What If Deku Had an Overpowered Stegosaurus Quirk for Spiked Tail Counterattacks

The manifestation of a Quirk is rarely a gentle process. For some children, it was a sudden ability to float their toys, or a spark of harmless static electricity dancing across their fingertips. For Izuku Midoriya, it was an agonizing, terrifying metamorphosis that fundamentally altered the trajectory of his life.

It happened in the dead of night, just two weeks after his fourth birthday.

Inko Midoriya was jolted awake by a scream that tore through the quiet apartment—a high-pitched, desperate wail that made her blood run cold. She scrambled out of bed, her bare feet slapping against the hardwood floor as she rushed to her son's bedroom. Flinging the door open, she expected to see a nightmare, a fever, perhaps a burglar.

What she saw was far more shocking.

Izuku was curled into a tight, trembling ball on the floor, his bedsheets torn to shreds around him. His All Might pajamas were ripped open at the back. From the base of his neck down to his tailbone, a series of hard, hexagonal protrusions were forcing their way through his skin. They weren't bleeding, but the skin around them was stretched taut, glowing with a faint, pulsing heat.

But that wasn't what had shredded the blankets. Extending from the base of the toddler's spine was a thick, muscular appendage, covered in dark green, pebbled scales. It thrashed wildly in his pain and panic, smashing into the wooden bedframe and splintering it like balsa wood. And at the very end of this heavy, reptilian tail were four bone-white spikes, each already the size of a kitchen knife, gleaming dangerously in the moonlight.

"Izuku!" Inko shrieked, dropping to her knees. She reached out, but hesitated, terrified of hurting him further, terrified of the wicked spikes swinging blindly in the air.

"Mommy! It hurts! It's heavy!" Izuku sobbed, his small hands clutching the carpet.

Inko did what any mother would do. Ignoring the danger, she threw her arms around her son’s front, avoiding the jagged plates on his back, and held him tight, using her own weak telekinesis to gently guide the heavy tail to a rest on the floor.

The next morning, they were in the sterile, brightly lit office of Dr. Tsubasa, a leading Quirk specialist in Musutafu. Izuku sat on the examination table, his newly formed tail hanging heavily over the edge, the four spikes resting just inches from the linoleum floor. He wore a specially modified hospital gown, his small hands gripping the edges of the table as he looked down, tears still fresh in his wide green eyes.

Dr. Tsubasa adjusted his round glasses, looking at the X-rays illuminated on the wall. He hummed thoughtfully, a sound that did nothing to ease Inko’s frantic pacing.

"Fascinating. Truly fascinating," the doctor muttered, tapping a pen against the glowing image of Izuku's altered skeletal structure. "Mrs. Midoriya, I can assure you, despite the dramatic onset, Izuku is perfectly healthy. His body has adapted seamlessly to the sudden accumulation of mass."

"Adapted? Doctor, he has a dinosaur tail!" Inko cried, wringing her hands. "He can barely walk without falling backward!"

"A temporary side effect of a shifted center of gravity," Dr. Tsubasa replied calmly, turning in his chair. "He will adjust. The human brain is remarkably plastic at this age. Now, let’s discuss the nature of this Quirk. It is a Mutant-type, clearly, with potential Transformation properties. The anatomical structure heavily mimics the *Stegosauria* infraorder. Specifically, the defensive plates along the spine, and the formidable arrangement of spikes at the terminus of the tail—scientifically referred to as a thagomizer."

"A thagomizer?" Izuku echoed, his childish voice trembling, yet laced with a sudden, genuine curiosity. He was already a boy obsessed with heroes and Quirks; learning the name of his own was a small comfort.

"Yes, young man," the doctor smiled gently. "But there is something far more extraordinary at play here. Look at these scans of the dorsal plates." He pointed to the hexagonal structures running down Izuku's spine. "These are not just bone or keratin. The cellular density is staggering, laced with a unique biological compound that acts as a kinetic capacitor."

Inko blinked. "A... what?"

"A sponge, Mrs. Midoriya. A sponge for physical energy," Dr. Tsubasa explained, his eyes gleaming with scientific excitement. "My preliminary tests show that when these plates are struck, they do not merely resist the force; they absorb it. They take kinetic energy—blunt force, pressure, perhaps even thermal energy—and store it. And the neural pathways lead directly from these plates down the spinal column, terminating right here." He tapped the image of the four spikes on the tail.

The room went silent. Izuku looked back over his shoulder, eyeing the heavy, spiked club resting on the floor.

"If my hypothesis is correct," the doctor continued, his tone turning serious, "Izuku's Quirk isn't just a physical mutation. It is a highly specialized mechanism for counterattacks. He absorbs punishment into his back, channels it down his tail, and releases it in a concentrated strike. Uncharged, that tail is a heavy, blunt instrument. Fully charged? Well... I would imagine he could shatter solid concrete with a flick of his hips."

Dr. Tsubasa leaned forward, looking directly into Izuku's wide eyes. "We will register this Quirk as *Kinetic Thagomizer*. But Mrs. Midoriya, you must be incredibly careful. This Quirk demands that the user take a hit before dealing one. It is a shield that turns into a sword. For a child, that is a dangerous instinct to manage."

***

Growing up with a hundred-and-fifty-pound prehistoric weapon attached to your spine was not easy.

Izuku’s early childhood was defined by property damage and apologies. He knocked over grocery store displays when he turned around too quickly. He accidentally shattered the family television when a loud noise startled him, causing his tail to reflexively whip through the air. Inko had to learn how to sew custom clothes, cutting wide slits in the backs of his shirts and reinforcing the seats of his trousers to accommodate the thick, scaly base of the tail.

Physically, the Quirk changed Izuku. To carry the immense weight of the tail and the dense dorsal plates, his body adapted. He couldn't be a scrawny, frail child. By the time he was eight, his core muscles were incredibly dense. His legs grew thick and powerful just to maintain his balance and anchor him when the heavy tail shifted. He still had his soft, round face, his messy mop of green hair, and his bright, innocent eyes, but his physique was built like a miniature tank.

Yet, despite his intimidating appearance, Izuku’s personality remained remarkably gentle. He didn't want to hurt anyone. He was terrified of the spikes on his tail. He bought custom-made, thick foam caps to place over the four bone-white spikes during the day, so he wouldn't accidentally impale a classmate in the hallways of Aldera Junior High.

But middle school is a cruel ecosystem, and in Izuku's world, the apex predator was Katsuki Bakugo.

Their dynamic was strange, warped by the nature of Izuku's Quirk. In a normal world, Kacchan would have bullied Izuku with impunity, burning his skin and bruising his ego. But Izuku’s Quirk made him an immovable object to Bakugo’s unstoppable force.

It started on the playground when they were seven. Bakugo, annoyed that Izuku had tried to defend another boy, had unleashed a point-blank explosion aimed right at Izuku’s chest. Instinctively, Izuku had spun around, hunching over and presenting his back to the blast.

The explosion engulfed Izuku. The playground fell silent, the other children gasping in horror. But as the smoke cleared, Izuku was still standing. His shirt was singed, but the dark, diamond-hard plates along his spine were glowing with a fierce, cherry-red heat.

Izuku hadn't felt a thing. The plates had swallowed the kinetic force and the heat entirely. But the stored energy had to go somewhere. Izuku’s tail twitched, fighting against his control. The plates hummed with a sound like a high-tension wire in a windstorm. Desperate to release the pressure, Izuku had swung his tail at a nearby swing set.

He hadn't even hit the metal frame directly. The sheer kinetic force released from the spikes displaced the air so violently that the swing set buckled and folded in on itself, uprooted from the sand by the shockwave alone.

Bakugo had stared at the ruined metal, then at Izuku, his crimson eyes wide with a complex mixture of shock, awe, and furious, burning inadequacy.

From that day on, Bakugo never physically hurt Izuku. He couldn't. Any explosion he threw, Izuku would simply turn his back, absorb it, and safely discharge the energy into the ground. But this physical invulnerability only fueled Bakugo’s psychological cruelty. If he couldn't break Izuku's body, he would break his spirit.

"You're just a punching bag, Deku!" Bakugo would sneer in the hallways, slapping the foam caps on Izuku's spikes. "A glorified shield! Heroes don't wait to get hit! Heroes strike first! What are you gonna do against a villain, huh? Turn your back and cry until they get tired?"

Those words haunted Izuku. He filled notebook after notebook with hero analysis, but dedicated half the pages to his own Quirk. *Hero Analysis for the Future: Volume 13*. He analyzed Kamui Woods' agility, Backdraft's fluid dynamics, and Mt. Lady's mass distribution. And in the margins, he mapped out the physics of the *Kinetic Thagomizer*.

He knew Kacchan was right, in a way. His Quirk was entirely reactive. If he swung his tail without absorbing energy first, it was just a heavy club. It would hurt a normal person, sure, but against a reinforced mutant or a giant villain, it would bounce off. He needed to take damage to deal damage. He was a capacitor. A battery.

*I am a shield,* Izuku thought, sitting at his desk, feeling the heavy plates resting against the specially modified backrest of his chair. *But a shield protects people. If I can stand between danger and the innocent... if I can take the hits meant for them... I can be a hero.*

The last day of middle school was a stiflingly hot afternoon. The classroom was buzzing with restless energy. Izuku sat near the back, his tail curled carefully around the base of his chair, the foam caps securely fastened over his spikes.

"Since you're all third years, it's time for you to think seriously about your futures!" the homeroom teacher announced, standing at the podium with a stack of papers. "I'll pass out handouts for your future plans now, but... you're all pretty much planning to go into the hero course, right?"

He tossed the papers into the air, and the classroom erupted into cheers as students showed off their flashy, albeit weak, Quirks.

"Yes, yes, you all have wonderful Quirks," the teacher sighed. "But using your powers in school is against the rules!"

"Sensei! Don't lump me in with these losers!" a loud, arrogant voice cut through the noise. Katsuki Bakugo kicked his feet up on his desk, leaning back with a smug grin. "As if I had anything in common with these crappy Quirks. I'm the only one from this garbage school going to U.A. High!"

The class erupted in outrage, but Bakugo simply popped small explosions in his palms, shutting them up. "I aced the mock tests! I'm the only one here with the stuff to surpass All Might and become the top hero!"

"Oh, Midoriya," the teacher interrupted, adjusting his glasses and looking at his clipboard. "Didn't you want to go to U.A., too?"

The classroom fell dead silent. Everyone turned to look at the boy in the back. Izuku froze, his hand hovering over his notebook. He could feel the stares. He could feel the immense weight of his tail.

Then, the laughter started. It wasn't the mocking, dismissive laughter of canon. It was a nervous, uncertain laughter. They all knew Izuku was terrifyingly strong. They had all seen him accidentally crack the school’s concrete steps just by dropping his tail too fast. But they also knew he was timid, apologetic, and never fought back.

"Deku... going to U.A.?" one student muttered. "I mean, his Quirk is crazy strong, but... he's such a coward."

"He just stands there and takes hits," another whispered. "You can't pass an entrance exam just by getting beat up."

Before Izuku could speak, Bakugo slammed his hands onto Izuku's desk, causing the wood to groan under the force. Smoke curled from Bakugo's palms, smelling of burnt sugar and nitroglycerin.

"Listen to me, you spiky freak," Bakugo growled, his face inches from Izuku's. "You think because you can tank my hits, you're better than me? You think you can stand in the same arena?"

Izuku didn't flinch. Years of this routine had conditioned him. He simply looked up at Bakugo, his green eyes calm but tired. "I... I don't think I'm better than you, Kacchan. But they got rid of the rule saying you can't enter U.A. if you have a defensive Quirk. I want to try. I want to save people."

"Save people?" Bakugo snatched Izuku's notebook from the desk—*Hero Analysis for the Future, No. 13*. "You can't even save yourself without turning your back like a coward!"

Bakugo pressed his glowing palms against the cover of the notebook, initiating an explosion. But Izuku’s reflexes, honed by years of carrying immense weight and bracing for impacts, were faster.

With a blur of motion, Izuku’s heavy tail whipped up, the flat side of the muscular appendage slapping Bakugo's wrists away before the explosion could fully ignite. The notebook clattered safely to the floor. The foam caps on the spikes brushed past Bakugo's face, a silent, terrifying reminder of the weaponry hidden beneath.

The classroom went deathly still. Bakugo rubbed his wrist, staring at Izuku with a mixture of shock and boiling rage. Izuku didn't look angry; he just looked sad. He slowly bent down, his massive tail shifting behind him as a counterbalance, and picked up the notebook.

"Please, Kacchan. Just leave it alone," Izuku said quietly, tucking the book into his yellow backpack.

Bakugo gritted his teeth, smoke pouring from his hands, but he didn't attack. He knew that if he threw a real blast in this enclosed space, Izuku would absorb it, and the resulting discharge from that monstrous tail would likely level the entire classroom.

"Whatever," Bakugo spat, turning on his heel. "Just don't get in my way, Deku. The entrance exam will chew you up and spit you out."

The walk home was a solitary affair. Izuku preferred the quiet, taking a longer route through an underpass to avoid the crowded streets. The rhythmic *thump, thump, thump* of his heavy, booted footsteps echoed against the concrete walls of the tunnel, accompanied by the soft scraping of his foam-capped spikes grazing the ground behind him.

He was deep in thought, replaying the classroom incident in his head. He hated conflict. He hated the look in Bakugo's eyes. Was he foolish for trying to become a hero? Every hero on TV was proactive. Endeavor blasted villains with fire. Edgeshot pierced them before they could blink. Even All Might, his idol, ended fights with a single, devastating, preemptive smash.

Nobody waited to get hit. It wasn't just dangerous; it was bad for optics. A hero bleeding and taking punishment looked weak on camera.

*But it's the only way my Quirk works,* Izuku thought, reaching a hand back to lightly touch the hexagonal plates protruding through the slits in his uniform shirt. They were cool to the touch right now, dormant. *If I don't take the hit, I can't protect anyone. I have to be the wall.*

He stopped in the middle of the tunnel, letting out a long, heavy sigh. He pulled out his phone to check the hero news. There were reports of a villain incident nearby—someone with a sludge Quirk causing chaos in the shopping district.

Suddenly, a strange sound echoed from the darkness behind him. It sounded like a drain unclogging, a wet, sloppy, gurgling noise.

Izuku turned his head. The manhole cover a few yards away rattled, then shot upward, clattering loudly against the concrete. From the dark opening below, a massive, putrid wave of dark green sludge erupted. It smelled of raw sewage and rotting garbage, a stench so thick Izuku gagged.

The sludge coalesced, rising up to the ceiling of the tunnel, forming a vague, monstrous humanoid shape with two massive, bulbous eyes and a jagged mouth full of mismatched teeth.

"Well, well," the Sludge Villain gurgled, his voice echoing like water down a pipe. "A medium-sized meat suit. You've got some weird spiky junk on your back, kid, but you'll do perfectly to help me hide from that blond bastard!"

Izuku froze. His heart hammered against his ribs. A villain. A real villain, right in front of him.

"Don't worry," the sludge monster sneered, lunging forward with terrifying speed. "It'll only hurt for about forty-five seconds. Then, it'll all be over!"

Before Izuku could run, the sludge slammed into him. The sheer mass of the villain knocked Izuku off his feet, sending him crashing onto his back. The dark, foul-smelling liquid swarmed over him, wrapping around his arms, his chest, his legs. It was cold, heavy, and suffocating.

Izuku thrashed wildly, his dense muscles straining against the slime. But it was like fighting the ocean. The harder he pushed, the more the sludge yielded, only to rush back in and fill the gaps.

"Stop struggling, kid!" the villain laughed, forcing thick tendrils of slime up Izuku's neck and toward his face. "You can't grab fluid! Just let it happen!"

The sludge forced its way into Izuku's mouth and up his nose. The taste was unimaginable—a vile cocktail of filth and decay. He couldn't breathe. His lungs burned, screaming for oxygen. Tears sprang to his eyes as his vision began to blur at the edges.

*I can't... I can't breathe...* Izuku panicked, his hands clawing uselessly at his own throat, trying to peel the slime away.

*Think!* his analytical mind screamed through the panic. *Analyze the situation! He's fluid! Blunt force won't work on his main body! He's trying to enter my lungs to take over my nervous system!*

Izuku’s heavy tail thrashed blindly against the concrete floor, cracking the pavement, but the foam caps softened the blows, and the villain easily dodged the clumsy strikes.

*My tail is useless right now,* Izuku realized, darkness creeping into his peripheral vision. *It's not charged. It's just dead weight.*

To charge the *Kinetic Thagomizer*, Izuku needed kinetic energy. He needed an impact. He needed heat, or pressure, or a physical strike against his dorsal plates. But the Sludge Villain wasn't hitting him. The villain was suffocating him, surrounding him with a soft, liquid embrace that provided zero kinetic shock to his back.

*He's not hitting me. He's squeezing me. Like a python.*

A terrifying, suicidal idea formed in Izuku's suffocating brain. It was an idea born from years of analyzing his own defensive Quirk. The plates absorbed pressure. If the pressure was uniform, it would take a lot to charge them. But if the pressure was immense... if the villain tried to crush him...

Izuku stopped thrashing. He let his arms fall to his sides. He stopped trying to pull the sludge out of his mouth.

"Finally giving up?" the villain sneered, the large, liquid eyes narrowing in cruel satisfaction. "Good boy. Now, let's make this quick. I need to squeeze into your nervous system!"

Instead of resisting, Izuku forced his body into a specific posture. He arched his back, pushing his hexagonal dorsal plates outward, directly into the thickest mass of the surrounding sludge. Then, he braced his legs, anchoring his heavy boots into the cracked concrete. He curled his massive tail beneath him, pulling off the four foam caps with a swift scrape against the pavement, exposing the deadly, bone-white spikes.

Then, Izuku purposefully triggered his Quirk's absorption mechanism to its maximum sensitivity.

*Come on,* Izuku thought, his lungs screaming, his vision darkening to a pinpoint. *Crush me.*

Feeling the boy stop resisting, the Sludge Villain saw an opening. To force himself faster down Izuku's throat, the villain constricted his liquid body, wrapping tightly around Izuku's torso and back, applying massive, hydraulic pressure to squeeze the air out of the boy's lungs.

It was a fatal mistake.

The moment the immense, crushing pressure hit Izuku's back, the dorsal plates activated.

*VMMMMMM.*

A sound, like the hum of a massive electrical turbine powering up, vibrated through the tunnel. The sludge villain paused, feeling the sudden, intense heat radiating from the boy's spine.

Beneath the slime, the dark, diamond-hard plates on Izuku's back began to glow. First, a dull orange, then a bright, searing cherry-red. The kinetic capacitor was working. It was taking the hydraulic pressure of the villain's constriction, combined with the frantic, desperate heartbeat of Izuku's own survival instinct, and converting it into pure, raw kinetic potential.

"What... what is this heat?!" the villain hissed, recoiling slightly as the liquid touching Izuku's plates began to boil and steam.

The energy cascaded down Izuku's spine. He could feel it—a rushing river of power, a tingling, explosive pressure building at the base of his tail. His muscles locked, reinforced by the stored energy. His vision cleared, sharpened by the adrenaline and the hum of his Quirk.

*100% Charge,* Izuku thought, his eyes snapping open.

Izuku planted his right foot. He twisted his hips with the force of a coiled spring. And he swung his tail.

The movement was too fast for the human eye to track. The massive, spiked thagomizer broke the sound barrier the moment it whipped around.

*BOOM!*

It wasn't just a physical strike. When the fully charged *Kinetic Thagomizer* swung, it released all the absorbed energy in a concentrated, aerodynamic shockwave. The four bone-white spikes cleaved through the air, creating a vacuum that instantly imploded with the force of a localized bomb.

The sludge villain didn't even have time to scream. The sheer atmospheric pressure generated by the tail swing hit the liquid body like a freight train. The fluid was instantly vaporized and blasted apart, turning the massive villain into millions of tiny, harmless droplets that splattered across the walls, ceiling, and floor of the tunnel.

The shockwave didn't stop there. The kinetic blast tore down the length of the tunnel, shattering the concrete walls, blowing out the light fixtures, and sending a gale-force wind out both ends of the underpass that rattled the windows of nearby buildings.

Izuku stumbled forward, coughing violently as the sludge was expelled from his lungs. He fell to his hands and knees, gasping for sweet, cool air. His dorsal plates were venting thick clouds of white steam, cooling down from their cherry-red glow back to their dark, dormant state. His heavy tail slammed onto the concrete, the spikes embedding themselves an inch into the ground, completely spent.

The tunnel was silent, save for the patter of falling sludge and the hiss of steam rising from Izuku's back.

He had done it. He had survived.

Izuku knelt there in the dim light, trembling, staring at his own hands. The sheer destructive power of that swing terrified him. If he had hit a person with that... if he had hit Kacchan... there would be nothing left. This was why he hated using it. This was the curse of the dinosaur defense. He could only survive by becoming a monster.

Suddenly, a massive figure shadowed the entrance of the tunnel.

"I AM HERE!" a booming voice declared, filling the destroyed underpass. "AND I HAVE BROUGHT... oh my... GOODNESS!"

Izuku weakly turned his head. Standing there, silhouetted against the afternoon sun, was a man built like a mountain. He wore a crisp white t-shirt and cargo pants, his legendary blond hair swept back into two V-shaped bangs.

It was All Might. The Number One Hero. The Symbol of Peace.

All Might held a plastic grocery bag in one hand, looking absolutely bewildered. He had been chasing the Sludge Villain through the sewers, lost the trail, and finally tracked him here, fully prepared for a grueling fight to save a civilian.

Instead, he found a scene of total devastation. The tunnel walls were cratered and cracked. The villain he had been hunting was reduced to a fine paste painted across the concrete. And in the center of the destruction knelt a fourteen-year-old boy, coughing, shivering, with a massive, spiked reptilian tail resting heavily on the ground and armored plates steaming on his back.

"Young man," All Might said, his booming voice dropping an octave in sheer astonishment as he stepped cautiously into the tunnel. "Did you... did you do this?"

Izuku’s eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. His idol. The man he had analyzed in a dozen notebooks, standing right in front of him.

"A-All Might!" Izuku scrambled to stand up, his heavy tail dragging behind him. He bowed frantically, almost losing his balance. "I-I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to destroy public property! He attacked me, and I couldn't breathe, and my Quirk absorbed the pressure, and I just swung, and I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!"

All Might stood frozen, analyzing the scene with the eyes of a seasoned veteran. He looked at the splatter patterns of the villain. He looked at the cracked concrete. Then, he looked at the boy.

The sheer force required to obliterate a fluid villain and cause this level of collateral damage with a single physical strike... it was staggering. It reminded All Might of... well, it reminded him of his own Smashes. But this wasn't One For All. This was a mutant Quirk, attached to a boy who looked like he was about to pass out from apologizing too hard.

"You absorbed the pressure?" All Might asked, stepping closer, his piercing blue eyes studying the heavy plates on Izuku's back. "A kinetic counter-attack?"

"Y-yes, sir!" Izuku stammered, frantically trying to find the foam caps he had discarded to cover his spikes, feeling deeply self-conscious. "My Quirk is called Kinetic Thagomizer. I can't hit hard unless I take a hit first. The villain tried to crush me, so... it charged up."

All Might knelt down, picking up two empty soda bottles he had brought in his grocery bag. With practiced efficiency, he moved around the tunnel, using a small stick to scoop the splattered remains of the Sludge Villain into the bottles, securing them tightly.

"Young man, what is your name?" All Might asked, capping the second bottle.

"Midoriya, sir! Izuku Midoriya!"

"Well, Young Midoriya," All Might said, standing up to his full, towering height and placing a heavy, comforting hand on Izuku's shoulder. "You have nothing to apologize for. You defended yourself against a dangerous villain. In fact, you handled the situation with remarkable power and instinct."

Izuku stared at him, tears welling in his eyes. "P-power? But it's just destructive! I can't save anyone like this. I can only wait to get hurt, and then I destroy everything around me."

Izuku looked down at his heavy tail, shame burning in his chest. "A real hero doesn't wait to be a victim. A real hero strikes first. A real hero saves people with a smile, like you."

All Might’s trademark smile softened. He looked at this boy—this heavily armored, terrifyingly powerful, yet incredibly gentle boy. All Might knew a thing or two about the burden of destructive power. He knew what it was like to fear one's own strength.

"Young Midoriya," All Might said, his voice quiet, lacking the booming theatrics of his television persona. "It is true that a hero must be proactive. But the essence of heroism... the very core of what makes a Symbol of Peace... is the willingness to put your body between the innocent and the danger."

All Might pointed a massive finger at Izuku's chest. "You view your Quirk as a curse because it requires you to take pain. But consider this: every hit you absorb is a hit that does not strike a helpless civilian. You are not a victim waiting to be hurt. You are a shield that breaks swords."

Izuku’s breath hitched. A shield that breaks swords. Nobody had ever framed it like that. Kacchan had called him a punching bag. The doctors had called him a kinetic capacitor. But All Might called him a hero.

"You have immense power, young man," All Might continued, looking at the cratered walls. "More raw, destructive output than most Pro Heroes in the top fifty. But raw power is easy to find. A heart that fears its own capacity for violence... a heart that prioritizes protection over aggression... that is rare."

All Might turned away slightly, a sudden, sharp pain lancing through his side—the hidden wound that was slowly draining his time, his power, his life. He had been looking for a successor. Someone to inherit One For All. But looking at Midoriya, he saw something entirely different, yet equally profound.

This boy didn't need a power-enhancing Quirk. He was already a walking weapon of mass destruction. What he needed was guidance. He needed someone to teach him how to use that power without destroying himself or the world around him. He needed to learn how to fight proactively, using momentum and martial arts, instead of just standing still and waiting for the hammer to fall.

"Midoriya," All Might said, turning back, his expression deadly serious. "Are you planning to apply to U.A. High School?"

Izuku nodded frantically. "Y-yes! The Hero Course! It's my dream!"

All Might smiled, a genuine, blinding grin that seemed to light up the ruined tunnel. "The path of a hero is not easy. It will require blood, sweat, and tears. Your Quirk is powerful, but your fighting style is incomplete. You need to learn how to move, how to grapple, how to turn your defense into an unstoppable offense without relying solely on taking damage."

Izuku listened, hanging onto every single word, his heart pounding in his chest.

"I have a proposition for you, Izuku Midoriya," All Might declared, crossing his arms. "I see great potential in you. Potential to be a hero who can stand against the strongest villains and protect the weak. If you are willing to endure a hellish training regimen... I would be honored to take you on as my personal pupil."

The world seemed to stop spinning. The wind through the tunnel died down. Izuku stared at the Symbol of Peace, his mind unable to process the magnitude of the offer.

"Me?" Izuku whispered, tears spilling over his cheeks, tracing tracks through the dirt and sludge on his face. "You want to train... me?"

"Indeed!" All Might laughed heartily. "You have the heart of a hero, and the armor of a prehistoric god! We have ten months until the U.A. Entrance Exam. It will take every ounce of your strength to master that tail of yours. Are you up to the challenge?"

Izuku didn't hesitate. He wiped his tears with the back of his dirty sleeve. He shifted his stance, lifting his heavy tail slightly off the ground, the dense muscles in his legs flexing under the immense weight.

"Yes, All Might!" Izuku shouted, bowing deeply. "I won't let you down!"

As the sun began to set, casting long, golden shadows through the broken tunnel, a new path was forged. The boy with the dinosaur defense was no longer just a passive shield waiting for the next blow. He was a weapon slowly learning how to aim, and heaven help the villains who dared to strike him first.

The ten months leading up to the U.A. High School entrance exam were the most grueling, agonizing, and transformative months of Izuku Midoriya’s life.

When All Might had promised a "hellish training regimen," Izuku had expected heavy lifting. What he got was a masterclass in biomechanics, martial arts, and kinetic physics, all conducted on the trash-strewn sands of Dagobah Municipal Beach.

"Your Quirk, Young Midoriya, is fundamentally reactive!" All Might’s booming voice had echoed across the mountains of rusted refrigerators and decaying tires on their first day. The Number One Hero stood atop a broken washing machine, pointing down at Izuku. "You are a battery! You absorb kinetic and thermal energy through the hexagonal plates on your back, channel it through your spinal column, and discharge it via the thagomizer at the end of your tail! But tell me, what is the fatal flaw of a battery?"

Izuku, his heavy green tail resting on the sand, had blinked. "It... it runs out of power?"

"Exactly! And worse, it requires a power source to charge it in the first place!" All Might leaped down, landing with a heavy thud that made the sand tremble. "For a decade, you have relied on your opponent to charge you. You wait for the explosion. You wait for the strike. This is a fatal habit. A villain with a piercing Quirk, a toxic Quirk, or a spatial Quirk will not give you the blunt kinetic force you need. They will bypass your plates and kill you."

That truth had chilled Izuku to the bone, echoing the terrifying realization he’d had during the sludge villain incident.

"Therefore," All Might had declared, his eyes flashing with intensity, "we must teach you how to fight *before* you are charged. Your tail weighs roughly one hundred and fifty pounds. Your core musculature has naturally adapted to carry it. It is not just a weapon; it is a counterbalance. We will train you to move like a dancer dragging an anchor. We will make you agile, proactive, and relentless!"

For ten months, Izuku didn't just clear the beach of trash. He learned to weaponize his own anatomy. All Might taught him Capoeira-inspired movements, using the immense weight of his tail to generate centrifugal force. He learned to leap, twist, and grapple. He learned that even without a kinetic charge from his dorsal plates, a hundred-and-fifty-pound mass of muscle and bone-white spikes swinging at high velocity was enough to shatter a car engine.

More importantly, Izuku learned to master the psychological weight of his Quirk. He stopped wearing the foam safety caps on his spikes during training. He had to stop fearing his own destructive potential if he was ever going to control it.

By the time the morning of the U.A. Entrance Exam arrived, the boy who stood before the towering glass gates of the legendary academy was fundamentally changed.

He was still short, and his hair was still a messy, untamable mop of green curls. But beneath his middle school uniform, his physique was dense and heavily muscled, built to withstand immense pressure. The hexagonal plates resting flat against his spine were hidden beneath his shirt, but the massive, pebbled green tail extending from his lower back was impossible to ignore. The four diamond-hard spikes, exposed and gleaming in the morning sun, scraped softly against the pavement with every step he took.

"Stupid Deku," a familiar, venomous voice hissed from behind.

Izuku paused, turning his head slightly. Katsuki Bakugo stormed past him, his hands stuffed deep into his pockets, his red eyes glaring daggers.

"Don't think just because you bulked up you're suddenly hot shit," Bakugo growled, not even stopping his stride. "You're still just a human shield. Stay out of my way, or I'll blast you to pieces."

Instead of flinching, Izuku just offered a calm, tired smile. "Good morning to you too, Kacchan. Good luck today."

Bakugo scoffed, a tiny pop of nitroglycerin igniting in his pocket, and kept walking.

Izuku took a deep breath, letting the crisp morning air fill his lungs. *I can do this. I've trained for this. I am not just a shield anymore.* He took a confident step forward, only for the tip of his heavy tail to catch the edge of a raised paving stone.

His newfound center of gravity betrayed him. Izuku pitched forward, his arms flailing, bracing for the harsh impact of the concrete.

But the impact never came.

"Are you okay?" a cheerful voice asked.

Izuku opened his eyes. He was hovering two inches above the ground, completely weightless. He looked back to see a girl with round, rosy cheeks and short brown hair touching his shoulder.

"It's my Quirk!" she smiled brightly, pulling him back to his feet and releasing her power. Izuku immediately felt the crushing, familiar weight of his tail return to his lower back. "Sorry I used it without asking, but it would be bad luck to fall right before the exam, right?"

"O-oh! T-thank you!" Izuku stammered, his face instantly turning the color of a ripe tomato. The sudden proximity to a girl who wasn't actively terrified of his massive tail completely short-circuited his brain. "I-I just tripped! My tail, it's... um, heavy!"

The girl looked down at the massive, spiked appendage resting on the pavement. Her eyes widened, not in fear, but in genuine awe. "Whoa! That is so cool! It looks like a dinosaur! You must be super strong to carry that around. I'm Ochaco Uraraka! Let's do our best today!"

She gave him a bright wave and hurried into the building. Izuku stood frozen, clutching his chest, feeling a different kind of thumping than usual. *I talked to a girl! And she didn't call me a spiky freak!*

***

The written exam had been a breeze for Izuku, thanks to his obsessive habit of taking notes on hero laws, physics, and strategy. But the practical exam was what truly mattered.

Standing in the massive, stadium-like auditorium, Izuku listened as the Voice Hero: Present Mic explained the rules. It was a mock urban battle. They were to destroy three types of villain robots to accumulate points. A fourth robot, the Zero Pointer, was an obstacle to be avoided.

"Are you taking this seriously?!"

Izuku was jolted from his mumbling analysis by a tall, blue-haired boy with glasses standing up several rows ahead, pointing an accusatory finger directly at him.

"You, with the massive tail! Your constant muttering is distracting, and the way your tail keeps thumping against the floor is incredibly disruptive! If you think this is a pleasure trip, then leave immediately!"

The entire auditorium turned to look at Izuku. The heavy tail, which Izuku had been unconsciously tapping against the concrete floor in a nervous rhythm, instantly froze.

"I-I'm sorry!" Izuku squeaked, curling the heavy appendage tightly around the legs of his chair, ignoring the muffled laughter of the other examinees.

*Great,* Izuku thought, burying his face in his hands. *I haven't even thrown a punch and I'm already making enemies.*

***

Twenty minutes later, Izuku stood before the towering, mechanically operated gates of Battle Center B. He wore a fitted green tracksuit, specially tailored by his mother to leave his heavily armored back completely exposed. The dark, hexagonal plates ran in two parallel rows down his spine, merging into the thick, scaly base of his tail.

He was surrounded by dozens of other applicants, all of whom were giving him a wide berth. The sheer size of his tail, ending in those four wicked, bone-white spikes, was intimidating enough to command space.

"START!" Present Mic's voice shrieked from the massive speakers towering over the faux city. "What's the matter?! There are no countdowns in real battles! Run, run, run!"

The crowd surged forward, a tidal wave of panicked teenagers. Izuku took a deep breath, dropping into a low sprinter's stance. His tail lifted straight out behind him, rigid and horizontal, perfectly aligning his center of gravity.

With a powerful thrust of his dense, muscular legs, Izuku exploded forward. The sheer torque he generated left deep cracks in the starting pavement. He wasn't the fastest runner in a straight line, but once he built momentum, he moved like a runaway freight train.

He burst into the faux city, scanning the streets. Almost immediately, he heard the whirring of servos and the clanking of metal. A group of three green, single-wheeled robots—1-Pointers—rounded the corner, their red optical sensors locking onto the closest target.

"Target acquired. Commencing hostilities."

A boy with elongated, mantis-like arms panicked, freezing in the middle of the street as the 1-Pointers charged him.

*Analyze,* Izuku's brain fired at lightspeed. *My tail is uncharged. Blunt force won't cleanly cut through their armor without kinetic buildup. I need energy. I need to be the shield.*

Izuku didn't run away. He ran directly toward the robots.

"Hey! Watch out!" the mantis-boy screamed as Izuku sprinted past him.

Izuku leaped into the air, twisting his body 180 degrees. He landed heavily between the paralyzed examinee and the charging 1-Pointers, planting his boots into the asphalt and turning his broad, armored back to the machines.

*Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!*

The 1-Pointers slammed into Izuku's back, firing low-caliber rubber munitions and extending blunt mechanical arms. To an ordinary person, it would have been a rib-shattering barrage. To Izuku, it felt like a deep tissue massage.

*VMMMMM.*

The sound of his Quirk activating was instantaneous. The dark hexagonal plates along his spine flared a bright, glowing orange. The kinetic energy from the robots' impacts was instantly absorbed, converted, and channeled down his spinal column. Izuku felt the familiar, intoxicating rush of heat and power pooling into the heavy muscles of his tail.

"Thanks for the charge," Izuku whispered.

He didn't even turn around. Utilizing the Capoeira movements All Might had drilled into him, Izuku dropped to one knee, planted his hands on the asphalt, and initiated a violent, sweeping spin-kick.

*Prehistoric Counter: Thresher Sweep.*

The charged tail whipped around in a devastating low arc. The four bone-white spikes, empowered by the absorbed kinetic energy, glowed with a faint, rippling aura of displaced air. The thagomizer slammed into the chassis of the three 1-Pointers.

It didn't just smash them; it cleaved right through them. The super-heated, kinetically charged spikes sliced through the reinforced steel alloy like a hot knife through butter. The top halves of the three robots slid neatly off their chassis, crashing to the street in a shower of sparks and hydraulic fluid.

Izuku stood up, his tail returning to a resting position, the orange glow fading from his dorsal plates with a soft hiss of steam.

"Three points," Izuku muttered, wiping sweat from his brow.

He looked back at the mantis-boy, who was staring at him with his jaw hanging wide open.

"You're welcome!" Izuku offered a quick, nervous thumbs-up before sprinting off down the next street.

High above, in the darkened observation room, the U.A. faculty watched the screens in silence.

"Fascinating," Nezu, the chimera principal of U.A., murmured, sipping his tea. "A mutant-type Quirk with energy absorption and redirection properties. A rare combination."

"He's acting like a lightning rod," commented Snipe, adjusting his mask. "He's deliberately throwing himself into the line of fire to protect other examinees, taking the hits, and using that exact energy to counterattack. It's incredibly efficient, and highly heroic."

Standing in the corner, shrouded in his yellow sleeping bag, Shota Aizawa watched the monitor focused on Izuku Midoriya. His tired eyes narrowed.

"It's reckless," Aizawa grunted, his voice dry and raspy. "He's weaponizing his own pain tolerance. He's treating his body like a sponge. That works fine against predictable, blunt-force robots. But what happens when he steps in front of a villain with a Quirk that ignores physical durability? What happens if he tries to absorb a corrosive acid, or a localized spatial warp, or a decay effect? He'll die instantly."

"Now, now, Eraserhead," a skeletal, blonde man in an oversized yellow suit chuckled softly from the back of the room. Toshinori Yagi—All Might—watched his protégé with glowing pride. "The boy is adapting. Just watch."

Down in the faux city, Izuku was a wrecking ball.

He had abandoned the idea of hunting robots on his own. It wasn't efficient for his Quirk. Instead, he listened for the sounds of struggle. Whenever an examinee was overwhelmed, Izuku was there.

A group of three 2-Pointers had pinned down a girl with vine-like hair. Izuku threw himself into the fray, purposefully catching a mechanical, hydraulic punch squarely between his shoulder blades. The impact sent a shockwave of kinetic energy into his plates, turning them cherry-red. With a deafening roar, he executed a backflip, bringing his massive, glowing tail over his head in a vertical strike that split the center robot perfectly in two, the kinetic shockwave blasting the other two machines into a nearby building.

"Fifteen points!" Izuku panted, his body drenched in sweat, his back venting thick white steam into the air.

He was starting to feel the strain. His Quirk absorbed the kinetic force, yes, but the sensory input—the pressure, the heat, the sheer violence of the impacts—still took a toll on his nervous system. He felt bruised, battered, and utterly exhilarated.

He rounded a corner into the central plaza and froze.

The area was a warzone. At least a dozen 3-Pointers, heavily armored and equipped with missile pods, had cordoned off a group of examinees. Among them was the nice girl from the entrance, Uraraka, panting heavily, her fingertips bleeding from overusing her gravity Quirk.

"Die, die, die!"

Bakugo was there too, launching himself through the air with explosive blasts from his palms, blowing the heads off robots left and right. But there were too many. The machines were closing in, their targeting lasers painting the exhausted examinees.

*I need a massive charge to take them all out at once,* Izuku realized, his analytical mind processing the geometry of the street. *More than a few punches. I need an explosive payload.*

Izuku sprinted into the plaza. "Uraraka! Kacchan! Get down!"

Bakugo twisted mid-air, spotting Izuku. "Deku?! What the hell are you doing here, you damn nerd?! Get out of my—"

"Targeting organic anomalies. Firing barrage," a 3-Pointer droned, initiating its missile pods.

Four unguided rockets shot from the machine's shoulders, rocketing straight toward the cluster of examinees.

Izuku didn't hesitate. He propelled himself forward, throwing his dense body in front of Uraraka and the others. He planted his boots, hunched his shoulders forward, and presented his broad, heavily armored back to the incoming missiles.

"Idiot! You'll be blown to pieces!" someone screamed.

*BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!*

The missiles detonated directly against Izuku's back in a deafening crescendo of fire and smoke. Uraraka screamed, throwing her arms over her head as the shockwave washed over them. Bakugo landed hard, his eyes wide as the smoke obscured the spiky-haired boy.

For a terrifying second, there was silence.

Then, the smoke began to violently swirl, sucked inward by an intense thermal updraft.

*VMMMMMMMMMM!*

The hum of the *Kinetic Thagomizer* was so loud it sounded like a dying star. The smoke cleared, revealing Izuku still standing. His green tracksuit top was completely incinerated, revealing his heavily muscled back. The double row of hexagonal plates running down his spine weren't just glowing red; they were white-hot, emitting a blinding, searing light. The heat radiating off his body was warping the air around him.

Izuku's eyes were wide, bloodshot with the sheer, agonizing pressure of containing that much kinetic energy. His tail was vibrating so violently it was cracking the pavement beneath it.

*150% Charge. Warning. Capacity Exceeded.*

"Get... back!" Izuku roared, his voice distorted by the strain.

He didn't just swing his tail. He used All Might's training. Izuku dropped low, grabbing the asphalt with his bare hands. He used his arms as a pivot point, throwing his legs into the air, and let the immense, terrifying centrifugal force of his overloaded tail take control.

*Prehistoric Counter: Meteor Cyclone!*

Izuku spun like a breakdancer, his heavy tail whipping around in a continuous, 360-degree arc. But it wasn't the physical spikes that did the damage.

The sheer amount of stored kinetic energy exploded outward from the thagomizer. Every time the tail completed a rotation, it unleashed a massive, crescent-shaped blade of compressed, super-heated atmospheric pressure.

*SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!*

The kinetic blades tore through the plaza. They didn't just cut the dozen 3-Pointers; they shredded them into metallic confetti. The shockwaves cleaved through the asphalt, shattered the windows of the faux buildings, and sent a localized hurricane blasting down the street, knocking Bakugo, Uraraka, and the other examinees clean off their feet.

When Izuku finally stopped spinning, collapsing onto his hands and knees, the plaza was unrecognizable. It looked as though a tornado made of razors had touched down. Robot parts rained from the sky like metallic hail.

Izuku gasped for air, his plates rapidly cooling, venting massive plumes of steam. The excruciating pressure in his spine faded, leaving a dull, throbbing ache.

Bakugo slowly picked himself up off the ground, staring at the devastation, then at the steam-shrouded boy kneeling in the center of it. His crimson eyes twitched, a horrifying realization dawning on him.

*He... he wasn't just a shield,* Bakugo thought, his hands shaking slightly. *He was a bomb waiting for a fuse.*

Before anyone could speak, the ground began to shake.

It started as a low rumble, vibrating up through the soles of their shoes. Then, the buildings surrounding the plaza began to crumble.

"Two minutes remaining!" Present Mic's voice echoed.

With a deafening crash that blotted out the sun, a colossal, mechanical hand smashed through a faux skyscraper. A robot the size of a city block rolled into the avenue, crushing everything in its path beneath massive treads. Its single, glowing red eye swept over the terrified teenagers.

The Zero Pointer.

"Run!" someone shrieked. "That's the obstacle! We can't fight that!"

Panic erupted. The examinees scrambled over the debris, fleeing in terror. Even Bakugo, realizing the sheer futility of fighting a building, blasted himself away down an alleyway.

Izuku tried to stand, but his legs felt like lead. The kinetic overload had drained his stamina. He watched the mechanical titan loom over them, ready to retreat himself.

"Oww... my leg!"

Izuku snapped his head around. Near the wreckage of a destroyed 3-Pointer, Uraraka was on the ground. A massive chunk of concrete from a crumbling building had pinned her leg to the asphalt. She pushed against it, tears streaming down her face, but she was too exhausted to use her Quirk.

The Zero Pointer raised a colossal metal foot, casting a shadow over the trapped girl.

In the observation room, the teachers tensed.

"She's trapped! Hit the kill switch!" Midnight yelled.

Aizawa’s hand hovered over the button. But Nezu raised a paw. "Wait. Look at Midoriya."

Izuku didn't think. The hero analysis, the point calculations, the fear—it all vanished. His body moved on its own.

He surged forward, forcing his exhausted muscles to obey. He slid to a halt over Uraraka, his boots planting firmly on either side of her trapped body. He looked up at the massive, descending metal foot, its surface area larger than a house.

"Deku?! What are you doing?!" Uraraka screamed, using his middle school nickname she'd overheard from Bakugo. "Run!"

"I can't smash it!" Izuku yelled back, his eyes locked on the descending doom. "Even if I hit it with my tail uncharged, I'll just break my own bones! I need power!"

Izuku crossed his arms over his chest, widened his stance, and arched his back upward. He exposed the dark, cooling plates on his spine directly to the descending foot of the Zero Pointer.

*I need everything it has,* Izuku thought, gritting his teeth. *I need to take the ultimate hit.*

In the observation room, Aizawa slammed his hand on the console. "He's suicidal! He's trying to tank thousands of tons of crushing force! It will snap his spine in half! Shut it down!"

"No! Watch him!" All Might roared, gripping the railing so hard the metal buckled. *Show them, Young Midoriya! Show them the unbreakable wall!*

The Zero Pointer's foot slammed down.

The impact sounded like a bomb going off. The ground beneath Izuku cratered, sending a massive cloud of dust and debris hundreds of feet into the air. Uraraka screamed, squeezing her eyes shut, expecting to be crushed into paste.

But the darkness didn't come.

Uraraka slowly opened her eyes. Above her, groaning under an impossible weight, was Izuku Midoriya.

He was on one knee, his hands pressed flat against the asphalt. His broad back was bowed, but it was not broken. Resting squarely on top of his exposed, hexagonal dorsal plates was the flat, steel underside of the Zero Pointer's foot. The colossal machine was grinding its gears, attempting to press down, but it was physically halted by the boy's unbreakable armored spine.

*VMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!*

The sound was no longer a hum. It was a high-frequency scream.

Izuku’s eyes were completely bloodshot, blood trickling from his nose and the corners of his mouth. The pain was beyond anything he had ever experienced. It felt as though his spinal cord was being submerged in liquid fire. The sheer, astronomical kinetic weight of the colossal machine was flooding into his plates.

The hexagonal armor didn't just glow white; it turned a blinding, transcendent blue. The heat was so intense it instantly melted the asphalt beneath his hands, turning it into liquid slag.

*1000% Charge. Biological Limit Reached.*

"Now," Izuku gasped, his vision going dark.

With a primal, earth-shattering roar, Izuku pushed up from the molten asphalt. He didn't just lift the robot; he used the immense, pent-up kinetic pressure stored in his plates to violently propel himself upward, forcing the giant foot off him.

Izuku launched himself backward into the air, flipping end over end. As he reached the apex of his jump, perfectly aligned with the massive, glowing red eye of the Zero Pointer's "head," he unleashed the stored energy.

*Prehistoric Counter: Guillotine!*

He executed a perfect, vertical backflip, whipping his tail straight down.

The four spikes on his thagomizer struck the exact center of the Zero Pointer's head.

The release of energy was apocalyptic. It wasn't a shockwave; it was a localized, kinetic singularity. A massive, blue blade of compressed force erupted from the impact point, slicing violently downward.

The kinetic guillotine cleanly bisected the Zero Pointer's head. It continued down, cleaving through its torso, its reinforced chassis, and its massive treads, traveling all the way to the ground.

For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The colossal machine froze.

Then, with a deafening groan of rending metal, the left half of the Zero Pointer slid away from the right half. The massive titan collapsed in two separate, flaming pieces, crashing into the ruined faux city and sending a tidal wave of dust washing over the paralyzed examinees.

Izuku fell from the sky, his plates completely dull and lifeless, his tail hanging limp. He crashed onto a pile of rubble, his body completely giving out.

"Time's up!" Present Mic's voice echoed through the silence.

Uraraka pushed the rubble off her leg, staring in utter disbelief at the two halves of the mechanical god, and then at the unconscious, heavily armored boy lying on the rocks.

In the observation room, there was pin-drop silence. Aizawa stared at the screen, his dry eyes wide beneath his messy hair. He had expected the boy to be crushed. Instead, he had witnessed a counterattack of such terrifying magnitude it rivaled All Might in his prime.

"Well, Eraserhead," Nezu said softly, breaking the silence. "What do you think of his... self-destructive tendencies now?"

Aizawa didn't answer immediately. He looked at the boy's unconscious body, specifically at the cracked, steaming plates on his back.

"He's powerful," Aizawa finally admitted, his voice low. "But my point stands. He's a blunt instrument. If he keeps relying on taking lethal damage to activate his Quirk, he won't survive his first year as a Pro. He needs to learn how to fight without being a martyr."

***

A week later, Izuku sat in his bedroom, staring at the small, holographic projection device sitting on his desk. All Might’s pre-recorded image had given him the news. Despite earning zero villain points from the Zero Pointer, he had accumulated sixty rescue points from the judges for protecting Uraraka and the others.

He had passed. He was going to U.A. High School.

But the victory felt heavy. His back still ached. Recovery Girl had managed to heal the hairline fractures in his dorsal plates, but she had severely scolded him.

*"Your armor is tough, sonny, but it's not invincible! If those plates shatter, the kinetic feedback will shred your spinal cord! You must stop taking on more than you can handle!"*

He had survived by the skin of his teeth. What if the robot had stepped on his head instead of his back? What if he couldn't handle the charge?

He carried those thoughts with him on his first day of school. Walking into Class 1-A, the heavy, rhythmic *thump* of his tail drew immediate attention.

The classroom fell silent as Izuku squeezed through the doorway, his massive tail carefully maneuvering around the desks.

"It's you!" Uraraka beamed, rushing over. "The spiky dinosaur boy! I wanted to thank you for saving me!"

"And I must apologize for my previous rudeness!" The tall, bespectacled boy, Iida, marched over, bowing stiffly. "I failed to see the true heroic potential in your defensive combat style! You realized the practical exam had a hidden rescue metric, did you not?"

"U-um, no, I just acted—"

"If you're just here to make friends, you can pack up your heavy luggage and leave."

The voice came from the floor. Izuku looked down to see a man in a yellow sleeping bag, drinking a juice pouch. He unzipped the bag, stepping out and unwinding a long, gray capture scarf.

"I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Put these on and head out to the P.E. grounds." He tossed a gym uniform onto the closest desk.

Ten minutes later, Class 1-A stood on the dirt field behind the school. Aizawa held a small device and a softball.

"A Quirk Apprehension Test," Aizawa announced flatly. "Bakugo. You finished first in the practical exam. What was your best softball throw in middle school?"

"Sixty-seven meters," Bakugo grunted, glaring sideways at Izuku.

"Try doing it with your Quirk."

Bakugo stepped into the circle. He stretched, a ferocious grin spreading across his face. He wound up, and with a deafening roar of "DIE!", unleashed a massive explosion from his palm, launching the ball into the stratosphere.

"Know your own maximum first," Aizawa said, showing the device. *705.2 meters.*

The class erupted in excitement. "Over 700 meters?! This looks like fun!"

Aizawa’s eyes darkened, his hair suddenly floating upward as his Quirk activated. "Fun? You have three years to become heroes. You think it's all going to be games? Whoever comes in last place in all eight tests will be judged to have no potential and will be punished with expulsion."

The class gasped. Izuku felt his stomach drop.

*Expulsion? On the first day?*

The tests began. Izuku performed adequately in the physical exams, relying purely on his dense musculature. But his massive tail was a hindrance in the 50-meter dash, dragging his time down. He struggled in the repeated side steps, his center of gravity too erratic.

By the time they reached the ball throw, Izuku was sweating profusely. He was hovering near the bottom of the rankings.

"Midoriya. You're up," Aizawa called out.

Izuku stepped into the circle, the softball feeling incredibly small in his scarred, calloused hands. He looked out at the field.

*I can't throw it far with just my arm,* Izuku thought. *I need my Quirk. I need a kinetic charge.*

But there was no one to hit him. No robots. No Bakugo explosions. He was alone in the circle.

Izuku squeezed his eyes shut. *Think. All Might said I can't rely on villains to charge me. I have to be proactive. If I need kinetic energy... I have to generate it myself.*

Izuku took a deep breath. He didn't wind up his throwing arm. Instead, he tossed the softball gently straight up into the air.

The class watched in confusion. "What is he doing?" Uraraka whispered.

Before the ball could reach its apex, Izuku jumped. He didn't jump forward; he jumped straight up, twisting his body mid-air to orient himself horizontally, parallel to the ground.

Then, he forcefully drove himself downward, slamming his own heavily armored back directly onto the rock-hard dirt of the throwing circle.

*CRACK!*

The impact shook the ground. The class gasped in horror.

"Deku, what the hell?!" Bakugo yelled.

But Izuku wasn't hurt.

*VMMMM!*

The plates on his back instantly flared a bright, glowing orange, absorbing the kinetic shock of his own self-inflicted impact against the earth. He had weaponized his own fall.

Using the momentum, Izuku bounced up from the ground like a coiled spring, his heavy tail whipping around in a blindingly fast, upward arc.

The softball, descending from its gentle toss, met the four glowing spikes of the *Kinetic Thagomizer* with the force of a thunderbolt.

*BOOM!*

The kinetic shockwave displaced the air in a massive ring of dust. The softball didn't just fly; it ignited, a streak of fire tearing across the sky, breaking the sound barrier with a sharp crack that made the class cover their ears.

Izuku landed heavily on his feet, his tail resting on the cracked earth, the plates on his back hissing with steam. His arm stung from the shockwave, but he was intact.

He looked at Aizawa.

Aizawa stood perfectly still, his eyes wide, his hair slowly falling back down to his shoulders. He looked at his device.

He turned the screen toward the class.

*914.3 meters.*

"He... he used his own body weight against the ground to charge his Quirk!" Iida gasped, adjusting his glasses frantically. "He bypassed the need for an enemy entirely!"

"That's so manly!" a boy with red, spiky hair cheered, pumping his fists.

Bakugo stared at the screen, his jaw clenched so tight it looked ready to shatter. *Over 900 meters? He beat me? Without even taking an attack?!*

Aizawa pocketed the device, walking slowly toward Izuku. The intimidating aura around the underground hero was suffocating.

"Midoriya," Aizawa said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "I watched your entrance exam. You have a powerful defensive mechanism. But it requires you to be a punching bag. Today, you showed adaptability by creating your own kinetic charge."

Izuku stood at attention, nervously curling his tail. "Y-yes, Sensei."

"It's clever," Aizawa continued, his dark eyes locking onto Izuku's green ones. "But it's a bandage on a bullet wound. You slammed your own spine into the ground to throw a ball. You hurt yourself to use your power. What happens when the ground is laced with explosives? What happens when a villain touches you, and their Quirk rots your armor to dust?"

Aizawa leaned in close, his scarf lightly grazing Izuku's steaming plates. "You rely entirely on your durability. But durability is a finite resource. The moment you face an opponent whose Quirk bypasses physical armor—poison, decay, mind control—your counterattack is useless. You won't just fail as a hero. You will die."

Izuku swallowed hard. It was the exact same warning All Might had given him, but delivered with the chilling pragmatism of a man who lived in the shadows.

"I won't expel you today, Midoriya," Aizawa said, turning back to the class. "You have raw power. But if you don't learn how to defend yourself without relying on your armor... you'll never survive the real world."

Izuku looked down at his massive tail, the bone-white spikes resting in the dirt. Aizawa was right. Creating his own kinetic charge was a neat trick, but it didn't solve his fundamental vulnerability. If his armor failed, he had nothing.

*I am a shield that breaks swords,* Izuku thought, recalling All Might's words. *But Aizawa is right. What good is a shield against poison gas? I have to evolve. I have to learn how to be a weapon, even when I'm not charged.*

As the sun set over the U.A. campus, casting a long, spiked shadow behind him, Izuku Midoriya realized that surviving the entrance exam was the easy part. Becoming a true hero with an overpowered, self-destructive dinosaur Quirk was going to be the fight of his life.

The warning Shota Aizawa had delivered on the first day of class echoed relentlessly in Izuku Midoriya’s mind.

*“You rely entirely on your durability... The moment you face an opponent whose Quirk bypasses physical armor, your counterattack is useless. You won't just fail as a hero. You will die.”*

Izuku stood in the locker room, staring down at his scarred, calloused hands. Behind him, resting heavily on the tiled floor, was the massive, dark green mass of his tail, the four bone-white spikes of his thagomizer capped with thick rubber training guards. He could feel the cold tile against the exposed hexagonal plates running down his spine.

Aizawa was right. He was a walking tank, but a tank was still vulnerable to gas, to rust, to the collapse of the very ground it drove on. His Quirk, *Kinetic Thagomizer*, was a masterpiece of biological defense and devastating counter-offense, but it required him to be the ultimate punching bag. If he didn't take damage, he couldn't deal it.

"Hey, Midoriya! Are you almost ready?" Kirishima’s voice boomed from across the locker room, snapping Izuku out of his thoughts. The red-haired boy was adjusting his own hero costume—a pair of gears worn as shoulder pads over a bare chest. "All Might is waiting for us at Ground Beta!"

"Ah, right! I'm coming, Kirishima-kun!" Izuku called back.

He reached into his locker and pulled out his freshly manufactured Hero Costume. He had submitted a myriad of designs, all heavily annotated with mechanical requests and spatial requirements for his unique anatomy. The support company had outdone themselves.

Minutes later, Izuku stepped out into the sunlight of Ground Beta, adjusting his new gear. He wasn't wearing a spandex bodysuit like many of his classmates. His costume was heavily tactical, designed to accommodate and support the immense, hundred-and-fifty-pound weapon extending from his lower back.

He wore a dark green, heavy-duty combat vest with thick, shock-absorbent padding over his chest and ribs. The entire back of the vest was open, bordered by reinforced, heat-resistant carbon framing that allowed his hexagonal dorsal plates complete exposure to the air and incoming attacks. His trousers were baggy and reinforced with kevlar, tapering down into massive, steel-toed combat boots designed with integrated grips—anchors to keep him rooted to the ground when swinging his tail or absorbing heavy blows.

Around his waist was a heavy weightlifting belt, providing crucial lumbar support for the strain his tail placed on his spine. Most notably, he had abandoned the idea of a cape or loose fabrics; they would either catch fire from his plates venting heat or get shredded by his own spikes. Instead, he wore a metallic mouth-guard styled into a fierce grin—a homage to All Might, combined with the practical need to protect his jaw from the shockwaves of his own attacks.

"Whoa, Midoriya!" Uraraka jogged over, her pink and black space suit looking incredibly sleek. "Your costume looks amazing! It's so... intense! Like a gladiator!"

"T-thanks, Uraraka-san!" Izuku stammered, blushing slightly behind his metal mouth-guard. "Yours looks great too! Very aerodynamic!"

"It's a bit tighter than I expected," she laughed, rubbing the back of her head.

"I AM HERE!"

The booming voice silenced the chatter of Class 1-A. All Might stood before them, striking a heroic pose in his Silver Age costume, his muscles seemingly carved from marble.

"Looking good, zygotes! They say the clothes make the man, and you all look like true heroes! Today, we take the next step. It's time for Combat Training!"

All Might held up a small booklet. "No robots today! You'll be fighting flesh and blood! The scenario is a two-on-two indoor battle. Villains have hidden a nuclear weapon inside a multi-story building. The heroes must either secure the weapon or capture the villains within the time limit. Villains must protect the weapon or capture the heroes!"

Izuku felt a familiar weight settle in his stomach. Indoor combat. Enclosed spaces. It was an environment that naturally restricted the wide, sweeping arcs of his tail, limiting his offensive capabilities. But simultaneously, tight corridors meant choke points. A place where a shield could completely block a path.

All Might pulled a small lottery box from behind his back. "Teams and opponents will be determined by drawing lots!"

Izuku stepped up and pulled his ball. *Team A.*

He looked around. "Who else got A?"

"Me!" Uraraka beamed, holding up her own wooden ball. "We're a team, Midoriya! This is gonna be great!"

Izuku smiled behind his mask, a genuine sense of relief washing over him. Uraraka's Zero Gravity Quirk was incredibly versatile. With his overwhelming mass and defensive capabilities, and her mobility and utility, they were a highly synergistic pair.

"And your opponents will be..." All Might plunged his hand into a second box, pulling out two black balls marked with white letters. "Team D! The villains for this match will be Bakugo Katsuki and Iida Tenya!"

Izuku’s breath caught in his throat.

Across the crowd, Katsuki Bakugo turned his head. His hero costume was aggressive and militaristic—black and orange, with massive, grenade-shaped gauntlets encasing his forearms. He locked eyes with Izuku.

There was no shouting. No explosions. Just a cold, simmering, absolute fury in Bakugo’s crimson eyes.

Bakugo had spent his entire life trying to prove his superiority. But no matter how hard he hit Deku, the nerd simply took it. Deku was a wall that refused to break, a wall that dared to look down on Bakugo’s explosive power with pitying green eyes. And recently, Deku had proven that he didn't even need an enemy's attack to unleash devastating power; that 900-meter throw during Aizawa's test had gnawed at Bakugo’s pride like acid.

Today was Bakugo’s chance to finally shatter the immovable object.

"Team A, you are the heroes! Team D, you are the villains!" All Might announced, gesturing toward a towering concrete building behind them. "Villains, head inside and set up your defenses. Heroes, you will enter in five minutes!"

Inside the dimly lit monitor room, the rest of Class 1-A watched the massive screens arrayed across the wall. All Might stood at the center, a microphone clutched in his massive hand.

*This is it, Young Midoriya,* All Might thought, his eyes narrowed in anticipation. *You proved your raw power at the entrance exam. But Bakugo is not a mindless robot. He is a predator. Let us see how your shield holds up against a focused, intelligent assault.*

Within the mock building, on the fifth floor, the "nuclear weapon"—a massive paper-mache bomb—sat in the center of an empty room.

Iida Tenya marched around the room, adjusting his armored boots and pushing up his glasses. He was deeply immersed in his role, adopting a theatrical villainous posture.

"It is a shame we must fight our classmates, but this is a trial of our abilities!" Iida declared, his voice echoing off the concrete. "Midoriya is a formidable opponent. His defensive capabilities are virtually unparalleled, and his raw strength is terrifying. Furthermore, Uraraka's Quirk allows her to bypass physical obstacles. Bakugo, we must formulate a strategy. If we stay in this room, we can force them to come to us, using the narrow doorway to nullify Midoriya's sweeping tail strikes—"

"Shut up, Four-Eyes," Bakugo growled, his voice low and dangerous.

Iida blinked, insulted. "I beg your pardon? Teamwork is essential—"

"I don't need teamwork to crush that damn nerd," Bakugo said, turning his back on the bomb and walking toward the door. He didn't strut; his movements were tense, coiled, like a spring about to snap.

"Bakugo! Our objective is to protect the weapon! Where are you going?" Iida demanded.

Bakugo paused at the doorway, his grenade gauntlets clicking menacingly. "Deku thinks he's so noble. Standing there, taking hits, acting like he's a martyr. It pisses me off. I'm going to find him, and I'm going to hit him so hard, so fast, that his stupid spiky tail won't even have time to charge. You guard the bomb. Deku is mine."

Before Iida could protest further, Bakugo vanished into the dark stairwell, the faint smell of burnt sugar and ozone trailing behind him.

***

Outside, in the alleyway leading up to the building's entrance, Izuku was crouched on the asphalt. He held a piece of chalk, hastily sketching a crude map of a generic multi-story building on the ground. His heavy tail curled tightly around his feet, the rubber guards on his spikes scuffing against the pavement.

"Okay, Uraraka," Izuku muttered, his mind working at lightspeed. "Kacchan is hyper-competitive, and... well, he really doesn't like me. He won't stay with the bomb. He'll view this as a personal challenge. I'm almost certain he's going to ambush us the moment we step inside."

Uraraka nodded, her expression serious. "So, what's the plan? If he ambushes us, won't that trap us?"

"That's exactly what we want," Izuku said, looking up, his green eyes burning with a focused intensity that took Uraraka by surprise.

"My Quirk, the *Kinetic Thagomizer*, makes me the ultimate tank," Izuku explained, tapping the center of his chest. "I can absorb incredible amounts of blunt force, heat, and kinetic pressure. Kacchan's explosions are basically pure thermal and kinetic shockwaves. I am practically purpose-built to counter him."

He pointed to the chalk drawing. "When Kacchan attacks, he'll focus entirely on me. It's a pride thing. The moment he engages, I need you to run. Make yourself weightless, float up the stairwells, do whatever it takes to find the bomb room. Iida will likely be guarding it."

"But what about you?" Uraraka asked, worried. "Bakugo's Quirk is super strong! You're just going to fight him alone?"

Izuku looked down at the dark, armored plates on his arms and legs, and then reached back, lightly brushing the thick, dormant hexagonal plates running down his spine.

"I won't fight him, Uraraka," Izuku said softly, a trace of sadness in his voice. "I'm going to hold him off. I'm going to be the wall he can't break. You secure the weapon. That's how we win."

"Heroes!" All Might's voice crackled through the small earpieces they wore. "Your five minutes are up! Infiltrate and secure the objective!"

Izuku stood up, adjusting his mouth-guard. The mechanical components clicked into place. His heavy tail lifted slightly off the ground, the thick muscles tightening.

"Let's go," Izuku said.

They slipped through an open window on the ground floor, immediately entering a maze of concrete hallways. The building was dark, the only light filtering in through heavily barred windows. The silence was oppressive. Every step they took felt incredibly loud, the heavy *thud* of Izuku's boots and the scraping of his tail serving as a beacon to anyone listening.

They moved down the first corridor, sticking close to the walls. They reached an intersection.

*Silence.*

Izuku paused, his eyes scanning the shadows. *He's close. I can smell it. Nitroglycerin.*

From around the corner above them, a figure dropped from the ceiling in total silence.

"DIE!"

Bakugo unleashed a massive, two-handed explosion aimed directly at the space between Izuku and Uraraka. The confined hallway magnified the blast. A blinding flash of orange fire and a deafening roar erupted in the corridor.

Uraraka shrieked, raising her arms to shield her face, expecting to be engulfed in flames.

But the fire never reached her.

Izuku’s reflexes, honed by ten months of hellish training with All Might, took over. Before the explosion could fully expand, Izuku pivoted on his heel. He threw himself horizontally across the hallway, perfectly placing his body between Uraraka and the expanding fireball.

He didn't brace with his hands. He crossed his arms over his chest, tucked his chin down, and violently arched his back, presenting the twin rows of hexagonal plates directly into the heart of the explosion.

The blast hit Izuku like a tidal wave of fire and concussive force.

*VMMMMM!*

The deep, resonant hum of the *Kinetic Thagomizer* activated instantly. The dark plates on Izuku's spine flashed from dormant black to a bright, searing orange. They acted like a vacuum for kinetic energy. The flames didn't bounce off him; they were literally sucked into the plates, the heat and concussive force absorbed and channeled down his spinal column into the heavy muscles of his tail.

The smoke cleared in a matter of seconds.

Izuku was still standing. His combat vest was slightly singed at the edges, but he was completely unharmed. His broad back was turned to Bakugo, the hexagonal plates glowing with a dull, throbbing heat. Behind him, Uraraka sat on the floor, perfectly untouched.

"Uraraka! Go! Now!" Izuku roared over his shoulder, his eyes never leaving the floor, maintaining his defensive posture.

Uraraka didn't hesitate. She slapped her hands against her boots, making herself weightless, and pushed off the wall, floating rapidly down the corridor and disappearing up the stairwell.

Bakugo didn't even look at her. His crimson eyes were locked entirely on Izuku's glowing back.

In the monitor room, the class was in an uproar.

"Whoa! A surprise attack!" Ashido yelled.

"Bakugo is ruthless!" Kaminari winced. "But Midoriya took it point-blank!"

"Look at the data screens," Yaoyorozu pointed out, her eyes narrowed in fascination. "Midoriya's body temperature just spiked, but his heart rate is completely stable. He absorbed the entire blast."

Back in the hallway, the dust settled.

"Running away, Deku?" Bakugo sneered, smoke curling from his gauntlets. "Sending the girl to do your dirty work?"

Izuku slowly turned around to face Bakugo. He uncrossed his arms, dropping into a wide, grounded stance. His heavy tail whipped around, resting aggressively in front of him, the rubber guards on the spikes thumping heavily against the concrete floor.

"It's a tactical objective, Kacchan," Izuku said, his voice calm, filtered through the metal mouth-guard. "And my objective is you."

"Your objective?" Bakugo laughed, a harsh, jagged sound. "You think you can beat me? You think because you threw a ball far, you're suddenly a fighter? You're a human punching bag! You can't even attack me until I hit you first!"

"Then hit me," Izuku challenged quietly.

Bakugo’s eyes widened in pure rage. Veins bulged on his neck. "Don't mock me!"

With a feral roar, Bakugo launched himself forward, using explosions from his palms to propel himself at blinding speed. He closed the distance in a fraction of a second, drawing his right arm back for a devastating right hook laced with nitroglycerin.

He aimed right for Izuku's face. He knew the plates on Deku's back were impenetrable, so he would blow his head off instead.

But Izuku had spent ten years analyzing Bakugo's movements.

Izuku didn't try to block the punch with his hands. Instead, he used the immense weight of his tail as a counterbalance. He twisted his torso violently to the right, ducking under the right hook. As Bakugo flew past him, carried by his own momentum, Izuku completed his spin, presenting his armored back to Bakugo’s side.

*BANG!*

Bakugo, frustrated by the miss, fired a point-blank explosion into Izuku's shoulder blades.

The plates hummed louder. *VMMMM.* They shifted from orange to a bright cherry-red.

Izuku slid forward a few inches from the force, his steel-toed boots grinding against the concrete. But he didn't fall. He absorbed it entirely.

"Dammit!" Bakugo cursed, rebounding off the wall and attacking again.

What followed was a brutal, one-sided spectacle of violence. Bakugo unleashed a relentless, acrobatic assault. He bounced off the walls and ceiling, raining explosions down on Izuku from every conceivable angle. He tried sweeping kicks, armor-piercing concentrated blasts, and rapid-fire volleys.

And Izuku took every single one of them.

He moved with a bizarre, heavy grace. He didn't throw a single punch. He didn't swing his tail. He used Capoeira footwork to constantly pivot, duck, and weave, ensuring that no matter where Bakugo struck from, the blow always landed on his heavy, armored back or the thick, scaly base of his tail.

Every explosion that hit Izuku was swallowed by the plates. The hallway began to grow unbearably hot. Izuku's back was glowing so intensely it was casting long, demonic shadows against the concrete walls. His plates were venting thick white steam, hissing furiously as the kinetic capacitor struggled to contain the mounting energy.

*It hurts,* Izuku thought, gritting his teeth behind the mouth-guard. *The plates absorb the kinetic shock, but the thermal energy is leaking into my muscles. My spine feels like it's on fire. But I can't yield. I have to hold him here.*

In the monitor room, the class was watching in stunned, horrified silence.

"This... this isn't a fight," Jiro whispered, covering her mouth. "Bakugo is just wailing on him. Why isn't Midoriya fighting back?!"

"He's charging," Todoroki said quietly, his mismatched eyes fixed on the screen. "His Quirk requires kinetic input. He's letting Bakugo fuel him."

"But to what end?!" Kirishima yelled, gripping his hair. "He's just standing there! That's not manly! That's torture!"

All Might gripped the microphone tightly. *Young Midoriya... you are proving your resilience. But Aizawa's warning is still valid. Do not let yourself become a martyr just because you can.*

In the hallway, Bakugo landed heavily on his feet, panting, his chest heaving. His arms were trembling slightly from the sheer volume of explosions he had unleashed.

He looked at Izuku.

Izuku stood at the end of the corridor. His combat vest was shredded in the back. His plates were glowing a blinding, translucent white, radiating heat waves that distorted the air. His massive tail was vibrating uncontrollably, the raw power contained within it threatening to tear the concrete floor apart just by being near it.

But Izuku's green eyes, visible over the metal mouth-guard, were calm. Resolute. Pitying.

That look snapped something in Bakugo’s mind.

"Why won't you fight me?!" Bakugo screamed, his voice cracking with a mixture of rage and hysterical frustration. "Swing that damn tail! Try to hit me! Do something!"

"I don't need to," Izuku said, his voice deep, resonating with the stored kinetic energy vibrating through his vocal cords. "I'm the wall, Kacchan. And you've exhausted yourself trying to break it. Uraraka is probably at the bomb by now. You lose."

"I DON'T LOSE TO YOU!"

Bakugo raised his right arm, pointing the massive, grenade-shaped gauntlet directly at Izuku. His left hand moved to the heavy metal pin resting near the wrist.

Izuku’s eyes widened. He recognized the design. Those gauntlets weren't just for show. They stored Bakugo's nitroglycerin sweat. Over the course of the intense fight, Bakugo had been sweating profusely. That gauntlet was fully loaded.

"If they designed this the way I asked," Bakugo panted, a manic, desperate grin spreading across his face. "These store up my sweat inside. The entire time I've been hitting you, I've been filling it up."

In the monitor room, All Might’s eyes widened in horror. He leaned into the microphone. "Young Bakugo! Stop! Are you trying to kill him?! If you unleash that in a confined space, you'll tear the building apart!"

Bakugo’s earpiece crackled with All Might's warning, but the blond boy ignored it. His vision was tunneled entirely on the unmovable object standing before him.

"He's got that thick armor!" Bakugo yelled, his fingers gripping the metal pin. "He won't die if he dodges! Or if he absorbs it!"

"Bakugo, NO!" Izuku shouted, dropping his defensive stance. "You'll collapse the hallway on both of us!"

"THEN SWING AT ME, DEKU!"

Bakugo pulled the pin.

Time seemed to slow down. Izuku saw the firing hammer strike the spark pad inside the gauntlet. He saw the concentrated, pressurized nitroglycerin ignite.

It wasn't an explosion. It was a localized solar flare.

A massive, blinding column of pure, concentrated fire and kinetic force erupted from the gauntlet. It filled the entire hallway, vaporizing the wallpaper, melting the light fixtures, and screaming toward Izuku like a freight train made of hellfire.

*I can't dodge this,* Izuku realized in a fraction of a millisecond. *If I jump, it hits the structural pillars behind me. The building will come down on Uraraka.*

Izuku didn't run. He didn't dive for cover.

With a primal scream, Izuku planted his massive, steel-toed boots into the concrete, cracking the floor beneath him to anchor himself. He threw his arms wide open, thrust his chest forward, and then violently violently pivoted 180 degrees, slamming his back squarely into the path of the incoming inferno.

The blast hit him.

The monitor screens in the observation room instantly whited out with static. The concrete bunker around the class shook violently, dust raining from the ceiling.

"MIDORIYA!" Uraraka’s voice screamed over the comms, somewhere high above the blast zone.

Inside the hallway, Izuku was engulfed in total destruction. The heat was astronomical. The kinetic pressure felt like a mountain had been dropped on his spine. The hexagonal plates on his back screamed, the biological capacitor pushed to its absolute, critical limit. The plates didn't just glow white; they began to crack, thin fissures of blinding blue light spider-webbing across the dark armor.

*CAPACITY EXCEEDED. CRITICAL OVERLOAD.*

Izuku's eyes bled. His muscles tore under the strain. But he held his ground. He absorbed the blast, protecting the structural integrity of the corridor behind him.

The flames finally died down, sucked into the vortex of Izuku's back.

Bakugo stood at the other end of the corridor, his arm smoking, his gauntlet red-hot. He panted heavily, staring into the thick, choking smoke.

"I... I did it..." Bakugo rasped. "I broke him."

From the smoke, a sound emerged.

*VMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!*

It was a sound so loud, so high-pitched, it shattered the remaining glass in the hallway windows.

The smoke violently cleared, sucked into a localized vacuum.

Izuku Midoriya was still standing. His combat vest was completely gone, incinerated. His back was a map of glowing blue fissures, venting steam like a breached reactor core. He was bleeding from his nose and mouth, his eyes entirely bloodshot.

But he was alive. And his heavy, spiked tail was no longer resting on the ground. It was elevated, floating slightly in the air, vibrating with so much stored kinetic energy that the concrete beneath it was turning to dust.

Bakugo froze. Pure, unadulterated terror gripped his heart.

Izuku turned his head, locking eyes with Bakugo. The green eyes were no longer pitying. They were feral, consumed by the agonizing necessity to release the catastrophic energy stored within him.

"My turn," Izuku whispered.

He didn't take a step forward. He simply dropped to one knee, planted his right hand on the melted concrete, and torqued his hips.

He swung the tail.

*Prehistoric Counter: Shockwave Sweep.*

Izuku didn't aim the physical spikes at Bakugo. Hitting Bakugo directly with a 3000% charged thagomizer would literally cut the boy in half and splatter him across the walls.

Izuku aimed at the air *between* them.

The four rubber-capped spikes broke the sound barrier instantly. *CRACK!*

The release of energy was incomprehensible. A massive, crescent-shaped blade of compressed atmospheric pressure erupted from the tail swing.

The shockwave tore down the hallway. It hit Bakugo like a solid wall of invisible concrete. It didn't burn him; it simply hit him with the blunt force of a hurricane.

Bakugo was picked up off his feet, his eyes rolling back in his head before he even hit the wall. The shockwave carried his unconscious body backward, smashing him through a reinforced concrete partition, then another, before pinning him against the far wall of the building, completely out cold.

The kinetic blast didn't stop there. The sheer concussive force traveled vertically.

Up on the fifth floor, Iida Tenya was pacing nervously, guarding the paper-mache bomb. Uraraka had just peeked her head out from behind a pillar, preparing to make her move.

Suddenly, the floor beneath them violently bucked upward. A shockwave rippled through the concrete, shattering the floorboards and sending a massive tremor through the room.

Iida lost his footing entirely, crashing to the ground in a tangle of armored limbs. "What on earth?!"

Uraraka, already light on her feet, used the tremor to launch herself over the stumbling Iida. She extended her hands, lightly tapping the surface of the paper-mache weapon.

"Secured!" she yelled, clinging to the bomb.

In the monitor room, the screens slowly flickered back to life. The class stared in absolute, jaw-dropping silence at the destruction.

"Hero Team... Hero Team Wins!" All Might announced, his voice trembling slightly with a mixture of awe and relief.

Down in the ruined hallway, the dust began to settle.

The corridor was completely unrecognizable. The walls were bowed outward, the ceiling was sagging, and the floor was a cratered mess of rebar and pulverized concrete.

Bakugo Katsuki was slumped against a far wall, unconscious, his mask torn, completely defeated.

In the center of the destruction stood Izuku Midoriya.

The glowing blue light in his plates slowly faded back to a dull, dormant black. The cracks in his armor hissed, sealing slightly, though a trickle of blood ran down his spine. The immense, crushing weight of his tail returned, slamming heavily onto the ruined floor with a dull *thud*.

Izuku’s knees buckled. He caught himself on his hands, panting heavily, sweat and soot stinging his eyes. Every muscle in his body screamed in agony. The headache from the kinetic feedback felt like a spike driven through his skull.

But as he looked up, past the smoke and the rubble, toward the unconscious form of his childhood tormentor, a profound realization washed over him.

He hadn't thrown a single punch. He had taken the absolute worst the unstoppable force had to offer. He had held the line. He had protected his teammate, protected the building, and secured the victory.

*I am the immovable object,* Izuku thought, a tired, bloody smile creeping across his face beneath the metal mouth-guard.

The battle trial was over. The human shield had won. But as Izuku finally let his eyes close, collapsing into the rubble, he knew that the true trials of U.A. High School were only just beginning.

The low rumble of the U.A. bus engine vibrated through the floorboards, but for Izuku Midoriya, it was barely noticeable. He was accustomed to carrying a constant, heavy vibration in his bones. Sitting near the back of the bus, he had to sit sideways, his massive, dark-green scaly tail resting in the aisle, the four rubber-capped spikes at its terminus gently bumping against the metal floor with every pothole.

"Midoriya, your Quirk is really something else," Tsuyu Asui noted, resting a finger on her chin as she looked at him with large, unblinking eyes. "It's so straightforward, but the raw power behind it is crazy. It kind of reminds me of All Might, ribbit."

Izuku flushed, waving his hands frantically. "A-All Might?! No way, Asui-san! All Might is proactive! He's the unstoppable force. I'm just... well, I'm just a big shield that occasionally hits back."

"Call me Tsu," she corrected smoothly. "And don't sell yourself short. We all saw the footage of your Battle Trial against Bakugo."

The bus went quiet for a moment. Several students turned to look at him, their expressions a mix of awe and lingering shock. Kirishima leaned over his seat, grinning widely, revealing his sharp teeth.

"Oh man, I'm still thinking about that!" Kirishima cheered, pumping a fist. "You just stood there and took those explosions point-blank! It was the manliest thing I've ever seen! You didn't even flinch!"

"I flinched a little," Izuku muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. Beneath his U.A. gym uniform, the hexagonal plates running down his spine still throbbed with a dull, phantom ache. Recovery Girl had healed the hairline fractures caused by Bakugo's fully-loaded gauntlet blast, but the sheer thermal shock had left his nervous system sensitive.

"Still, it's a dangerous way to fight," Todoroki said quietly from the front, his mismatched eyes looking out the window. "Relying on your opponent's strength to fuel your own means you surrender the initiative."

Izuku looked down at his calloused hands. "Todoroki-kun is right. Aizawa-sensei warned me about it, too. If someone has a Quirk that doesn't use blunt force or heat... if they have poison, or something that bypasses armor entirely... I'm completely vulnerable."

"Well, don't sweat it too much!" Kaminari laughed, leaning back. "You're basically a walking tank! How many villains out there actually have one-touch kill Quirks anyway?"

Izuku offered a small, nervous smile, but the pit in his stomach remained. He knew the statistics. He had analyzed them for years. They were rare, yes, but out in the real world, "rare" was an inevitability.

The bus lurched to a halt, the pneumatic doors hissing open.

"We're here," Aizawa announced, his voice dry and commanding. "Stop messing around and get off."

The Class 1-A students filed out, their eyes widening in collective awe. Standing before them was an enormous, dome-shaped facility, its glass roof glittering in the afternoon sun.

Waiting for them at the entrance was a figure in a puffy, astronaut-like suit. The Space Hero, Thirteen.

"Welcome, everyone, to the Unforeseen Simulation Joint!" Thirteen greeted them warmly. "Or, as I like to call it, the USJ!"

Inside, the facility was breathtaking. It was a massive, enclosed biosphere housing several distinct disaster zones: a ruined city, a landslide zone, a mountainous region, and a massive central lake with a shipwreck.

As Thirteen began a lecture about the lethal potential of Quirks—a speech that resonated deeply with Izuku, whose heavy tail twitched nervously at the mention of accidental fatalities—the lights overhead suddenly flickered.

*BZZT.*

A loud, electrical popping sound echoed through the dome. The massive fountain in the central plaza far below them sputtered, the water pressure failing.

"Is the training starting already?" Kirishima asked, stepping forward. "Like the entrance exam?"

Izuku’s eyes, trained to constantly scan for threats, snapped toward the plaza. Down by the broken fountain, the air began to warp. A pinpoint of darkness expanded, tearing the fabric of space apart until it formed a swirling, purple-and-black vortex of mist.

From the center of the dark portal, a hand emerged. It was pale, gaunt, and deathly looking. Following the hand was a young man with shaggy, pale-blue hair, his face obscured by a disembodied, grayish hand clutching his face.

Behind him, dozens—then scores—of villains began to pour out of the portal, wielding crude weapons and activating menacing Quirks.

But Izuku didn't look at the thugs. His eyes were immediately drawn to the massive silhouette emerging last. It was a hulking, muscular monstrosity, its skin the color of bruised purple flesh. Its brain was completely exposed beneath a domed skull, and it possessed a beak lined with razor-sharp teeth. The sheer, primal malice radiating from the beast made Izuku’s dorsal plates hum nervously, a biological warning system screaming at him to run.

"Get back together and don't move!" Aizawa roared, his lazy demeanor instantly vanishing. He pulled his yellow goggles down over his eyes, his capture weapon unfurling around him like angry serpents. "Thirteen, protect the students! Those are villains!"

The word hit the students like a physical blow. Real villains. Here.

Aizawa didn't hesitate. He leaped down the massive staircase, plunging headfirst into the sea of criminals, his Quirk erasing their powers as he dismantled them with brutal, calculating martial arts.

"We need to evacuate!" Thirteen yelled, ushering the students toward the exit.

But before they could take more than a few steps, the purple mist expanded in front of them, coalescing into a tall, ethereal figure with glowing yellow eyes.

"I am afraid I cannot allow that," Kurogiri's sophisticated, chilling voice echoed. "Greetings. We are the League of Villains. It may be presumptuous of us, but we have invited ourselves into the home of the heroes... in order to have All Might, the Symbol of Peace, take his final breath."

Izuku’s blood ran cold. *They're here to kill All Might? With what? A small army of thugs? No... that monster down there.*

"My role is to scatter you," Kurogiri continued, his misty body expanding like a tidal wave. "And torture you to death!"

The dark mist washed over them. Izuku felt a terrifying sensation of weightlessness. His heavy tail swung through empty space. The world spun, the light vanished, and the last thing he heard was Uraraka screaming his name.

***

*SPLASH!*

Izuku hit cold, murky water, sinking like a stone. The sheer weight of his one-hundred-and-fifty-pound tail dragged him downward toward the bottom of the Shipwreck Zone's artificial lake. He thrashed, kicking his dense legs, desperately trying to orient himself.

Through the gloom, he saw a villain swimming toward him—a man with shark-like teeth and webbed hands, grinning menacingly. The villain opened his jaws to bite down on Izuku's leg.

Suddenly, a long, powerful tongue wrapped around Izuku's waist. He was yanked forcefully upward, breaking the surface of the water with a loud gasp. He was hurled through the air, crashing heavily onto the deck of the sinking faux-ship in the center of the lake.

Tsuyu Asui landed gracefully beside him, carrying a crying Minoru Mineta under her arm.

"Are you okay, Midoriya?" Tsu asked, her calm demeanor betrayed only by her rapid breathing.

"Y-yeah. Thank you, Asui—Tsu," Izuku panted, pushing himself up on his hands and knees. His wet gym uniform clung to his heavily muscled frame. He shook his tail, sending a spray of water across the deck.

"They're everywhere!" Mineta shrieked, gripping his purple hair. "Look down there! We're dead! We're fish food!"

Izuku crawled to the railing. In the water surrounding the sinking ship, dozens of aquatic-type villains were circling like sharks. Some held rusted pipes; others were generating small whirlpools with their hands.

"They know we're on the boat," Izuku analyzed rapidly, his mind kicking into high gear. "But they aren't boarding. Why? Because they know they have the advantage in the water. They're waiting for the ship to sink. Which means... they don't actually know our Quirks."

"What does that matter?!" Mineta cried.

"It means they don't know who they're dealing with," Izuku said, standing up. He reached back and pulled off his damp shirt, tossing it onto the deck, completely exposing his scarred, heavily muscled torso and the dark, hexagonal plates running down his spine. He reached down and yanked the rubber safety caps off his tail spikes. The four bone-white blades gleamed in the dim light.

"Mineta," Izuku said, his voice dropping into a deadly serious tone. "Can you throw those sticky spheres of yours fast?"

"Y-yeah, but they just bounce off the water!"

"Tsu," Izuku continued, looking at the frog girl. "Can you grab me and Mineta and jump us to the shore when I give the signal?"

"I can," Tsu croaked, her eyes narrowing. "What are you going to do?"

"I'm going to give them a reason to regret bringing me to the water."

Before either of them could stop him, Izuku vaulted over the railing, plummeting directly back into the villain-infested waters.

"The brat jumped in! Get him!" one of the villains roared.

Izuku didn't fight them. As he hit the water, he curled into a tight ball, presenting his broad, armored back to the surrounding enemies.

Three villains reached him first. One swung a heavy steel pipe, slamming it directly into Izuku's spine. Another unleashed a torrent of pressurized water against his shoulder blades. A third punched the heavy, scaly base of his tail.

*Thwack! Crash! Pow!*

To the villains, it felt like striking a solid block of titanium.

To Izuku, it felt like flipping a switch.

*VMMMMMM!*

Even underwater, the sound of the *Kinetic Thagomizer* activating was deafening. The dark plates on Izuku's back flared a brilliant, glowing orange. The water immediately surrounding his spine began to boil violently, massive bubbles erupting to the surface.

"What the hell is that heat?!" a villain screamed, recoiling.

*50% Charge. That's enough,* Izuku thought. *I don't need to destroy the zone. I just need to move the water.*

Izuku uncoiled his body. He planted his heavy boots against the submerged hull of the ship to anchor himself. Twisting his waist with terrifying torque, he unleashed a sweeping horizontal strike with his glowing, charged tail.

*Prehistoric Counter: Tsunami Sweep.*

The tail didn't hit a single villain. It struck the water itself.

The kinetic shockwave displaced the entire volume of the artificial lake in a fraction of a second. A massive, localized whirlpool erupted, spiraling outward into a towering, circular wave. The aquatic villains were caught in the immense, grinding pressure of the displaced water, slammed together and sucked into the vortex like clothes in a washing machine.

"Mineta! Now!" Izuku roared, breaking the surface of the churning water.

Terrified but acting on instinct, Mineta began frantically plucking the purple spheres from his head, hurling them into the spinning vortex of villains. The sticky balls attached to the criminals, clumping them together into a massive, tangled ball of helpless bodies.

"Got it, ribbit!" Tsu's tongue lashed out, wrapping securely around Izuku's thick waist. With powerful, frog-like kicks, she leaped from the railing of the sinking ship, sailing high over the churning water, carrying both Izuku and Mineta.

They crashed heavily onto the concrete shore of the central plaza, sliding a few feet before coming to a halt.

Izuku immediately scrambled to his feet, his plates hissing as they cooled back to a dormant black. "Good job, you two. We secured our zone."

"Midoriya, you're crazy!" Mineta sobbed, kissing the concrete floor. "I thought you were trying to get yourself killed!"

"It's the only way my Quirk works," Izuku said, picking up a discarded piece of debris to use as a makeshift shield for his front, just in case.

"Wait," Tsu whispered, pointing a trembling finger toward the center of the plaza. "Look at Aizawa-sensei."

Izuku’s blood ran cold.

The battle in the plaza had taken a horrifying turn. The small army of thugs lay groaning on the ground, defeated by Eraserhead. But Aizawa wasn't victorious.

He was pinned beneath the colossal, bird-beaked monster. The Nomu straddled the underground hero, holding Aizawa's arm in its massive, meaty hand. With a sickening *CRACK*, the beast snapped Aizawa's arm like a dry twig.

Aizawa screamed, a sound of pure agony that made Izuku’s heart stop.

A few feet away stood the pale, hand-covered villain, Tomura Shigaraki.

"You're so cool, Eraserhead," Shigaraki rasped, his voice echoing eerily across the plaza. "But you're just a man. And my Nomu... is the anti-Symbol of Peace. He is bio-engineered to take All Might down."

Izuku took a step forward, his breath hitching. The sheer, overwhelming aura of the Nomu was suffocating. *Bio-engineered for All Might? That thing... it's not a normal villain. It's a weapon.*

Aizawa, despite his shattered arm, looked up through his blood-soaked hair. His glowing red eyes locked onto Shigaraki. The pale villain's hair suddenly fell flat. Aizawa was erasing his Quirk.

Shigaraki sighed, stepping forward. "Nomu."

The beast reached down and slammed Aizawa's head mercilessly into the concrete, shattering the ground beneath him. Aizawa's goggles cracked, his eyes sliding shut, his Quirk deactivating.

"Sensei!" Izuku yelled, his voice echoing across the silent plaza.

Shigaraki slowly turned his head. Through the fingers of the severed hand covering his face, a single, bloodshot red eye locked onto the three students crouching at the water's edge.

"Oh," Shigaraki murmured, tilting his head. "Looks like some of the kids managed to survive the zones. Kurogiri, you really dropped the ball on this one."

The dark mist reformed beside Shigaraki. "My apologies, Tomura Shigaraki. One of the students with a speed Quirk managed to escape out the front door. He is likely calling for backup."

Shigaraki began to scratch his neck, violently, his fingernails digging into his pale flesh. "Game over. It's game over. All Might isn't here, and now the extra lives are on their way to ruin the boss fight. This sucks."

He stopped scratching. He looked at Izuku, Tsu, and Mineta.

"Well," Shigaraki whispered, a horrific grin stretching across his cracked lips. "Before we hit the continue screen... let's at least hurt the Symbol of Peace's pride. Let's smash some of his precious students."

Before Izuku could blink, Shigaraki was moving. He was terrifyingly fast, crossing the distance from the fountain to the shoreline in less than a second.

He didn't aim for Izuku. He aimed for Tsu.

Shigaraki's hand, all five fingers extended, reached out toward the frog girl's face.

*“The moment you face an opponent whose Quirk bypasses physical armor... you will die.”* Aizawa's warning rang like a funeral bell in Izuku's mind. He had seen what happened when Shigaraki had touched Aizawa's elbow earlier in the fight. The flesh had simply crumbled away to dust. It was a decay Quirk.

It bypassed durability. It bypassed kinetic absorption.

Izuku didn't have time to charge his tail. He didn't have time to attack. He only had time to be the shield.

"TSU!" Izuku roared.

He threw himself directly into Shigaraki's path. He turned his body, dropping his shoulder, and shoved Tsu and Mineta backward with his heavy tail.

Shigaraki's hand slammed squarely onto Izuku's exposed upper back.

All five fingers made contact with the top-right hexagonal plate of the *Kinetic Thagomizer*.

Time stopped.

There was no *VMMMM* of kinetic absorption. There was no glowing orange light. There was no heat. Shigaraki's hand hadn't struck with force; it had landed with a gentle, terrifying finality.

Then, the Decay activated.

The agony that ripped through Izuku's body was beyond human comprehension. It was a localized apocalypse. The dense, diamond-hard keratin and bone of his dorsal plate—the armor that had withstood point-blank explosions and the weight of a giant robot—began to crackle and rot.

Gray, necrotic veins spider-webbed across the black plate. It turned to ash, sloughing off into the wind.

But the plate wasn't just a shell. It was a biological component intricately tied to Izuku's central nervous system. As the armor decayed, the highly sensitive kinetic nerve clusters beneath it were exposed to the air and instantly subjected to the rotting effect.

"GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Izuku threw his head back, a scream of pure, visceral torture tearing from his throat. Blood sprayed from his mouth as his vision whited out. The pain felt as though a rusted, jagged saw was being dragged directly up his spinal cord.

Shigaraki's eyes widened in morbid fascination. "Oh? You didn't shatter instantly. What dense armor... but everything turns to dust eventually."

*Move!* Izuku's survival instinct screamed. *Get him off!*

Izuku couldn't charge his Quirk. His primary kinetic intake valve was currently rotting away. But his tail still weighed a hundred and fifty pounds.

Biting down so hard he cracked a molar, Izuku threw his entire body weight into a violent, uncharged spin. He swung his massive, scaly tail like a baseball bat.

Because it wasn't charged with kinetic energy, the spikes didn't cut the air. It was just a heavy, blunt instrument.

The thick, muscular base of Izuku's tail slammed into Shigaraki's ribs. The sheer physical mass was enough to send the villain flying backward. Shigaraki tumbled across the concrete, rolling to a halt near the fountain, gasping for breath.

Izuku collapsed onto his hands and knees, hyperventilating. His entire right side was trembling uncontrollably. Tsu let out a horrified gasp. The top-right plate on his back was completely gone, reduced to a weeping, bleeding crater of exposed flesh and ruined nerve endings.

"Midoriya!" Tsu cried, rushing forward, tears springing to her eyes.

"S-stay back!" Izuku choked out, spitting blood onto the concrete. He forced himself to stand, his legs shaking violently. He couldn't feel his right arm properly, but he planted his heavy boots, swinging his tail defensively in front of him.

By the fountain, Shigaraki slowly stood up. He clutched his side, coughing. "That... actually hurt. You're a tough little NPC, aren't you?"

Shigaraki raised a trembling hand, pointing directly at Izuku. "Nomu. Kill him."

The massive, bird-beaked beast turned away from Aizawa's broken body. It locked its dead, unblinking eyes onto Izuku.

The concrete exploded beneath the Nomu's feet. It moved faster than Shigaraki, faster than Bakugo. It was a blur of purple muscle.

Before Izuku could even raise his arms, the Nomu was in front of him. The beast drew back a fist the size of a boulder and drove it directly into Izuku's chest.

*CRACK!*

The impact was devastating. Izuku was launched backward like a cannonball, flying over Tsu and Mineta, sailing thirty feet through the air before crashing heavily into the concrete stairs leading up to the exit.

Izuku rolled down the steps, coming to a halt in a broken heap.

"MIDORIYA!"

Mineta was screaming. Tsu was frozen in terror.

Izuku groaned, his vision swimming. His ribs felt shattered, but miraculously, they weren't. His heavily padded combat vest and his naturally dense musculature had saved his life. And more importantly... it was a blunt force attack.

Despite the agonizing pain of his decayed right shoulder, the remaining, intact plates on his back flared to life. The kinetic force of his impact against the stairs had charged them.

*VMMMMM!*

The plates glowed a deep, furious orange.

*He punches like a truck,* Izuku thought, forcing himself to his feet. His heavy tail vibrated, the four bone-white spikes glowing with kinetic energy. *But I'm the wall. I can take it.*

The Nomu didn't wait. It charged the stairs, raising both fists for a double-hammer blow to crush the boy.

Izuku braced himself. As the Nomu came within range, Izuku unleashed his counter.

*Prehistoric Counter: Thresher Sweep!*

Izuku pivoted on his heel, whipping his charged tail in a vicious, horizontal arc. The glowing spikes met the Nomu's muscular torso with the force of a bomb.

*BOOM!*

A massive shockwave erupted from the point of impact, cracking the stairs and sending a gale-force wind across the plaza. Izuku gritted his teeth, expecting the beast to be cut in half, or at least blown back to the fountain.

But as the dust cleared, Izuku's blood ran cold.

The Nomu hadn't moved an inch.

The four bone-white spikes of Izuku's tail were pressed hard against the creature's purple stomach. But the beast wasn't cut. The kinetic shockwave, the concussive force that had shattered a Zero Pointer, had seemingly vanished into the creature's flesh.

The Nomu looked down at the tail, tilted its head, and then effortlessly grabbed the thick appendage with one hand.

"What?" Izuku gasped, his eyes widening in pure horror.

"It's Shock Absorption, you idiot," Shigaraki laughed from afar, scratching his neck gleefully. "Nomu doesn't just take hits. It absorbs blunt force and kinetic energy. Sound familiar? Your spiky tail is useless. You're a kinetic battery attacking a kinetic sponge!"

Izuku barely had time to process the terrifying reality before the Nomu yanked his tail upward, lifting the one-hundred-and-fifty-pound boy off the ground like a ragdoll.

The beast slammed Izuku back into the concrete stairs. Once. Twice. Three times.

Each impact fed more energy into Izuku's remaining plates. They glowed brighter, screaming with stored power, but he couldn't use it. If he unleashed another shockwave, the Nomu would just absorb it again. He was trapped in a lethal feedback loop.

The Nomu raised Izuku high into the air for a final, bone-shattering slam.

*BOOM!*

The heavy doors at the top of the U.A. entrance blew open with explosive force. A massive silhouette stood framed in the daylight.

"I had a bad feeling, so I tore myself away from an interview," All Might said, his voice completely devoid of its usual bombastic cheer. He ripped off his yellow tie, his blue eyes burning with an unholy fury.

"IT'S FINE NOW! I AM HERE!"

All Might moved so fast the human eye couldn't track it. In a microsecond, he was down the stairs. He snatched Aizawa's broken body from the ground, grabbed Tsu and Mineta in his other arm, and delivered a devastating, spinning backhand directly to the Nomu's face, forcing the beast to drop Izuku.

Izuku hit the stairs, gasping for air, the kinetic charge in his plates threatening to tear him apart from the inside.

"Go to the entrance!" All Might commanded Tsu and Mineta, setting them down safely out of range. "Take Aizawa with you!"

All Might turned his attention to the Nomu. "Carolina... SMASH!"

All Might crossed his arms and delivered a dual-handed chop directly to the Nomu's chest. The shockwave parted the clouds above the USJ dome.

But the Nomu didn't flinch. It grabbed All Might's wrists.

"It doesn't work, All Might!" Shigaraki cackled. "I told you, he has Shock Absorption! You can't beat him with pure power!"

All Might gritted his teeth, engaging in a brutal, point-blank fistfight with the monster. The resulting shockwaves threatened to tear the plaza apart. Every punch All Might threw was a localized earthquake, but the Nomu took them all, regenerating whatever minor tissue damage occurred and punching back with equal force.

Izuku, lying broken on the stairs, watched the clash of titans. His analytical mind, despite the agonizing pain, was running at lightspeed.

*It's a sponge,* Izuku thought, his eyes tracking the ripples across the Nomu's purple flesh. *Blunt force doesn't work. All Might's smashes are pure blunt force and concussive shockwaves. My tail sweeps are the same.*

Izuku looked down at his heavy, vibrating tail. The four bone-white spikes were glowing cherry-red, completely saturated with the kinetic energy he had absorbed from the Nomu's beating.

*A sponge can absorb a punch,* Izuku realized, his eyes widening. *But a sponge cannot absorb a needle. It cannot absorb a blade.*

"All Might is slowing down," Izuku muttered, noticing the slight hesitation in his idol's movements, the wisp of steam escaping All Might's mouth. His time limit was running out. He couldn't keep this up.

*If I use a sweeping strike, the energy is distributed over a wide area as a concussive shockwave. The Nomu absorbs it. But... what if I don't swing? What if I thrust? What if I channel 100% of this stored kinetic energy strictly into the physical tips of my spikes?*

It was a suicidal maneuver. To pierce armor, he needed maximum velocity and maximum mass behind a singular point. He couldn't just stand there and poke it. He needed to turn himself into a bullet.

But to do that, he needed more power. He needed a charge so massive it would likely shatter the rest of his dorsal plates.

Izuku slowly forced himself to his feet. Blood ran down his chin. His right shoulder was a canvas of necrotic decay, but the remaining plates down his spine were fully active.

He gripped his heavy tail with both hands, lifting the massive weight to align the four spikes directly in front of him, like a gladiator holding a heavy lance.

"All Might!" Izuku roared, his voice cutting through the deafening booms of the fistfight.

All Might parried a blow, glancing back. "Young Midoriya! Stay back! You are severely injured!"

"You can't beat it with blunt force!" Izuku yelled, limping down the stairs, dragging the massive, heavy weight of his tail into position. "It absorbs the shock! You need to pierce it! I can pin it, but I need you to hit me!"

All Might's eyes widened in horror. "What?! I will not attack my own student!"

"Not you! HIM!" Izuku pointed a bloody finger at the Nomu.

Shigaraki laughed. "The kid has lost his mind. Nomu, squash the bug before you finish the boss."

The Nomu disengaged from All Might, turning its massive, mindless frame toward the battered, heavily armored boy. It raised its fists, charging at Izuku with terrifying speed.

Izuku didn't raise his guard. He stood tall, crossing his arms over his chest, and turned his back directly toward the charging behemoth.

"MIDORIYA, NO!" All Might roared, lunging forward, but he was too slow.

The Nomu hit Izuku.

It wasn't a single punch. It was a rapid-fire barrage of fists, a storm of violence raining down upon Izuku's back.

*CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!*

The remaining hexagonal plates on Izuku's spine screamed under the pressure. The kinetic absorption pushed past 100%. Past 500%. The plates turned from orange, to white, to a blinding, incandescent blue.

Izuku felt his ribs cracking. He felt his lungs compress. The pain was transcendent, a fiery crucible that threatened to melt his nervous system into slag. Blood burst from his nose and ears.

*Hold on,* Izuku prayed to whatever gods were listening. *Don't shatter. Hold the line.*

The plates held. Barely.

With a deafening, high-pitched whine, the biological capacitor hit absolute critical mass.

*1000% Charge.*

"NOW!" Izuku screamed, his voice tearing his vocal cords.

He didn't swing his tail. Instead, utilizing the momentum of the Nomu's final punch, Izuku violently propelled himself forward, sliding across the concrete to put ten feet of distance between them.

Izuku dropped low into a sprinter's crouch, facing away from the Nomu. He braced his steel-toed boots against a chunk of broken concrete. He curled his massive, glowing tail directly beneath him, pointing the four bone-white spikes straight backward, aiming squarely at the center of the Nomu's chest.

He channeled every single ounce of the blinding blue kinetic energy away from the sweeping muscles of his tail, and forced it entirely into the dense, diamond-hard keratin of his thagomizer. The four spikes elongated slightly, vibrating at a microscopic frequency that warped the light around them.

Izuku fired.

*Prehistoric Counter: Armor-Piercing Lance!*

He didn't swing. He thrust his hips violently backward, firing the heavy tail in a straight, linear, piercing motion.

The movement broke the sound barrier with a crack so loud it shattered the remaining glass in the USJ dome.

The four glowing, super-heated spikes shot backward. They didn't produce a concussive shockwave. They produced four pinpoint vectors of absolute, unstoppable kinetic penetration.

The Nomu stepped forward to attack, meeting the strike head-on.

The beast's Shock Absorption Quirk flared to life, attempting to swallow the kinetic energy. But there was no broad shockwave to absorb. The energy was concentrated into points no wider than a needle.

The spikes tore through the Nomu's impenetrable purple flesh with a sickening *SCHLUCK*.

They bypassed the shock absorption entirely, piercing deep through the creature's dense muscle, shattering its ribcage, and exiting clean through its back.

The Nomu let out a horrific, screeching wail of agony, its body violently jerking as it was impaled on the massive, heavy tail of the battered fourteen-year-old boy.

The sheer forward momentum of the Nomu, combined with the piercing strike, carried them both backward. Izuku slammed into the ground, but he held his tail rigid. The heavy spikes drove downward, impaling the Nomu directly into the shattered concrete of the plaza, pinning the struggling behemoth to the earth like a grotesque butterfly on a corkboard.

"WHAT?!" Shigaraki shrieked, tearing furiously at his own neck, drawing blood. "That's impossible! You cheated! You hacked it!"

Izuku lay on his stomach, completely paralyzed by the pain, his armor steaming and cracked, but he managed to lift his head, looking up at his mentor with bloodshot, desperate eyes.

"All Might..." Izuku choked out. "Now! I've pinned him! The shock absorption... it can't handle upward momentum! Blast him into the sky!"

All Might stood frozen for a fraction of a second, staring at the incomprehensible courage of his pupil. The boy had weaponized his own torture to create an opening.

Tears sprang to the Symbol of Peace's eyes. His musculature expanded, pushing past his limits, past the fading embers of One For All in his chest.

"You truly are..." All Might whispered, a proud, ferocious smile splitting his face. "A HERO!"

All Might leaped into the air, perfectly aligning himself over the pinned, screeching Nomu. He drew his right arm back, the air around his fist igniting with pure, unadulterated power.

"PLUS..." All Might roared, descending like a golden meteor. "...ULTRA!"

He didn't hit the Nomu in the chest. He hit it squarely under its massive, exposed jaw.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*

The impact was cataclysmic. The shockwave leveled the remaining trees in the plaza and sent a massive tsunami radiating outward across the artificial lake.

The sheer, focused, upward blunt force was so astronomical that the Nomu's Shock Absorption Quirk simply overloaded. The beast was torn free from Izuku's spikes, launching upward like a rocket. It smashed through the reinforced glass ceiling of the USJ dome, soaring higher and higher until it was nothing more than a twinkle in the sky, completely removed from the battlefield.

Silence descended upon the Unforeseen Simulation Joint.

Shigaraki stared at the gaping hole in the roof, his jaw slack beneath the hand on his face. "He... he beat the anti-Symbol of Peace... with a kid."

All Might landed heavily on the concrete, steam pouring from his massive frame. He struck a triumphant pose, though a thin trail of blood leaked from the corner of his smile.

"Well, villains?" All Might declared, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "What will it be?"

Shigaraki trembled. The fear was palpable. "Kurogiri... we're leaving."

The dark mist enveloped the pale villain, and in a second, they vanished, abandoning their remaining thugs to the sirens echoing in the distance. Pro Heroes were finally arriving.

As the adrenaline faded, All Might’s posture immediately slouched. He coughed up a terrifying amount of blood, reverting in a poof of smoke to his skeletal, true form.

Toshinori Yagi stumbled forward, falling to his knees beside the broken, unmoving form of his student.

Izuku lay face down in the rubble. His combat vest was gone. The dark, hexagonal plates on his back were a spider-web of glowing blue cracks. The top-right plate was a horrific, decayed crater of raw flesh. His massive tail rested heavily on the concrete, the bone-white spikes stained with purple blood.

"Young Midoriya," Toshinori choked out, reaching a trembling, skeletal hand out, terrified to touch the broken armor. "Midoriya, my boy, hold on."

Izuku slowly opened one swollen, bloodshot green eye. He looked at the frail, skeletal man, and then looked at the hole in the roof.

A weak, breathy chuckle escaped Izuku's lips, followed by a cough of blood.

"Did I... did I do it, Sensei?" Izuku whispered, his voice barely audible over the approaching sirens. "Was I... a good shield?"

Toshinori’s heart shattered. He leaned down, tears streaming freely down his gaunt face, and carefully placed a hand on the boy's uninjured, trembling shoulder.

"No, Izuku," Toshinori wept, smiling down at the boy with profound, immeasurable pride. "Today... you were the sword."

Izuku smiled weakly, his heavy eyelids fluttering shut as he finally allowed the darkness to take him, the heavy weight of his spikes finally coming to a rest.
