge tendril, shattering the fluid construct with the force of a wrecking ball. The shockwave of the impact blew out the windows of the remaining storefronts and momentarily extinguished the fires in a ten-foot radius.
"My turn," Izuku snarled. His jaw unhinged, the bones snapping into a new configuration. His mouth elongated into the terrifying, crushing maw of a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
He lunged forward with explosive speed, crossing the distance in a single bound.
The two Hydra heads on his shoulders struck first. They shot forward like vipers, sinking their fangs deep into the Sludge Villain's fluid body. The villain laughed. "Idiot! Physical attacks don't work on me!"
"They aren't physical," Izuku thought.
The Hydra heads clamped down, and their throats glowed with a toxic light. They injected a high-pressured blast of super-corrosive acid directly into the sludge.
The villain's laughter turned into a bloodcurdling scream. The acid reacted violently with the sludge, rapidly boiling the fluid and neutralizing its viscosity, turning it into brittle, crumbling ash. The villain's grip on Bakugo loosened drastically as the creature thrashed in absolute agony.
Using the opening, Izuku thrust his main head forward. His massive T-Rex jaws clamped down on the collar of Bakugo's uniform. With a powerful wrench of his neck, Izuku tore Bakugo free from the dissolving sludge, tossing the explosive boy over his shoulder where his tail caught him gently, lowering him to the ground behind him.
"You bastard!" the Sludge Villain shrieked, half of its body melted by the acid. It formed its remaining sludge into a massive, jagged scythe. "I'll kill you!"
The scythe lashed out, aiming for Izuku's neck.
Izuku couldn't dodge. Bakugo was right behind him.
Izuku twisted his body, taking the blow directly on his left side. The sludge scythe cleaved cleanly through the neck of his left Hydra head, severing it entirely.
Blood erupted like a geyser from the stump, raining down on the street. The crowd gasped in horror. Bakugo watched from the ground, his eyes wide, trembling as he watched his childhood rival take a lethal blow for him.
But Izuku didn't scream. He didn't even flinch.
The bleeding stump on his shoulder suddenly began to bubble, emitting a hiss of immense thermal heat. Flesh knit together at a speed invisible to the naked eye. Bone fused, scales formed, and with a sickening SCHLUCK, two brand-new Hydra heads burst from the single stump, roaring into the sky.
Izuku now had three serpentine heads writhing on his back, alongside his main T-Rex visage.
The Sludge Villain recoiled, pure terror overtaking it. "What... what are you?!"
Izuku’s yellow eyes burned through the smoke. He took a deep breath, his massive chest expanding. The three Hydra heads pulled back, their jaws unhinging, glowing with a terrifying, concentrated green light.
Izuku roared. It was a sound that didn't belong in the modern world. It was a prehistoric bellow that rattled the teeth of everyone in a three-block radius, a sound of absolute dominance.
Simultaneously, the three Hydra heads unleashed a torrent of pressurized acid breath. The triple beam of corrosive energy slammed into the Sludge Villain. It didn't just melt him; it evaporated him. The sheer force of the blast tore a trench through the asphalt, utterly obliterating the remaining sludge and leaving nothing but a smoking, sizzling crater in the street.
The villain was gone.
The street fell dead silent. The only sound was the crackling of the dying fires and the heavy, ragged breathing of the monster standing in the center of the road.
Izuku stood there for a moment, his adrenaline slowly ebbing. The overwhelming hunger hit him like a freight train. Generating the extra head had drained his reserves to dangerous levels. His vision blurred, and the heavy, intoxicating scent of blood—his own blood—filled his nostrils. The feral instincts whispered in his ear, urging him to hunt, to feed, to replenish.
No, Izuku commanded himself. Down.
He closed his eyes and forced the transformation back. It was always harder to revert than to transform. The pain was excruciating. The extra Hydra heads dissolved into steam, the flesh melting away and retreating into his shoulder blades. His massive tail cracked and shortened, fusing back into his tailbone. His jaws shrank, his teeth retracting into his gums, returning to his human face.
Within seconds, the towering beast was gone. In its place stood a fourteen-year-old boy, wearing torn pants and no shirt, his torso covered in a sheen of sweat and patches of rapidly fading green scales.
Izuku swayed on his feet, thoroughly exhausted. He turned around slowly and looked at Bakugo, who was still sitting on the ground, staring up at him with an unreadable expression.
Izuku tried to smile. He tried to give him the All Might smile to show him that everything was okay. But he was so tired, and his teeth were still a little too sharp.
"Are you... okay... Kacchan?" Izuku rasped, before his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he collapsed face-first onto the asphalt.
When Izuku came to, the sun was beginning to set, casting long, bruised purple shadows across the city. He was sitting on the back of an ambulance, an EMT having just finished checking his vitals.
The aftermath of the fight was a blur. The pro heroes had immediately descended upon him the moment he woke up. They were furious, but Izuku could see it in their eyes—they were keeping their distance. Death Arms yelled at him for being reckless and using an unauthorized, highly dangerous Quirk in public. Kamui Woods lectured him on the collateral damage caused by his acid.
None of them praised him for saving a life when they couldn't.
Bakugo, on the other hand, had been surrounded by heroes praising his "resilience" and his "amazing Quirk," telling him he would make a great hero one day.
Izuku didn't care about the hypocrisy. He was just glad Kacchan was safe.
Once he was cleared by the paramedics, Izuku began the long walk home, clutching his ruined, half-melted backpack. His stomach was growling fiercely. He needed to eat a massive dinner or he wouldn't be able to get out of bed tomorrow.
"Hey! Deku!"
Izuku stopped, turning around.
Bakugo was storming down the street toward him, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He looked bruised, battered, and absolutely furious.
He stopped a few feet from Izuku, breathing heavily, glaring at the ground.
"Listen to me, you damn nerd," Bakugo gritted out, his voice trembling with a mix of rage and something Izuku had never heard from him before—humiliation. "I didn't ask for your help. I didn't need you to save me! I would have gotten out of there on my own! You didn't do anything but make a mess and show everyone what a freak you are! Don't you ever look down on me again, you hear me?! I'm the one who's going to U.A.! Not you, you overgrown lizard!"
Bakugo spun around and stomped away, never looking Izuku in the eye.
Izuku watched him go. He wasn't angry. He knew how Bakugo operated. That outburst... that was Bakugo's twisted way of saying Thank you for saving my life.
Izuku sighed, turning back toward his house. The physical exhaustion was dragging him down, but the emotional weight was heavier. He had used his Quirk. He had saved someone. But he had terrified everyone in the process. The screams of the civilians still echoed in his ears.
Maybe they're right, Izuku thought, staring at his calloused, scale-flecked hands. I'm too dangerous. A hero is supposed to make people feel safe. All I do is make them afraid.
"I AM HERE!"
Izuku shrieked, jumping nearly out of his skin as a massive, muscular figure burst out from a nearby alleyway, skidding to a halt in front of him.
"A-All Might?!" Izuku gasped, stumbling backward. "What... what are you doing here? I thought you were surrounded by reporters!"
"HAHAHA! AVOIDING THE PRESS IS A PIECE OF CAKE FOR ME!" All Might boomed, striking a heroic pose. "I STAND BEFORE YOU BECAUSE I HAVE A CORRECTION TO MAKE!"
Suddenly, a violent cough racked All Might's body. Blood spurted from his mouth, and in a massive cloud of steam, the towering symbol of peace deflated, replaced by a skeletal, gaunt man in baggy clothes.
Izuku screamed again. "W-What happened to you?! You deflated! Are you a fake?!"
The skeletal man wiped the blood from his chin and sighed. "I am All Might. Though I suppose you've seen my secret twice today now."
All Might stepped forward, his sunken blue eyes locking onto Izuku with intense seriousness. "Young man. I came here to apologize to you. And to thank you."
Izuku blinked, utterly confused. "Apologize? To me?"
"Earlier today, you asked me a question," All Might said, his voice quiet, lacking the booming bravado of his hero persona, but carrying a profound weight. "You asked me if someone who looks like a monster, whose power is built for destruction, could be a hero."
Izuku looked down, his throat tightening. "I... I know the answer now. I saw how everyone looked at me today. I terrified them."
"You terrified them because they do not understand," All Might interrupted, stepping closer. "But I understand. I stood on the sidelines today, watching that Sludge Villain suffocate your friend. I hesitated. The other pros hesitated. We made excuses about our Quirks not being suited for the situation. We stood by and watched."
All Might placed a large, bony hand on Izuku's shoulder.
"But you... a boy with a Quirk that the world fears, a boy who has been told all his life that he is a villain... you were the only one who moved." All Might's eyes shone with unshed tears. "You cast aside your fear of judgment. You embraced the power you hate, all to save a single life. That, young man, is the essence of heroism."
Izuku stared at All Might, his breath hitching. The words he had waited his entire life to hear, the validation he had carved into his soul, were finally being spoken to him by his idol.
"There are stories of great heroes from the dawn of Quirks," All Might said softly. "And almost all of them share one thing in common. Before they became legends, their bodies moved before they had a chance to think."
Izuku felt the tears welling up in his eyes, hot and fast. He remembered the blinding heat of the fire. He remembered the feeling of absolute clarity as his legs propelled him forward.
"That happened to you today, didn't it?" All Might smiled. It wasn't the blazing, fearless grin of the Symbol of Peace. It was a gentle, deeply human smile.
Izuku fell to his knees, his hands clutching his chest, a sob tearing from his throat. The years of suppression, the fear, the isolation, the constant, agonizing battle against his own nature—it all spilled out of him in a torrent of tears.
"You are not a monster, young man," All Might said, looking down at the crying boy. "You have the heart of a protector. Your power is terrifying, yes, but it is your power. And with it..."
All Might knelt down, bringing himself to eye level with Izuku.
"You can become a hero."
Izuku cried loudly, his wails echoing through the quiet street. He didn't care who heard him. He didn't care about the scales on his skin or the fangs in his mouth. In that moment, bathed in the twilight of the setting sun, Izuku Midoriya was reborn.
He was the boy with the monster's shadow. But as he looked up into the eyes of his idol, he swore to himself that he would turn that shadow into a shield for the world. He would master the beast within. He would attend U.A. High School.
And he would show the world exactly what kind of hero a Tyrant Hydra could be.
The human body is a miraculous machine, designed to adapt, survive, and overcome. But Izuku Midoriya’s body was not entirely human. It was an ecosystem of prehistoric violence, a biological anomaly that constantly fought against the confines of its fourteen-year-old vessel.
For the ten months leading up to the U.A. High School Entrance Exam, Izuku put himself through a grueling, self-inflicted purgatory. If he was going to walk into the halls of the greatest hero academy in the country, he couldn't just be a boy with a monster inside him. He had to become the master of the beast.
His training ground was Dagobah Municipal Beach Park. Or, more accurately, the illegal dumping ground it had become.
"Control, Young Midoriya! Focus on the transition!"
All Might’s booming voice echoed over the mountains of rusted refrigerators, crushed cars, and discarded tires. The number one hero stood atop a leaning tower of microwaves, dressed in a baggy yellow tracksuit in his deflated, skeletal form, a stopwatch in his hand.
Down in the sand, Izuku was panting heavily, sweat pouring down his muscular torso. He was shirtless, his skin glistening under the morning sun, the emerald scales along his spine rising and falling with every jagged breath.
"Again," Izuku growled, wiping a mixture of sweat and blood from his mouth.
He closed his eyes. The greatest challenge of his Quirk, Tyrant Hydra, wasn't generating power. It was restraint. Every time he activated his Quirk, a primal, cold-blooded instinct flooded his brain. It was a predator's high—a chemical rush of adrenaline and dopamine that urged him to hunt, to consume, to destroy anything in his path.
He inhaled sharply, visualizing the anatomical diagrams he had obsessively drawn in his notebooks. Partial Manifestation: Legs.
His heart hammered against his ribs. The scales on his hips and thighs suddenly flared. With a sickening series of pops and cracks that made All Might wince, Izuku's femurs lengthened. His knees inverted, snapping backward into a digitigrade structure. Dense, corded reptilian muscle erupted beneath his skin, tearing his sweatpants at the seams. His feet elongated, his toes fusing and sharpening into three massive, scythe-like talons that dug deeply into the wet sand.
Izuku’s eyes snapped open. The irises had shifted from their human green into slitted, bioluminescent yellow.
"Three seconds!" All Might called out. "A second faster than yesterday! Now, the agility test!"
Izuku didn't respond verbally. He couldn't. The shift in his vocal cords made human speech nearly impossible in this state. Instead, he let out a low, rumbling hiss and lunged forward.
The kinetic force generated by his transformed legs was astronomical. With a single leap, Izuku cleared a forty-foot mountain of garbage. He landed on the roof of an abandoned city bus, his talons piercing the rusted metal like wet tissue paper to anchor himself. He vaulted from the bus to a stack of washing machines, moving with the terrifying, predatory grace of a creature born to dominate the food chain.
Focus, Izuku thought, fighting the haze of the predator’s instinct. Don't just break things. Precision.
"Target on your left!" All Might shouted, throwing a heavy cinderblock high into the air.
Izuku twisted in mid-air. Partial Manifestation: Shoulders.
The skin on his back split open, hot steam hissing into the salty ocean air. Two serpentine Hydra heads shot out from his shoulder blades, their jaws unhinging. They didn't bite the cinderblock; instead, the back of their throats glowed with a toxic, neon green light.
SPIT!
Two pressurized bolts of highly concentrated acid shot from the Hydra mouths, intercepting the cinderblock in mid-air. The stone didn't shatter; it instantly melted, dissolving into a harmless, steaming puddle of gray sludge before it even hit the sand.
Izuku landed heavily on the beach, his chest heaving. He immediately commanded his body to revert. The Hydra heads dissolved, retreating back into his skin, and his legs snapped back into their human, plantigrade form. He collapsed onto his hands and knees, gasping for air as the crippling exhaustion hit him.
All Might jumped down from the trash pile, walking over and handing Izuku a massive, two-gallon jug filled with a thick, gray, foul-smelling sludge.
"Drink," All Might instructed gently. "You're burning too fast."
Izuku took the jug and practically inhaled the contents. It was a specialized, hyper-dense caloric paste Inko made for him, consisting of raw eggs, blended chicken breasts, mass-gainer protein, and fish oil. It tasted like absolute death, but to his starved cells, it was pure ambrosia.
"Your partial transformations are becoming seamless, Young Midoriya," All Might said, watching the boy gulp down the equivalent of ten thousand calories in under a minute. "But your basal metabolic rate is your greatest weakness. When you generated those two heads, your core temperature spiked to dangerous levels."
Izuku finished the jug, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, careful not to cut his lip on his own serrated teeth. "It's the regeneration factor. The Hydra biology forces my cells to rapidly divide and multiply to create the new heads. It burns through my energy reserves instantly. If I fully transform, I calculate I only have about five minutes of combat time before my body starts eating its own muscle mass to sustain the beast."
"Five minutes as a kaiju is more than enough for most villains," All Might chuckled, sitting on a rusted bumper. "But hero work is unpredictable. Endurance is key. Have you felt any slipping in your mental state?"
Izuku looked down at the sand. "Sometimes. When the hunger hits, the... the lizard brain gets loud. It wants to hunt. It looks at the seagulls, and it just... wants to bite." He shuddered, pulling his knees to his chest. "I'm terrified that in the heat of battle, I'll lose myself."
All Might placed a comforting, skeletal hand on Izuku's shoulder. "Fear is good, my boy. Fear means you respect your power. It means you are not a villain. A villain revels in their destructive urges. A hero chains them, tempers them, and directs them toward protecting others. You have spent ten months forging those chains. I believe in you."
Izuku looked up at his idol, the setting sun reflecting in his eyes. He gave a firm, determined nod.
Ten months of agonizing bone-breaking, calorie-chugging, and instinct-suppressing led to this very morning.
February 26th. The U.A. Entrance Exam.
Izuku stood before the towering glass and steel gates of U.A. High School. The sheer scale of the building was intimidating, a monolithic fortress designed to mold the next generation of gods.
He tugged nervously at the collar of his middle school uniform. Underneath the dark fabric, his body was tense. He had bulked up significantly over the last ten months. He was broad, dense, and radiated an aura of suppressed power. The emerald scales on his neck and the back of his hands were polished, and he wore his custom medical mask securely over his lower face to hide his predatory maw.
Just a normal student, Izuku told himself, adjusting his oversized backpack, which was currently weighed down by a dozen emergency caloric-paste packets. Walk in, take the test, don't scare anyone.
"Out of my way, Deku."
The voice was like a match striking a rough surface. Izuku didn't need to turn around to know it was Bakugo. His olfactory senses immediately picked up the scent of nitroglycerin and aggressive pheromones.
Izuku stepped aside, keeping his head down. "Morning, Kacchan."
Bakugo stopped, glaring at him from the corner of his eye. Ever since the Sludge Villain incident, things had been strangely quiet between them. Bakugo hadn't actively bullied him, but the hostility had morphed into a quiet, simmering intensity. Bakugo saw Izuku as a genuine threat now—a rival.
"Don't think just because you have a flashy, freakish Quirk that you're going to beat me," Bakugo muttered, his red eyes narrowing. "I don't care how big you get. I'll blast your scales to ash."
Without waiting for a reply, Bakugo shoved his hands into his pockets and marched through the gates.
Izuku let out a long sigh, the tension leaving his shoulders. He took a step forward, ready to face his destiny, but his foot caught on an uneven paving stone.
His center of gravity pitched forward. Time seemed to slow down. His primal instincts instantly flared, preparing to manifest a massive T-Rex tail to counterbalance him, but he forcibly stopped himself. No! Don't transform in the crowd!
He braced for the humiliating impact with the concrete.
But it never came.
Instead, he felt a light tap on his shoulder, and suddenly, the oppressive pull of gravity vanished. Izuku floated in mid-air, his arms flailing comically as he hovered inches above the ground.
"Whoops! Are you okay?"
Izuku was gently righted and his feet touched the ground. He turned around, his eyes wide. Standing behind him was a girl with a round face, rosy cheeks, and short, bobbed brown hair. She was smiling brightly.
"Sorry for using my Quirk on you without asking," she said, pressing her fingertips together. "But it would be bad luck to fall right before the exam, wouldn't it?"
Izuku froze. His heart rate spiked, not from predatory instinct, but from pure, unadulterated adolescent panic. A girl. A cute girl had just talked to him. And touched him.
"I-I-I... uh... t-thank you!" Izuku stammered, bowing so fast he nearly headbutted his own knees. His medical mask slipped slightly, revealing the edge of his serrated teeth, and the morning sun caught the emerald scales on his neck.
He immediately reached up to pull his mask back into place, panic seizing him. Oh no. She saw. She's going to scream. She's going to call me a villain—
"Woah!" the girl suddenly leaned forward, invading his personal space. Her large brown eyes were wide with wonder, not fear. "Are those real scales? They're so pretty! They look like jade!"
Izuku stopped breathing. "P-Pretty?"
"Yeah!" She reached out, her finger hovering just an inch from the scales on his forearm. "Can I touch them? Oh, wait, that's weird, I'm sorry! I'm Ochaco Uraraka. My Quirk is Zero Gravity, but yours looks so cool! Are you like a dragon or a dinosaur or something?"
Izuku’s brain short-circuited. For fourteen years, his Quirk had elicited only three reactions: fear, disgust, or accusations of villainy. Never awe. Never curiosity. And definitely never pretty.
"I-I'm Izuku Midoriya," he mumbled, a blush burning fiercely beneath his scales. "And... um... yes. I'm... part T-Rex. And part Hydra."
Uraraka beamed. "That is so awesome! You're going to totally wreck the practical exam! Well, I gotta go get to my seat. Good luck, Midoriya! See you in there!"
She waved brightly and jogged off toward the main building.
Izuku stood rooted to the spot, his mind reeling. The dark cloud that usually hovered over him felt... lighter. She didn't run away, he thought, his chest swelling with a newfound warmth. I can do this.
The written portion of the exam was a breeze for Izuku. Ten months of obsessively analyzing Quirks, physics, and biology had given him an encyclopedic knowledge of heroics.
The real challenge began in the auditorium.
Izuku sat in the massive, stadium-style seating, surrounded by hundreds of other hopefuls. At the front, the Voice Hero: Present Mic was explaining the rules of the practical exam.
"You'll be conducting ten-minute mock urban battles!" Present Mic shouted, his voice echoing off the walls. "There are three types of faux villains stationed in each battle center. You earn points based on their difficulty level! Your goal is to use your Quirks to tear these villains apart!"
Izuku furiously scribbled in his notebook. Robots. They're using robots to avoid moral complications with human combatants. That's a massive advantage for me. My acid will melt their internal circuitry, and I don't have to hold back my bite force for fear of killing them.
"Excuse me! May I ask a question?"
A tall, broad-shouldered boy with glasses and severe blue hair suddenly stood up, pointing rigidly at Present Mic. "On the printout, there are four types of villains! If this is a misprint, then U.A., the top hero academy in Japan, should be ashamed! Furthermore..."
The boy spun around, pointing directly at Izuku. "You! The one with the mask! You've been muttering this entire time! It's distracting! And quite frankly, concealing your face in a professional setting is highly suspicious. If you are here for a pleasure trip, I suggest you leave!"
The entire auditorium turned to look at Izuku. The familiar whispers began.
Look at his size.
Are those scales?
He looks dangerous...
The familiar weight of judgment pressed down on Izuku's shoulders. But then, he remembered Uraraka’s smile. He remembered All Might’s words. A hero chains their instincts.
Izuku slowly stood up. He didn't cower, nor did he puff his chest out aggressively. He simply bowed deeply to the boy with glasses.
"I apologize for muttering. It's a bad habit when I'm analyzing data," Izuku said, his voice deep, rumbling, but perfectly polite. He tapped his mask. "As for this, it is a registered medical necessity to control the passive aspects of my Mutation-type Quirk, as mandated by the Quirk Regulation Act. I mean no disrespect to U.A. or my fellow examinees."
The bespectacled boy blinked, caught off guard by the polite, legally sound, and incredibly mature response. "I... see. I apologize for my assumption. Please, continue!" He bowed sharply and sat down.
Present Mic cleared his throat. "Right on, listener! To answer your question, the fourth villain is worth zero points! It's an arena trap! I recommend running if you see it!"
Izuku sat back down, taking a deep breath. Keep calm. Keep control.
Battle Center B was a sprawling, hyper-realistic replica of a major metropolitan city. Skyscrapers loomed overhead, and wide asphalt streets crisscrossed the arena.
Izuku stood behind the massive starting gates, surrounded by dozens of other examinees. He spotted Uraraka a few yards away, stretching her wrists. He also spotted the boy with the glasses, who was doing intense lunges.
Izuku closed his eyes and began his pre-combat routine. He reached into his bag and pulled out three dense caloric paste packets, squeezing them into his mouth beneath his mask and swallowing them in rapid succession. The heavy influx of calories hit his stomach, his biology instantly converting the mass into raw, volatile energy.
He unclipped his medical mask, folding it and putting it in his pocket. He wouldn't need it in there.
"Right, let's start!"
Present Mic’s voice boomed from the watchtowers, but there was no countdown. The massive metal gates simply groaned open.
The other examinees hesitated, waiting for a buzzer.
Izuku didn't.
His eyes snapped open, blazing with bioluminescent yellow light. Partial Manifestation: Legs.
The transformation was instantaneous. The scales flared, the bones snapped and lengthened, and his legs inverted into massive, muscular T-Rex appendages.
Before anyone could even blink, Izuku’s talons dug into the concrete, shattering the ground beneath him. He exploded forward with the force of a missile, leaving a cloud of dust and debris in his wake.
"What are you waiting for?!" Present Mic yelled over the speakers. "There are no countdowns in a real battle! That kid with the scales has the right idea! Run, run, run!"
The examinees scrambled into the city, but Izuku was already blocks ahead.
His predatory senses were on absolute overdrive. His olfactory glands tasted the air. He didn't just look for the robots; he could smell the ozone, the grease, and the hot copper wiring. He could hear the heavy hydraulic steps of the faux villains echoing off the buildings.
A 1-Pointer rolled around the corner, its single red eye locking onto him. "TARGET ACQUIRED."
Izuku didn't slow down. As he sprinted toward it, his right arm bubbled and shifted. Partial Manifestation: Arm.
His arm swelled, scales hardening into biological armor, his fingers fusing into three massive, hooked claws. He leaped into the air, using his immense momentum to swing his transformed arm. The claws sheared through the 1-Pointer’s metallic chassis like butter, severing its head and sending the robotic torso crashing to the ground.
One point.
"More," Izuku growled, his voice distorting into a low, bestial register.
Three 2-Pointers emerged from an alleyway, raising their mechanical stingers.
Izuku planted his talons, skidding to a halt. Partial Manifestation: Shoulders.
The skin on his back split open, and two serpent-like Hydra heads burst forth, shrieking a terrifying, dual-toned hiss. Izuku didn't even have to look at his targets; the Hydra heads possessed their own autonomous sensory organs.
Both heads reared back, their throats glowing toxic green. They spat two concentrated, high-velocity streams of acid. The highly corrosive liquid struck the 2-Pointers, instantly melting through their armor plating and dissolving their internal motherboards. The robots collapsed into a sizzling, melting heap of slag.
Seven points.
Izuku was a blur of emerald violence. He moved with a brutal, terrifying efficiency. He didn't use flashy, explosive attacks. He used apex biology.
He jumped off walls with his digitigrade legs, tearing through 3-Pointers with a sweeping manifestation of his massive tail. He used his Hydra heads as shoulder-mounted turrets, sniping robots from afar with acid while his main body engaged in close-quarters combat.
In the observation room, the U.A. faculty sat in stunned silence, watching the monitors.
"Good lord," Midnight whispered, watching Izuku rip a 3-Pointer in half with his bare hands. "His ferocity is off the charts. He fights like a wild animal."
"No, look closer," Aizawa countered, his tired eyes narrowing as he watched the screen. "He's completely in control. He's only manifesting the exact appendages he needs for each strike to conserve energy. He’s minimizing collateral damage to the buildings. It looks savage, but it’s a highly calculated, surgical use of a mutant transformation Quirk."
"He's racked up forty-five points in six minutes," Snipe whistled. "Kid's a powerhouse."
"Let's see how he handles the real test," a small, bear-like creature named Nezu said, his paw hovering over a large red button. "The true mark of a hero isn't how they destroy, but how they react to overwhelming despair."
Nezu pressed the button.
Back in Battle Center B, Izuku had just crushed a 2-Pointer beneath his talons when the ground began to tremble.
It wasn't a minor tremor. It was a massive, localized earthquake. The windows of the surrounding skyscrapers shattered, raining glass down on the street.
At the far end of the avenue, a cloud of dust billowed into the sky, blocking out the sun. From the smoke emerged a machine of impossible proportions. It was easily the size of a twenty-story building. Its massive treads crushed entire storefronts as it moved forward, its red optic glowing like a demonic sun.
The Zero Pointer.
Izuku’s breath caught in his throat. His predatory instincts, usually so arrogant and aggressive, suddenly recoiled. Threat level: Apex. Unwinnable. Retreat.
"Run!" one of the examinees screamed. "That thing is massive!"
The other students turned and fled in a blind panic, sprinting away from the mechanical titan. Izuku's human brain agreed with them. He had over fifty points. He had passed. There was no logical reason to fight it.
He turned to run, his powerful legs preparing to launch him to safety.
But then, he heard it.
"Ow... it hurts..."
Izuku froze. His heightened hearing cut through the sound of grinding metal and crumbling concrete. He snapped his head around, his yellow eyes scanning the dust cloud.
Near the base of the Zero Pointer, pinned beneath a massive slab of rubble from a destroyed building, was Uraraka. Her leg was trapped, and she was desperately trying to push the concrete away, tears streaming down her dirty face.
The Zero Pointer’s massive, tank-like treads were rolling inexorably toward her. In less than thirty seconds, she would be crushed flat.
The other students were still running. No one was looking back.
Izuku’s heart stopped.
Monsters don't protect, Deku. They destroy.
Bakugo's voice echoed in his mind. The voices of the doctors, the teachers, the strangers who looked at him with fear.
Izuku looked down at his trembling, scale-covered hands.
No.
His blood ignited. The fear vanished, replaced by an overwhelming, protective fury.
I will not let her die.
Izuku didn't run away. He turned and sprinted directly toward the towering behemoth.
"Hey! What is he doing?!" an examinee yelled, looking back. "He's gonna get killed!"
Izuku ignored them. He did the math in his head. Target is too large for partial manifestations. Acid won't melt the treads in time. Need absolute physical force. Caloric reserves: low, but sufficient for a two-minute burn. Commencing Full Transformation.
As Izuku ran, he threw his head back and unleashed a roar that shook the very foundations of the city.
The transformation didn't happen in pieces this time. It happened all at once, an explosive, terrifying cascade of biological hyper-growth.
His clothing shredded into dust as his body expanded at an impossible rate. His bones cracked like thunder, thickening and lengthening. Thick, impenetrable emerald scales erupted across every inch of his skin, overlapping like medieval plate armor. His legs bulged into massive, tree-trunk thick pillars of muscle, ending in talons the size of cars.
A massive, spike-covered tail, thirty feet long, whipped out from behind him, shattering the asphalt.
His torso elongated, leaning forward parallel to the ground. His arms shrank slightly, drawing close to his chest, adorned with razor-sharp hooks.
His main head expanded, his jaw elongating into a massive, terrifying maw lined with rows of serrated teeth, each the size of a greatsword.
But it didn't stop there.
The flesh on his back bubbled and tore, spraying a mist of superheated steam. From his spine, two massive, serpentine necks erupted, growing twenty feet into the air. The two Hydra heads materialized, their jaws unhinging, their eyes burning with toxic fury.
When the steam cleared, Izuku Midoriya was gone.
In his place stood a towering, fifty-foot-tall, three-headed, emerald-scaled Tyrannosaurus Rex.
In the observation room, All Might leapt out of his seat, gripping the railing, his eyes wide. The other teachers were utterly speechless.
"My god..." Midnight breathed. "It's a kaiju."
Back in the arena, Uraraka looked up through her tears, the shadow of the Zero Pointer eclipsing the sun. But then, a new shadow fell over her.
She stared in absolute awe and terror as the three-headed beast stepped over her, placing itself squarely between her and the Zero Pointer.
The Zero Pointer locked onto the massive biological threat. It raised its colossal metallic arm, preparing to smash the beast into the earth.
Izuku didn't give it the chance.
The two Hydra heads lashed out like lightning. They didn't bite; they coiled their long, muscular necks around the Zero Pointer's descending arm, acting like living, scale-covered ropes. The sheer physical strength of the Hydra necks halted the robot's punch in mid-air, gears grinding and servos whining in protest.
With the robot's arm pinned, Izuku’s main T-Rex body lunged forward.
He slammed his massive skull directly into the center of the Zero Pointer’s chassis. The impact sounded like a bomb going off. The metal dented inward, but the robot remained standing.
Izuku opened his main jaws, revealing the terrifying rows of teeth, and bit down directly onto the robot’s central chest plating. The bite force of a Tyrannosaurus Rex was legendary, but Izuku’s Quirk amplified it to mythological proportions.
CRUNCH.
His teeth pierced the reinforced titanium plating.
At the exact same moment, the two Hydra heads unhinged their jaws. Their throats glowed brighter than they ever had before, illuminating the dusty street in a sickening green light. They unleashed a point-blank, dual-stream of hyper-pressurized acid directly into the robot's exposed shoulder joints.
The metal hissed, boiled, and melted away.
Izuku planted his massive talons into the ground. Using the immense, corded muscle of his back and legs, he pulled.
With a deafening shriek of tearing metal, Izuku ripped the entire front chassis and right arm off the Zero Pointer.
The robot staggered backward, sparks exploding from its exposed internal circuitry, its balance completely destroyed.
Izuku released the metal, letting it crash to the ground. He spun his massive body around, pivoting on one leg. His thirty-foot-long tail, acting as a biological wrecking ball, whipped around at supersonic speed.
The tail slammed into the side of the crippled Zero Pointer.
The kinetic force was absolute. The massive robot was lifted off its treads, its internal structure shattering completely, before it crashed backward onto the empty street, collapsing into a mountain of ruined, sparking metal.
Silence fell over Battle Center B.
The towering, three-headed beast stood victorious over the ruins of the titan. Izuku raised all three of his heads to the sky and let out a triumphant, earth-shaking, multi-vocal roar that echoed for miles.
Down on the ground, Uraraka stared at the beast, her heart pounding. She wasn't afraid. She was looking at a savior.
But up above, Izuku was dying.
The caloric burn of the full transformation, combined with the extreme physical exertion, had completely drained his reserves. His body was starving. The feral, predatory instinct screamed at him to find meat, to consume, to survive.
Izuku looked down. He saw Uraraka.
Food, the lizard brain whispered.
Izuku’s yellow eyes dilated.
NO! Izuku’s human consciousness roared, fighting back with every ounce of his willpower. Protect! Do not harm! Revert! REVERT!
It was a battle harder than fighting the robot. Izuku fought his own biology, forcing the transformation to collapse.
The beast let out a pained shriek as the biological mass began to violently dissolve. Steam poured from his body in thick, blinding clouds. The Hydra heads melted away, the tail retreated, and the massive bones ground back down to human size.
When the steam finally cleared, Izuku plummeted from the air, his human form returning. He crashed into the asphalt a few feet away from Uraraka, completely naked, his skin blistered and steaming, covered in blood and sweat.
He didn't move. He was completely unconscious, his breathing dangerously shallow.
"Midoriya!" Uraraka cried out, ignoring the pain in her trapped leg.
"TIME'S UP!" Present Mic's voice echoed through the arena.
The exam was over.
A week later, Izuku sat at his small kitchen table, staring blankly at a plate of eight scrambled eggs and half a pound of bacon. His body had been in recovery mode for days. Recovery Girl’s healing kiss had restored his stamina, but he had lost nearly ten pounds of muscle mass during that single transformation. He had been eating non-stop just to get back to his baseline.
"Izuku, honey," Inko said softly, walking into the kitchen. Her eyes were red from crying, a constant state since the exam. She placed a small, metallic disc on the table in front of him. It had the U.A. seal on it. "It came."
Izuku stopped chewing. He stared at the disc.
He knew he had enough points to pass the practical, but there were other factors. He had lost control for a fraction of a second at the end. Had they seen that? Did they deem his Quirk too volatile, too monstrous for the hero course?
With a trembling hand, Izuku reached out and tapped the top of the disc.
A holographic projection flickered to life, and the towering form of All Might appeared in the center of the kitchen.
"I AM HERE, AS A PROJECTION!" All Might boomed.
Izuku gasped, nearly falling out of his chair.
"YOUNG MIDORIYA!" All Might’s hologram continued, his expression turning serious. "YOU PASSED THE WRITTEN EXAM WITH FLYING COLORS. AND IN THE PRACTICAL, YOU SCORED FIFTY-FIVE VILLAIN POINTS. A RESPECTABLE SCORE, EASILY ENOUGH TO PASS."
Izuku let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.
"HOWEVER!" All Might raised a finger. "U.A. IS NOT JUST ABOUT DESTROYING VILLAINS. IT IS ABOUT RESCUING THOSE IN NEED!"
The hologram shifted, showing a video feed from the exam. It was Uraraka, standing in front of Present Mic after the exam had ended.
"Um, excuse me!" Uraraka was saying, pointing toward where Izuku had been taken away on a stretcher. "That boy with the scales... the one who turned into that amazing dragon-thing. He saved me. Can I give him some of my points? He looked so tired, and I don't want him to fail because he stopped to help me!"
Izuku’s eyes filled with tears. She had called his Quirk amazing. She had tried to give him her points.
"A HERO COURSE THAT REJECTS THOSE WHO DO THE RIGHT THING WOULD BE NO HERO COURSE AT ALL!" All Might declared proudly. "IZUKU MIDORIYA! FOR YOUR SELFLESS ACT OF SAVING A FELLOW EXAMINEE AT GREAT RISK TO YOURSELF, YOU HAVE BEEN AWARDED SIXTY RESCUE POINTS!"
The scoreboard appeared on the projection.
Izuku Midoriya: 115 Points. 1st Place.
"YOU PROVED THAT DAY THAT YOU ARE NO MONSTER," All Might said softly, looking directly into the camera. "YOU ARE A PROTECTOR. WELCOME, IZUKU. THIS IS YOUR HERO ACADEMIA."
The projection fizzled out.
Izuku sat in silence. The tears finally spilled over, running down his cheeks and dropping onto the table. But this time, they weren't tears of despair or frustration.
They were tears of absolute joy.
He had done it. He had taken the beast, the nightmare that society had told him would only bring destruction, and used it to protect. He was going to U.A.
He wiped his eyes, his serrated teeth flashing in a wide, genuine smile. He picked up his fork and began to eat with renewed vigor.
The Tyrant Hydra had awoken, but this time, it was hungry for justice.
The alarm clock didn’t just ring; it buzzed with an obnoxious, mechanical shrillness that cut through the early morning silence of the Midoriya apartment.
Izuku’s hand shot out from beneath his All Might themed comforter. But it wasn’t a human hand. In the groggy, twilight state between sleep and waking, his subconscious control had slipped. His right arm was a massive, emerald-scaled reptilian limb, ending in three razor-sharp, hooked claws.
With a sleepy, uncoordinated swat, the heavy claws collided with the alarm clock. The plastic casing didn’t just break; it completely vaporized under the sheer kinetic force, driving the shattered remains through the bedside table and into the drywall.
Izuku bolted upright, his eyes wide, his irises flashing from a slitted yellow back to a human green.
He stared at the hole in the wall, then down at his arm, which was already popping and hissing as it shrank back into its human shape, leaving his skin raw and steaming.
"Damn it," Izuku whispered, rubbing his face. "That's the third one this month."
He threw off the covers and swung his legs over the side of the bed. His body felt heavy, hollowed out by the ravenous void in his stomach. The Tyrant Hydra Quirk was a relentless furnace. Even in his sleep, his cells were constantly turning over, dividing, and regenerating at an abnormal rate to maintain his dense musculature and the microscopic scales that speckled his skin.
He trudged into the kitchen, the floorboards groaning under his immense, unnatural weight. His mother, Inko, was already awake, humming a soft tune as she stood at the stove. Beside her was a towering stack of Tupperware containers.
"Morning, Izuku," she smiled warmly, turning to hand him a mixing bowl. It wasn't filled with cereal. It was filled with a dozen scrambled eggs, two pounds of ground beef, and a massive mound of white rice, all drenched in high-calorie nutrient oil.
"Morning, Mom," Izuku rumbled, his voice naturally deep and gravelly. He sat at the table and began to shovel the food into his mouth. He didn't eat for pleasure anymore; he ate for survival.
"Today is the big day," Inko said, her eyes shining with unshed tears as she watched him eat. "Your first day at U.A. High School. I... I still can't believe it."
Izuku paused, a grain of rice stuck to his cheek. He looked at his mother, feeling a swell of profound gratitude. For fourteen years, she had defended him against neighborhood parents, terrified teachers, and a society that looked at her son and saw a villain. She had endured the astronomical grocery bills and the constantly broken furniture without a single complaint.
"I'll make you proud, Mom," Izuku promised, swallowing heavily. "I'm going to show them that I belong there."
After polishing off the equivalent of five standard meals, Izuku went to his room to dress. His U.A. uniform was custom-tailored, legally mandated to accommodate his mutation. The fabric was interwoven with kevlar and elastane to prevent it from shredding if he accidentally partially manifested. He buttoned the blazer over his broad, heavily muscled chest, adjusting the collar around the thick patches of green scales on his neck. Finally, he picked up his customized medical mask—a sleek, dark green, carbon-fiber guard that covered his lower face, hiding his serrated teeth. He clipped it behind his ears.
He looked in the mirror. He didn't look like a normal high school student. He looked like a bodyguard, a brawler, a beast wearing a human disguise.
No, Izuku corrected his reflection, narrowing his eyes. I look like a hero.
The commute to U.A. was a familiar exercise in isolation. As Izuku boarded the train, the passengers naturally gravitated away from him, giving him a wide berth. A mother pulled her child closer; a businessman nervously adjusted his tie, refusing to make eye contact.
Izuku kept his head up. He didn't slouch to hide his size like he used to. He let the U.A. emblem on his shoulder do the talking. I passed the same exam as the elites, he told himself.
When he finally navigated the labyrinthine hallways of the school and found the massive, oversized door labeled 1-A, he took a deep, steadying breath. His predatory senses flared—he could smell a mixture of teenage anxiety, varied colognes, and the sharp, unmistakable scent of nitroglycerin.
Bakugo was already inside.
Izuku slid the massive door open. The classroom was bustling with energy, but the moment he stepped over the threshold, a hush fell over the students nearest the door.
Sitting near the front, with his feet propped aggressively on his desk, was Katsuki Bakugo. Standing over him, chopping his arms like a malfunctioning robot, was the tall, bespectacled boy from the entrance exam.
"Remove your feet from that desk at once!" the boy demanded. "It's insulting to the upperclassmen who came before us, and to the craftsmen who made it!"
"Like I care," Bakugo scoffed, a feral smirk on his face. "What middle school did you go to, you stuck-up extra?"
"I attended Somei Private Academy! My name is Tenya Iida!"
"Somei? So you're a damn elite, huh?" Bakugo's palms sparked slightly. "I'll have fun crushing you."
Iida gasped, genuinely appalled. "Crushing me? You truly wish to be a hero with that attitude?"
Iida turned, his gaze catching the massive frame standing in the doorway. His eyes widened behind his rectangular glasses, and he immediately marched over to Izuku.
"You!" Iida announced loudly, drawing the attention of the rest of the class. "You're the student who discovered the true meaning behind the practical exam! You deduced the rescue points!"
Izuku held up his hands defensively. "I-I didn't deduce anything. I just... reacted."
"Modesty! A true mark of a hero!" Iida bowed a perfect ninety degrees. "I am Tenya Iida! I apologize for my behavior during the orientation. I judged you entirely on your appearance and your muttering, failing to see the brilliant, heroic mind beneath! You are clearly vastly superior to me!"
"S-Superior? No, please, lift your head!" Izuku stammered, vastly uncomfortable with the attention.
"Hey! It's the dragon guy!"
Izuku turned his head. Pushing through the crowd was Ochaco Uraraka, beaming as brightly as the sun. "You made it! I'm so glad! Your Quirk was so amazing during the exam! Are you feeling better? You looked totally wrecked after you punched that giant robot!"
Izuku’s heart did a violent flip in his chest. "I-I'm much better now, Uraraka-san! Thank you for, um, trying to give me your points. That was really nice of you."
From his desk, Bakugo watched the interaction, his red eyes narrowing into deadly slits. The scent of burnt sugar in the room grew stronger. Deku. He thinks he's made it. He thinks he can just waltz in here and play hero with these extras.
"If you're just here to make friends, you can pack up your things and leave."
The voice was tired, flat, and completely devoid of inflection.
The class froze, turning toward the hallway. Lying on the floor, zipped into a bright yellow sleeping bag, was a scruffy man with bloodshot eyes and unkempt black hair. He slithered into the classroom like a massive, depressed caterpillar, unzipping the bag and standing up to reveal a black jumpsuit and a scarf made of strange, metallic fabric.
"It took you all eight seconds to quiet down," the man sighed, pulling a juice pouch from his pocket and taking a sip. "Time is a limited resource. You kids lack rationality. I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa."
The class collectively gasped. A pro hero as their homeroom teacher?
Aizawa dug into his sleeping bag and pulled out a stack of U.A. gym uniforms. "Put these on and head out to the P.E. grounds. We're doing a Quirk Apprehension Test."
The morning sun beat down on the dirt field behind the school. Class 1-A stood in their gym uniforms, buzzing with nervous energy. Izuku felt particularly exposed. The gym uniform was tight, the synthetic fabric clinging to his dense musculature and the rough patches of scales on his forearms and neck.
"A Quirk Apprehension Test?" Uraraka asked nervously. "What about the entrance ceremony? Or orientation?"
"If you're going to become a pro hero, you don't have time for leisurely events," Aizawa said, his back turned to them. "U.A.'s selling point is how unrestricted its school traditions are. That's also how the teachers run their classes. You kids have been doing standard fitness tests since junior high, right? Sit-ups, long jump, ball throw. But you were forbidden from using your Quirks. That's highly irrational. The Ministry of Education is procrastinating."
Aizawa turned, his cold eyes landing on Bakugo. "Bakugo, you finished first in the practical exam. What was your best result for the softball throw in junior high?"
"Sixty-seven meters," Bakugo answered confidently.
"Try doing it with your Quirk." Aizawa tossed him a baseball. "You can do whatever you want, as long as you stay in the circle. Give it all you've got."
Bakugo stepped into the chalk circle, rolling his shoulders. A savage grin spread across his face. He wound up, his right arm pulling back, and violently hurled the ball.
"DIE!"
A massive explosion detonated from his palm the exact moment the ball left his fingertips. The shockwave rattled the windows of the school, and the ball rocketed into the sky, leaving a trail of black smoke before disappearing into the clouds.
"Know your own maximum first," Aizawa said, holding up a small digital tracker. The screen read: 705.2 meters. "That is the most rational way to form the foundation of a hero."
The class erupted in excitement.
"Seven hundred meters?! That's insane!"
"We can use our Quirks as much as we want! This looks so fun!"
Aizawa's eyes flashed with a dangerous, terrifying intensity. The air around him seemed to drop ten degrees.
"Fun?" Aizawa repeated softly. "You have three years to become heroes. Will you have an attitude like that the whole time? Alright. New rule. Whoever comes in last place in all eight tests will be judged to have no potential... and will be punished with expulsion."
The excitement vanished, replaced by absolute horror.
"Expulsion?!" Uraraka cried out. "But it's the first day! Even if it wasn't, that's totally unfair!"
"Natural disasters, massive accidents, and selfish villains," Aizawa droned, running a hand through his hair. "Calamities whose time or place cannot be predicted. Japan is covered with unfairness. Heroes are the ones who reverse those situations. If you wanted to go talk to your friends at McDonald's after school, too bad. For the next three years, U.A. will inflict hardship after hardship on you. Go beyond. Plus Ultra. Overcome it with all you've got."
Izuku clenched his fists. He didn't feel fear. He felt a deep, thrumming anticipation. This wasn't a game. This was exactly what he had prepared for. The beast inside him stirred, tasting the challenge in the air.
Test 1: 50-Meter Dash.
Izuku lined up at the starting line next to a boy with blonde, sparkly hair named Aoyama, who possessed a Navel Laser.
Izuku focused his breathing. I can't fully transform. The caloric drain will ruin me for the rest of the day. I need micro-manifestations. Surgical strikes.
He closed his eyes. Partial Manifestation: Legs.
The familiar, sickening crunch of bone and tearing of muscle echoed across the starting line. The students flinched as Izuku's gym pants strained against his suddenly expanding, reptilian thighs. His knees inverted, and his shoes tore apart completely as three massive talons dug into the starting blocks.
Aoyama looked over, his confident smile dropping entirely. "Mon dieu..."
"On your marks," the robotic voice from the camera stated. "Get set..."
BANG.
Izuku didn't run. He launched. The digitigrade structure of the T-Rex legs was nature’s ultimate biological spring. The kinetic force shattered the dirt beneath him. In a single, explosive bound, he crossed the fifty meters, tearing through the finish line before Aoyama had even fired his laser.
"1.85 seconds," the robotic voice chimed.
Izuku skidded to a halt, his talons gouging deep trenches into the earth. He immediately reverted, the legs snapping back into their human shape with a sickening pop. He stumbled slightly, gasping as the wave of fatigue hit his central nervous system.
He looked back. The class was staring at him in stunned silence. Even Bakugo looked mildly infuriated.
Test 2: Grip Strength.
Izuku grabbed the digital grip-meter. He didn't bother changing his whole arm. He simply let the scales on his fingers harden and his nails elongate into thick, bone-crushing claws. He squeezed.
The machine shrieked, the plastic casing shattering and the digital screen glitching out before dying completely. Izuku sheepishly handed the broken pieces to Aizawa, who merely sighed and recorded an infinity symbol on his clipboard.
Test 3: Standing Long Jump.
Izuku stepped up to the sandbox. He needed forward momentum and perfect balance. Partial Manifestation: Tail.
His tailbone expanded, ripping through the back of his gym uniform, extending into a heavy, twenty-foot-long, muscular appendage. With a powerful swing of the tail serving as a biological counterbalance, Izuku leaped, clearing the entire sandbox and landing softly on the grass beyond, his tail retracting instantly as he touched down.
Through every test, Izuku was clinical. He was treating his body not as a terrifying monster, but as a multi-tool of biomechanical superiority.
Finally, it was time for the final test. The Softball Throw.
Izuku watched as Uraraka got an infinity score by using her Zero Gravity. Now, it was his turn.
He stepped into the circle, the baseball feeling tiny in his large, calloused hand.
He paused, calculating. I can't throw it normally. My human arm strength is high, but not superhuman. I could manifest a T-Rex arm, but the biomechanics of a T-Rex shoulder aren't built for throwing; they're built for hooking and pulling. I need propulsion.
The lizard brain whispered to him. Spit.
Izuku's eyes widened. Yes. The acid breath. But not acid. Pressure.
Izuku took a deep breath, dropping his medical mask to his chin. The class tensed, watching the imposing boy prepare.
Partial Manifestation: Secondary Maw.
The skin on Izuku's right shoulder bubbled and split. Blood hissed as it hit the air, instantly vaporizing into steam. With a terrifying shriek, a single, serpentine Hydra head shot out from his shoulder blade. It whipped around, its jaws unhinging, revealing rows of dripping, needle-like teeth.
The class collectively recoiled.
"What the hell is that?!" Kaminari yelled, pointing a shaking finger.
"He has a dragon growing out of his back!" Ashido gasped.
Izuku ignored them. He tossed the baseball into the air.
The Hydra head snapped forward, catching the baseball gently between its teeth.
Izuku focused all of his mental energy on the internal glands of the Hydra neck. Normally, these glands mixed two inert chemicals to create highly corrosive acid. But Izuku forced the glands to hold back the corrosive agent, mixing only the propulsive gas.
The Hydra’s throat began to bulge, glowing with a fierce, blinding white light instead of its usual toxic green. The pressure built up inside the serpentine neck, expanding it like a balloon about to pop.
Izuku braced his legs, digging his heels into the dirt.
The Hydra head aimed squarely at the sky.
BOOM!
The head opened its jaws, and a hyper-pressurized shockwave of pure biological gas erupted from its mouth, firing the baseball like a cannonball. The concussive blast kicked up a cloud of dust and nearly knocked the front row of students off their feet.
The ball vanished into the stratosphere, leaving a visible shockwave ring in the air.
Izuku gasped, commanding the Hydra head to dissolve. It melted away into steam, retreating back into his shoulder. He fell to one knee, panting heavily, sweat pouring down his face.
Aizawa looked at his tracker. He turned it around for the class to see.
850.3 meters.
"Whoa..." Kirishima whispered. "That was so manly, but so freaky."
Izuku stood up, wiping his brow, but before he could step out of the circle, Aizawa's capture scarf suddenly shot out, wrapping tightly around Izuku's torso and yanking him forward.
Izuku gasped as Aizawa pulled him close. The teacher's hair was standing on end, his eyes glowing a terrifying red.
Izuku felt a sudden, profound emptiness in his body. The low, thrumming hum of his hyper-metabolism vanished. The heavy, protective scales on his arms retreated into normal, pale skin. His teeth flattened. For the first time in ten years, Izuku felt completely, utterly human.
Aizawa was erasing his Quirk.
"I've been watching you," Aizawa said, his voice a low, dangerous whisper meant only for Izuku. "You have a powerful Quirk. A monstrous one. But you are using it like a scalpel. That requires immense concentration."
Izuku struggled against the scarf, suddenly feeling very fragile. "Y-Yes, sir."
"Let me make something perfectly clear, Midoriya," Aizawa hissed. "Your Quirk relies on apex predator biology. It is driven by instinct, hunger, and dominance. Right now, in a controlled environment, you can chain the beast. But what happens when you're exhausted? What happens when you're bleeding out in an alleyway, and a villain pushes you past your breaking point? Will the hero remain, or will the monster take over and slaughter everyone in sight?"
Izuku’s breath hitched. Aizawa was echoing his deepest, darkest fear.
"I won't," Izuku said, his voice trembling, but his eyes locking fiercely onto Aizawa's. "I won't let it."
"Words are cheap," Aizawa stated, releasing his Quirk.
Instantly, the heavy weight of the Hydra-Rex slammed back into Izuku’s cells. His scales flared out defensively, and his teeth sharpened back into fangs. He stumbled, gasping as the feral heat flooded his veins.
Aizawa's scarf unraveled, dropping Izuku to the ground. "If you ever lose control, Midoriya, if you ever let the instinct override your rationale... I won't just expel you. I'll put you down myself. Understand?"
Izuku looked up at his teacher. He saw the cold calculation in Aizawa's eyes, but beneath it, he saw a pro hero doing his job—protecting society from potential threats.
Izuku stood up, squaring his broad shoulders. He pulled his medical mask back up over his face.
"Understood, Sensei," Izuku replied firmly.
Aizawa stared at him for a long moment, then blinked, returning his eyes to normal. "Good. We're done here. Scores are on the projection."
Izuku looked at the holographic scoreboard.
1st: Momo Yaoyorozu
2nd: Shoto Todoroki
3rd: Katsuki Bakugo
4th: Izuku Midoriya
He had placed fourth overall. He let out a sigh of relief. He wasn't expelled. But as he looked over to Bakugo, he saw the explosive blonde glaring daggers at him, his fists trembling with rage. Bakugo hadn't beaten him by much, and the fact that Izuku was breathing down his neck was driving him insane.
The beast inside Izuku rumbled in response to Bakugo's aggression. Izuku closed his eyes and forced it down into the dark. Chain the beast, he reminded himself.
The next afternoon, the anxiety of Aizawa’s test was replaced by absolute euphoria.
"I AM... COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!"
All Might threw open the door to Class 1-A, striking a ridiculous, muscle-flexing pose in his Silver Age costume. The class erupted into cheers.
"Today, we are doing Combat Training!" All Might announced, holding up a small remote. "And to go with that, these! Costumes made based on your Quirk registrations and requests you sent in before school started!"
The wall opened up, revealing briefcases marked with the students' seat numbers.
"Get changed and gather at Ground Beta!" All Might commanded.
Twenty minutes later, Izuku walked out of the tunnel into the fake urban city of Ground Beta. He felt strangely exposed, yet incredibly secure.
His hero costume was radically different from the traditional spandex suits. It was designed entirely around the violent reality of his Quirk. He wore a pair of heavy, military-grade cargo pants, dark emerald green with black reinforcements. The pants were incredibly loose, held up by a heavy tactical belt, designed with breakaway seams down the sides to allow his T-Rex legs and tail to manifest without shredding the fabric.
He was shirtless, exposing his heavily scarred and scale-covered torso. Across his chest and back was an X-shaped tactical harness made of carbon-weave, designed to stretch. It left his shoulder blades and upper back completely bare, allowing his Hydra heads to erupt without obstruction. He wore heavy, fingerless gauntlets on his forearms to protect his human hands, and heavy combat boots.
Instead of his medical mask, his costume support item was a specialized, metallic jaw-guard. It wrapped around his lower face, resembling a muzzle, but it was designed to unlock and expand outward if he shifted his jaw into its T-Rex state, providing biological armor for his mouth while still allowing him to bite or spit acid.
"Midoriya! Whoa, you look so cool!"
Izuku turned. Uraraka was running up to him, wearing a skintight pink and black spacesuit. Izuku instantly turned bright red, looking away to avoid staring.
"T-Thanks, Uraraka-san! Yours looks great too! Very... functional!"
"It's a little tight," she laughed, rubbing the back of her head. "But it helps with my pressure points! You look like a gladiator or something!"
"A gladiator?" Izuku murmured. It was better than being called a monster.
"Now that you're all here, it's time for the Battle Trial!" All Might announced, standing in the center of the street. "You will be split into teams of two, acting as Villains and Heroes! The Villains are hiding a nuclear weapon in the building! The Heroes must go in and secure it, or capture the Villains! Let's draw lots!"
Izuku pulled his lot. Team A.
He looked up to see who his partner was. Uraraka was waving her Team A lot excitedly. Izuku smiled. He was partnered with the one person in class who wasn't afraid of him.
"And now, for the first match!" All Might reached into the boxes. "Team A will be the Heroes! Team D will be the Villains!"
Izuku’s blood ran cold.
Team D.
He turned his head slowly. Across the group, Katsuki Bakugo was holding a Team D lot, standing next to Iida. Bakugo wore a black tank top and massive, grenade-shaped gauntlets on his forearms.
Bakugo met Izuku’s gaze. The look in Bakugo's eyes wasn't just competitive. It was murderous. It was the look of a man who needed to kill a god to prove he wasn't weak.
"Villain Team, head inside and set up!" All Might instructed. "Hero Team, you have five minutes before you enter!"
As Bakugo walked past Izuku to enter the building, he leaned in close.
"I'm going to expose you, Deku," Bakugo whispered, his voice trembling with manic intensity. "I'm going to show everyone that underneath all those scales, you're just a dumb beast. And I'm the one who tames beasts."
Izuku didn't flinch. He just watched Bakugo walk away. The lizard brain didn't roar in anger this time. It went deadly, chillingly quiet. The ultimate sign of an apex predator preparing for a lethal hunt.
Five minutes later, Izuku and Uraraka stood in front of the building.
"Alright, here's the plan," Izuku whispered, pulling his metallic jaw-guard up. "Kacchan is going to come for me. He won't care about the weapon. He won't care about the objective. He only cares about proving that his explosions can beat my Quirk."
"That's so selfish!" Uraraka frowned. "But Iida will probably stay behind to guard the weapon."
"Exactly. When Kacchan attacks, I'm going to hold him off. You use the distraction to slip past and find the weapon. Once you engage Iida, let me know on the comms."
"Are you sure you can handle Bakugo alone?" she asked worriedly. "He looks really strong."
Izuku’s yellow eyes narrowed, staring into the dark hallway of the building. "I know how he fights. I just have to make sure I don't break the building."
BEEP.
"HERO TEAM, GO!" All Might's voice echoed through their earpieces.
Izuku and Uraraka slipped through a window on the first floor, stepping quietly into the dark, concrete corridors. Izuku immediately engaged his predatory senses. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath through his nose.
The building smelled of dust, old concrete, and... ozone. Burnt sugar. Getting closer.
"Uraraka, jump!" Izuku suddenly commanded, his eyes snapping open.
Izuku threw his arm out, manifesting a massive, scaled T-Rex arm in a fraction of a second. He swept Uraraka backward just as the concrete wall next to them exploded violently.
Flames and debris filled the hallway. Through the smoke, Bakugo emerged, a savage grin on his face, his right gauntlet smoking.
"A sneak attack?!" Uraraka coughed, waving the smoke away. "Bakugo, that's cheating!"
"A real fight doesn't have rules, Pinky!" Bakugo sneered. He locked eyes with Izuku, who was using his massive T-Rex arm as a shield to block the debris. "Come on, Deku. Dodge that one."
"Go, Uraraka!" Izuku barked.
Uraraka didn't hesitate. She tapped her boots, making herself weightless, and floated up through a hole in the ceiling created by the blast, disappearing to the upper floors.
Bakugo didn't even look at her. "Let her run. Iida will crush her. I only want you."
Izuku commanded his arm to shrink, the bones popping back into their human form. "Kacchan, you're going to destroy the building if you use those gauntlets inside. We have to fight smart."
"Don't tell me what to do!" Bakugo roared. He lunged forward, igniting explosions in both palms to propel himself at terrifying speed.
He swung a right hook directly at Izuku's face.
Izuku ducked, the explosion singeing his hair. He didn't transform. He stepped inside Bakugo's guard, grabbed his arm, and used Bakugo's own momentum to throw him over his shoulder, slamming the blonde into the concrete floor.
Bakugo grunted in pain but instantly fired an explosion at the floor, rocketing himself back to his feet and spinning mid-air to deliver an explosive roundhouse kick.
Izuku raised his forearms, letting the scales flare just enough to form biological bracers. The explosion connected, blasting Izuku backward. His boots skidded across the concrete, leaving deep grooves. The heat was intense, but the scales absorbed the kinetic shock.
"Stop holding back!" Bakugo screamed, firing a barrage of rapid-fire explosions that lit the hallway up like a strobe light. "Transform! Turn into that ugly freak so I can blast it to pieces!"
Izuku gritted his teeth, dodging and weaving through the blasts. If I manifest the tail, I'll take out the support pillars. If I manifest the legs, I'll crash through the floor. I'm too big for this space!
"You think you're better than me?!" Bakugo yelled, his voice cracking with hysteria. "You looked down on me when we were kids! You hid this power from me, making me think you were weak, just so you could laugh at me!"
Izuku’s eyes widened. "That's not true! I never thought you were weak, Kacchan! I was terrified of my own Quirk! You were always the one with the perfect Quirk for a hero!"
"SHUT UP!" Bakugo roared, rushing forward. He faked a right hook, ducked under Izuku's guard, and planted his palm directly against Izuku's chest harness.
BOOM.
A point-blank explosion sent Izuku flying down the hallway. He crashed through a wooden door, tumbling into an empty, cavernous room. He hit the wall hard, coughing up a spatter of blood.
Midoriya! Uraraka's voice crackled over the earpiece. I found the weapon! It's on the fifth floor, room 502! But Iida cleared out all the debris. I have nothing to use my Quirk on!
"Stand by, Uraraka," Izuku coughed, wiping his mouth. "I'm... dealing with Kacchan."
Bakugo walked slowly into the room, his head tilted downward. His shoulders were heaving. He reached up and grabbed the small metal pin located on his massive right gauntlet.
Izuku slowly pushed himself to his feet. His predatory instincts were screaming. The air pressure in the room was shifting. Bakugo was drawing in an absurd amount of oxygen.
"They designed these gauntlets to store my nitroglycerin sweat," Bakugo said, his voice eerily calm. "When they're full, I can pull this pin to release a concentrated blast. A blast big enough to vaporize a monster."
In the monitoring room, All Might grabbed the microphone. "YOUNG BAKUGO, STOP! ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL HIM?! IF YOU FIRE THAT INSIDE, THE BUILDING WILL COLLAPSE!"
"He'll survive if he dodges!" Bakugo screamed back, completely ignoring the teacher.
Izuku’s mind raced. If I dodge, the blast will hit the wall behind me. It'll tear through the supports. The ceiling will collapse. Uraraka is directly above me.
Izuku couldn't dodge. He couldn't run.
Monsters destroy.
Izuku stood his ground. He planted his boots firmly onto the concrete. He reached up and unclasped his metallic jaw-guard, letting it fall to the floor.
Heroes protect.
"Die!" Bakugo pulled the pin.
The world went white. A massive, roaring pillar of fiery destruction erupted from Bakugo’s gauntlet. It wasn't just an explosion; it was a continuous wave of thermal and kinetic annihilation, tearing up the floorboards, melting the concrete, and screaming toward Izuku.
Partial Manifestation: Twin Hydras!
The skin on Izuku’s back exploded violently. Two massive, thick serpentine necks shot outward, interweaving with each other. The Hydra heads materialized, their jaws unhinging to an impossible degree.
Izuku didn't fire acid. He didn't attack.
He thrust his chest forward, and the two Hydra heads dove directly into the oncoming blast.
The flames consumed the room. The monitoring cameras went completely white with static. The students in the observation room screamed in terror.
Inside the inferno, Izuku was experiencing agony beyond human comprehension. The Hydra heads opened their massive maws and physically swallowed the explosive force. The concussive energy and thermal heat tore down their biological throats, detonating inside their stomachs.
Izuku’s hyper-regeneration kicked into overdrive. The internal organs of the Hydra heads were being vaporized and instantly regrown, second by second, burning through millions of calories. The pain was blinding, white-hot, and absolute.
But not a single ounce of the explosion hit the walls behind him. He was a living, regenerating shield.
When the flames finally died down, the room was filled with thick, suffocating smoke.
Bakugo stood panting, his arm aching from the recoil. He stared into the smoke, his eyes wide, a manic smile on his face. "Did you see that, All Might? I beat him. The apex is dead."
Suddenly, a terrifying, multi-vocal hiss echoed through the smoke.
Bakugo froze.
The smoke parted violently. Izuku stood there, his torso covered in third-degree burns that were visibly healing, his skin hissing and bubbling. The two Hydra heads on his shoulders were charred black, coughing up thick, acrid smoke, completely exhausted, but still alive.
Izuku’s human eyes were gone, replaced by glowing, vertical yellow slits.
"Uraraka," Izuku rasped, his voice distorting into a demonic bass. "Hold on to a pillar."
What? Okay!
Izuku dropped his center of gravity. Partial Manifestation: Legs.
The massive T-Rex legs erupted, shattering the concrete beneath him.
"Impossible," Bakugo whispered, taking a step back in sheer terror.
Izuku didn't roar. He didn't give Bakugo time to react. He launched himself forward with the force of a bullet train.
He crossed the room in a millisecond. Before Bakugo could even raise his hands to fire another blast, Izuku was on him.
Izuku didn't bite him. He didn't use his claws. He simply used his massive, transformed legs to tackle Bakugo at the waist.
The sheer kinetic force of the impact carried both boys completely through the ceiling.
CRASH!
Izuku and Bakugo shattered the floorboards of the fifth story, exploding into room 502 in a shower of concrete and rebar.
Iida, who was monologuing near the fake weapon, shrieked as a massive reptilian blur burst through the floor.
Izuku slammed Bakugo into the ground, pinning the explosive blonde with his immense weight. Izuku’s T-Rex legs securely locked Bakugo's arms to his sides, neutralizing his gauntlets completely.
Izuku leaned over Bakugo, his burned, smoking torso heaving. The two charred Hydra heads hissed, thick green saliva dripping from their jaws, inches from Bakugo's face. Izuku’s own teeth were fully serrated, his jaw locked in a terrifying snarl.
Bakugo stared up into the eyes of the beast. He couldn't move. He was completely, utterly powerless beneath the weight of the monster. The fear he had felt as a child returned, multiplied by a thousand.
"Are you going to eat me?" Bakugo choked out, tears of frustration and terror welling in his eyes.
Izuku’s yellow eyes stared down into Bakugo's red ones.
Slowly, agonizingly, Izuku forced the beast back. The yellow slits widened, returning to human green. The Hydra heads dissolved into steam, and the massive T-Rex legs shrank back into human limbs.
Izuku sat on Bakugo's chest, heavily bruised, burned, and completely exhausted. He looked down at his childhood rival and offered a soft, sad smile.
"I told you, Kacchan," Izuku panted. "I'm not a monster. I'm a hero."
Behind them, Uraraka ran forward and slapped her hands onto the paper mache missile.
"Secured!" she yelled happily.
A buzzer sounded throughout the building.
"HERO TEAM... WINS!" All Might's voice roared over the intercom.
Izuku slowly climbed off Bakugo, offering him a hand up.
Bakugo lay on the floor, staring at the ceiling, ignoring Izuku’s hand. He had hit Izuku with a lethal, point-blank blast, and Izuku had used his own body to absorb it, just to protect the building, and then subdued him without leaving a single scratch on him.
Bakugo closed his eyes, a single tear slipping down his cheek. He hadn't just lost a fight. He had been fundamentally broken by a power—and a morality—he couldn't comprehend.
As Izuku walked over to celebrate with Uraraka, he felt a sharp pain in his chest. His heart rate was erratic. He was starving, his body desperate for calories, his predatory instincts whining like a starved dog in the back of his mind.
He had chained the beast today. But as he looked down at his shaking, scale-flecked hands, he knew the chain was fragile. U.A. was going to push him to his absolute limits. And eventually, the chain would snap.
The bus ride to the Unforeseen Simulation Joint—affectionately known as the USJ—was supposed to be a reprieve, a mundane transition between the high-octane battle trials and the grueling rigors of rescue training. For most of Class 1-A, it was a chance to relax, to chatter idly, and to marvel at the idyllic, sprawling campus of U.A. High School passing by the windows.
For Izuku Midoriya, it was an exercise in extreme metabolic management.
He sat near the back of the bus, his massive frame taking up a seat and a half. The specially designed hero costume he wore—the heavy cargo pants and the stretching carbon-weave harness—felt restrictive today. His body was running hot. The residual caloric deficit from his brutal clash with Katsuki Bakugo a few days prior was still wreaking havoc on his central nervous system.
Izuku unscrewed the cap of his massive, two-gallon thermos and took a long, heavy gulp. The thick, gray, hyper-caloric sludge tasted like chalk, fish oil, and raw egg yolk. It was repulsive, but as the dense liquid hit his stomach, he felt the frantic, shivering cells in his muscles sigh in relief.
"Midoriya," a blunt, croaking voice called out.
Izuku lowered the thermos, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, careful of the rough emerald scales that dotted his knuckles. He turned his head to see Tsuyu Asui staring at him with unblinking, wide eyes.
"I generally say whatever comes to my mind," Tsuyu continued, pressing a finger to her chin. "Your Quirk... it’s incredibly strong. But it’s also really scary. During the battle trial, when you pinned Bakugo to the floor, you looked like a villain boss right out of a horror movie. Ribbit."
The bus went dead silent. Eijiro Kirishima, sitting across the aisle, visibly winced. "Whoa, Tsu, you can’t just say stuff like that! That’s super unmanly! Midoriya’s a hero bro!"
Izuku offered a tight, forced smile, pulling his metallic jaw-guard up slightly to ensure his serrated teeth were completely hidden. "I-It’s okay, Kirishima. She’s right." He looked down at his hands, watching the microscopic scales shimmer in the sunlight filtering through the window. "My Quirk is... it’s a mutation meant for extreme predation. I know what I look like. I know it terrifies people."
"I don't think it's scary!" Ochaco Uraraka chimed in from the front, turning around in her seat. "I think it's amazing! You used your body to shield the building from Bakugo's explosion! That's the most heroic thing I've ever seen!"
At the mention of his name, Bakugo, who was sitting near the front of the bus, stiffened. He didn't turn around. He didn't scream or spark explosions from his palms. He just stared out the window, his jaw clenched so tightly it looked like his teeth might shatter. Ever since the battle trial, Bakugo had been completely, unnervingly silent. The sheer biological dominance Izuku had displayed had fractured Bakugo’s worldview, and the explosive boy was currently trapped in a volatile state of introspection and denial.
"Sure, it’s heroic," Denki Kaminari leaned over the aisle. "But Asui has a point. When you grew those two extra dragon heads and just... ate the explosion? Man, I thought my heart was gonna stop. Are you, like, always hungry? Because you're drinking what looks like wet cement."
"It's a high-calorie nutrient paste," Izuku explained softly, shaking the thermos. "My basal metabolic rate is incredibly high. When I partially manifest my appendages, my cells rapidly divide to create the new bone, muscle, and scale tissue. It burns thousands of calories in seconds. If I don't constantly consume fuel, my body enters starvation mode. It will literally start digesting its own muscle mass to keep my core organs functioning. And if the hunger gets too intense..."
Izuku stopped himself. He didn't want to finish that sentence. If the hunger gets too intense, the lizard brain takes over. The feral instinct overrides my humanity, and everything around me starts to look like prey.
"Well, whatever it takes, it’s a powerhouse Quirk," Kirishima grinned, hardening his arm into jagged rock. "My Hardening is great for brawling, but it doesn't have that flashy, overwhelming presence yours does. You’re definitely pro-hero material, Midoriya."
Izuku’s heart warmed slightly at the camaraderie. For the first time in his life, he was surrounded by peers who, despite being intimidated by his physical form, were attempting to understand him. They were treating him like a classmate, not a monster.
"We're here," Shota Aizawa's tired voice cut through the chatter from the front of the bus. "Stop messing around and get off."
The Unforeseen Simulation Joint was an architectural marvel. The massive, domed structure loomed over the landscape, resembling an oversized stadium with a glass roof. As the class filed off the bus and walked through the massive double doors, they were met by a breathtaking sight. The interior of the dome housed several distinct ecological zones: a sprawling ruined city, a rocky mountainous terrain, a roaring fire zone, and a massive aquatic shipwreck lake.
Standing at the entrance to greet them was a figure wearing a bulky, astronaut-like suit.
"Welcome, students!" the Space Hero, Thirteen, announced cheerfully, waving their puffy arms. "I have been waiting for you! Inside this facility, we have simulated various disasters and accidents. Shipwrecks, landslides, fires, windstorms! This is the Unforeseen Simulation Joint!"
The class buzzed with excitement, but Thirteen held up a hand, their tone turning surprisingly grave.
"Before we begin, I have one... or two, or three, or four things to say," Thirteen began. "As I'm sure you know, my Quirk is called Black Hole. I can suck up anything and turn it to dust. It is a very effective Quirk for removing debris and saving people from disaster zones."
Izuku nodded, furiously taking mental notes.
"However," Thirteen continued, their voice echoing in the cavernous space. "It is also a power that can easily kill."
The excitement in the air instantly evaporated. Izuku felt a cold chill run down his spine. He looked at Thirteen, feeling a profound, sudden kinship with the rescue hero.
"Many of you possess Quirks that are incredibly dangerous," Thirteen swept their gaze across the students, their unseen eyes seemingly lingering on Izuku. "In our superhuman society, Quirks are heavily regulated and restricted. But it only takes one wrong move, one lapse in control, for a Quirk meant for saving to become a weapon of mass destruction. Aizawa's physical fitness test showed you your potential. All Might's battle trial showed you the danger of using your powers against others. Today, you will learn how to use your powers to save human lives."
Thirteen bowed deeply. "Do not forget that your powers are not meant to inflict harm. They are meant to protect. That is all. Thank you for listening."
The class erupted into applause. Izuku felt a lump form in his throat. They are meant to protect. I can do this. I can chain the beast.
"Right, let's get started," Aizawa said, stepping forward. "First off, we'll—"
Aizawa stopped. His posture went completely rigid.
Izuku’s predatory senses flared a fraction of a second before Aizawa reacted. The air pressure in the dome suddenly dropped. The hairs on the back of Izuku’s neck stood on end, and a sharp, metallic scent—like copper and ozone—flooded his olfactory glands. It was the scent of a severe biological threat.
Down in the central plaza, near the fountain, the space itself began to warp. A pinpoint of black, violet-edged mist suddenly expanded outward, tearing a hole in the fabric of reality.
"Gather together and don't move!" Aizawa roared, his voice cracking like a whip. He slapped his goggles down over his eyes, his capture scarf unfurling around him like angry serpents. "Thirteen, protect the students!"
"What is that?" Kirishima asked, stepping forward and squinting down at the plaza. "Is this like the entrance exam where the training starts right away?"
"Don't step forward!" Aizawa yelled. "Those are villains!"
From the swirling vortex of black mist, a hand emerged, clutching the edge of the portal. Then, a figure stepped through. He was a lanky, sickly-looking young man covered in disembodied, grayish hands. The hand covering his face obscuring his features entirely, save for a single, bloodshot eye peering through the fingers.
Behind him, massive, hulking figures began to pour out of the mist. Mutants, heteromorphs, weapon-users—a small army of thugs and killers, their eyes burning with malicious intent.
And then came the final figure. It was a hulking, towering monstrosity. It possessed a massive, hyper-muscular body, dark skin covered in thick scars, and a terrifying bird-like beak. The most horrifying feature was its exposed brain, sitting unprotected atop its skull, its large, soulless eyes swiveling wildly.
Izuku’s heart hammered against his ribs. The Tyrant Hydra Quirk reacted instantly to the overwhelming presence of enemies. A low, subsonic rumble began to vibrate in Izuku’s chest cavity. His human pupils snapped from circles to razor-thin slits. The scales on his neck flared outward, sharpening into biological armor.
"Villains?" Mineta shrieked, backing away. "No way! How did they get into a U.A. facility?!"
"The sensors aren't responding," Thirteen said urgently, checking a wrist console. "They must have someone with a radio-wave Quirk jamming our signals."
"Thirteen, begin evacuation. Try calling the school," Aizawa ordered, leaping down the massive staircase toward the plaza alone.
Izuku watched his teacher plunge into the horde of villains. Aizawa was a master of close-quarters combat, his erasure Quirk neutralizing the villains' advantages while his binding cloth subdued them with brutal efficiency. But there were too many. It was a suicide mission meant to buy them time.
"We have to go!" Iida shouted, taking command. "Everyone, toward the exit!"
The class turned to run, but suddenly, a massive plume of dark mist erupted from the floor in front of the exit doors, blocking their path. The mist coalesced, forming the shape of a tall, elegantly dressed man composed entirely of shadowy fog, wearing a metal neck brace.
"Greetings," the mist villain spoke, his voice smooth and polite. "We are the League of Villains. It may be presumptuous of us, but we have invited ourselves into the home of the heroes, U.A. High School, in order to have All Might, the Symbol of Peace, take his last breath."
Izuku grit his teeth, his metallic jaw-guard clicking as his jaw muscles clenched. Kill All Might? They brought an army just to kill All Might?
"I believe he was supposed to be here," the mist man continued. "Has there been some sort of change? Well, no matter. My role remains the same."
Bakugo and Kirishima didn't wait. With simultaneous roars of defiance, both boys launched themselves at the mist villain. A massive explosion rocked the entrance facility, sending shockwaves of heat and smoke through the air.
"Did we get him?!" Kirishima yelled.
"No, get back!" Thirteen shouted.
The smoke cleared, revealing the mist completely unharmed. "My, my," the villain chuckled darkly. "You students are golden eggs. But quite violent. Allow me to scatter you."
Before anyone could react, the mist expanded violently, sweeping over the students like a tidal wave of darkness.
Izuku didn't even have time to manifest an appendage. The black fog completely enveloped him. He felt a sickening sensation of weightlessness, a total loss of spatial orientation. His predatory senses went blind; he couldn't smell, he couldn't hear, he could only feel the cold, suffocating embrace of the warp gate.
And then, he was falling.
The black fog vanished, replaced by the blinding overhead lights of the USJ. Izuku was plummeting through the air, roughly thirty feet above a massive, churning body of water.
The Shipwreck Zone, Izuku realized in a panic.
Gravity took hold. Izuku’s body was not normal. Because of the sheer density of the hyper-compressed reptilian muscle and the biological armoring of his scales, Izuku weighed nearly three hundred pounds in his base human form.
He hit the water like an anvil.
The impact knocked the breath from his lungs. The cold water rushed in, swallowing him whole. Izuku sank like a stone, the heavy combat boots and cargo pants of his costume dragging him down into the murky depths. He flailed his arms, desperately trying to swim upward, but his dense biology made natural buoyancy impossible.
Suddenly, a long, incredibly strong, frog-like tongue wrapped securely around his waist.
With a powerful yank, Izuku was pulled upward through the water. He broke the surface, gasping for air, choking on the chlorinated water. He was thrown through the air, landing heavily on the rusted, slanted deck of a simulated shipwreck in the center of the lake.
A moment later, Mineta came screaming through the air, crashing onto the deck next to Izuku.
Finally, Tsuyu leaped from the water, landing gracefully on the railing of the ship in a deep crouch.
"Are you two okay? Ribbit," Tsuyu asked, her calm demeanor completely unshaken by the fact that they had just been warped across the facility by a villain.
"I... I think so," Izuku coughed, pushing himself up onto his hands and knees. The metal deck was slick with algae and rust. He looked around. They were completely surrounded by water, cut off from the mainland.
"Villains! Villains are going to kill us!" Mineta shrieked, clutching his head and rocking back and forth. "We're just kids! We're gonna die!"
"Calm down, Mineta," Izuku said, his voice dropping an octave as his tactical mind began to combat his rising panic. He forced his breathing to slow, engaging the analytical protocols he had honed over ten months of training.
He stood up, walking to the edge of the ship and looking down into the water.
The lake was swarming. Dozens of aquatic-mutant villains were circling the ship like a school of bloodthirsty piranhas. There were men with shark fins, women with octopus tentacles, and massive, hulking thugs with scaled skin and webbed appendages.
"They're waiting for us," Izuku muttered, his eyes narrowing.
"Why don't they just sink the ship? Ribbit," Tsuyu asked, tilting her head.
"They don't know our Quirks," Izuku deduced quickly. "That warp villain just scattered us randomly. If they knew what our powers were, they would have sent you, Tsuyu, to the Fire Zone. Putting a frog-mutant in the water is a tactical error. They're playing it safe, waiting for us to make a move."
Suddenly, the ship groaned loudly. The metal deck shifted, tilting precariously.
"Well, they figured it out!" Mineta screamed, pointing down. "One of them is cutting the hull!"
Izuku saw it. A massive villain with arms resembling serrated sawfish blades was systematically carving through the rusted metal supports of the ship. The vessel was taking on water fast. In less than two minutes, the ship would slip beneath the surface, plunging them directly into the waiting jaws of the aquatic horde.
"What do we do, Midoriya?" Tsuyu asked, looking at him. Despite her calm tone, Izuku could see the tension in her posture.
Izuku closed his eyes. The lizard brain whispered to him. Transform. Dominate. Hunt.
I can't use my full transformation, Izuku analyzed rapidly. The T-Rex is built for terrestrial combat. Its legs are designed for running, not swimming. Its arms are too short to paddle. If I go full kaiju, I'll just sink to the bottom of the lake and drown, and my massive body will create a tidal wave that will crush Tsuyu and Mineta against the walls of the dome.
He opened his eyes. The yellow slits glowed brightly in the dim light of the Shipwreck Zone.
The T-Rex is useless here. But the Tyrant Hydra is a chimera. And Hydras... Hydras are mythological water serpents that dwell in swamps.
"I have a plan," Izuku said, turning to his classmates. "But you have to trust me. And... please don't be afraid of me."
Mineta was already crying. "I'm already afraid of you, Midoriya! You're terrifying!"
Izuku grabbed the edges of his tactical harness, pulling it tight. "Tsuyu, you can carry Mineta and swim fast, right?"
"Yes, but if I jump in with him, the villains will swarm us before I can get to the shore."
"They won't be paying attention to you," Izuku said softly.
He walked to the absolute edge of the sinking ship. He looked down at the swirling, villain-infested waters.
I need to alter the biological blueprint, Izuku commanded his cells. Take the massive musculature of the T-Rex tail, but flatten it. Make it a paddle. Take the digitigrade legs, but elongate the toes and fuse the scales into webbing. Crocodile biology. Swamp apex.
Izuku took a deep breath.
Partial Manifestation: Aquatic Chimera!
The transformation was explosive and grotesque. The sound of shifting bones and tearing flesh echoed across the lake, silencing the taunts of the villains below. Izuku’s cargo pants tore open at the seams as his legs violently expanded. But instead of the usual thick, pillar-like running legs of his terrestrial form, these legs were sleeker, the muscles corded and elongated for hydrodynamics. His talons grew out, thick, leathery webbing forming between the massive claws.
From his tailbone, a massive, thirty-foot appendage erupted. But it wasn't the rounded, spiked club of a T-Rex. It was flattened vertically, immensely broad and lined with jagged, crocodilian scutes. It slammed onto the deck, cracking the rusted metal.
Izuku didn't stop there. He needed weapons. He couldn't use his massive jaws down there; if he opened his mouth underwater, he'd drown.
Partial Manifestation: Five-Headed Hydra!
The skin across Izuku’s entire upper back bubbled and split wide open. Blood sprayed into the air, instantly vaporizing from the immense thermal heat generated by his hyper-regeneration. The water beneath the ship actually began to steam from the heat radiating off his body.
With five simultaneous, ear-piercing shrieks, five massive, serpentine Hydra heads burst from his back. They writhed and snapped in the air, their long, scaled necks twisting like a nest of vipers.
Mineta stopped crying. He simply fainted, falling backward onto the deck.
Tsuyu caught him, staring at Izuku in sheer, unadulterated awe.
Izuku turned his human head to look at her over his shoulder. His yellow eyes were burning. The five Hydra heads hissed, thick green venom dripping from their fangs, burning holes into the metal deck.
"When I jump in," Izuku rumbled, his voice a deep, demonic echo, "wait five seconds. Then follow my wake."
Before Tsuyu could answer, Izuku threw himself off the ship.
He hit the water like a biological torpedo. The moment he submerged, the villains surged forward.
"Look at this idiot!" a villain with a shark head laughed, swimming rapidly toward Izuku. "He thinks growing some extra heads will help him in our domain?! Rip him apart!"
Izuku didn't panic. The cold water felt incredible against his overheating cells. His massive, flattened crocodilian tail whipped side to side with terrifying power. The propulsion was instantaneous. Izuku shot through the water at forty miles per hour, closing the distance between himself and the shark-villain in a fraction of a second.
The shark-villain's eyes widened in horror. "What the—?!"
One of the Hydra heads snapped forward through the water, its jaws opening wide.
Izuku was in absolute control. He engaged the chemical glands in the Hydra’s throat. Don't mix the acid. If I use acid underwater, I'll boil the lake and kill everyone in it. Shift the pH balance. Create a neurotoxic paralytic.
The Hydra head clamped its jaws over the shark-villain’s shoulder. The fangs pierced the skin, injecting a massive dose of the diluted, paralyzing venom directly into his bloodstream.
The villain convulsed once, his eyes rolling back, before he went completely limp, paralyzed but breathing, drifting harmlessly to the surface.
"He took out Big Fin!" another villain yelled. "Swarm him! He can't fight us all!"
Thirty villains converged on Izuku. They brought harpoons, blade-arms, and pressurized water Quirks.
They were completely outmatched.
Izuku was a hurricane of scales, fangs, and serpentine violence. His human body remained centralized, his webbed talons kicking powerfully to keep him suspended in the water, while his massive tail created violent whirlpools that disoriented his attackers.
The five Hydra heads operated with lethal, independent efficiency. They darted through the water like moray eels. They snapped, coiled, and struck. Every bite delivered a dose of the paralytic venom. Izuku didn't kill a single one of them, but within sixty seconds, the water was filled with the floating, paralyzed bodies of the League of Villains' aquatic squad.
Suddenly, the water villain with the sawfish blades shot upward from the depths, aiming directly for Izuku’s unprotected human torso.
"Die, U.A. scum!"
Izuku saw it coming. He didn't try to dodge. He simply swung his hips, bringing his massive crocodilian tail around. The heavy, armored scales of the tail slammed into the villain with the force of a freight train. The impact shattered the villain's blade arms and sent him rocketing out of the water, skipping across the surface of the lake like a skipped stone before crashing into the concrete wall of the dome, unconscious.
Izuku treaded water, surrounded by his defeated prey. The five Hydra heads hissed, their glowing eyes scanning the murky depths for any remaining threats.
The water was clear.
Above him, Tsuyu plunged into the lake, carrying the unconscious Mineta on her back. She swam powerfully, her frog physiology making her incredibly fast, but she paused as she saw the sheer scale of the carnage Izuku had wrought.
Izuku swam up beneath her. He didn't speak; he couldn't without inhaling water. He simply positioned his broad, muscular human shoulders underneath her, offering himself as a transport.
Tsuyu understood. She grabbed hold of his tactical harness, clutching Mineta tightly.
Izuku’s massive tail whipped back and forth, propelling them toward the shore of the central plaza at incredible speed. The five Hydra heads formed a protective canopy over Tsuyu and Mineta, snapping at the air, ensuring nothing came near them.
As they reached the shallows, Izuku planted his webbed talons into the submerged concrete ramp. He dragged himself out of the water, the sheer weight of his transformed body groaning against the earth.
He marched up the stairs to the central plaza, retreating behind a cluster of large decorative boulders just outside the main fountain area.
Once they were safely out of sight, Izuku dropped to his hands and knees.
Release, he commanded his body.
The transformation collapsed. The massive crocodilian tail shrank and fused back into his spine. The webbed talons snapped and broke, reforming into human feet. The five Hydra heads let out a mournful wail before dissolving into thick, blinding clouds of steam, their flesh melting away and retreating into the wounds on his back.
Izuku collapsed onto his stomach, coughing up a mixture of lake water and blood. He was shivering violently, despite the intense heat rolling off his body. Manifesting five heads and altering his baseline mutation had cost him dearly. His caloric reserves were critically low. The hunger gnawing at his stomach wasn't just painful anymore; it was maddening. The beast in his mind was thrashing against its chains, demanding meat, demanding blood to replenish what was lost.
"Midoriya!" Tsuyu gently laid Mineta down and knelt beside Izuku, placing a cool hand on his steaming, bare shoulder. "Are you alright? You're burning up."
"I'm... I'm okay," Izuku gasped, his voice raspy. He forced himself up onto his knees, gripping the rock in front of him. He pulled his metallic jaw-guard back into place. "We need... we need to see what's happening."
Izuku peered over the edge of the boulder, looking out into the central plaza.
Aizawa was a demon. He was surrounded by dozens of villains, yet he was dismantling them with ruthless, calculated precision. He darted through the crowd, his capture scarf binding arms and legs, his fists striking pressure points, his glowing red eyes erasing Quirks before they could be used against him.
"Mr. Aizawa is incredible," Tsuyu whispered in awe. "He's fighting them all on his own."
"He's amazing," Izuku agreed, his analytical mind trying to focus on the fight to ignore the hunger. "But his fighting style is meant for short, ambush encounters. He's an underground hero. Fighting a massive mob head-on... he's burning through his stamina. His eyes are going to dry out."
Down in the plaza, the villain covered in hands—Shigaraki—began to walk slowly toward Aizawa.
"23 seconds," Shigaraki muttered, scratching his neck furiously. "24 seconds. 20 seconds. It's getting shorter, Eraserhead. The interval between when you have to blink."
Aizawa threw his scarf, wrapping it around a villain's waist, and yanked him forward, driving an elbow into the man's face.
But as Aizawa blinked, Shigaraki lunged. His speed was terrifying. He closed the distance instantly, reaching out and grabbing Aizawa's right elbow.
"Got you," Shigaraki whispered.
Aizawa’s eyes widened. He tried to activate his Quirk, but he was too late.
The fabric of Aizawa's sleeve crumbled into dust. The decay spread instantly to the flesh and bone beneath. Aizawa screamed as his elbow shattered, the skin flaking away into gray ash, leaving a gruesome, ruined crater of exposed muscle.
Aizawa reacted with pure heroic instinct. He didn't retreat. He spun, driving a brutal left hook directly into Shigaraki's face, knocking the villain back and breaking his contact.
"Wow, you're cool," Shigaraki chuckled, rubbing his cheek. "But you're not the final boss."
Shigaraki pointed a pale, decaying finger at Aizawa.
"Nomu. Kill him."
The massive, bird-beaked monstrosity with the exposed brain had been standing perfectly still near the fountain. At Shigaraki's command, the creature moved.
Izuku didn't even see it. One second, the Nomu was by the fountain. The next second, it was standing directly behind Aizawa. The creature's speed wasn't just fast; it was a violation of physics.
Before Aizawa could turn, the Nomu raised a massive, black-muscled arm and slammed it down onto Aizawa’s back.
CRACK.
The sound of Aizawa’s spine fracturing echoed across the plaza. The pro hero was driven face-first into the concrete pavement, shattering the ground beneath him.
"Mr. Aizawa!" Tsuyu screamed, covering her mouth in horror.
Izuku froze. His heart stopped.
The Nomu didn't let up. It grabbed Aizawa by his ruined right arm, hoisting the limp, bleeding teacher into the air. With a sickening crunch, the Nomu snapped Aizawa’s other arm like a dry twig. Then, it slammed him back into the ground, raising a massive foot to crush his skull.
"No," Izuku whispered.
The wind shifted.
A breeze blew across the central plaza, carrying the scent of the battlefield directly to the cluster of rocks where Izuku was hiding.
Izuku’s olfactory glands flared. He smelled the dust. He smelled the ozone.
And then, he smelled it.
Blood. Hero blood. Pack blood.
Something inside Izuku Midoriya snapped.
It wasn't a metaphorical break. It was a physical, biological override. The ten months of training, the psychological barriers he had built to suppress his feral instincts, the desperate desire to be a gentle, smiling hero like All Might... it all shattered under the overwhelming weight of primal, apex rage.
His pack was being slaughtered.
The extreme caloric deficit he was experiencing ceased to be a weakness. His biology shifted, plunging him into absolute survival mode. Adrenaline, dopamine, and cortisol flooded his system in lethal doses.
"Midoriya?" Tsuyu asked, stepping back.
Izuku wasn't looking at her. He was staring at the Nomu.
His human green irises dissolved. His eyes widened, completely overtaken by a blinding, bioluminescent yellow. The pupils contracted into razor-thin, vertical slits of pure, unadulterated hatred.
The air around him visibly distorted from the sheer thermal heat radiating off his skin. The microscopic emerald scales on his back and arms flared outward, hardening into thick, jagged plates of armor.
A low, subsonic rumble began to emanate from Izuku’s chest. It was so deep that Tsuyu and the unconscious Mineta physically vibrated against the rocks. It was the sound of a predator that had found its prey.
Izuku reached up with a trembling, scale-covered hand. He grabbed the metallic jaw-guard covering his face.
With a brutal yank, he ripped the support item off, tossing the twisted metal aside.
His human jaw unhinged. The bones cracked and expanded, pushing his mouth forward into a terrifying, elongated maw. His teeth lengthened, sharpening into rows of three-inch, serrated daggers.
"Stay back," Izuku growled. It wasn't a human voice. It was a demonic, multi-layered rasp that sounded like grinding stones.
Before Tsuyu could say a word, Izuku vaulted over the boulder.
Down in the plaza, the Nomu raised its fist, preparing to deliver the final, killing blow to Aizawa's head.
"Eraserhead," Shigaraki sighed, scratching his neck. "Game over."
ROAAAAAAAR!
A deafening, prehistoric bellow shattered the air in the USJ. The sound was so loud it cracked the glass panels of the dome above them.
Shigaraki spun around, his single visible eye widening in shock.
A massive, emerald blur was rocketing across the plaza. Izuku didn't manifest his massive T-Rex legs or his tail. He remained in his human-sized chimera form, his body hyper-dense, his legs pumping with explosive, terrifying speed.
He crossed the hundred-yard distance in less than a second.
The Nomu turned its bird-like head, its soulless eyes registering the incoming threat. It threw a punch, aiming to crush the boy.
Izuku didn't dodge. He ducked under the massive fist, feeling the wind pressure tear a gash across his cheek.
Izuku planted his boots, twisting his torso with maximum kinetic torque, and drove his right fist directly into the Nomu’s exposed stomach.
The impact sounded like a cannon firing.
The shockwave blasted outward, blowing the dust and debris across the plaza, nearly knocking Shigaraki off his feet.
The Nomu, a genetically engineered bio-weapon designed to kill the Symbol of Peace, was literally lifted off its feet. The sheer, concentrated physical force of the Tyrant Hydra Quirk folded the massive creature in half, launching it backward through the air.
The Nomu flew fifty feet, crashing violently into the concrete steps of the plaza, leaving a massive crater in the stone.
The plaza fell dead silent.
Shigaraki stared, his jaw dropping beneath the hand covering his face. Kurogiri manifested beside him, his yellow eyes narrowing.
Izuku stood over the broken, bleeding body of Aizawa.
He didn't look like a hero. His shirt was completely shredded. His torso was covered in burning, glowing green scales. His jaw was extended into a terrifying, tooth-filled maw, thick saliva dripping from his fangs onto the concrete. His eyes were devoid of humanity, burning with a lethal, predatory intent.
Izuku slowly turned his head, locking his slitted yellow eyes onto Shigaraki.
He let out a low, bone-rattling hiss.
The message was clear. The beast was off its leash. And it was going to tear them apart.
